Hi, this is my first post but I have been following this forum frequently. I want to say thanks in advance for any advice.
I dropped my X1 (a couple of times) and there is a lot of aesthetic damage. So, I was wondering a few things:
1. Can I purchase replacement parts; just the parts that are damaged?
2. If I can purchase replacement parts, can I purchase black parts? I currently have the silver X1 that I purchased from Best Buy and I wanted the black version. I figured if I am going to replace parts, I might be able to replace them with a black "body kit" maybe?
3. Is there a tutorial on this website (I've tried searching but I couldn't find anything) of how to replace the parts?
Once again, I want to say that I tried searching but I couldn't find anything (I hope I don't get yelled at for asking such a dumb question as my first post) and thanks.

Welcome to the posting brotherhood .
It really depends how good you are with electronics. If you fell confident enough to do the repairs yourself, then by all means, try it. Otherwise, purchase the parts and go to o a professional repair shop.

Thanks for the help, the videos definitely makes things easier. I'll post pics as soon as I begin to show the damage and then I'll take pics throughout the repair so I can post them.

I was carrying a heavy box today against my body, I must have jammed a corner into my tilt, because afterwards the screen is all white with a black spot. I am pretty sure it is a cracked LCD.
1. Anyone have any advice on getting service through ATT? I heard they had a 30 day no questions asked policy. It is obviously a cracked screen, pretty sure they wouldn't deal with that.
2. It was paid for on a visa, do they have something I can take advantage of?
3. Where is a good/cheap place to buy the replacement parts? I am not too worried about digging in and fixing it myself.
4. What are my options for paying someone to fix it? HTC, ATT, or otherwise?
I really appreciate your help, I am terribly aggravated with myself for break it. Just trying to minimized the damage right now.

1. They will charge you for breaking it.
2. No, you can only dispute a charge if they didn't hold up their end of the bargain, you broke the phone, its your problem now.
3. I dont know
4. I believe they will charge a lot, but still less than a whole new phone. See how much it costs and then also see how much you can get on eBay for your broken one and how much a new one will cost you.
Good luck, I had the same luck as well, wasnt even a week of having my tilt and it fell in a bunch of clothes and had a small crack the slowly did the same results of your screen, I had to go through hoops to get a replacement from AT&T, not my most favorite people to say the least.. :-\ Just got my replacement yesterday as the phone died Monday.

Ya, they will charge you with either buying a refurb phone, let you get a junky replacement phone if you cant afford it, or 3, raise hell with 611, and in the local AT&T athorized store you bought it from.
I've seen a few replacement screens on ebay if you have the guts to take your phone apart you could try one of those.

regarding 2, I heard that visa offers some sort of protection plan for items purchased with it. I wasn't planning on back charging it.
I was unable to find any screens on ebay, but I'll keep looking. I found a replacement service for $170.

That doesn't look like too bad of an option. I need to read about what is involved to install it. I think i have seen some posts of people have issues even after replacing the screen (incompatability?).
Also, that is in Hong Kong, yuck. Perhaps I can find one that is in the US and includes the tools required.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction though.
I just purchased this screen:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...em=270204431330&_trksid=p3984.cTODAY.m238.lVI
Does anybody forsee any issues replacing it? I found directions online.
I actually changed my mind about repairing the screen myself after reading the directions. It seems risky that I'd break it myself.
1. Do you recommend I get a 3rd party to repair it? Pocket pc techs is an option ($170)
2. I called HTC today, they said screen replacement starts at $193. I am guessing that it is worth the extra $20 to have it done by HTC, perhaps it won't void the (rest) of the warranty?
-Dan
It costs 142 US dollars for screen replacement in India's service center.
plus servicing charges of 20 US dollars.
If I sell this tytn II as a used piece (after replacing the screen), it will fetch me 300 US dollars.
Why the hell is this screen so expensive.
when will HTC stop looting WM lovers.
there are other screens ive seen cheaper. but sorry i forgot the website =/. go look around google or something.
You'll find them for about $80 on ebay. LCD's have always been expensive, nothing new...
you tried ebay mate?
however, if you do get a screen, do not try and install it yourself, let someone experienced do it as HTC's are difficult to take apart and put together, trust me, i learnt the hide way trying to install a screen on my old Artemis....

