HardSPL via SD possibility? USB broken. - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi! I've flashed official firmware and SPL on my AT&T Tilt, cause a lot of problems in non-official firmwares (occasional hard-resets, freezes, etc). Now phone is working ok, and I wan't to come back to cooked roms, but I've no success in flashing the HardSPL, because my USB jack is broken in phone (only charging is working). I've only a possibility to flash via SD. I have tried to load KAISDIAG via SD, but SSPL says only "Loading..." and nothing else.
Is there any possibility to flash HardSPL via SD, or I've to resolder my USB jack?
Help me, please

edit I don't know.

You can only change your Hardspl from your SD card. You can only initially flash Hardspl from your Pc .

So, the answer is: you have to repair your USB to flash HardSPL.
Am I right?

You are right, sorry I wasn't clear.

Very bad

you can use jump SPL and then flash hard SPL from SD

Providing you had the foresight download and maintain jumpspl on your phone prior to your usb port breaking

but jumpspl can still be "downloaded and maintained" on the device using the mobile browser to access the internet over wifi and/or the data connection...?
so would i be correct if i summarized all the posts in this thread by concluding that a broken usb port is not a hurdle in getting hard spl on your phone?
cuz badillo says hard spl can be applied from sd...and denco7 says that jumpspl is required to get the process started...and i propose that jumpspl can be downloaded to the device by wireless means...
or is this conclusion of mine incorrect?

hmm jumpspl on a sd and copy to the fone?
i honestly think thas jumpspl, and sdcard update cant work together.
but please prove us wrong, it makes unlocking a lot more easy

i want an answer to this topic!!
I have a problem which I need to change hardspl also
thank you very much

You have to have a usb sync for first h-spl 3.29 after that you can read the instructions in h-spl breakdown by Dave Shaw in Sticky ROM dev and surely enough you can flash via SD

I mean i want an answer to post #9, since my usb port is broken.. i can't do usb sync.

Thanks for your reply Philux-X,
However, this is for the Kaiser, I was looking for something more general as I have an HTC Diamond instead. My research concluded that HardSPL via SD is not possible. I was wondering if any smart people here know of any alternatives.. I'm willing to take risks.

Bottom line is , you can only upgrade your hardspl via SD Card, you can only hardspl from stock spl via usb connection.
Believe me a lot of smart people have tried for a while.

You are in the KAISER Forum! You need to be asking this in the Diamond Forum! I only gave you that info assuming you were a Kaiser user! Anything Kaiser will only brick your device for sure!!!!!!!!!
Update your signature to what your device credentials are so people are able to help you better! Take mine and Denco7's for example. If more people had their signatures setup, it would make it so much easier to give out advice!
EDIT: If usb is broken how are you charging the device?

The Diamond does not require the launch of a jump spl, the hardspl package by olinex has all the required files in it. But it must be run from the PC which requires an active sync connection

And Diamond user stop double posting, go to Diamond section and do your research........
Denco7 has answered you in 2 threads yet you still coming back to Kaiser section...

