Trying out the new Tilt with BlackBerry Connect. BBC is working great but when the security policy was loaded and the password enabled the password screen comes up with a dimmed backlite making it impossible to see in sunlight and nearly impossible to see in doors. Any one else have this problem found a way to fix?
The Tilt has built in GPS and I have gotten it to work with both Google Maps and MS Live Search. I have noticed that MS maps do not show some on and off ramps. Google seems to show them all but is much slower at updating the maps as they scroll. The problem is that when in map mode BBC times out and puts up the password screen. Is this an unfortunate feature of BBC and its security settings? Has anyone experienced and figured a way to fix?
I think the Tilt has all the features I was looking for in one device but it isn't quite perfect yet. I'm also converting from Verizon to AT&T and have found phone coverage to be spotty but in certain towns in my area, they are 3G enabled and Verizon does not have high speed network connectively in the same area.
I am trying to replace my BB 7130e phone and corporate email and HP rx5915 PDA for GPS and MP3 player. So far the Tilt is real close.
Thanks for any help.
jesus you are the epitome of new users in this forum that dont know how to read...LOOK AT THE TOP THING THAT WAS STICKED IN THIS FORUM: TILT QUESTIONS!!!! put your question in there!!!! (yeah I'm flaming, but with good reason)
Thanks for the answer, oh that’s right you didn't have one. Yes I could have put it there but no I thought I would put it in the main stream where I might get a quick response. I would have guessed from all the appendages attached to your message that you are the kind of person I was hoping may have some thoughts on the problems that I have been having. Looks are deceiving I guess. Excuse me for getting your panties in a bunch.

Everyones looking for a quick fix. Use the search button and take your time, my friend... we all did.
I almost guarantee that any question you have has already been asked and answered.
Thanks for the kinder more gentle response. I have been searching several forums and have yet to uncover any possible solutions. I will keep searching. Thanks.
Sorry, can't help with your problems, pretty knew myself. FYI though, go to the google search link on the homepage. It is waaaaaay better at searching than the standard search button. Honestly, if ppl could just say 'use search' or 'sorry look harder' instead of trying to humiliate....

Or just say nothing at all
Not to start vaguely but I'm not very impressed. The interface is subpar; from both the touch standpoint and shortcut. It does seem to be better than IE, though.
please die. why would u feel the need to post this in kaiser? why not GENERAL on the site not kaiser..

A mistake because I'm used to only browsing this forum. Way to overreact, dufus.
Is there a mod who can move it or should I repost?
Now Now Children. Play nice.
You got to try the Skyfire Beta? I've been on the waiting list forever.
Hows it run on your Kaiser?

If you mean specifically performance, I'd say it's quite acceptable so far. I don't have any hard numbers nor have I tried heavy video but it's pretty good in that regard. My gripes are mainly with usability. When I start the app (and it is an app you can't tab out of, must exit) it takes about 5-10 seconds to load and then begins in a "Featured" tab you can see from their screenshots. What it should be, in my opinion, is either an actual home page or my bookmark list. I couldn't care less about any of those featured tabs and resent being forced to default there. I can only bookmark a page I'm at right now, I can't edit the URL or add one in manually. I also can't rename bookmarks which means something like CNN becomes "CNN.com - Breaking News, U.S., World, Weather..." on the screen. Sometimes I want to pan the page by touch and it decides to zoom instead. It's not properly responsive to touch, at least not on my Tilt.
I'm uncomfortable with the fact that all my traffic is flowing through a third party's servers. I don't know these people from a hole in the wall and that is a LOT of trust to ask for. Do they really think I'll be checking my bank statement via their server? I'll switch to something like Opera 9.5 (if it ever comes out) because I just can't bring myself to sign into anything important via Skyfire.
actually I have been using it for the past week. To even compare it with IE is rediculous. The interface is clean and uncluttered. It works flawlessly. Literally almost ANY type of content works flawlessly....youtube videos, etc. I even went to Fox and watched their "on-demand" programming right on my Kaiser. I've been very impressed so far and this is only a beta I am using.

I was afraid it might be slow.
Yes that's my concern as well I don't like these Proxy One Like Skyfire. I'm not saying I run around wearing a Foil Hat But I don't like that it Goes from A to B via C. The more hand offs the more vulnerable I feel. Thats also why I ahven't picked a IM program yet. I want to know which are through their servers and which has direct connect.

