Can someone point me to a decent utility to backup my Cinguarl 8125 (i.e. Wiza100)? I read on one of the forums that the wizBackup.exe is a good file but I am not sure where to find it?
Thanks
wizbackup is a ROM backup/restore utility. Are you sure this is what you're looking for?
If you just want a regular backup utility (i.e. all your data, settings, etc.), look into one of these instead:
SPB Backup - http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/backup/?en
Sprite Backup - http://www.spritesoftware.com/pocketpc.php
Sunnysoft Backup Manager - http://www.sunnysoft.com/software.php?idarticle=51
I do want wizBackup
Hi Guys,
I understand that wizBackup.exe only backs up the ROM, which is what I want to do. Can you post it here because I cannot find it on the site either?
Many thanks,
That is exactly what I want too
Someone please post it for us.
Thanks.
Can't find it on the site now but...
...I did download it from here a couple of weeks ago.
Enjoy
Thanks for the post
Thanks for finding the download for us.
so that will back up all my tweaks and everything also?
No you have to use SPB or one of the others
i dont know if it was just me but when i tried to use this wizbackup..
my mmc became corrupt and i think i had to flash my phone again...
had to reformat my sd
I was recently VERY disappointed with SPB backup. It backs up fine, but the restore doesn't work. It corrupts the e-mail database during the restore and requires me to basically hard-reset it again and reinstall my apps.
I'll try Sprite next.
OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Don't use Wiz-backup, I used it to back up just a few minutes ago.
It wrote a backup file to my card, and then the software followed through some steps to use terminal software to copy the file off the card to my computer.
As soon as it begun copying to the card, I noticed I could not see the card under file explorer anymore. Either from my pc or the 8125.
My 2 gb mini-sd card is now un-readable.
I have downloaded a software called SPtaskmanager which would normally be able to reformat the card, right from the 8125. This software does not even recognize a card is in the slot, and the card does not show up in the 8125 file explorer or anywhere else I can see.
I don't have a card reader, that is the only thing left I know I can try, unless somebody knows some steps from a terminal software to take?!
NOT HAPPY!

I believe i had to reformat the card through a card reader on windows.. i had the same problem
OK so there IS HOPE.
Thank you!
/eagerly awaiting arrival of card reader
Why?
Why does this ROM backup prog. corrupt the Mini SD Card? I have a similar card. And also is it worth backing up the ROM? Because from what I have read one can't really downgrade the ROM once upgraded, so what's the use of backing it up anyways...
I don't think that ROM backup programs actually store the data in a directory & file layout, they just dump the whole ROM data block onto the card sequentially, which would indeed wipe out any existing directory structure. I'd have thought a ROM backup/restore utility would have to run at a very low OS level, without any file handling routines installed.
Andre
Flash disk now useless.....or is it? Help
I also used WizBackup and I am now left with a corrupt flash MiniSD card that no computer seems to be able to read or format. Does anyone know a way to reformat the card now that i have given it total amnesia??? Any help would be greatfully accepted. Sandisk was useless.
Thanks.
Can one backup Rom to PC and restore from PC if one doesnt have SD Card??
Thanks
As Andrew posted, it writes the data onto the card directly.. Like an image of the ROM. To properly recover your card your gonna need a card reader and a tool to format it. Try this software to recover and reformat the card... http://www.datadoctor.in/
Good Luck
Don't get it..?
First you back up your ROM on a your card, then if it gets corrupt (but it does mostly) you reformat it! What was the point of backing up? Isnt't the data lost..?

I think people are getting confused with the backup util. That util should be used with a 128meg SD which the systems backup the rom image to. Then you can use that card for later restores. But using a 2gig SD with your personal data on it is a no no, since the backup tool will write to the card without regard for format.
back then i have always been getting file corruption on my sd card and i have read up a lot on it but nothing really works. After i switched to Open Touch v3.0 it was fine until yesterday my sd card got corrupted again and i lost a lot of pictures.. Anyone have any solution?

sounds like you have a bad micro sd card. Corruption was common problem with the stock T-Mobile rom but not usually a problem with other roms.
Maybe you can take it out and format it. Hard Reset the phone and try it again.
You can format your card with Windows and that should work fine. Also I've had this program for awhile which is supposed to be far superior to any other program for formatting Micro SD Cards, but I've never used it. Here it is if you'd like it.
any special way to format it or should i just right click and then format?