Unbrick Trinity From SD

Need a favours over here. Recently, i bricked my trinity. P3600 more precisely Dopod D810 (i flashed wrong ROM -> Unpacking cooked rom for trinity but i merge it with -Hermes cmd in NBMerge! houh... so stupid! ). Soo... just not what i expected, Rom flashing stop on half, SR my trin and tada.... 3Color screen bootloader popup! haaarggg, i try flashing another rom using any rom that has same CID *official or cooked rom* (some are 100% thru, but someother not) but like usual it won't start the windows (just blank/black screen with green led[ always on!) Never been like this before! Have been flashing several times using any cooked rom by great chef on trinity but this time! damn it! my bad.
i found solution on the forum *Unbricking Trinity Stuck on Bootloader* but since my usb port can't be detected on my vista/xp machine, whether i disable AS and changed my usb cable it doesnt work at all, on mtty too! so i can't use that utility. i try run install sspl olipro 1.3 but it never changed my spl at all. now i can't use my trin at all cuz allready dead.
btw this is the info on trin 3color screen bootloader:
IPL 1.00
SPL 3.20 OLIPRO
anysolution for bringing back my trinity from the death? maybe a tools/utility to unbrick trinity from SD or something like that, which not involved any pc connection, without bring this devices to htc center of course.
I hope any expertise on this forum would helped me sort out this probs.
Sorry for my english and thanks for reading my post.
Read this :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=308691 download splxploit-windows.zip (935.1 KB, 7619 views) put phone in bootloader run splxploit when bootloader change
After this download full rom here is link:http://rapidshare.com/files/21174752/RUU_Trinity_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.5_6275_1.20.00.11_12201_Ship.exe
Then flash full rom bat do not disconnect usb cable in any step.
Before use any step disable active sync.
Usb are dead
Gsmhacks thanks for ure reply. I have tried that one, and lot read ing on wiki. But since i cant use the usb i cant use that splexploit whether on live linuxcd, or .Net version even win version. The usb port cant be opened . I think i broke the usb pin. From the beginning everytime i flashed my trin i never used ruu utility, i always do the sd card method and that is the best and easiest method and it works for me.
I just curious perhaps can anyone or is there any utility to unbrick trin via sd card. I knew a lot a people has bring their trinity life from dead by using htc stackflow splexploit. I hope that was work for me too! Too bad my usb are dead. Damn!
Here what you need bat only work if you have hard spl
If you install hard spl before brick trinity you can use SD CARD to flash trinity. YOu need to formate sd card to FAT32 with Card Reader donwload full rom here is link: http://rapidshare.com/files/21174752/RUU_Trinity_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.5_6275_1.20.00.11_12201_Ship.exe
then extract and file RUU_Signed.nbh rename to TRINIMG.nbh and copy it to the root folder of your miniSD card.
Here is full instruction again also first format sd card to FAT32 !!!! VERY IMORTANT to format sd card to FAT32 or all other step will not work THEN:
1. Extract the .NBH file from your prefered ROM upgrade: In windows use winrar (right click) to extract the contents of the exe file. In Linux / MacOS use cabextract (or you can also use winrar via wine).
2. Rename the .NBH file to TRINIMG.nbh and copy it to the root folder of your miniSD card.
3. With miniSD card inserted on the phone, start the bootloader (hold Power button on right side and Camera button at same time and stick with stylus in RESET on bottom).
4. You should see the screen pictured on the left, confirm flashing on screen by pressing the power button.
5. Flashing might hang after some time but this is normal. Just wait. Complete flash takes about 30 minutes, so check your battery or connect to charger before the flashing process starts.
6. When flashing completes soft-reset your device.
and you will flash and unbrick trinity bat this only work if you install before this hard spl i mean cid unlock trinity. if not you must fix usb port.
That will work? I hope so
Ok then i'll try flashing using that rom. Oo, i have install hardspl btw and so far flashing using sdcard method no probs. But after i bricked my trin flashing doesnt smooth like be4. Always gave me error 0018003 update fail on the halfway, i guess because i have bad nand on trin and probably cuz cooked rom.
Can u give me another link, perhaps on xda ftp. rapids so slow 4 me. Btw i have download dopodasiawwe official rom on xda ftp *twice but still when i tried to run the package it gave me corrupt archive integrity fail w!f.
Thanks gsmhackerns, i downloading the package now!
Perhaps you can find a way to make a goldcard for Trinity?
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=437996
That's what i looking for! Thanks.
Humm, superb. Yay, great! Thank you stepw. Even its for elf with a little mod i hope this will work. Once again thank you.
Stepw, i have tried making the gold card, everything went ok. I have temp. cid *supercid* but the probs now is i can't download http://rapidshare.com/files/21174752/RUU_Trinity_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.5_6275_1.20.00.11_12201_Ship.execan someone uploaded to somewhere else. Rapidshare crap! perhaps on xda ftp.
thanks!
goldcard cannot help in such a situation.
I can however make an SSPL that loads off SD card - just like for kaiser you will be able to use it because you are already on hardspl.
then that will allow you to flash stock SPL.
PM me and send your MSN address, so we can test it out. if it works i'll post it in this thread too in case others get stuck also

