Can someone please help a n00b? I traded my G1 phone today to someone for their iphone. I popped my AT&T sim card in the iphone, works great. They put their AT&T sim card in the G1 (which I unlocked a day ago, and it was fine) but it prompted them to enter in their gmail user/pass. It says it cannot log in because they are not connected to a network. I was thinking that since I reset the phone back to factory settings that it re-locked it. Possible or no?
Thanks!
they need to read the forums on how to activate a G1 without a data plan. or you do and tell them. I highly recommend the search function.

Got a new problem with my G1, basicaly I used my phone placed it in my pocket went out then when I next checked my phone I had no signal, I didn't take too much notice of it. When I got home and also there I had no signal, did the obvious rebooting, no joy. Then I did a wipe restarted the phone, still no signal now this is the strange part I had 3g because my phone let me sign in also started syncing my phone contact. I can browse on the net also download from the market but when i dial a number I get the message Not registered on network. So when I went to settings/call settings/network operators/available networks clicked on t-mobile it says Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network. Then just for fun try it with the other network operators same message. Also my sdcard was reformated.
Then I downgraded to rc7 (dreaming.nbh) rebooted no call signal but can browse and use market so I've updated to android 1.5 ota still no joy any ideas I planing to take to a t-mobile store let them check it also has anyone else had this problem before.

Sounds like a problem with your network, not with your phone. Either that, or your SIM card is fried. Assuming you're on T-Mobile from your post, you need to contact them for a new SIM card (you can do this inside any of their stores.)

I'd probably try wiping and re-flashing.

It really may be the SIM card or the SIM card reader in your phone (more likely the SIM card) it may work on another phone
try cleaning the contacts (the ones on the phone, not the ones IN the phone) ?
Call customer service and ask them to take you off whatever tower your phone is now on? suposebly pulling the battery will do it to.. Also get Anycut and make a short cut to phone info an toggle radio on off?
same problem occasionally

i'VE had the same issue, occasionally, I'm fairly certain its the sim card, not the phone. you can take the battery out, pull out the sim card, clean it up (don't use watter or anything that'll scratch it of course) and put it back in, make sure its securely in there, and boot up the phone, however, I've also noticed that sometimes in the middle of the night (like around 2AM to 330AM PST) sometimes cell coverage gives out for t-mobile where I'm at (friends confirmed), if you only just recently recieved 3g in yoru area, they are doing maintenance to get it up and running perfectly, so don't fret too much
EDIT:
Another thing I did was made sure to mess with the APN settings. dont' edit them, just try and change your APN from T-mobile to ATT, wait for it to say "not supported by sim" and then switch back over to T-mobile, that worked for me twice now
I'm having this same problem, only I can't surf the web or use the market. :\ Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Sorry to reply so late but the probem is now solved, this is what I did, I took out my sim card out the phone put it in an old phone to see if my sim had any issues but I forgot to take out the sim and put it back in my g1 went sleep.
Next morning put the sim in my g1 and all is fine got connection and all functions working, then waited a few hours no problems at all.
So I rerooted installed the danger spl and custom rom and the probem has just vanished, haven't got the slightest clue why that happened or what caused it.
The sim is new just under a month old lost my old 1 uk t-mobile charged me just under a £10 for a new 1 even if your on contract thiefs