It might be best to take the card out of the phone. Put it in a card reader and format it on your PC, then put it back in the phone. Making sure you hear it Click in.

I think there are some possible reasons causing troubles like this.
- Files where not cleanly closed at poweroff.
Alway make sure, all programms and applications are terminated before you shut down.
- Incompatible SD-Card
Always refrain from cheap and/or unbranded Cards. I use a Toshiba 2GB SDCard. Never had any problems. Even with the orginal stock ROM with WM5.
- defective SD-Card
Kinda hard to detect if you have just one card. Plug the SDCard into your PC and do a "surfacescan" on the virtual Drive.
- unstable SD-Card connectors
Try to clean the connection-pads on the card and inside your device with a small brush or paper tissue. Never use any other fluits than water to clean connection-pads on the card and just a little drop of it. Make sure everything is dry before you turn your device back on or some parts could get seriously damaged!
I think its also a good advice to see your SD-Card and Systemmemory as a very unsafe and unstable place for critical data. Always do backups as often as you can.
Sorry, for my bad english. Its late and I already had some drinks PLUS I am not very used to speak english anymore..

Don't install any programs that may be running at any given time on your SD card. If you have a program running (that's installed on the SD card) and you phone hibernates/shuts down after not being used ... will cause SD corruption.
Nothing with a Today plugin that you use ... nothing that you may accidently leave running.

You are right. It was not zipped right. I took it down. Zipped it correctly, tested it and reuploaded it. The one thats there now is the new one. This is supposed to be Professional software. The guy I got it from said it was the Best thing on the Market. I had never used it before, but I tested it today and it works fine.
Cheers!
Mine corrupted too
Hi, just few minutes back I was trying to copy some files from external harddisk to my wing's stock supplied Sandisk 1 gb memory card and looks like it got corrupted. All I see is some junk characters and boxes as file name. I lost all my (memorable)photos and softwares . I was trying to copy directly from my external disk to phones storage card and I am not sure whether this caused this issue. I have Open touch 2.7 biggy.
I have two questions.
a. Where does active sync stores all the files, contacts, calendar entries in computer (the directory path). I tried searching in the computer but could not find it.
b. Does active sync saves my storage cards file too? I dont believe so. Is there a way to ask active sync to backup files from SD card too?
Thanks in advance
So i want to follow this tutorial:
[
in order so that my phone will work a bit faster, but
when I copy all the files from my sd card to my desktop on my computer
the folder res, cant be copy cause it has long name of files inside. This res folder in located under a Android folder on the root of my sd card.
is the android folder is important?
thank you for your help
Use something like estrongs file manager to compress/zip the folder, and then copy the zip to your PC...
is the Android folder important on the root directory ?
I tried and it didnt work
I don't have a res folder--so may not be that important--depends what files are in there
They may be replaced when you do a nandroid restore or flash a new rom
Your tutorial you are using never got posted
i did notice that i did not add the link to the tutorial which I am following. But the tutorial can be found, on this web site:
Nexus one Q&A>Newbie Friendly How To's w/ Instructional Videos>How To Switch to a Different SD Card (for use with Swap, Hero ROMs, etc.)
I am not yet allow to post links. I am consider a newbie, regarding theses topics
http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/15/ho...-android-when-using-swap-hero-and-or-apps2sd/
this is the tutorial
Well,
If you are familiar with your phone and getting into and out of recovery--here is what I do--using Amon_Ra recovery--I don't like Rom Mgr/Clockwork Mod.
Copy contents of SD Card to PC.
Power off phone and pull sd card out and using a card reader, reformat it on pc with sdformatter from web. Format Type-Full Erase On and Format Size Adjustment-On.
Put it back in phone and boot into recovery--hold down vol-/pwr/trackball at same time until phone boots and select recovery.
Then go to Partition SD Card/Partition SD. Select 1gb ext size (if you have an 8gb card or bigger) and 0 swap. Once done go back to Partition SD screen and select xext2 to ext3. When done go back to first recovery screen. Here you can USB Toggle and copy contents from pc back to SD Card.
At this depends what you want to do. Restore a nandroid or flash a new rom. Either way I usually wipe ALL data and caches at least 3X and restore or flash new rom.
Hope this helps,
Ken
it helps some what,
Do i need to format my sd card in fat32 or NTFS format?
another question is that when I try to do a simple select all copy and paste unto a different folder in my computer, it gets to a point where it does not want to copy (res folder) which is located under the android folder. Is this folder (res) to any importance??/?
thank you
Fat32, but I think sdformatter accounts for that--I don't remember a selection
sdformatter puts card back to original/new condition--I highly recommend it
As I mentioned, I have no res folder, DR's suggestion is a good option
Look and see what files are in it, may just be apps/images that will get put back eventually
Here is Google Search link--search is your friend http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt...s+folder&fr=att-portal&toggle=1&cop=&ei=UTF-8 It may give you some answers
You could also try adding a .bak to name of folder thru Root Explorer and maybe copy/paste it to phone somewhere from sd card folder shown in Root Explorer, then as soon as you reload sd card, go back to Root Explorer and copy/paste it back to Android and change name back.
I am not sure about that, maybe someone can confirm that would work and not mess up anything. If you nandroid, it shouldn't matter--??
If you are new to all this it just takes time and a lot of searches and thread reading--as long as do nandroids and use Titanium Backup for your app management, you can recover from anything.
Ken
http://efreedom.com/Question/1-2965149/Res-Src-Folder-Relation-Eclipse-Android
I think that folder is put there when doing development projects, if you or someone used SDK and/or Eclipse that's how it got there--so doubt if you need it
Just an opinion, I am not a dev or very tech savvy with Android OS
Hello,
I am so new to this it is not even funny. I have been relentlessly trying to root an SD card for my nook. I am following the thread on this site that gives step by step instructions and all links - ([ROM][CM7] [v1.3] Size-agnostic SD Card image and CM7 installer for SD Cards.). When I download the "image" at the beginning of the steps - the one you have to unzip- my computer downloads it as a .bin file and nothing, and I mean nothing, I have tried will unzip that damn image. I have burned through 2 SD cards trying. I do not know what to do. I have downloaded every unzip utility on both Mac and Windows to no avail. If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it. Thank you for your time.

