hi @all,
i bought a locked g1 on ebay. it will arrive next week.
i am going to flash a jachero on it and root it and stuff.
do i have to care about unlocking it or is that solved by flashing?
is it appropriate to ask if there are other ways to unlock it than buy an unlock-code on those commercial sites?
has anyone experiences with getting a code directly from tmobile? the device was in use for 3 month so maybe there is a semi-official way...
thanks in advance

okay you need to understand the core difference here:
rom flashing DOES NOT sim unlock your phone.
To sim unlock it use pof/olipro's sim unlocker or yes simply call att and tell them you are going overseas and you need your sim unlock so you can use it over there. They are legally bound to give it to you if you have had the phone over six months (i got mine after having the phone for 2 days without a problem).

Thanks thesire thats what i was guessing.
Just a quick question. Hopefully someone knows the answer.
I bought an unlocked phone. If I flash the ROM to one of the ones from here, is the phone going to stay unlocked or do I have to unlock it again.
Thanks for your help.

The phone will remain unlocked as in use any network but read flashing requirements as to spl/hspl or you will brick your phone
Great. Thanks for your response.
Query answered and covered before. Thread closed
I might need to change service providers soon because Koodo is just sucking right now. As such, my phone needs to be unlocked. I would be paying Koodo for the service so that I don't have to run the risk of bricking my S5830D (can you even brick a phone while attempting to unlock it?). However, my little Ace is running CM9.1 RC4.1 by Wayland_ACE.
I don't know the SIM unlocking procedure and I was wondering if I would need to flash back Koodo's Stock ROM (where can I get that by the way?) and unroot it to have it unlocked.
I also heard of unlock codes around these forums and was wondering what they were, does Koodo just give me a code that I enter somewhere to SIM unlock? Please give me any information that you can on this matter.
Koodo charges $50 for this service, is there a simple safe and less expensive method to SIM unlock?
Thanks in advance.
I unlocked mine with an app from Google play called Galaxy Ace Unlock, by Helroz. You can find it HERE
It worked like a charm for me, if it doesn't find the code, install Busybox and try again.

Sounds good, I'll give it a try. Busybox is already installed with my ROM and any other installation fails. If it fails and I can't install Busybox, do you have any suggestions?
I found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1335548
Is there another easier method to unlocking the phone? this is a lot of work... -.-
With Busybox already in your ROM you should be good to go. The one I posted the link to worked for me so I never had to try any other method. I got 3 codes, and the second one worked. So, yeah, I really don't have any experience with other methods.

Brilliant worked I obtained the code (the same one repeated four times?) I will unlock it when I get the chance. Do you need to be on a stock ROM for the system to read the code?

I don't think so but try it and see... Generally if there's a message to say the phone is locked, there should also be an option to unlock it.
Hello everyone!
I got my HTC one M7 and it's my first smartfone ever so I'm a total noob at these things.
I know there are many threads for beginners but could someone just answer a couple of question really quick and simple, or at least point me to the appropriate threads
1) is there a way to SIM unlock it for free? It's carrier locked to VIP Croatia
2) which method is the easiest to unlock the bootloader?
3) I plan to install that kernel which gives you the option to use HTC logo as a power on/off button, will I have to install that kernel before or after a custom ROM?
Thx

Your expensive device can become useless pretty quick if you don't know what you're doing.
Check this out as a general guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45432325&postcount=2
To answer your questions, I don't know about sim unlock. Always had unlocked devices. Maybe just pay the $10 on eBay and get someone to provide a code?
Easiest way to unlock bootloader is through htcdev - official hTC site for unlocking etc.
Last one, don't know of a kernel for our devices which allows power on/off by hitting the logo.
With kernels, you need to flash after the custom rom as the custom rom will have it's own kernel which will overwrite your custom kernel if you flash it first.
Good luck.
First of all thx a lot for your reply cr1960
Yes I know it's pretty risky, that's why I'm here, I have to admit though I had some little experience only in changing rom-s, once turned a korean S2 into international version, and recently installed cyanogenmod on my old man's S3 mini, but of course I consider myself a total noobie.
I've been searching yesterday on ebay yes, but I hope it will work as I've been reading some ppl complaining I didn't work for their carrier and stuff like that, hopefully they offer refunds
Thx for the good luck, I'm gonna need it
wondering if anyone can please help me urgently
I have a Sony Xperia Z1 Canadian model C6906, rooted kitkat 4.4.2 (Build 14.3.A.0.757).
I am traveling abroad to South America. I plan to factory sim unlock the phone with Rogers' Carrier so I can use the phone while I am in SA.
Will I lose Root or will this affect my rooted Z1?
thanx.
kd
sim unlock and root are totally separate. they will not effect each other
And don't worry, I have already asked the mods to move this QUESTION that I have ANSWERED to the QUESTION and ANSWER section

If you want, it will not touch root, but even if it does, just root it again

Hehe, you won't lose root after Sim Unlocking.. I've unlocked my phone today and everything is working fine, no issues with root or whatever.. I'm quite happy because I got my unlock code from Three UK for FREE!!!! They have new policy, no more sim-lock's and if have one, they'll unlock it free of charge. Happy days!
Good luck with unlocking
