Hi everyone,
I was wondering... is it possible to change the hardware buttons permanently? I mean, if I do a soft reset, the button are mapped back to their original settings. Do I have to modify the registry and how?
I would prefer a solution that does not require software if possible.
Thx !!
hahahaha, it's all software. Even the OS!
Maybe I wasn't clear...
I mean "I prefer a solution that does not require additional software". Is there a setting in the OS (maybe a registry hack) to change the buttons mapping?
hi atzakas,
after softreset buttons should not be mapped back, they should be as you mapped them in Settings.
They are mapped back if you do hard-reset, but that is understandible, you can't hack it.
you can also check this app with 40 additional commands for hardware buttons:
http://handster.com/product.php?id=6
there you can map to buttons things like: switch programs (Alt-Tab), backlight loop, new task, new appointment, etc
Regards,
Victor
Thanks for the reply, but I wouldn't have asked if it was so simple.
I change the button settings, then do a soft reset and the settings are back to the original settings.
I guess I'll have to live with that
i experienced the same problem with an O2 XDA IIi, however, this is cured misteriously recently
Hi there,
I´m trying to hide the soft buttons bar. I already tried pmc today shrink and softbar remover, both found searching the forums.
Problem is, I still want to display the tray (in the place of the soft button bar - the goal is to increase today space without loosing the tray).
With pmc today shrink, the soft buttons bar is gone, but also the tray.
With softbar remover, the softbar is gone, but the tray remains in the same place (so today screen space is not bigger).
Does any1 have any idea about doing this ?
Thanks in advance.

Click to collapse
well with pmc the buttons are still usable. you just have to hit the actual soft key buttons not the touch screen.
my 2centz.
Well... yes, I know
Thats exactly what I want: I want to get rid of the softbar, but be able to still use it by pressing the soft buttons (hence, why I think there is no need to have it on screen).
What I want is to hide the softbar, and still be able to see the system tray at the bottom of the screen...
The problem is that with both solutions I have found, I can´t do that: with the first, the softbar is gone but the tray remains at the same place, so I can´t make use of the extra pixels. And with the second, both the softbar and the tray are gone.
Thanks for trying to help
On WM6.0 I had very rarely problems with VJ Toggle Today II, it basically just hides the soft menu and everything else moves down, it looks great and the soft keys still work, PHM Task Launch works perfect, programs show up in the tray at the very bottom of the screen, the Today screen items can take up the extra space that has been made above it, etc..
The executable is: vjtoggletodayiialpha.exe and you just put it in Startup. I have to tweak the registry to get it just perfect, the following post documents it, has a link to it, etc..

It says WM5 only but it works fine for me on WM6.0 and WM6.1 Caveat with WM6.1; after reboot I have to slide the phone once for the task tray to show up at all. It's just empty down at the bottom otherwise. It happened every so often with WM6.0, but 100% of the time with WM6.1. But it's a fairly minor annoyance. I might see if there's some way to automate this with MortScript or something and put it at the end of the startup list.
Amazing!!
Reinstalled pmc todayshrink and as you mentioned, opening the keyboard made the tray reappear.
Thanks!! Now my today screen is looking the way I want.
You may also want to try dcinobar. It is a very small program that lowers the softkey bar but still allows the system tray to be seen.

D/L link in post #12.
EDIT: But you will have to slide the phone open and close it to make the tray go to the bottom as well...
I'd like to make my TyTN II look a little bit like the new blackberry storm. I like the transparent style buttons on it.
Also, I would like to know how I can get (big) buttons on the main page. I really don't like to constantly take out the stylus and vbrows through many levels of menus before I can send a text message...
Another question: I can get the iphone dial pad, which has been around for a while now. I liek it, but half the buttons doesn't do anything. How can I assign an action to each of the buttons?
Here is a link that has a large start/title bar cab file http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=344544&highlight=large+start+menu+title
Hope this helps

Also, I forgot to mention this but you should use the search because I found those cabs within a few results of the search engine

Quite randomly, the start, OK, and application shortcut buttons on my Orange tytn ii have stopped working properly.
In ScummVM, I can use them as normal, they're not DEAD, but they don't do what they should. The start button doesn't open the start menu, the ok button does nothing, and the application shortcuts seem to think they're the softkeys...
Yet the softkeys do as well.
I suspect scummvm of having something to do with it, it only started after I remapped a key I was using in that.
So, does anyone know of this problem?
If not, do you think it's likely that ScummVM is changing registry entries or something to prevent windows from intercepting the keys then changing them back on exit, and not done it for some reason?
It's got to be as easy as changing some registry keys, I just don't know which ones and what to.
Thanks in advance
Hmm, after re-setting all the buttons in the "Buttons" control panel they're working again. I'll just put this down to general windows annoyances.
Ive noticed an incredably annoying problem on my latest 6.1 ROM. When I am typing on the hard keyboard my sentanceso ftenc omeo utl iket his! Due to a delay in a space being inserted after hitting the space bar. I think I have read this is a common problem on some ROMs. Is there a solution? I have disabled the word suggestion and auto correction features.
Lastly, how do you revert to standard sized menus? My latest ROM shows soft button menus full screen and I really dont like this.
I hope someone out there knows of some cabs that may help.
Thanks guys.
For the keyboard speed up solution, it's one of the stickies at the top of the Kaiser Software forum, here. As for the large menus, you must get some kind of registry editor, and change "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GWE\Menu\CUIHandler"
to DWORD "0", this worked perfectly on my old ROM.

Thanks Dave1. Much appreciated mate.
