What rom are you using.

the dudes 1.2rc2

Personally I'd recommend switching over to Cyanogen's ROM...its blazing fast and Apps-to-SD it automatically incorporated as long as you have an ETX2/EXT3 partition on your micro sd card...by the way, DO you have the second partition? Because if you dont, that could be whats causing your problem

yea i repartitioned using the app it said it was creating an ext2

I agree that switching to Cyanogen's is the easiest way to go. You'll just need to format the ext2 then flash the rom.

so when the app told me it was kaing an ext2 it didnt?
or should i just use cyan rom and try the appstosd again

I'm not sure, but cyanogen has included modifications to make A2SD more stable, less chance of corruption. I think you're ext2 partition is corrupt, but ext3 is better anyway. So the best way to go is format the card in your phone and add an ext3 partition yourself, NOT using the app. then wipe and flash the rom.

It sounds like you are using apps2sd2 if that is the app you are using to create the partition. If you are using apps2sd2 to move your apps that is your problem. That is why they said not to use that app cause its a different method that doesn't work well. If I were you create the partition yourself using any of the methods on here (I like using ubuntu, there is a tuturial in my sig) then move the apps with apps with apps2sd1.

thanks i tried cyan rom and it did it automatically

Install Ubuntu and use Gparted
There's a script called SDsplit
there's also a script to partitoin that 51dusty made. Or you can stop being lazy and just type them it. It takes no more than 5min to do.
Or you can flash JF 1.51 adp because it doesn't use the sd so you're safe to partion the sd card and use partted in recovery. JAC has the directions on his Jacxhero ROM page. Thats what i use. Works everytime.

Before I started using "parted" I used apps2sd 2 (in the market).
The trick is to make sure you don't let it run the actual apps2sd but only use it to create the partition.
CM's does it better (and you might break something!!!).
If you don't have a ext partition and run apps2sd 2 it lets you create one.
Don't make the partition more than 500mb-530mb.
By the way, it only makes an ext2 partition so if you want ext3 go to console and and upgrade_fs.
Dusty's method in parted is much better!
This is just what I did before I stopped being lazy.

The one I'm talking about is called sdparted found here
the script provides 3 partitions... you may not need the swapper. try to make it manually, its easy!!!

If i backup my apps in the SD, will they appear when in my new rom?

it depends. are you using apps2sd or are you just backing them up on your fat32 partition?

I am using apps2sd, and i backup my ext3 partition... Which i restore in the new rom.
Then a quick Yes
Yes. if you are using apps2sd your apps are stored in the ext partition. as long as that is not wiped prior to flashing a new rom (that has apps2sd automatically) they will appear in the new rom.
depends on what rom you are coming from and going to. a standard cm upgrade and they should be there, if you are changing roms completely (especially cm to hero or vice versa) you will probably run into issues.

app2sd?

I'm using warm donut, flashed to the phone.. before hand I was using haret until I felt everything was stable enough.
My SD card is still partitioned the old way, 7.4GB fat32, 512M ext3, 32M swap
Is there a way to enable app2sd with warm donut so I can get more room? it might just be the fun of something new for now, but watching the free space for apps going down way to quickly

i second this, I would love to do apps to SD
I think it should be do-able now that we have the automount program that allows access sd card system and user simultaneously.
yeah you guys would love apps2sd...it's cool on my hero! im glad to see all of the android development going on here.
If you guys want to do Apps2SD, you'll need an ext2 partition on your SD for it. Native Android devices have had some trouble with Apps2SD, so it's just been rewritten by Chris Soyars and Cyanogen -- instead of the WesGarner method that had been used previously. I suggest using their code as it's battle-tested.
Here's the relevant code at github, as you can see it's been recently updated:

I have app2sd enabled in my eclair build.
If you want to use it you must have an ext2 parition on your sdcard. than use my spareparts app to enable. Reboot.. wait... and there you go.
Can we get this going in your build Myn?

Thanks for the quick reply.
This is starting to be not worth it and I am thinking I am glad that I was able to try android on an older phone because I dont think I will be getting an android phone when I upgrade in 6 months. Getting it so I can load apps to the sd card is WAAAAAAY to much of a pain I have tried a couple of tutorials and still cant get it to work.

Thanks for the super fast repsonse
I used gparted to create the partition and formated it to ext2.
The second part you are talking about install the system to nand and data to the ext2 partition. I have installed Myn’s Warm Donut - [RLS 4 - 03/16/2010] nand version and thats where I am at right now. Do I need to move the data folder to the ext2 partition that I created? If yes when I connect to my PC running windows 7 I cannot see the ext2 partition that I created with gparted.

use the norootfs installer and set your data to NAND, hit data backup, then set your data to ext2 and hit data restore.
Windows can't read ext2 on it's own

there you go much better answer then mine. Thanks man
would using ext2 partions make the build run smoother?
what are the benifits over NAND?
are you sure you need to have your data on the sd card? I was running apps2sd with mssmison's v7 eclair, and both my data and system were on nand, only the apps2sd was using the ext2 partition. i don't think it cares where your data.img is, just as long as you have an available ext2 partition; correct me if I'm wrong.