Bah, its not that hard!! Just follow the instructions of Mike Channons page, hes got all the service manuals. I've had devices completely to pieces and re-assembled them using those instructions. Its all good as long as you follow them exactly (and have a really tiny torx). You've gotta learn somewhere!
haha i would still have a professional do mine
I need to replace a customer's TYTN II LCD. Another phone shop in my city (Brisbane, Australia) says they can sell me a screen, but they need to know the serial number of the broken screen because apparently, there were 20 different LCDs used in the TYTN range and I have to install a new LCD with the same type of serial number.
Questions:
1. is this correct?
2. I was very close to buying from blackberry8100parts.com but it looks like they only sell within the US. Anyone got them to sell internationally?
I plan on buying the screen from ebay, unless someone can convince me otherwise.
I wouldn't believe 20 different screens, but for many HTC phones (Blueangel, Wizard,..) there were each time 2 different possible screens indeed, not compatible of course. Don't know if it's also the case for the Kaiser.
So one of my friends at work had an att tilt. However his son dropped it out of his pants pocket and the screen popped off. Screen is still in one piece however completly seperated from the tilt mechanism and the ribbon cable is missing. So I told him instead of throwing it away (cause att does not offer insurance) to give it to me and I'd see what I can do (Gonna unlock it and use it as an upgrade for my wing ).
I've read some of the hardware manuals and can already see I'll need parts to fix it. But I have no ideas what ones. Or if it's even worth it to fix. I mean its basically a free tilt minus any repair costs. Any help?

Check thi site, there is a manual how to dismantle kaiser. Could be helpful:
http://michael-channon.spaces.live....smantling+%2f+Disassembling+Guides+HTC%2fETEN
Thank you, however thats actually the repair manual I looked at. However while looking for parts I have yet to find the ribbon cable that connects to the display.
This is basically what I have except the ribbon cable is missing. And alot of steps missing to get it this way.

Yeah, kid was playing basketball and fell out of his pocket. I guess the kid has broke 4 phones this month... curve, tilt, 2 pantec duos. Told my friend to get him a $20 go-phone now lol. And use the savings to get me a tilt
I dont know what kind of damage besides the physical the drop may have caused. Phone was not on at the time so that may have helped it (I hope)

I hope u repair it. Wish u luck.
Without actually looking at it, its hard to say what exactly you need. But you for sure need a new flex cable. Unfortunately that is the hardest part to find. At least here in the US. I usually buy broken phones from people who don't want to pay for a repair. Then I use the parts from them. You can get a new housing easily enough if you need it but the flex cable will be your biggest hurdle.
I suggest trying to find one broken on ebay and using the 2 you have to make one working phone. Even a broken Tilt can run for $200 on ebay though.
Anyone notice that case has already been replaced at some stage as it has a camera hole (not standard for Tilts) a keyboard without the white part and no logo. Perhaps the replacement was weaker than the original one. If the O/P searches the forum here for LCD Screen replacements there's loads of links to different companies supplying parts for Kaiser variants. I have no experience using any of them though so cant suggest which ones are best.
@Planet Neo
Yeah I was thinking that but was hoping it wouldn't come to that. Would suck to spend $200 for parts just to find the motherboard is broke or something to that effect. Was hoping someone knew of a place to buy a new cable or had one to sell. Also was hoping someone with some experience could let me know if they think I'd need a new tilt assembly.
@Flying Kiwi
Lol, I used a picture from kaiser disassembly guide to show what i was referring to. It has the standard tilt case. I'll be taking pictures of what I have as soon as I have the phone in my possession.
Okay I assume that its going to be very hard to get the ribbon and you're going to need housing. I believe that it will be the same as making a new tilt, because the screen is as good as dead without the ribbon so all you could do is get new housing and a new screen and it should rack up about $150-200. Which in my opinion is much easier and faster and better than frustrating on getting a ribbon.
Just my 2 cents.

You need a TYTN II flex. There are many other suppliers and if you go direct they may be a bit cheaper. google is your friend....
To check the board - connect to a windoze computer with a mini USB cable and power up or press the soft reset button to boot it - it should ident and install then try to sync. It should boot fine even with no LCD if it's OK assuming the battery still holds some charge.
A full housing will run you about $60. Some sellers have just front panels for about $40 though I'm unsure if these have the pivot.

Man, MS you really need to get off my nuts. It's getting creepy. I said in my post hard to find at least in the US. And the link you gave was for a seller in China. One more word of advice for the OP, Make sure this part actually works for the AT&T Tilt variant. I had a customer buy a Flex cable for the HTC Herald thinking it would work for the T-Mobile Wing but due to the modified button layout of the Wing it did not fit correctly. Much like this person HERE experienced.