its probably
A) the SIM got dislodged or
b) your G1 contacts were dirty.
All the above could cause the phone to not read the information on the SIM
Blowing the dust out/wiping the goldcontacts where the sim goes, and tightly inserting the sim might help, grandmegabosses
At first I opened thread a thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4468480) regarding not getting prompt for a sim unlock code using a gophone sim. I got around that by trying another (international) sim I had laying around, so was able to then use an unlock code to unlock my phone.
At this point, though, I am still stuck, as I am not able to connect to the AT&T network using a gophone sim.
sim works fine in a different phone
The ROMS I have used:
"The HTC ADP 1.5 CRC1 ROM" from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538456
cyanogenmod 4.0.4
To note, no APNs show under settings>wireless controls>Mobile Networks>Network>Access point names when I put non-tmobile sims in. When I add one, it still does not show up on the list. I have also tried clearing the data partition and tried setting up an APN during the setup procedure - no dice - the APN I just edited and saved does not show up.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
I can say I don't got any, other than it don't like your go phone, I am afraid that if you get it working at this point, it might go kaboom in spite.
Those g1s are some finiky creatures, beware they attack if startled
FIXED!!!!
I dont know if this is new for gophone or anything .... but apparently "new" gophone accounts are tied to the IMEI number that you first start your account with. At least this is what they told me when I called into the gophone service center.
Anyway... I worked with a tech who seemed quite knowledgeable. I convinced her to change to IMEI number linked to my account and change it to the G1's IMEI (to note - I honestly answered every question asked of me, such as the phone being an unlocked G1 I bought on ebay). At first it did not take - I waited an hour to see if maybe it was something that just needed to propagate thorough AT&T's network. The tech called me back. Because it did not work, she changed it back to the original phone on the account. I then asked her to please change it back to the G1's IMEI and please just leave it - I would wait a day to see if that helped any. She changed it back to the G1's IMEI and then I told her I would continue to play with the phone. Right after our call ended, my phone all of a sudden connected to AT&T's network.
I hope that this helps someone out. I know that I am happy as I can finally get playing around with this thing.
Thanks to those who offered advise.
Hey I'm having a very similar problem with my Dell Streak 5 and my GoPhone SIM card, I've even gone through the IMEI process with support from AT&T and I guess they successfully changed the IMEI linked to my SIM card to that of my new Dell Streak 5 but it's been 4+ hours and it's hasn't been "updated" in their system. Though the IMEI is now correctly linked to my Dell Streak 5 I still get no service and cannot connect to any network. I'm stumped!
If I buy a used G1 on ebay, can my neighbor just put her sim card in it without any web plan? She has a regular voice and text plan on T-Mobile with a cracker jack nokia flip phone and it's a hassle for her to send and receive texts. I figured she can get a phone with a keyboard and make her life easier.
Does she have to turn anything off so she doesn't get charged for web service?
without a data plan its gonna be hard to get past the activiation screen.
all she would need to do is
get a sim with someone who has data,
go through the setup creating her own gmail account
then when she;s at the home screen power off and swap sims again.
she wont have internet but the basics will work!
I have an iPhone on T-Mobile with data. So I can use my sim and put it in her G1 and where do I find the next steps in activating everything?
no sim = unpassable NO SIM screen.
sim without data = activation/learn how to use screen, cant continue after wanting to create gmail account
sim with data = get to step above but it will create the account and allow you through to the home screen.
so yes, as long as the sim has data, she should be ale to activate.
just remember to tell her that the phone is much more fun with data ;D
Thanks. Once I get her to see how much fun and easier to use a smart phone is I'm sure she'll eventually get a data plan.
actually I think the only way to get pass it is with a android data plan, Im not sure of the other data plans t-mobile has.
But I have had my G1 for a year w/o data.I got 5MB of free data when I bought it so you can try it even though your getting it used.I still had this problem when I was rooting it though because I had to log-in without the data.I did by going through the adb shell or something its kind of difficult.
Maybe someone else can give you more information
Ok I got it and I installed the sim card from my iPhone. I went through the activation process and I created a generic gmail account and have been using the G1 for the last 30 minutes. Have it also working through the wifi at home too.
Now I have to install her sim to see what happens.
Download APN droid so that her phone doesn't connect to data services. They will charge her per MB if she doesn't.
I got pretty good at modifying the iPhone and next week I have to learn the EVO. I hope what I learn with this G1 I can use with the EVO later!
I went into MARKET on the G1 and searched APN and all I got was APN Italy and APN Movilphone. Where do I get APN DROID and how do I install it?
The app's name is "APNdroid" by martin adamek. It's in the market.
I must be doing something wrong. I'm going into the market and searching for APNdroid and it keeps telling me
There are no matches in Android Market for the search : APNdroid
Do I have to be rooted or jailbroken or is it another Market not the one on the stock G1 ? Do I have to do it while connected on the cellphone or can I do it over wifi?
I'm not an idiot, I mean how hard is it to do a search, but this is making me nuts!!
OK Now I know what happened. I've been playing with the G1 since yesterday but for some reason today it decided to update its version. It asked if I wanted to update it and I said yes. Apparently the previous owner had never updated it. I now have a way prettier and more modern looking Market and it found the app quickly when I searched for it.
I installed the app and it's working great. I knew I couldn't be that dumb!
Thanks a lot for your patience.
Phone was factory reset after multiple issues and errors. I ditched the old SIM card in it and got a brand new one with a prepaid $3 for a day of use so I could activate the phone, but now I'm stuck on the Google activation screen, and if I make a new google account, it says the following:
"You don't have a network connection"
I checked the wi-fi setting and it says I do have one, and the SIM is registered with T-Mobile. I can't use any of the tricks I saw to bypass/skip the Google activation screen because there's no special ROM on the phone. Anyone able to help with this?
I rooted my T-Mobile Pixel 4 XL last night, went fine.
I run my phone dial SIM. I have a T-Mobile ESIM and a physical ATT SIM.
After rooting the phone defaulted to the ATT sim and installed a bunch of BS ATT apps and my T-Mobile ESIM would not activate so I removed my ATT SIM and did a factory reset.
NOW I have no working SIMS. The phone will not detect the ATT sim, doesn't even see its in the phone. I tried it in another phone and it works fine so I dropped another SIM in my P4XL, does not see it.
I've reset again, still nothing.
I've reset the network settings, still nothing.
I've gone into the *#*#4636#*#* phone options and tried different network settings, nothing.
I'm lost at what to try next!
Took some work to get T-Mobile to unlock my phone on lease and only 5 days old, I really dont want to have to replace the phone if I'm over looking something!
Got this figured out. Had to provision the ESIM again via T-Mobile T-Force Twitter chat and the PSIM kicked in. I don't think it's that I needed T-Mobile to do anything, the phone just didnt realize I wanted to use any SIMS.
Once I tried to setup the new ESIM, the phone was like, "oh, do you want to use two SIM's? Do you want to use both Slots 1 and 2"? I said yes and poof, PSIM worked.
However the ESIM said it was not activated so we had to get TMobile to enter the full EID in the ICC box on their screen and my phone immediately accepted the QR scan and activated the ESIM again.
You beat me to it, yeah, it can get a little whack there when you factory, do a wipe full image, etc. As you've seen if you just go back and tell it you want to set up an ESIM it will work. I'm on Fi so it's easy to do myself as I can just open the app and it will say I'm not provisioned and offer to set up the ESIM. Only came up once for me here when I first unlocked the bootloader and had the unconditional wipe but ran into it a few times with my 3A.
Help me out guys. I wonked up my P4 XL trying to install some custom script, I need to factory reset the thing again and I really don't want to go through all that BS of having to get T-Mobile T-Force online via Twitter and try to fix it!
I swear I picked the option to not wipe the eSim with the factory reset but then I did a full factory wipe and it killed it so is there a different between factory reset and wipe or something I need to pick for either or what? Help?
In *#*#4636 etc make sure that DS is enabled under the first menu option