Indeed. Youre right cmonex, it doesnt make any difference at all 4 my trin. After several tried using and making goldcard 4 trin, finally i made working goldcard4trin, but gosh it still stuck when i tried to update the os (update os fail) humm anyone.
Sorry for wasting your time with Goldcard, I have overlooked that you have a hard spl on your Trinity. In this case goldcard doesn't make a lot of difference.
And there's no trindiag.nb to the best of my knowledge that could be used instead of SSPL cmonex is suggesting to run from SD.
Back to the topic, sounds like you have some "bad" blocks in flash and OS can't be flashed. Bad blocks can be reset with "task 2a" command, see this thread for more details:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330496
The question is how to run it without USB and I don't have an answer for you
Some people have previously mentioned they managed to flash smaller OS images when larger images failed, perhaps if you try flashing some minimal vanilla ROM, it will succeed?
Bad NAND, Yup!
Ya... as i mention before yup i do have bad nand block on my devices. Using manila rom with smaller img size the flash went 'OK'. But it doesn't boot at all infact just black screen with green led on.
Okay the only solution probably use mtty and do task 2a if i'm not mistaken. But like you said "The problem is the USB port". I think the port is ok cuz i already tested it connecting my usb to my trin without inserting the battery and the red led *magenta* is on. humm, weird!
But if something can make it working without involving any pc connection it would be a great achievement. hahah! well i supposed i have to put my trin on bunker before someone can make it happens
I asked SEA in my country and they recommend me to changed the machine it self and they charge me around US $160 ho...ho.. too "wideeeeee" for college boy like me
Same problem, i flashed the rom
RUU_Trinity_DOPODASIA_WWE_3.00.707.18_6275_1.46.30.11_108_Ship
and after that i tried to flash a new radio!
power+cam and the cell phone did not show usb, then i used sspl to rum the radio but it locked at 0%
after that it is stucked at bootloader screen
ipl 1.0
spl 3.20 .....
but no usb and no sd card !!
did i lost the cell phone?
there is no jtag ou something like that ?
so now... you still want this SSPL? i'm thinking of patching one up to automatically run task 2a maybe. or just restore stock spl for warranty service if that's what you have in mind. but you didn't really reply to that offer?
Please if you could build a sspl for this condition it would be enough because once sspl i can run a new ruu with hard-spl again ! the problem i believe was caused becaus this original rom's have a spl.nb inside , in the screen we read teh information about the olipro spl but i thing teh original spl.nb messed up the hard spl!
There is another problem, i formated to fat32 my card and put a TRINIMG.nbh of a rom inside and he did nothing!! same card in elf with ELFIMG.nbh of a rom runs great!!
It means that this spl of mine will not flash from card? goldcar would help?
and cant i flash something in serial ? like a jtag or something?
Anyhelp will be more than apreciated!
sorry the bad english
Needed!
Cmonex, sorry for longtime haven't seeing this thread again. okay i really need your help btw if you willing to help me. The spl your talking about perhaps can sort out the probs (i hope) at least we tried. as for task2a cmd to clear the bad nand block is none usefull for me since usb conn. are definitely drop dead.
how about patch the SSPL to do task2a cmd to solve the bad NAND block first.

no usb, no sd, no chance sorry. jtag it or get it serviced or get another phone.
as for jtag, hermes jtag has been worked out by scholbert. trinity is probably the same, but you will have to find the pins. the rest of the process will be the same.
Dear all,
I can't go to bootloader screen ..fff before I had on my trinity faman 4.03 rom and I would change with the NiAX rom... after 3% restart and I think that my phone brick and my phone stay on htc screen fff please help
I have windows vista and even if i follow all steps pfff it changes nothing...after hard reset ...fff please help ...
I think my trinity is out :-(????????????????????????
Please help,
The O.S is more important to these operations than can be stressed - for a 99% safe flash Win XP is your best bet , I have had nothing but error 260,270 halfway flashed roms and usb faults running on vista and since I had my original bricking episode - NOTHING , I repeat NOTHING including genuine roms has flashed without a recovery or at least without doing something strange in the process - SPLXPLOIT has been a saviour here , without it I would've been lost.
Cant the O.P simply use another machine to test out the USB theory ?
ALIVE AGAINnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!
My p3600 was stucked att bootloader, and wont give "usb" and do not read TINIMG.NBH (tried on elf with ELFIMG.nbh and the card was great)!
I did a golcard with the post on elf about it and the cell with the gold card inside was the same, no trinimg.nbh and no usb.............
BUT..............
with the goldcard inside, turned OFF, i placed it on the usb cable off the pc and the device booted to the bootloader screen, but this time he got "USB" , before flashing anything i removed the card , and putted switched off in the usb, booted with "serial" with card and pressing power and then placing usb still "serial" message!
I putted the card, did not switched on , placed on the usb and waited for it to boot for it self , and for my surprise "usb".
Flashed stock rom, and it booted nice!!!
Please try!
saved my day!

