Hi,
I'm often switching between english, french, german. The 3 languages have a different keyboard layout. When you switch language in most keyboards such as swype, htc me, etc so that the language correction works properly, the keymap also changes. its impossible to use, when the keymap change all the time, i always get the keys wrong by reflex.
so i would like a keyboard that does auto correction, or even swype-like, but keeps the same layout (of my choice) when changing language.
secondarily, i would like the keyboard to have arrow keys (for the terminal mainly)
i can't find such a gem. is there any?
I think touchpal is pretty good for multiple languages, if you can find the language packs. You can get the chinese touchpal from the market, but then install any Western language pack touchpal apks. I've only got English on mine, but that works great. Only one click on the keyboard to get to arrow keys, home, end page up/down etc. Give it a try.
couldnt find language packs for the latest version =/
used it a bit in english and its not bad, although keys are a bit small and sometimes it lags a bit. only using qwerty and only have english+chinese but the mixed language input seems to work. maybe in future versions with language pack it could be neat (i saw they announced a version 5.0 with more packs soon)
i use the droid x multitouch atm its very fast, but it doesnt solve any of my problems of course
I've been hunting this issue on XDA but I've not found a solution, it's the eternal issue of keyboard switcher. I speak several languages, like a lot of people here. It is a royal pain to manually switch from english to french to spanish and back and forth. everytime i want to write in one language i have to change the entire locale.
So far, I found this:
-apowersms (if you go to setting, there is a language filter, which is very interesting because you can choose which language keyboard you need) (and the keyboard layout isn't so bad looking)
- softkeyboard (for the keyboard button, when you press it long, you can directly change to the language you want)
I'm trying to find, how to create a custom shortcut maybe to switch between the languages that I speak. something like this, so that I can switch languages for my gingerbread keyboard.
Does anyone out there have a better solution for my problem. let me know.
thanks
Using stock keyboard, go to the keyboard settings and search for something like "languages". Select the languages you want to use. Now swipe your finger on the space key to switch between the selected languages

The Beta worked for about 14 days, and then the phone started doing some random hangs. and after not being able to type anything in a SMS i changed the keyboard back, and my phone is now normal.
Cool keyboard, but might cause problems....
when the beta stops working you might want to try Perfect Keyboard, and Smart keyboard, they have similar options, except importing SMS into dictionary.
Thanks for it
I will try and see

Go Keyboard problems
1. I use the speech recognition a lot. When I set the Voice Key to 'On main keyboard' I loose the Comma key.
Is there any way I can get both the voice key and the comma key on the main screen?
2. When I use the voice recognition (the Voice Recognition is great, 90% or better) but if I try to edit the phrase it shows because a letter is incorrect. I put the cursor to the right of the letter and hit backspace or space and it pastes the whole phrase in again in the middle of the phrase I am trying to edit. Any idea how to avoid this?
I really like Go Keyboard, but these 2 things are driving me nuts.
Regards,
Mark
I cant seem to be getting the T9 on the messaging. As soon as i click on the msg body , the t9 button just disaapears.. it appears on when I am adding a contact name... any clue on how to fix this ?
How does it compare to Swype?
Hi,
I've just connected a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo to my Nexus 7, it works great apart from the lack of a keyboard layout for English (UK). the only English layouts are US and US Dvorak style. Does anyone know of a way to get the keyboard to use a UK layout? The built-in Android keyboard has one and works fine.
Paul.
I'm going to second this question. The US layout is usable but when you have to use the " key to get an @ it starts to get annoying.
Workaround that works!
I had the same problem, having just bought a UK layout bluetooth keyboard from Amazon.
There is a workaround - "External Keyboard Helper Pro" in Google Play. It costs a couple of quid.
You can try out "External Keyboard Helper Demo" first, to show that it works - this is free to try out.
A word of warning - it took me a while to get this to work - it was quite fiddly, but it DOES eventually work!
A hint:
In Language & Input, these are the settings that work for me:
Default: External Keyboard Helper Pro
SELECTED: Android Keyboard: English (UK)
SELECTED: External Keyboard Helper Pro
Under choose input method, select:
Hardware Physical Keyboard OFF
English (UK) Android keyboard - NOT SELECTED
External Keyboard Helper Pro - SELECTED
By SELECTED I mean ticked in the above.
I found that choosing the English (Dvorak) layout in External Keyboard Helper Pro and having "Sound on keypress" on helped my work out when the app was intercepting the bluetooth keyboard input and remapping correctly. Once that you know it is working, switch off the sound and select "English (GB)" as the layout in External Keyboard Helper Pro.
I tried this solution and it works (though I have no idea why).
The problem is that you seem to have to go through the suggested routine every time you connect the keyboard.
Has anyone found a way of setting it up so that it automatically sets it self up with the English layout when you connect the keyboard and then reverts to the on-screen keyboard when you disconnect?
My android auto keyboard doesn't show the language change button and I have only English qwerty. My phone is Asus Rog Phone 3, I'm using the native keyboard. Even though my phone default language is in english I have my local language set both in the keyboard settings and in the android language settings and still the change language button is missing.