Ok making progress with your suggestion after 2 days of reading and failure -- lol.
I am now able to install apps to the sd card. However when I was trying all kinds of things to get this to work I made my 8GB sd card partitioned 6.5gb fat 32 and then made two ext2 partitions evenly split.
So do I need two ext partitions?
And as soon as I made the change and was able to install to the sd card I can no longer sync with my PC. Its not a huge deal because I took out the micro sd and placed it into an sd reader and my PC could still read it. So I am guessing that its something that I changed that is causing the phone not to sync with my PC.
Any thoughts

[Q] Number application limit ?

Is there any limit to the number of application that can be installed to this device?
I'm using app2sd Amarullz script. I've tried Darktremor and also s2e.
But after I installed a lot of applications (only takes about 200MB of my ext partition), I can't install anything more. Everytime I tried, it always get reboot while installing.
but after I remove some apps, I can install it.
i had like 304 apps installed...but no reboot when tried to add new ones...in fact the only thing that happened to me was extreme lags
what a2sd u are using?
your size of ext partition?
sorry I kinda curious what happened to me...

yes, after I uninstall some, I can install some. That's why i think the problem is application number or too much partition size that the device can't handle?

I've opened Root Explorer and open /sd-ext. It's r/w.
that's should be right that, isn't it?
I have more than 250 apps, and i'm having problems - launcher forced close.
Problems disappear if i remove - or quarantine/freeze - apps.
Seeem to me that it's worst with apps that scan for apps list - titanium backup, or others apps manager.
I do not use any a2sd progs - just the native 'move to sd' feature, with the hack to bypass original settings, used to mov e in SD freezed (unused) apps.
Another - separate - issue is memory occupation...
Seem to me that updating apps do not remove the older apps - this is surely true with ROM apps - so i get a lot of memory wasted.
Another - separate - issue is RAM, or run-time memory... Android should manage it on its own - but still i'm not so confident that errors do not occurs with heavy load.

[Q] New to SD-ext

Hello, I am new to SD-ext and Link2SD and such things, I googled around a little and found the most suitable solutions for the internal memory shortage of CM10.1 is either Link2SD or INT2EXT+
Now I want to ask, which is better at performance, more stable?
I would have went around experimenting as they say but the problem is that I don't know how to remove either of them, so please tell me that too, so if I didn't like one of them I remove it and try the other.
That's all for now, thanks in advance!
I would suggest int2ext, because effectively it increases the size of your internal storage instead of moving apps to sd. As long as you have a class 10 or better sd, you won't notice any difference in performance.

You can still use int2ext, but you will get a quite noticeable performance decrease. Just test it! To remove just go to system/etc/init.d, then you can just remove its files.

I actually tried Link2SD (With a EXT4) but it didn't read or create a script. I googled, people said use EXT2, so I just said, since it didn't work, let's try INT2EXT.
I flashed it (without removing Link2SD) and nothing changed...
I, just now, removed Link2SD and restarted: no changed.
What do you advice me to do? ((I think the problem is because this ROM doesn't support EXT4, but I am not sure of course))

Int2ext needs ext 4. After removing link2sd, you should reposition your sd to ext 4. And which Rom you have? Because current ones are all sporting init.d, so they support sdext.

Well, seems I should really change it from EXT4 to 2, I guess that's what I will try.
Thanks everyone so far! :good:
Since you have the latest CM10.1 nightly.. I suggest u try this..
Take a complete back up of your SD card.
Make sure u have uninstalled any apps and removed any scripts related to link2sd and such scripts. (When there's any doubt whether the old scripts would cause any problem, i always prefer wiping the device and freshly installing the rom to avoid any mistakes)
If u do not have any problem flashing the ROM again, i really suggest u to do so and then do the below steps. Definitely should work.
Reboot into recovery mode.
Go to advanced option and select SD partitioning option
Select the partition size as 1024mb and swap size as 0mb.
Proceed with partitioning.
Reboot your device.
Save fixed-int2ext+ for android 4.2..1 by CronicCorey on the root of your SD card..
Boot into recovery again.
Go to mounts and storage option and mount data, system and sd-ext.
Go to install zip from SD card.. Choose zip from SD card.. Select the int2ext+ script.
After installation.. Go to mounts and storage and unmount data and system and format sd-ext.
Now reboot the device and check.. It'll be done.
I have done this many times and it's worked. I use 16gb class 4.. No issues.. Smooth for me..
After installing this script.. Make sure u dont wipe dalvik cache using recovery mode. Your device will get into boot loop.. Use wipe dalvik cache script specifically created for int2ext by croniccorey..