(Newbie) - A couple of questions before flashing my HD

I posted this deep in another thread (a sticky), but I think it fits better as a new topic because it is not specific to that other thread. I'll make a note in the other thread to avoid duplicates.
Okay....
I'm absolutely new to the world of ROMs and SPL, HSPL, SSPL and USPL - but I've been doing my homework today and I've read all of the wiki links more than once.
Before diving into it and making some dumb newbie mistake, I wanted to run a couple of things by you guys.
I have the German o2 ROM 1.14.207.2 (24011) GER.
I don't want the o2 branding, but I still want it in German.
So, I want to flash RUU_BlackStone_HTC_GER_1.14.407.3_Radio_52.49a.25. 26_1.09.25.14_Ship.exe
My understanding is that since these are both stock ROMs (at least I believe they both are, right?), my stock SPL should accept the new ROM without any problems. In other words, I don't need anything like USPL. Am I correct? Or do I actually need USPL because the new ROM is not from my current vendor which is o2?
Based on what I learned reading all the info, this is what I plan to do:
Turn off my phone, remove SIM and MicroSD
Enter boot mode (tricolor screen)
connect phone via usb to WMDC (Vista 32-bit). The settings are set to ALLOW usb connections
Disable my antivirus program
Disable all power saving modes, screensavers etc.
Run the RUU Ship.exe mentioned above as administrator
Follow instructions until device reboots
So now my warranty should still be fine. If I have to send the device in for repair, to I need to put the o2 ROM back on it?
Thanks for your help (and patience) with a newbie that scared to turn his HD into a brick. I think I'll wear diapers while I'm flashing - just in case.
I'll wait for some responses before I tackle the 7 steps above.

No, thats not true at all. For instance you can't flash a WWE Rom over a German Rom, although they are both stock roms. There is a country specific code (CID). The stock SPL is checking this, so its impossible to flash roms coming from another country.
I'm not sure if the stock SPL also checks the vendor/operator, but I guess it does.

You should just try it. The SPL will tell you whether it accepts the rom or not.

First of all you should consider which SPL you want to use. If you really just want to flash this new rom, USPL is good for you, if you are going to change your rom more frequently then HSPL is the way to go.
Instructions on how to use this SPLs are given in the appreciate threads (with many comments of other users), so you should look them up (again).

You warrany is fine, if the operator/vendor gets the device with the rom he shipped it to you (or any official upgrade provided by this operator/vendor). If you flash the official htc german rom, you might loose your warranty.

Read the USPL thread carefully - you have to disable allow usb connections. In vista you will probably find that you will have to downgrade the USB drivers - that is dealt with in Post 69 of the USPL thread - see also post 1 of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291723

yes, I had read that about disabling usb connections. I just thought that if I did not need USPL then I could leave usb connections enabled and try the other german ship.exe rom. Anyway, I think might need to alter the SPL anyway.
THANK YOU ALL for your responses. They were very helpful and it is time for me to get working on it when I get home.
I will post back my results.
Well, everything worked out fine.
I ended having to use USPL because my SPL did not accept the new stock ROM (same language, but different vendor: o2 vs. non-branded).
I did have to downgrade my vista drivers for it to work. I followed all the wiki instructions and had no problems.
Thanks again for the help.

