I've added Ottawa (that's the capital of Canada ) to the World Clock but the time it displays is 2 hours early .. it appears to be in the wrong timezone !

This is interesting. In looking at the fix, I could see that the timezone was changed from 360 to 300. I expect that 300 refers to 300 minutes (5 hours) less than GMT. My checks show that Ottowa's standard time is -5 GMT but it is currently on Daylight Savings time from March 8th, making the current time -4 GMT. How is this reflected in the manilla file?
I too have found that my city Port of Spain in Trinidad shows the incorrect time but from my review of the database, the Timezone shows 240, which is -4 GMT, which is correct, yet the time shown is wrong. Port of Spain does not use Daylight Savings time so what is needed to correct it.

There are also a link in the database point to windows mobile time-zone setting, that is called MSID. This is also affected the time zone showing in the manila.
Basically, the MS database was correct, but the Manila some how is wrong, as you notice, the interesting part is the "minutes" that "add/minus" in the database was not always same as the "GMT +/-". What we can do is make it run for the meantime until HTC fix it.

I changed Port of Spain's MSID from 50 to 55 and I got the correct time. I copied the MSID from Bridgetown, Barbados which carries the same time and which was correct. If this is correct, perhaps you can update your database to reflect this change.

One of the customization cab files should have set it to display 12 hour time, but something must have changed it.
You can set it to your desired format in the "Regional Settings" section of the system settings.
Thanks

I know just enough to be dangerous at times. ;-)
I know this post is 6 months behind the reply from summiter, but I've just encountered the same change to my clock on my 8125 to military time. Over this past couple of weeks (10/16/06), I upgraded to ROM version 2.26.10.2 WWE. Everything was fine for a while, then all of a sudden this afternoon, 12-hour time changed over to 24-hour (military) time. My clock and calendar are now in military time and I just don't think that way and need it back.
I haven't added any software recently, so I have no earthly idea what caused this to change. I went to Regional Settings and have the settings on "H:mm:ss", which I assumed was the 12-hour setting. But te sample shows military time for both "H:mm:ss" and "HH.mm.ss".
Please help as I liked this ROM version until this occurred. I'd rather not have to go to another ROM just yet.
Thanks,
Keith

Yes it is exactly the same for me. The entire screen is disabled.

the xml file is a ROM file so if you are trying to overwrite the original file you have to use something like Resco Explorer or it won;t overwite the ROM just using the native file explorer - try that. I have weather working nicely for Hurricane , WV --- and you can rest assured that wasn't on the original list (but worked well after I modified the xml file and installed the 6tab modified plugin)
My weather is wrong but I'm sure I know why. I'm in Springfield Missouri and its pulling data for Springfield Illinois. Its strange that it isn't able to pull up a bigger city list that includes states. Weather Panel is an old and now free app that has no trouble finding my little [email protected] town.

That's because WeatherPanel is an 'active' application, meaning you put in a Zip code and it goes and finds the data. The HTCWeather is not active meaning it only knows about the cities in the .XML file loaded to your device. Over on the Wizard forum there are several discussions on the subject. My Wizard for example only has the cities I care about the entire file is only 5K, vs the stock 300K one.
Hope that helps..

Wow small world. I too and in Springfield MO.
The weather is actually very easy to fix, all you need is a registry editor.
First choose "Springfield, US" from the city list. Now open up \\HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Weather\Settings
Change the value of "LocationCode". It will be NAM|US|IL|SPRINGFIELD.
Change it to NAM|US|MO|SPRINGFIELD. That simple. Change IL to MO and redownload your weather data.
I also changed the "Location" value from "Springfield, US" to Springfield, MO just because i liked it better. hehe.

And How do I change from Celsius to Fahrenheit ?
• Multiply the Celsius temperature by 9
• Divide the answer by 5
• Add 32 to the answer.

I don't remember the syntax. I had to do the same thing. There is a way to list areas by zipcode in the XML file.
You can change your city by adding a program called Home Screen Customizer. It is free and works really well. But let me tell you. You are going to have further problems when you do that. I spent a week going around and around with P1tater, the only one here who Understands how to fix the weather "server" problem you will soon encounter. When you get the "unable to download content...." message, it is time to change your .dll file. Find the replacement .dll file here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1877192&postcount=2153
I never could figure out how to create it myself. This is where you go to supposedly figure it out:
http://weather.not2advanced.com/files/
Who developes the weather program for the HTC tytn ii and why cant we contact them and have them add our city for a small fee?
I've been using Weather Watcher by Singers Creations for year on my PC, and remembering that their software is free, I just stopped by to see if there is a mobile version -- there are two! One for PDA and one for smartphone.
http://www.singerscreations.com/AboutWeatherWatcherMobile.asp
FWIW, I've installed "Weather Watcher Mobile Pocket PC v1.0.8" for my HTC Tilt and it works well. I would prefer a smaller footprint, though.
All the info is in the many existing threads on this topic.
Best to look at those before adding another thread.. helps to keep all the Q&A's on a topic in the one place, which in turn makes it easier for people to find the answer to their questions...
My apologies. There's so much here way above my head that this is where I found myself after my head stopped spinning. Sorry again, folks. Will do better.

Theres a reason for it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_time said:
In Australia, Canada and the United States, the term military time is a synonym for the 24-hour clock notation, which counts the hours of the day from 00 to 23.[1] In these regions, the time of day is customarily given almost exclusively using the 12-hour clock notation, which counts the hours of the day as 12, 1, ..., 11 with suffixes AM and PM distinguishing the two diurnal repetitions of this sequence. The 24-hour clock is commonly known there only in a few specialist areas (military, astronomy, computing, logistics, emergency services, hospitals), where the ambiguities of the 12-hour notation are deemed too inconvenient, cumbersome, or outright dangerous, with the military's use being historically the first and most famous example. The term "military time" has no particular meaning in most other regions of the world, where the 24-hour clock has long become a common element of every-day civilian life.

