On my Kaiser (UK Vodaphone branded, with stock HTC WM6.1 ROM/Radio) I am having some problems using the internet, both through the phone and on my laptop via internet sharing.
I am able to use the internet/internet sharing for one session (one connection and disconnection of GPRS for lack of a better description), before it will stop working. The GPRS will still connect, but I cannot get any data transfer to happen unless I do a soft reset. The internet/internet sharing will then work again for one session.
Obviously this is frustrating. Does anyone have a fix, or know what is happening?

This is probably a very specific issue that I'm experiencing but hopefully someone out there can help me.
I recently got an HTC Touch Diamond, running WM6.1. I use Internet Sharing on the phone and then connect it to my PC via a USB cable. I can then browse the web from my PC. If I now connect to my office VPN, it seems that the connection times out and / or is very slow. I can't even browse to other PC's on the network via the VPN connection as it times out. But I can ping the PC's so I know I'm definatly on the network.
Now I know what everyone is thinking... our VPN might be screwy. But if I use someone else in the office's phone (running WM6.0) I can connect and there is no problem whatsoever. The only difference is that he is on a different service provider than me (and of course a different phone).
I used to have a SE M600i before this phone and it worked perfectly on that (same service provider as now).
Has anyone experienced anything simular? Or have any ideas what I could check?
I've played around abit and found the following: When I take my SIM card and put it into another HTC running WM6.0 (can't remember the model) it works perfectly and I can browse our intranet sites over the VPN. So the problem is definatly limited to my phone.
I also used Internet Sharing on the other phone and then established the VPN connection from my laptop. I didn't change any of the settings so it is 100% the same on both phones as download from the service provider upon insertion of the SIM card.
On my phone when I'm connected to the VPN I can browse the network shares and download email, but as soon as I try and browse our intranet websites or try to connect to any database (using TOAD etc.) it doesn't seem to be able to retrieve data. Almost like the phone is not able to handle large amounts of data coming through... (i'm just guessing here)
Anyone know of any setting somewhere on the phone that could cause this to happen?
Finally got this working!!
I'm now using WMWiFiRouter to use my phone as a WiFi router and then connect to the internet from my pc. If I then connect to the VPN from my PC everything works fine.
I'm not sure if WMWiFiRouter implements Internet Connection Sharing differently than the normal ICS app on the phone, but it seems to work and it's pretty fast.
Can't believe it took two months - with absolutely no else seeming to have this issue - but I'm glad it's over now!!

bump
still haven't figured it out..
i'm in the opposite boat... cant get it to work over wifi...
stupid thing... i can browse net using opera / IE but it tries to use GPRS when i have a good wifi connection!!!
Newer Windows Live always tries to connect using your default Internet Connection even when you are already online. To solve this, you need to go to:
Start->Settings->Connections->Advanced->Select Networks. Change everything to My Work Network.
With this, Windows Live won't try to connect when you have active internet connection. The problem now is, if you have no active internet connection, it will force your device to connect to your gprs/3g but will fail to work. You will need to reset the setting above to your gprs/3g connection.
Hi,
I have a problem with the GPRS and Wireless connection. I am using Windows Live mail and and set it up so it is manually synchronized! Same with other mail accounts.
But, every time I connect to the internet using wireless and then press Send/Recieve, it keeps opening GPRS and use it to retrieve new e-mails and ignores my wireless connection!!! Which is really annoying.
How do I fix that?
I have exactly the same... but then with internet sharing with my laptop... keeps using my gprs/3g instead off the wifi that is 100 times faster.
annoying
and it is really annoying as you said, it is much faster with wifi and for people like me where I do not have monthly GPRS data included, it's really annoying and costs a lot.
Earlier, I had my e-mail to automatically download new emails daily and suddenly, I got a huge phone bill because of that problem!! So, e-mails are downloaded manually now until I fix the problem!!

yes but
Yes but chaning preferences for my network would result in not having my mms working, or gprs when I need it?
However, I have to go back to settings and change everything again to get things to work!!!! I would rather have a solution than a workaround
not working

Have you tried NoDATA with HTC Diamond with WM6.1?? NoData seems to be an old cab file for older versions of WM?
Hi all - got a Kaiser last week, learned a ton from reading the forums. I've searched and searched but can't find anyone with this particular problem.
Using RDM 6.1 I can connect no problem over wifi or HSDPA but as soon as my phone switches over to GPRS the connection dies. Or if I'm connected over GPRS it won't even start the connection.
Can this really be a bandwidth/speed issue? With my old Treo 680 (only capable of GPRS) I could use RDP.
Any thoughts?
Was the treo on another carriers network?
Hi Chumley - yeah, same carrier. Rogers in Canada.
I'm thinking I'll have to try other clients to see if the problem still exists. Problem is I can't install anything on the server side (locked down work server) so I'm limited to regular RDP.
Cheers,
Matt

I have a HTC Kaiser, WM6.1, shifu.20WWE rom an 1.70.19.09 radio. It works well for the local applications. It takes a long time to connect to T-mobile NL, but when it is connected I can be called. But then comes the problem, when I start any application or try to enter the internet the connection is lost with T-mobile. Anyone any idea? Thanks a lot
Have you verified that your settings are correct? You may need to run Connection Setup.
Yes, I also tried several Rom and radioversions. The HTC is autoconfiguring when starting the first time. When I give my pin it connects fine, but when opening any internet application the connection is lost.
An update to my problem. When I don't start any application also the connection is lost in half a minute. you have to register again to the network. It easily connect but the connection is lost in 30 seconds again.