Is it bricked? (Upgrade ROM error)

(I'm not 100% sure this is the correct forum, but since it is very ROM related it didn't feel all wrong to put it in here...)
Hi guys. After som serious flashing of cooked ROMs I decided for some unknown reason that I should try to restore a stock ROM. Now, being very tired as I was, i completely forgott that its probably a good idea to flash a new Stock ROM on the unit BEFORE flashing it with a signed SPL....so I just flashed the Signed SPL to the device. That in it self seem to have gone ok, because when I start the unit it say "SPL-1.15.0000". Problem is though that it also says "Upgrade ROM error, please try again"
Now, what should I do? Have tried put both signed and unsigned SPLs on the storage card and started up via the volume down/pwr button thingy, but that does not seem to do anything. I have also tried to attach the unit to a USB port when in tricolor mode ("USB" shows up on the screen) and tried the CustomRUU program. It finds the device and starts to "upgrade" (grey screen on the device with 0%) but then it just doesnt seem to get any further...
As the device was working fine with a custom ROM before I started all this, I suspect that the main problem proably is that I now have a Standard SPL with a cooked ROM, and that they collide sort of. I, as well as the Blackstone, is now stuck and I am all out of ideas what to do? Have also tried Hard and Soft resets, but that doesnt seem to change anything.
Help!
try removing the SD Card and put the phone into bootloader mode and re-flash the stock ROM! if this doesn't work ... still with the SD Card removed try flashing to USPL and flash the stock ROM again!
hope this helps
You can try USPL on your HD and flash a custom or stock ROM with it.

Thanks for the feedback!
Just be be sure, "into bootloader mode" is when you start the device holding down volume down and powerkey until you see the tricolor screen? Then that is probably what I have tried to do for a while now without success (total success that is, I do get into the tricolored screen)). Or maybe I am doing something wrong, could you perhaps point to a detailed explaination besides the one in "HardSPL" thread?
USPL I havnt tried, will do that! Is it still so that trying to do USPL on Vista is asking for trouble?
I read somewhere that Stock ROMs should only be flashed from internal storage, not SD cards, is that true? If so, how do I go about accessing that storage now when it doesnt show up in the file explorer on my PC (PC recognizes it as USB device, "HTC Sync" but I get no file access to it).

bootloader mode is when you power off the device and hold the volume button down and press power till you get the tricolor screen...
so here is what you need to do .
1. remove the sd card
2. go into the tricolor mode connect your device to the pc and make sure it says (USB) at the bottom
3. run the stock shipped exe from you pc
if that didn't work then you should try the USPL version.. and there is a guide if you are using vista.. i just tried and worked fine.. here it is
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3331078&postcount=153
and the reason i'm asking you to remove the sd card because if you have a rom (blacimg.nbh) it won't let you do anything it will try to flash from the sd card and right now you don't want to do that.
and you shouldn't put any rom into the internal storage of the phone..

i don't think anything would happen... the file will get deleted when you flash as the rest of the files in the internal memory
Thank you everyone! The USPL thing solved it, when I did it from a XP machine! The once bricked Blackstone is not alive an kicking again!
About USPL, I saw the workaround for Vista, but downgrading a few components to make it work just doesn't seem like a safe way to do it. And I cant help but to think that it might have unwanted side affects, ie affecting system stability. But maybe I am wrong?
Going back to shipped ROM without bricking?
Hi,
After reading this thread I am now a bit worried and, as a newbie, would appreciate maybe a "simple" answer to my question.
I''ve been experimenting with various cooked ROMs after following the guide in the WIKI for installing HardSPL and then putting the ROM file (BLACKIMG.nbh) on my SD card and installing it using the power on + volume down button method.
However, I now want to revert back to the original "shipped" ROM, which I have downloaded from the list of shipped ROMs via the WIKI (I downloaded the one which closely matched what was originally on my HD - as I didn't know how to backup the actual ROM on my HD at the time).
So, my question:
How should I put the downloaded original/shipped ROM:
RUU_BlackStone_HTC_WWE_1.14.405.3_Radio_52.49a.25.26_1.09.25.14_Ship.exe
into my HD without bricking it?! Do I just run it on my PC with ActiveSync enabled or do I need to do something to remove the HardSPL or something first?
Sorry if this has been answered previously but I get confused when a thread just makes loads of references to SPLthis and SPLthat etc.!
if you have the HardSPL already installed on your phone then you don't need to do anything more.. just connect your phone to the pc and let it sync (activesync enabled) and flash to any shipped rom you want by simply running the exe file..