We'd still have to use time zones... Even if we went to UTC time. As someone who regularly uses it, I think it would be less confusing to use UTC time. You should probably know that though.
Just as a side note, the US Railroads were the ones who invented and introduced Time Zones. Before this, there were a dizzying amount of time zones used in the US, even adjacent cities would use different times, this caused several problems of course and made the safe running of trains much harder. For some reason it seems like the basis of timezones were first introducted in UK... (not US...)
Source : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_zone#History
And IMHO, I prefer the 24hr format (especially since every time I need to wonder what midnight is : am or pm in the 12hrs format)
I am in the US, but have always referred to it as 24 hour time... and it's what I use. I work in the Broadcast industry, and to complicate things, have to deal with about 6 different timezones.
My favorite example, when Indiana was divided between two timezones, we had a station broadcasting from one timezone into the other. Some things had to run based on Eastern Time, and others, Central Time, and still others came in with Pacific Time notations....
I think it might take a learning curve, but we should stop using timezones, or at least do away with 'Daylight Saving Time'.
Stepping off of soapbox now
Jeremie
UK here, and from some limited travelling in Europe 'military time' is more often used than normal time. BBC News (if it sets any standards ) uses 24 hour clocks. I don't know why, I'm just much more comfortable with a 24 hour clock, although I don't ever say '18 hundred hours' I would say 6 o clock, just the way it's written is different...
To each their own though maybe it's because I'm from the metric generation, metres instead of feet, celsius instead of fahrenheit (I still don't know what my mum means when she says it was 109, that's hotter than boiling water in my book) and such.
Hi, not sure if anyone having similar problems or not.
Problem 1: I live in Sydney, I've set the time to GMT+10 Sydney, after a while, the phone automatically change the time setting to GMT+10 Vladivostok. Any idea how to fix this minor problem?
Problem 2: When I put my phone to stand-by mode (eg. after a while the phone's screen is off or phone automatically lock up), when some one send the sms to my phone, the phone does not play the warning sound for incoming message, until I turn on screen than the phone play the incoming sms sound.
Problem 3: Weather--- I've download the update for weather for the whole week. For example, on Monday night I've downloaded the weather, the screen showing the weather at night (for Monday), than On tuesday morning, the weather screen does not update to Tuesday's weather, it just stay for monday night's weather screen. Does Dimond automatic update the weather for each day base from the data which already downlaoded?
Thanks for you help!
ohh guys... how come no one can answer my problems??
1. happened to me also. i don't care if it is jerusalem+ or beirut+2. do you really care? for a possible solution see also post # 11.
2. somewhere in the forum there is a tweak (or a registry edit?) for this. i think there are ROMs with this bug solved.
3. you can choose to have the weather update manually or automatically.
weather/menu/settings/download weather automatically (thick for auto).
there not such thing like downloading the weather Monday for the whole week...the weather is changing (like when they said tomorrow-rain and you walk all next day feeling ridiculous with yr umbrella and the sun is shining ).
if it is important for you live it on manual and each time you sync with yr pc download the weather. is cheap and fast and daily.

If you ask me, it's a bit stupid that it changes the time zone constantly when you select to sync the time. By the looks of it, it always changes the time zone to the last item in that zone (Ulaanbaatar is the last item in +8).

Problem 1: I live in Sydney, I've set the time to GMT+10 Sydney, after a while, the phone automatically change the time setting to GMT+10 Vladivostok. Any idea how to fix this minor problem?

Only way I have found to fix this is to go the Phone Settings area, Then Time Zones and turn off "Automatic change time zone and clock" . I had this same issue with my TyTnII and now my Diamond. My guess is the Telco Networks transmit the time as raw UTC along with an offset, but without a location stamp. Something like "it is currently 0230UTC and this location is GMT+10". It is then up to the WM6.x to go into its list of timezomes and I bet it just grabs the first in its list that is +10, so Vladivostok. Buggers up summertime offsets too.
Good news is if you leave this turned off the time will still get updated when you activsync by way of HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Clock\NetworkTimeSync.
Just that it wont automtically change when you move time zones for example.
I've set mine to off, I'll report back in a few days, sounds like it will be fine looking at previous post by Logger.

1. happened to me also. i don't care if it is jerusalem+ or beirut+2. do you really care? for a possible solution see also post # 11.
2. somewhere in the forum there is a tweak (or a registry edit?) for this. i think there are ROMs with this bug solved.
3. you can choose to have the weather update manually or automatically.
weather/menu/settings/download weather automatically (thick for auto).
there not such thing like downloading the weather Monday for the whole week...the weather is changing (like when they said tomorrow-rain and you walk all next day feeling ridiculous with yr umbrella and the sun is shining ).
if it is important for you live it on manual and each time you sync with yr pc download the weather. is cheap and fast and daily.

what I mean was you know when you hook up to the net and downloaded the update for the weather, the phone will update for the whole week's data. As soon as the update is done, the phone will show you the weather of the same day (the date you updated e.g. Monday), but the following day (Tuesday), the weather still showing Monday's weather and doesn't change the date Tuesday, but I know the weather for tueday was also downloaded (yeah I know the weather maybe is not up-to-date since was downloaded on Monday).