These things are made in Shenzhen so where you think the parts come from?
Stop talking &*%(* and I'll stop correcting your posts Instead of saying something is a fact say it's your opinion. It's not a 'rare' part - and they ship WORLDWIDE. It's not as if he'll get one from a local mom and pop store - it's gonna be mail order wherever you get it from and looking at the seller's feedback is a good judge - all my parts come from China - so why pay a middleman such as yourself extra $ just so it has a US stamp on the package?

Hi,
The XDA Diamond of my little brother has some cracks between the display and the touch-surface. (see attachement)
I sent the device O2, but they (their service-partner) said "no warranty" and want ~ 300€ for the repair.
I just looked into the service-manual, because I thought about repairing it by myself.
But I think it's to difficult for me.
Now I wonder if anybody know a cheap mobile-shop, who can repair my Diamond.
I live in Cologne. My Brother (and my family) near Hannover. (both in Germany)
But Online-Shops are also good.
Thank you!
the screen is on ebay - item 230285205211. They also offer repairs
search for the dismantle guide (sorry don't have it to hand)
i also got cracks on my screen just like your brother....
I decided to order one of the replacement screen from ebay that comes with the needed tools to do it myself. i payed about 25 dollars including shipping and should receive it anytime from now.... If you r willing to wait , i ll post feedback on how hard it is to do it yourself.
About dismantling the diamond u ll find easily links from google.
Good luck!
how do the cracks actually appear in the first place?
was it the result of something the manufacturer might classify as "abuse" or "accidental damage"?
Often I pick up my phone (HTC Victor) and think that it feels quite fragile compared to something like the N95... so i treat it accordingly - ie, with a little more care..
I already looked throu the disamble guide.
@Sebienbon
It would be great, if you would post feedback and maybe photos of the repair process (step-by-step) wich are not in the disamble guide.
Meanwhile I will do one more try with the service partner.
@bobbified
It just happened. I think my brother carried the device in his trouser pocket (jeans) when he was riding by bike. But imo such a expensive phone should be strong enough.
Also theere is no damage on the outside.
@hays
Thanks. But I am not sure if this is the right part.
My LCD still works. All pixels are fine.
But the "whatever" between the LCD and touch-surface is cracked.
Thanks everybody so far
i just got the kit this morning but the screw driver is wrong( probably because of a different country , i live in denmark and the screen comes from asia... so i ll go buy a tiny screw driver that i miss and then give it a go
Hey,
I´ve got the same problem. But my Screen is more broken
Although it works.
I read the Service Manual too but im not sure if it works with this part:
http://cnn.cn/shop/touch-diamond-digitizer-p-2128.html
Because on the last Picture in the Manuel you see only the front part of the phone and nothing about the part linked above.
So I w`ont open it before I`m not sure whats exactly to do.
Also I asked some firms do make me an offer for repairing the mobile phone.
The best offer is 129,00 € or 169,00 € if the dismantling create scratches on the Display under the touch screen because they are glued.
Very expensive!
Now I´m waiting for your experiences too.

Hey guys!
AFAIK the cracks that appear are in the glass of the touch-screen-unit.
so i try to figure out how to replace this part only.
Is it glued to the LCD?
Which glue sould be used to fix it again?
Or does it even come with the screen?
I'd like to post a guide here if it works, so please help me answering this last question!
Also, replacing only the touchscreen would lower the repair cost to a third...
Thanks!
Still no update?? on the steps to remove digitizer?

Last night my phone got damaged in an accident. The LCD is broken i think. but the digitizer is alright. I have run out of warranty so just wanted to know how much does the HTC service center charge for the repairing.
I am living in INDIA, Pune.
Also is there any way I can do it myself?
ebay tytn ii lcd... you should be able to find a couple... make sure you get a trox screw driver with it... its really simple to replace
HTC repair services are hard to come by, but there are some online services around $150 or so. you could find a screen on ebay for cheaper, but you will also need a T5, T6, and T7 torx screw drivers as well as tools to break the seam, and flat head and philips screw drivers, along with directions and about 3.5 hours of your time if you want to fix it yourself.

Ive taken apart my hermes about 50 times in total. It doesnt look like the kaiser is much harder. Ive had no need to as of yet. It might look a tad intimidating at first, but you should be fine. Just take careful to note what came from where as you disassemble it. Mikes guide is pretty in-depth do I would print it out and have a hard copy near you as you make the attempt

It took me 35 mins while watching tv and checking emails.
so it may not that long...
It was much easier than I thought. However use the 'only four screw removal method' - no need to take two parts apart as mentioned in some of the instructions you will find here.
I was able to take out four screws, pry apart the two pieces (had to order the special pry tool) and just push up the LCD screen, remove the connecting cable and take it out by sliding it out.
