Noob needs help - Touch Diamond CDMA

Ok i will take all the crap you guys want to dish out i really dont mind i am after all just a noob but I have a cdma touch diamond for alltel and i really would like to know everything i need to do in order to start flashing as well as any advice on all roms I can use. I really need a system that is more finger friendly as opposed to using a stylis all the time and i need an easier way to text i love the phone but i have those to problems i really like the way the I phone is set up but alltel doesnt have that phone so this is the best i could get with my service i would appreciate all the help i can get and please excuse my noobishness thankyou for your patronage.

Maybe you should also check out ppcgeeks forum at http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=67, 95% of it it´s CDMA.
Cheers.

I would suggest flashing indagroove's 6.5 rom if you would like to use just windows, it is simply amazing. Its finger friendly for the most part, menus are larger as well as the home screen is easy to navigate. If you like tflo3d the I would suggest getting EnergyROM or if you don't want to flash a new rom get the bell ui by xbmod. Hope that helps!

A few questions

1. I keep reading on these forums that having a 4mb pagepool is a bad thing, or that it may cause problems. Has anyone had any personal experience with it? I currently use the 6mb and don't see any reason to go any lower, but the next Touch-IT rom has a 4mb pagepool already built in so I'm wondering.
2. Has anyone tried this on their Herald/Wing? I can't because this Touch-IT rom that I'm using lacks the Internet Sharing program.
3. I'm becoming more and more interested in cooking, but I'm afraid to try anything because it seems that every kitchen I've downloaded has had a "herald" option but not a Wing option. I've been able to successfully put a Herald rom on the Wing but the keyboard issues bug the heck out of me. Is there a kitchen that takes care of this automatically by giving me a Wing option? Basically, I'm tired of having to clean up the ever useless my5 and fixing all the little bugs by hand.
I have used 4mb pagepool as long as I can remember, never had any problems.
Im starting to wonder if I got the "wonder" p4350, because I never had any of the issues ppl experience with wifi, keymapping, pagepool etc etc, on custom roms.
If you do a search in the wiki, you can find internet sharing progs. The reason I left it out is that many dont use it, few do. So, when I leave it in, ppl complaint why I didnt remove it, and when its out, others complaint why its not there cause they use it all the time..and so on.
Cooking for wing is same setup as p4350, its just diffrent apps, reg edits, and so on.
Good luck with cooking if you gonna try...
btw, I am not providing assistance on "cooking for dummies." Find tutorials on how to cook in this forum.
ALL the info you need to start cooking is provided here on xda-dev. and then some...
good luck
Thanks!
Yea, the cooking I can figure out, it's just the making sure that things match up to the Wing and not just the herald.
Although, I'm still not sure if the effort is worth it as you already make some great roms. I almost feel like just making a customer install file that will setup everything I need instead into whatever rom I'm using at the momment.

I can't believe more people complain about it being missing than it being included. I can understand stuff like Transcriber but MS has made internet sharing so freaking easy with this program it is seamless and takes a matter of seconds to accomplish. I for one am happy they got rid of BT DUN in place of this.
Is there someway I can put it back on? I searched the WIKI and I do not see any free Internet Sharing apps. And I am sure they do not compare to the stock version that comes with WM6.
The Touch It rom is near perfect but Internet Sharing is killing me because I use it to hook up my work laptop while I am at the airport.
Thanks for your efforts and thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have about getting my Internet Sharing back without having to go back to the stock rom.

