The swapper setting for it to not get corrupted when mounted is
sytem/sd/swap.swp
Right Because im going to mount my G1 via usb and want to make sure i dont corrupt my sd
/system/sd/swap.swp ... Yeah, that's it. Or do a swap partition (see my sig)

you will not corrupt you sd card with swapper on your fat32 partition. the corrupted partition message is a false positive if you restart the phone all is well. i dealt with that message for 3 weeks before moving to the ext3 on the sdcard cause i was tired of restarting my phone to get rid of the message. now i use linux-swap partition it's a whole lot better. if your using jac 2.63 that built in to the rom you just have to create the swap partition. but having the swap on the fat32 will not corrupt your card

right now im trying to install jacheroski but to do so, i need to reformat my card to fit a new sized fat32 ext2 and linux-swap. so im using paragon partition manager to do so...and the fat32 went fine...but when i try and reformat the ext2 it wont let me at all...
what could this be? and how could i change the ext2 partition to something else or in size?
thx

Use cyanogen's recovery console.
alt+x
#parted
#rm 2 <- this will delete the partition
#print <- find out what blocks are free
#mkpartfs primary ext2 xxxx xxxx <- the blocks that were free discovered from the above command
#exit
#reboot
I *think* these instructions should work, go ahead and test them out, if it doesn't, just delete all the partitions and use the instructions from JACHero thread (1st post, bottom) to repartition your sdcard.
well that wouldnt work for me at all...that whole parted process is screwy for me...but what i did was use some sdformatter from like sd association which formatted the whole card finally and now i can use partition manager again..but thx anyways =]
Hi
I have some big problems when I use an EXT2, EXT3 ore EXT4 partition on my SD card.
I want to use APPS2SD to save memory space, but as soon as I make an EXT partition on my SD card, my phone always hangs all the time in the startup.
I get the Android logo, and that the screen goes black with background light, and hangs like that fore 30min with no change.
But if I eject my SD card and start up without it, it's no problem, but now all my programs are in the SD card so they are missing.
What I've done:
I had CyanogenMod-4.2.05.
Made an EXT3 partiotion on my SD card.
Made an linux-swap 31mb partiotion
Updatet to CyanogenMod-4.2.11.1 and than it started up, added my progs to the SD.
Had 1 reboot with no problem, tried to update some programs, than it hang up on the update, woudnt update.
So I had an reboot, that when it started up I got a lot of error messages on the updates.
Tried an new update, and now it wont start up with the SD inserted.
I tried ext partition on my erlier CyanogenMod but same problem than also...
What could my problem be?
Have an 8gb class 4 micro SD card
when I now trie to install programs I get an error message "Insuffcient storage availble"
Clearly this is a problem with your sdcard. Try complete re-format first, followed by complete wipe and re-flash. If that doesn't help then you need a new sdcard.
Good luck.
In what order are your partitions? It sounds like you no longer have the FAT32 as mmcblk0p1? Make sure the first partition is the FAT32, the second is EXT, and the third your swap.
Hi
Could be my card, it's an ebay card so, but works fine with music...
I use an guide fore formating my card, and I make the fat32 first, than ext and so the swap.
Now I tried to make an partition with ubuntu, and without the swap, but dosent seem to help, black screen after the adroid logo....
I guess I give up and its my card...
When i use the Print comand in parted i get the fat32 up first...
Print
number start end size type file system fla
gs
1 0 7500 7500mb primary fat32 lba
2 7500 8000 500mb primary ext2
3 8000 8032 32mb primary linux-swap(v1)
Use AmonRa's recovery? It will paritition the card for you the right way with whatever size partitions you specify.
Ok so my partition could be the problem?
ill try the AmonRa's recovery than, and if not I guess its not ment to be apps2sd on my phone...
Well, I wouldn't say that apps2sd is not ment for your phone since so many of us are using this hack (including myself) however this may be a tedious process of eliminating possible causes. I would not rule out the possibility of damaged SD card. It has happened before to many people. Re-format and re-partition your existing card first. Wipe everything off your phone, re-flash the rom of your choice (following the instructions) and see if it works. If it doesn't work - then I would look into getting a different SD card. I just received a tweet that compUSA has class 6 8GbB card with adapter for $30. I also saw something in "Dream accessories" forum in the "Promotions" thread, I believe 8GB card for $15 from Amazon. Cards are a lot cheaper then new phone, you should try that out. Good luck.
Ok.
I've now installed the AmonRa's recovery 1.5.2
Partition the card with AmonRa's recovery
Wiped data/factory
Shud I wipe dalvik-cache, battry status, and rotate settings also?
Wipe dalvik-cache, others should not matter for what you're trying to accomplish.
Ok thx.
I'll try that, if it doesnt work now, I'll buy an new sd card
So AmonRa's recovery didnt help, so I guess it's my sd card than.
Will buy an new one and test with that.
So fore now on it's low on space
Maby this time I will remember to take an backup when I have y phone the way I like, getting tierd of setting up my phone all the time
Hey
One quick question or maybe a problem?
Okay so I partitioned my 4GB SD card and I did the Swap setting wrong instead of going to 32MB I did 64MB which now I know it was a bad thing to do because I tried formating the SD with a phone and it still doesnt work and I can use my G1 because the Hero gets stuck so does anyone knoew how to make it mount to the g1 console or format it from the console or anything??? because my sd doesnt work?
Did you try reformatting through the recovery or just in android?
Can you mount your fat32 partition on your pc?
If you're using Amon Ra's recovery, try booting into it (make sure you backup all your files, do a nandroid etc), then try to repartition it.
So I have had my memory card get corrupted twice here recently, probably within two weeks. It caused me to have to reformat my SD card entirely. I was wondering if I format the SD card to be Ext3 completely, would I still be able to save everything on it as usual? I know I won't be able to use it on a windows machine, but I don't really care about that. I am just wondering if the phone needs it to be formatted to Fat32. I don't use A2SD, compcache, swap, or anything else. Just storage.
It might work if u make changes in init.rc to specify the file system type when it mounts it on boot up...

Hmm, well I may have to give that a try. Does the int.rc already specify the existing file system (just so I can find it easier, or will I have to create something new)?
I had a spare micro SD card laying around and formatted it to Ext3. None of the apps I had recognized it.
Well i partitioned my sd card but then it wouldn't upgrade to Ext3 and it said "Error : Run 'fs ext3 via adb!" Does anyone know how i can get around that?? or what i am doing wrong?? and also what should i set the swap size at and the ext2 size at??

I was working with Flipz & Toast on FreshToast 2.1beta. Today, I received my new Class 6 Transcend microSD... 16gb!!
And I'm having the same issue. I'm reading http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=543985
As I look thru adb, it says:
Mem: 195632
Swap: 0
when I try to upgrade the ext partition, I get the same error as you.
BTW, I'm using Toast's Goodspeed Recovery for formatting...
and running fs ext3 in the adb shell gives me a fs: not found.
I'm guessing I'm missing permissions or something...
well i took everything off my sd card but the recovery image and tried it again and it work fine but now my phone seems more laggy, shouldnt it be less of a lag??
and also it tells me i only have 68mb on my phone storage shouldnt it say 512mb like i set it for??
phone storage is the internal memory, not your sdcard
well when i download an app the internal storage goes down shouldnt the sd storage go down??