Im with you on this i have been using it for about a month now with little issues. Only problem i have is we now stay in an edge only area so its a little slow rendering some pages. I use it for surfing but still use IE if im checking my accounts. I think it's works very well. I have used opera's new beta and netfront and even in its current version i like the skyfire better. They are adding new features also according to the email they sent me.
Later
This is a general question about people's experience with Internet speeds on the device.
I have used several different ROMs, both stock and cooked and fine that Internet browsing is very slow.
I usually am getting either 3G or H coverage with 3-4 bars. If I open up the forum site for instance, it could be a good 2 minutes before the browser is responsive enough for me to type anything in. It's almost like the device is so busy rendering the page that it can't even download.
I don't think this is a speed issue, because when I tether my laptop I generally get pretty good speeds, and that same page will come down on my laptop in 15 seconds.
I know that PIE isn't the best browser, but is it really PIE that is causing such slow browsing? I honestly haven't tried opera yet as it seems to always be in a beta and I have read posts about many issues with that browser as well.
Do other's have such a slow time browsing? It's almost embarrasing when I have to pull my device out to look for something quick and it takes 5-10 minutes to get some info of the web.
Again, I don't think this is radio or ROM specific, since I have more or less the same experience on all... I am wondering if there is something up with the connections in my area, although I find this hard to believe as I don't live out in the boonies.
thx.
Use opera
yes iexplorer is slow..
i use opera and 3G its fast !

I guess it's time I give it a try. There are apparently some new versions floating around from the Diamond? Do these work or should I stick with an older one?
If you could recommend which version I should try for a better experience I would appreciate it. I'll then comment on the differences in speed.
thx
i use the "old" one, but the Diamond one seems to work

I'm trying the newer one. I like the 8.5 version better ( I think that was the one). It was more user friendly.
However, whenever I attempt to open this forum on my device it takes about 3-5 minutes just to get into the Kaiser section.
I typically only use my internet browser for information that can be found in any daily newspaper, which only takes a minute or two during each session to find.

I think there might be some type of script on the (forum) page that slows it down. Once or twice after about 2-3 minutes of waitintg PIE popped something up that said a script was taking longer than expected.
What is so bad is that it locks the whole browser not letting you click "stop" and just browse what has already bee downloaded (which is usually enough). When it does stop, it usually takes you back to last page to start all over again .
I guess I shouldn't be so surpried to think that PIE is crud.... although not all pages are horrible...google and google news and wikipedia aren't too horribly slow.
Bengalih Gsleon3 posted the opera 781 diamond build. In there you will find the 1004 build in pages 3 or 4. I recommend you use opera too, either one will do good, im currently browsing and posting this comment from opera 9.5.
yeah, i have that problem with Pie too, hence why i found my new default browser, opera 9.5.
here is the link:

i am typing this now on 9.5 on a slower Edge connection and it is much faster.
however it does seem a little hard to navigate especially without the stylus.
am i corect in assuming you can't interact (click) on the scren when it is zoomed out? that you must first zoom in?
also i miss the URL dropdown like on PIE are there aditional shotcuts so you don't need to go back into the settings menu each time?
thx

yeah i noticed that too, i gotten used to the opera functions, indeed sometimes is hard to click links without the stylus. can you provide me a link to the drop down menu? AFAIK even the search button up the page works. it maybe different i guess.
hey all browsers have its shortcoming and i wished this one use the touch flo scrolling.
Any chance there's a way to run Apache Home Server on my CDMA Hero?
Not looking for anyone who wants to convince me not to, I would just like to know if it's possible/doable.
Also, rather than making a seperate topic,
Is there any way we can:
1) Make a pointer for the track ball? Even, at the very least, while using the browser? I mean, really... why has this not been done yet?
2) Make it so our Home Screens turn when the Accelerometer changes to wide view. When sliding the keyboard out on the Droid and (I believe G1) the viewing automatically changes to landscape. I would love this feature as well. Is this doable, possible?
Thanks in advance, any advice given is appreciated!

if you compile apache and all the libs and whatever it depends on for android then it should be possible. afaik there is a webserver for android out there, any reason why it needs to be apache? i think it is way to complex for android, a small lightweight webserver should be no problem in theory.
a trackball pointer might be possible, but not trivial. personally i don't see the reason, when using the trackball in the browser the selected link is highlighted green, what do you need a pointer for?
again, theoretically doable is also the rotated homescreen. you "just" need to redesign sense ui for landscape view. which might be really hard, as it is more than just a small app, and it is closed source (because it is part of htc's modifications, not part of the original android). tbh, don't wait for it to happen unless htc does it.
and last but not least: no offense, but give your posts a few hours, not everything is answered directly.