Hey i'm new =]

Hey i'm new here and I could use some help =]
First is that I currently use N95 but next week i'll get my first HTC which is Diamond, and for the first time i'll be using WinMO6.1 instead of Symbian.
So the first thing I do is research, and then I found out this place which I can already see that i'll be spending some good time tweaking my diamond, but after reading countless threads about ROMs and RADIOs and such I still don't get a few things, if you could explain it to me, I would be grateful.
1.Which ROMs are better? cooked (which I understand are user based) or the HTC ones?
2.I Currently live in israel, so hebrew is an important part of my day, so it goes without saying that I need to be able to read and write english. I Don't want the OS to be in hebrew, but atleast beeing able to read and write, so my question is, if I'll flash another ROM instead of the offical one i got from Orange (which contain hebrew), will I lose this option? and if I will, will i be able to install it again?
3.I Understand that the basic UI provided with the diamond is the Touchflo3D, but I also read something about Manilla, and another shell I can't remmember, would anyone care to explain to me about these shells? I Saw one shell that looked exactly like HTC Hero, but it wasn't Android OS, just the UI, Was that Manilla?
and my final request is this, this phone has been around for a long time , so naturally there are alot of ROMs for it and alot of tweaks, softwares and stuff like that, if someone can direct me to the most updated, trusted and stable releases i'd be very grateful!, I need the diamond to have decent battery, good signal, good music player (very important for me) and if possible, i'd love the Theme that looks like the HTC Hero OS .
Thanks to anyone who spent time on reading all of this and I can't wait to get my hands on the diamond
P.S
Sorry for my english by the way.

[Q] Can I use a Diamond from another carrier?

Hey, I would like to know if I could use a sprint Diamond or Touch Pro on another carrier. The carrier I would like to use it with is cellular south.
Hey, I found your question!! Ok, well since your Diamond is security unlocked, I believe the answer is yes, look into a rom on PPCgeeks.com called Energy Rom, I am using his latest release, there are two posts for Energy Rom so make sure you get the newest one, anyways, included in this rom is what he calls Carrier Provisioning, it has Sprint as well as Cellular South in there.
Let me know how it works out for you!
EDIT: Hey, I figured I should link you to the page so you dont have to hunt!
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=74084
click the blue button that says "Download" NOT the one that says "Download all Roms Here"
So once I unlock and install the rom, how exactly do I activate it over cellular souths network if it came from sprint? and thank for reply lol I never got replys on my questions except for battery issues.
Also do you have info for me about the touch pro, becaue im fixing them and want to flash them to cellular south because thats the most popular carrier where i am.
Ok, from what I understand about switching carriers is this, once you use the carrier provisioning, you need to use the attached program called Phone Codes.cab, what this does is allows you to do a manual setup of the phone, on a stock rom(shipped rom) you would do this by going to the dial pad and typing in ##somenumber#, but that doesn't work on most custom roms so someone(cant remember who to give credit to, SORRY DEV) made this app to access the hidden setup menus. Call cell south and tell them you are doing a manual activation of your new phone and that you need the pin number used to log in to the setup, then have them tell you what to change and what to change it to! I know it sounds like a lot, but its really not, also if you dont think you can do this alone, just install the phone codes.cab and go to a cell south location and ask a tech guy to do the setup, but make sure to tell them they have to use the program because they cant access it through the dial pad!
Wow, that was a mouthful
As far as the touch pro, as long as its a cdma phone, you might be able to program it to cell south, I have never used that phone unfortunately so I don't want to give you terrible advice. I will always try to help since XDA has always been good to me!
Thank you so much for the info!!! You really helped, could you recomend me a rom for my touch diamond? I like eye candy and performance, I always have problems with custom roms "fm radio not working, gps not working, data not working... etc...
I have tried almost every rom I could find, I have to say there are three that stood out, 1st is Moonscapex's "1.6"(fast, light on mem, and a beautiful black theme), 2nd is "Very Lt. Sense" from Dev O.a.T.(I liked this one because it includes Max Sense, I think its the only rom for the Diamond that does, but it uses up a bit more mem), the 3rd is "Energy Rom" from Dev NRGZ28( my personal favorite, it is good on mem, has in my opinion a beautiful theme, and is highly customizable). So those are just my favorites, I still use my Sprint Hero as a daily phone, so I have had an opportunity to flash a lot of roms and add-ons to my Diamond and I can honestly say there are bugs in quite a few roms but the three I suggested are the most stable I have used.
Now for the fun stuff, I am an early adopter of the android platform, so I am of course going to suggest XDAndroid, this is not flashable, I mean it will not replace WM, think of it as Parallels(a virtual machine), it is fairly simple to add to your phone, it is not the most functional at this point but the Devs involved are working very hard, and it is working well enough at this point that you can run it and see if you like Android(I know you will), and I think its great that we have a choice of 1.6/2.1/or 2.2!!
Also, XDA is great, really my favorite community, so it embarasses me to say this, but for roms for our CDMA Diamonds PPCGeeks.com is the place to go.
Ok, well let me know if there is anything else

