Is HD radio reception based on an external antenna (elongated external hardware)?
Or is it the reception somewhat like the reception of cell phones (internal hardware)?
I assume by HD you are referring to the Touch HD (As opposed to HD digital radio).
If the HD's FM radio is at all like the Raphael's (and I have no reason do doubt it), then the reception is totally dependent upon a headset/audio-out cable to act as an antenna. The HTC FM radio app won't even let you open the tuner without a headset plugged in (even though you can output the audio to the loudspeaker).
I saw a radio app on freewarepocketpc.net that worked with my Fuze, despite the lack of headset, however:
a) It didn't produce any audio, despite claiming to have a fairly strong signal.
b) It replaced one of the system fonts with some LCD font that was kinda annoying.
As far as HD digital radio, the tuner in my Fuze seems to be a normal analog FM tuner (with an RDS decoder).

Is it possible to use the existing hardware within the TyTNII for receiving FM radio signals? Surely it'd be a case of utilising the same hardware used for WiFi (802.11x = 2.4GHz), but at a lower frequency (FM 88.0MHz-108.0MHz)..
I was disappointed that FM radio was not an included feature of the TyTNII, however I'm happy with just about everything else about it. The only comparable phone that I was considering is the Eten X500+ glofiish which does have FM radio.
If there is already an FM radio application, please hook me up.

NOPE kaiser does not have fm transmitter ...
if it was simply the case of utilizing the same hardware.......then surely, every single ppc with wifi could be modded to receive fm radio signal. holy cow, you know what i realized, my laptop has wifi too! i'm sooo gonna mod it to receive fm radio
just because they use the same term "radio frequency" doesn't always mean that they're interchangeable. so let's review this... since TyTn II has WiFi radio chip is there any software to turn it into:
satellite dish receiver?
citizen band transceiver?
(hd)tv tuner?
microwave oven?
fm radio? ... maybe not
bluetooth - there's a dedicated component/module for this
GPS - there's a dedicated component/module for this
but who knows if there was a disabled chip that can potentially be activated (as long as the hardware is there and accessible), there might be possibilities
one word: SEARCH!
there is a LONG thread on this in one of the kaiser sections which has long been buried which has determined that the kaiser does not have the proper hardware to receive FM radio signals. the touch cruise can receive them IIRC but the kaiser cannot due to the lack of a needed chip.

Threads like this should be closed the second they are posted. Sorry if i sound like a know it all, but i am a amateur radio operator, hence I have alo't of experience in the radio field. Using a modulated 2.4ghz transciever in impossible to re-modulate it to the am/fm bands. it just wont work.
second. you have to have a on board antenna and a tuner that is resonant on those freq's and the kaiser/tilt does not.
Third. Dutty has been tinkering on a idea of getting it to work, and following what he is thinking it might work, however the reception most likely will be limited.
Fourth. If a radio is such a big deal then buy a am/fm portable radio, or buy a sony w580i,
Fifth. SEARCH, there are plenty of threads regarding this.

Sixth. Using wifi or data go to www.thestreamcenter.com/pda and listen to all the FM radio your heart desires
Wow! Thanks for that link.
...or get one of the many internet radio programs available (such as Resco Pocket Radio).
Looking for an application that transmits from phone to fm radio.
I don't believethe phone has an FM transmitter, even if you did find an app for it, it wouldn't work without one.
For my FM needs, I acquired an FM transmitter that plugs into the headphone jack.
Do you mean have your phone play fm radio? If so try cherry rplayer.
Sent from my Eris on Metro PCS using Swype
people have asked about FM support (either receiving or transmitting) but it's a null point.
The eris has absolutely no way of communicating over FM signals.
well, not including external addons of course.

There is no reason that any FM transmitter with a 3.5" jack connection (the vast majority of them) would not work on an HD2. Just don't get one of those that connect only via the IPOD dock connector.
So, it's not really an HD2-specific question. Better to post in a forum about accessories for all phones.
I haven't had great results myself, with any FM transmitter. It is hard to find a good frequency to transmit on. Then, if you find one, that works well in one place--as you drive around in the car, you might easily find that frequency doesn't work well any more--noise interference, etc. As you are driving, it could not be safe to fiddle around a lot with changing frequencies as you drive.
I haven't been happy with any I have tried.
Other opinions?
what is an FM transmitter for, is it to do stuff like broadcast GPS directions on your car speakers, or is it for getting traffic information on the GPS software?

It is to broadcast any sound from any device with a 3.5 sound jack, through the car radio.
Most often they are used for playing music from your MP3 player (in this case the phone), through your car radio.
It would also work for any other sound though--phone calls, etc. (Only works in one direction, however, so if the phone is far from your mouth, may not be too great to use on phone calls, if you want the other party to hear you.)

I think its hard to recommend...I have a Belkin iTrip that I picked up at Wal-Mart when me and we took our kids to Disneyland this past June. It works flawlessly in my wifes Jetta (which is what we drove to California in) and the sound was actually much better than I could have ever expected.
...however, in my Grand Vitara...its almost completely unusable, when I can get a station to pick it up...its far below FM quality and I have to have the phone in a certain location and in a specific position just to acheive this.
I have been looking into either getting a bluetooth receiver to attach to the stock head unit...or replacing the head unit all together (I would prefer to keep the stock one though)
I think it has something to do with the power of the antenna on your stereo, which is going to vary with every vehicle.
I did find a little gadget that you simply plug into the antenna input on the back of the stereo and plug the antenna into this gadget...when you turn the gadget on...it basically makes every radio station pure static by shutting off the antenna (It was only like $10.00...and I think it would work if you wanted to go the transmitter way)
Use a speakerphone with FM transmitter
I use a motorola T505 and you can get them for around $50 or so.

Those specs look wrong. It's got a snapdragon and 576 ram.

The chances of HTC NOT using the same wifi/bluetooth/fm chip they've used on their past phones this year are very slim.
Meaning, fm tuner is built in hardware wise.

I think you'll find he posted the minimum specification requirements set out by Microsoft, and so no Windows Phone 7 should come without FM Radio, but what do I know - I haven't got the HD7.... yet.
So can any owners confirm if it has hardware fm radio and not just internet radio please?
The HD7 DOES have FM Radio it can be found under the Music & Video Hub
You do need the headphones pluged in though
yeah fm wont work without headphones, says
"No antenna
this phone uses your headphones as and FM radio antenna, To listen to the radio, connect your headphones."
FYI you don't need to plug in headphones to listen to the radio on loud speaker. you can also just plug in any kind of adaptor (without the headphone leads) such as a headphone splitter and it will still work.

ummmmm snapdragon is a scorpion / A8 core
secondly those are MINIMUM specs, 256MB is the MINIMUM not required
thirdly, MS requires this for the Zune application. It's a common basic feature of the OS, it has to have an FM radio in it.

Great question - just tried and No, you need to have 'something' plugged into the headphone jack so that the phone thinks there is a cord to use as an antenna.
I found a car stereo at an affordable price these days. When you are going for a budget build, you definitely expect to make some compromises. Maybe this not be the best car stereo on the market, but it is the best value. The model we are going to talk about is Pumpkin Android 9.0 universal applicable infotainment system car stereo.

First and only post by "mandyoritz." Obvious spam. Clearly Pumpkin condones and uses deceit and spam, so should NOT be considered if you're looking for a head unit. Don't reward dishonest behavior. Consider anyone EXCEPT Pumpkin.
Oh, and they posted in the wrong place for an Android based head unit, couldn't even figure that out.
