okay you need to understand the core difference here:
rom flashing DOES NOT sim unlock your phone.
To sim unlock it use pof/olipro's sim unlocker or yes simply call att and tell them you are going overseas and you need your sim unlock so you can use it over there. They are legally bound to give it to you if you have had the phone over six months (i got mine after having the phone for 2 days without a problem).

Thanks thesire thats what i was guessing.
hi @all,
i bought a locked g1 on ebay. it will arrive next week.
i am going to flash a jachero on it and root it and stuff.
do i have to care about unlocking it or is that solved by flashing?
is it appropriate to ask if there are other ways to unlock it than buy an unlock-code on those commercial sites?
has anyone experiences with getting a code directly from tmobile? the device was in use for 3 month so maybe there is a semi-official way...
thanks in advance

ahh okay thanks alot. i saw that thread before but didnt really understand that register and unlocking is the same
no problem hehe You'll still need a SIM if you want to have internet access
yeah of course probably i should do these steps AFTER i flashed it, right?
Hi all,
New to the Xperia Scene. I've rooted and unlocked HTC's in the past with sucess but I've come into contact with a XPERIA Z locked to the "3" network.
How would I unlock it & remove the "3" crap off it and flash a STOCK rom - Not really interested in a custom rom.
Thanks for any help given
EDIT - Just checked the Rooting Status info and it says Bootloader Unlock Allowed : NO - Am I out of luck?

You will need to get a SIM unlock code either directly from 3 UK or search for a service online (Usually they are about 15-20£) if you want to get rid of SIM unlock. Then you can,but don't have to unlock the BOOTLOADER (if you wanna flash custom ROMs not based on stock such as CM, AOKP etc you will need to unlock it but bare in mind that Bravia Engine 2 will be permanently lost unless you backup the phone). If you want stock based ROMs just root the phone using one of the methods found in xda. You can also checkout my youtube channel for a video guide on how to root and get custom recovery. Good luck
Yes - all UK carrier Xperias have non-unlockbale bootloaders. You are out of luck.
If you have any desire to go Custom on any phone brand, always stick to factory sim free unbranded. Period.
You've also posted this in the wrong section.

Thanks for the heads up.
I would just want to put my UK Orange SIM in and remove the 3 branded logo's etc. If I can't do this, I'll eBay the phone.

You can - get your sim unlock code, dial *#*#7465625#*#* in the dialer, input code then press unlock (this saves the trouble of finding another simcard. You of course need to use another sim card to test it - but hey, you wouldn't be unlocking otherwise )
You will then need to root and install a recovery - tons of threads about on that one. Then just flash any generic firmware (I'm using [NUT]'s Belgian Generic one) - ti won't have any carrier crap on it at all.
Alternatively, once rooted just use titanium backup to uninstall any stuff you don't like.
I've got a Three XZ as well and the bootloaders are NOT unlockable - there may be some joy with a KEXEC module if any of the devs get one to work, but until then you will be stuck with stock variants. I'm on the verge of ebaying myself for this reason.
For any devs who even fancy attempting this, there is a $400 bounty over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2287897

If someone can unlock a 3 or any carrier bootloader without JTAG and Sony proprietary software then it will be a first.
Don't post questions in Development, thread moved.

Branded phone. on stock 14.2.a.1.136
I have a question, Would my phone Imei number set itself to 000000000 if I flash the kitkat rom for my device? I tried flashing a stock rom on another build number which was unbranded and that resulted in no service, no connection to my sim manufacturer or able to look up the kernel, nothing worked. So please reply to my post. My phone is bound for 12 months and I would really like to flash a custom rom like Cyanogen on my device. Is there a way to do this or do I have to wait for a year?
After searching the xda forums I finally found a way to get my phone service up and running again.
My phone is Sony Xperia z1 build 6903 Stock 14.2.a.1.136. bound to a norwegian phone service named Telenor.
Any help or tips are much appreciated, I would really like to avoid encountering the same problem again it costed me alot of grief and will not continue to flash or do anything regarding my phone until someone would be kind enough to point me towards the how to's. Thank you for reading
The "how to's" are very well sign posted in the general and development threads, they are stickies
No, you will not lose IMEI
Thx for replying to my post. one up

you cant use cyanogen rom bcoz it needs a custom kernel, and for you to be able to flash custom kernel you must have an unlocked bootloader..
im not an expert here but i think you cant unlock your bootloader if it is simlocked to your operator
you can only use modified stock rom as mention here by "gregbradley"
so i think you'll have to wait for 12 months for you to flash cyanogen based rom
Sim lock had nothing to do with boot loader unlock. Some Sim locked devices can be unlocked, some Sim free devices can not be unlocked

Well i already have the sim unlock code. so i Will still use the same sim card, but how do warp into the sim unlock mode? I tried setting in another sim card but the phone just asked me to insert the pin for that as well. Then again I would love to unlock my phone and use the same sim card, only difference the phone will be totally mine. So i can flash whatever rom and kernel that suits me. I have been using cyanogen since day one and would love continue to do so.

Your SIM unlock code will not unlock the bootloader, so you will still be unable to flash custom kernels.
Please read what I have said, SIM unlock has nothing to do with Bootloader unlock.
It is true most branded phones have bootloaders which cannot be unlocked and most SIM free phones canbe unlocked. But that is not an exclusive rule.
If you cannot unlock it now, entering a SIM unlock code will NOT unlock your bootloader.
To enter your SIM unlock code, contact your provider who would have given it to you.

You may want to not show your IMEI number to the world.
You can now goto the Sony website and unlock your bootloader using the official way. You can do this whilst you are still SIM locked, proving my point that SIM lock has nothing to do with bootloader unlock
What possible harm can be done with my imei number? Well sim lock certainly voids the service connection flashing builds earlier than 290.

That's not the SIM lock that does that. It does it on my phone and its SIM free.
Ok

I deleted the post, now final question deleting the sim lock literally will then not unlock my bootloader, that I am able to do as of now. But Completely deleting the sim lock will then leave my phone at my disposal, right? Since I have the sim unlock code, but I need to know how to remove the sim lock from my phone, cause using another sim card, which is not from the same company does not jump start the unlock mode.
Tell me if I got everything right. when I insert the sim unlock the sim lock will be completely gone from my phone right? regardless of what kernel or rom I use? and it can never come back?

Yes, just ask the provider of the sim unlock code how to enter it. It should be your network provider. SIM locks or restrictiosn are nothing to do with firmware, android versions or kernels.
Your bootloader can be unlocked now by visiting the official sony website.
Please do not confuse bootloader and sim lock. they are two different issues and you keep talking as if they are related.
My friend has a 910A At*T Note 4 - I unlocked it and her data, calls, pics, texts all work GREAT!
Now what else should I do to prepare it to get a T-Mobile Rom, as she is with T-Mobile and wants root and a custom rom on it
Thanks in advance - tried searching nothing much came up on this Topic.
N910A has a locked bootloader you cannot flash ROMS on it.

To my knowledge there is no root nor anyway to unlock the bootloader.
The phone is locked down.
That is why people who wanted root bought the N910T from tmobile and use it on AT&T.
Sorry to burst your bubble.

I unlocked my AT&T Note 4 and am trying to use it with T-Mobile but it won't register on their network. I can't even make calls, I can only get numbers off of the sim card. Any ideas on what I could do?