Hi,
Yes, it's possible.
You can flash by sdcard.
You can search here in the forum all bout how to do it
Thanks
Yiiiiiipi
Yeeees THX i´m saved
You'll only be saved if you already have hspl installed. You will not be able to flash via sd card (and no usb) unless you have hspl 1.56.Olinex installed.

So if you have HDSPL already as mentioned by ClydeB1 then yes.
Only if you have HDSPL already then follow <<HERE>> for step by step instructions.
As much as I appreciate peoples responses, I feel we are only encouraging users to ask instead of searching for there answers.
This has been commented on loads of times before so need to to go over it again.
In future read the wiki, the stickies (i.e. threads at top of each forum)

Possible to flash rom with broken usb?

Hi,
My HTC Kaiser has a broken USB connection. It can only charge with it, but ActiveSync / mtty don't work. The computer never even registers the USB device, so I think it's a hardware fault.
I've extensively searched this forum to find a way to update the rom, as it now has an old WM6.0 one. It still works, so I can start SSPL's from it.
It seems that any installation method requires an USB connection or just doesn' work:
* JumpSPL shows the tricolor bootmenu, but waits there indefinitely (I think that waits for an USB connection)
* The regular HardSPL install using ActiveSync obviously doesn't work
* Trying to follow the MicroSD install as described in the "Kaiser intermittently stuck in SPL?" thread. That doesn't work either; the phone just says 'loading' on a white screen. I think that expects something to already be installed on the phone.
* mtty won't connect over USB (as the computer doesn't even list it)
Of course I tried different USB cables, not using USB hubs, another computer, but that doesn't fix it either. I think it's safe to say the usb data connection is simply broken on the phone.
I've also tried downloading the WM6.1 update from my provider, extracted the .nbh file and renamed it to KAISIMG.NBH, but the current SPL refuses to flash it ("not allow"). Don't know why, it's the same provider.
I've also done a hard reset, doesn't solve anything.
Just for the sake of completeness, the various rom versions that are installed:
r 1.27.12.29
g 22.45.88.07h
d 1.81.00.00
Is there any other method I can try? I think I exhausted them all..
yes

The steps in "Flashing via MicroSD Card using cmonex HardSPL 3.29" are the same as in the thread I mentioned above, and it has the same result also. After the soft-reset, the tricolor bootscreen shortly appears, after which a white screen appears with in blue the text 'loading'. It stalls on that though.
I've tried that with 2 different microSD cards (1GB, 6GB), and formatted them both to FAT32. I copied over the 2 files from the thread above (KAISDIAG.NBH and KAISIMG.NBH).
The tricolor boot screen displays, before going to the white screen:
KAIS130
SPL-1.81.000
CPLD-8
Anything else I can try?
usb?
maybe the proble, with your device and not in the usb connection. i have this problem myself. the only way to flash for me is via sd card, so it should work.
good luck, anyway
Did flashing via sd card work for you using the cmonex method? I wonder why it doesn't continue after the loading screen for me. It reads official full roms fine from the sd card, except that it does not allow flashing any of them.
First of all, this does not belong in the rom development section. This post has nothing to do with rom development and only serves to clutter this forum and irritate the people that may be willing to help. It belongs in the general section.
Since you are new, please read the forum rules on posting. It does not appear that you have HardSpl flashed to your, which precludes you from flashing hardspl, custom roms or flashing via the SD card method. If you want to flash, you will need to get your usb port fixed.
Moved as not ROM Development.
The noob guide gives all instructions and states you need usb for first h-spl flash.
Thanks for clearing that up, I'm out of luck then. I now see I overlooked the "FOR UPGRADING HARDSPL ONLY!!" clause on the hardspl installation FAQ.
What a shame, I really wanted to get android working on it, but with the current radio it's a lost cause.
