advice to a newbie..

Hello there...
I ordered my herald...actually a p4350 and i will be receiving it in a few days..
But as i know it will come with WM5 installed.
So,
i am trying to understand the procedures explained here but..
Theres some modified roms as i see.
So what should be the path to follow...
Upgrading to WM6 from htc's webpage ? or is there any modified wm6 images around?
And what is rom called for? A kind of theme that should be installed after upgrading?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance..
The best advice each one of us could give you is to start reading the posts your interested in. Make sure you have read enough to know what you are going to do and what to do when it goes wrong.
If your Herald comes packed with WM5 and you simply want to upgrade it to WM6, the best way to do this is by downlaoding the official RUU (Rom Upgrading Utility) for the HTC website (europe.htc.com).
If you're familiar with WM6 and you want to use a customized package then start reading the posts on how to upgrade, the (im)possibilities and it's pro's and cons. Start with reading the topics by ITje on how to upgrade to his rom. The latest version is Touch-IT V3 for Herald/P4350.
Make sure you have the official RUU before you start upgrading to the customized ROM, because you need that one incase you brick your Herald (means something went wrong during upgrade and it isn't working anymore).
All the answers to any question you might have can be found in these forum's. To make sure you don't piss of people or ask redundant question search the forum until you're desperate before you ask something.
Good luck!

New AT&T Tilt Owner - Need some guidance

Hello,
I am new to this site, I've read and read about the cooked ROMS for the HTC phones. I'm anxious for the 6.1 update to come out for AT&T, anyone know when this will come out? I know that the TyTn II update came out, but when I log into HTC's website, it's nowhere to be found. However, if I decide to go with a Cooked ROM, can someone direct me to what I first need to do to prepare my phone for it, and where I can load the latest Cooked ROM?
Also, anyone who was scared to brick their phone and did the Cooked ROM how is it and what do you recommend?
One last thing, if I do load a cooked ROM on my phone, and AT&T releases the 6.1 update, I could easily update it with that correct?
Any help is appreciated.
...................... Ok. Search through this site and read!! It will tell you how to do everything. I hereby introduced you to the flaming...
I've read through the thread that was posted today, but was curious if I needed to install a cooked rom or if I could install this on the AT&T ROM. I want to know the success of this because I don't want to brick my phone. Thanks.
When it comes to technology, nothing is forever. You can flash a different cooked rom and always flash back to the original state. Once again search. Everyone has different flavors so you are bound to get different opinions on which ROM is suitable for you. Go to the Kaiser-Rom and Developement thread and look around. Read Read Read. When you feel comfortable attempt a ROM upgrade.
P.S.
Why would you want to flash a 6.1 ROM on the HTC site (whenever it comes out)
Their are chefs on this forum that make way better ROMs withougt all the junk apps nobody uses. Just my 2 cents.
I think we can close this thread now.
which rom are you using? On my tilt, I just have the WM 6.0 not the 6.1. I've tried the HTC site, and I've read that it's out, but nowhere to be found on HTC's site. I've signed up as a e-club member. But I'll keep looking.

Questions regarding Flashing/Dumping ROM on MDA Compact V

Hi, been looking through the various sections of ROM development forum, and have a couple of questions. I am new to this Windows based phones.
1) When I dump the ROM, does this Backup the ROM, radio and Protocol, or do you have to do them individually? Basically can I put the MDA Compact V back into its complete original state if I dont like the new ROMS?
2) Has anyone tried Flashing the Compact V, if so, any improvements?
Hoping some of you experts can help out a noob!
2) You need HARDSPL installed. Then you can flash any topaz rom on it. Trust me, you don't want to go back to the t-mobile rom.
Let us know how you get on, i'm thinking of doing the same thing
I dumped my rom from the mda compact v but I havent put it back together as nbh yet. Downloading the topaz kitchen to do so.
It is always a good idea to dump your rom before flashing a new one. If your phone develops a fault t-mobile will not accept responsibility if there is a custom rom on there and they will likely tell you that your warranty has been invalidated. Although the t-mobile rom is awful is always good to have it backup up just in case of the worst.
Saying that I didnt backup the radio though and I updated that to the latest last week
EDIT: To answer the question yes there are improvements with running custom roms. I have not moved to 6.5 yet as I have a heavily customised uDK 6.1 rom and cannot be bothered to move to 6.5 and do all the customisations again. There 6.5 rom appear to be slightly buggier from what I read but it does have its advantages over 6.1.
Backup the t-mobile rom and move to the custom roms just make sure you follow the instructions carefully
Thanks for the replys.
Pauloke: I have backed up the ROM (parts.raw) and I have also got the kitchen, but I really have no idea what I'm doing. Worst case, I have a copy anyway. The kitchen instructions get quite techy very quickly and they soon lose me. Is there any way of getting a copy of the shipped ROM online?
Cheers

One way is to check the website of your provider. Sometimes you find the ROM (as an update) there.
Another way is to check the WIKI TOPAZ cooked ROMs page. By chance you find your ROM there.
Ohh man i must be rly stupid, why i cant figure out how the @#% i can dump my rom :S This dumprom tool is supposed to extract an already backed up rom right? i'm really confused :/

[Q] Basic rom required

I am looking to put my Blackstone back to something that looks like a stock rom, i have searched and search found some great Roms but i want something basic to sell the phone on. any ideas please
Do you want to sell the phone? you may want to flash the original 6.1 Rom which can be downloaded from shipped-roms.com
If you want a Rom with Manila 2.5 and stock look, you may want to try the roms from Wajk (Blackstonehenge), Miniterror (ravange) or Coudy (Cloudyfa)