Something is wrong with your PC. It should have a single file in the zip that ends in .img. Try downloading with your nook or a different PC. (Also some PCs hide the .zip ending from you, which I think really sucks.)

Yes, you need to rename the rom zip file with update- at the beginning. CM changed their naming standard to cm-. You obviously did not use my image or that would have been fixed. You will have to rename the zips everytime you flash a new one.

Yes, unzip them. Just put the card in your PC and copy those two files to the SD. They will replace the two files that are there. That's all there is to it. Next time you boot to sd recovery it will use those files instead of the old ones. And it will recognize the new file names for the rom zips.

Something is very wrong there. Those two files are tiny. And they are replacing files already there so should take no more room. You were probably not taking the card out and putting in your PC. You were probably plugging in the USB cable. You need to do the first thing. Put card in PC.
Edit: Something is really wrong with your Mac. First it will not download or read the zips right, then it will not let you rename the rom .zip and now it will not let you copy files to the boot partition. It is your Mac that is the problem, not the card size.

I was placing the card into the PC. Also I didnt use my Mac for the card, I used a Windows PC. I followed all the instructions from verygreen when making the card and used Winimage to write it. When I insert the card into my computer I get two different files a boot that contains the boot.bin file and the ram and image files. And then there is a seperate file/drive on the sd labeled SD cm7.
If I make a new SD card, do I use verygreens' image file and then add your two files or do I use your two files only or is there another file I am missing? I might end up paying the 40 for the SD card already done, though I really hate t spend the money if I could just get it right.
Anyway thanks for everything....again!!! and I am sorry for my incompetence

Yes. But to get back to stock to just run it, press the n key while the cyanoboot logo first shows and the boot menu comes up. Then you can choose to boot to emmc, which in your case is stock. Or just take the card out.
Before I upgraded from a 4.1 to a 4.2 based rom, I copied all my files from my sd card and then flashed the Rom. Then I formatted my phone's storage so I wouldn't have that weird 2 sd card file system going and so that I could see all my old files which I pasted back onto my phone. When I boot into cwm, and want to install a .zip, I see a couple folders such as the cwm folder and venom folder and legacy folder, and I find that my sd cards files are not under root and I have to go to /0. If I go into a file explorer such as we file explorer, I can't see any files under the the place where those several folders are. Any ideas?

My phone says it's running low on memory while it still shows almost 10gb free when attached to my computer. I assume this is the problem...

Yeah, ive tried to format my phones internal storage but the problem is still there. Though it does free up a lot of space when I do it. I think it says it is low memory because there are duplicate files of everything on your sd card