It doesn't need to be Apache, I'm just more familiar with that particular server software. If there are other options I would be glad to explore them. There are a few things I would like to test that I think would be kind of cool depending on the type of webserver I can run.

A track ball would help out in a lot of ways. If open to the OS it would let me select programs, etc. while wearing gloves. It would open up the option of navigating without having to actually use the touch screen in case the scenario presents itself (again, gloves).
If just the browser it could help with games and those types of things. One important thing I have noticed is that I can't scroll within a frame on the browser. If I had a pointer I could, at the least, be able to click and drag the inner frame down without moving the main browsing page. This is somewhat vital to me as my College's Blackboard System is completely based on these types of web pages.

That's a shame. The one problem I have is the amount of rotating I have to do. I would prefer to have the home screens locked in landscape rather than how they are now. It's just a little ridiculous to be watching a video on the phone and texting someone... but every time you want to reply/text you have to rotate the phone. It just seems tedious and I'm a man of efficiency if I can help it.
Maybe I can convince HTC.

Sorry about that. XDA is very popular and I assumed my post had already become lossed in the fray. I posted on my lunch break and bumped one hour before having to go home so I had hoped I would get one response before then.
Thanks!
And anymore information would be appreciated. Not just from you but anyone else who has any information.

I believe this is being done in the 2.1 Sense that HTC have promised us...sometime.
But imo its really ugly, nothing seems to be the right proportions (I'm a designer, so it kinda bugged me)

that can be solved, press menu on homescreen, from there on you can use the trackball to navigate to all programs and then navigate through the menu.
i got myself some gloves from north face, which have a conducting fabric on the tips of thumb and index finger, so i can use the touchscreen natively with them. works great, actually got them before i had the hero because they are cool anyway
for the rest: i see your point now, but can't help. and tbh i don't think htc will take too much interest in your concerns... but try anyway, at least they should know about it!
For the web server you might want to try PAW server for Android. Although it's still in beta, it has a lot of built-in goodies like call log, send SMS and so on.
And you can serve your own static or dynamic (BeanShell) pages.
Hiya everyone!
I'm new here, but I have to thank you for your help already; while I was having trouble setting up Kies, I found this forum and the advice here helped me through. I really needed the help, because I'm completely new to this sort of thing - my last phone was, what, seven years old? So this technology is kinda new to me.
However, there is now another issue bugging me:
I'm rather fond of reading manga, and with my new phone I can do it anywhere, without having to drag entire volumes with me (I'm a quick reader). However, problems do arise!
First of all, the Gallery function seems inclined to organise pictures based on date rather than name. Seeing as mangas aren't always edited in the correct order, this invariably means that some chapters or pictures will get jumbled up, arrive in the wrong place etc (like Chapter 49 coming before Chapter 48 or the second half of Chapter 70 coming before the first half). The files are sorted correctly in their folder under "My Files", but not in the gallery. Any ideas?
Secondly, it gets rather tiresome to have to tap the screen constantly, so I'd like to be able to view it as a slideshow. The problem, however, is that the slideshow function moves far too quick; is there any way to make the slideshow wait longer between each picture?
I have already searched the forums for help, and found some threads, but no answers, sadly. Also, seeing as I'm a complete beginner, I'm yet to download any Apps - are there any Apps that would fix this?
Thank you in advance!
try out acv, android comic viewer. It works quite well for me, I've been reading berserk on it. Also you can try manga browser. It will essentially stream manga from manga sites for you. Hope this helps!
Hmm, I downloaded ACV, and it does indeed work much better than the Galleries - it keeps everything in the right order.
However, am I just going mad or is there no auto-play feature? Although, under Settings --> ACV format, there is an option called "Autoplay", it doesn't actually seem to do anything... so is there any possibility for it autoplaying (preferably with about 10-12 seconds per picture?)
I ask because I am currently having some muscle issues with my arms, and after clicking the same "Next"-buttons a couple of hundred times they really start to hurt.