[Q] Touch Diamond Roms

Hi,getting my htc touch diamond this week (its in the mail) & was wondering as some of you folks out there have had yours a few years now can you give me a list of names for roms you think are worth trying ie Energy rom ,then i can go find them & collect them all to try out,i seen the energy one on utube love the icons & smoothnes of it but would like you guys ideas knowing more than me... thyanks in advance Ali... lincolnshire uk
There is so much variety out there. It really depends what you want to get from your device. Just have a look through the ROM section and pick out one with what you need.
Personally I use this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740252
It's the fastest and most stable ROM I've tried yet.
Cheers for that yeh i been looking it seems there loads to pick from, ime just getting my head round how to flash one,i have flashed it but not the mtty way so just reading how to do it that way.. dont seem as easy maby ime missing some thing..

To much info for me...:)

I've got a few questions, and there's so much stuff on this forum, that i can't seem to find what i'm looking for.
I own a dutch TP2 without a simlock, just to make clear.
I'm looking for a very simple, fast and stable rom.
I only use the phone for calling, sms, i-net with opera or skyfire, and sometimes i watch a youtube movie. So i don't need everything else. Only thing i have on my phone now is the simple start menu and S2U2. I don't even use Sense.
Is there such a rom out there, that works on my phone?
And is there a "n00b guide" for how to flash it?
Tnx in advance
I'd say try mine LBFAR based on COM2 (21899), it is probably the fastest ROM featuring Manila. Don't worry, it is 100 times faster than Sense, while it keeps nice and cool UI .
You can try mine also COM5 (23569), but it isn't bugless and I'm afraid I will never fix some issues, because they are unfixable.
yes, there is a guide for how to flash it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550540
be sure to read the whole guide before you flash it. Flashing the ROM is not too hard although can be a bit intimidating for the first time but after you have done it, it's not too bad.
For your need, I would suggest go with the titanium based roms, these roms took out all of the extras and just have the essentials in it. A lot of people like the long time establishment, such as Energy ROM. I personally have been using energy's rom and happy with it as to which oen is the best or most stable that's a bit hard to say because each ROM can be slightly different. You can also opt for a few other ROM that simply stripe all of the extras and use them.
I second that, Ondrster's ROM is incredibly fast and stable. I'm not using it ATM, but I would recommend it to anyone. If you want a lot of features and want to avoid HTC's UI all together, try NRG's titanium ROM, full of features, and very stable and fast. You might also want to look at using a different UI, such as SPB Mobile Shell; which is customizable and widget based, allowing you to keep your homescreen layout quite simple (it's also great on battery life).
Information overload... I agree. I am Dutch and have a HTC Pro2 too, just like you. Sometimes I come here on the forums, because I'd like to see what ROMS are there. This time my eye fell on this one:
"[ROM] [WWE] [ August 21 ] [ simplicity - 21915 | 23130 | Sense 2018 ]"
Wow! Looks fast, and not too different from the original WM 6.5 software. I decided to give it a go... So I start to read, and sure enough, I'm confused again before you know it and decided not to bother with it. First reason was this:
"IMPORTANT: Make sure you have used Hard-SPL before flashing any ROM. I also recommend you to use Task 29 each time before flashing any ROM."
Hard-what? Why do I need that? So ok, I click on the link, go to another thread, see tons of info with bigletters and red warnings etc. but NO INFO ON WHAT IT ACTUALLY DOES! Confuuuusingggggg... And Task29? What the heck is THAT?! Must I really read 100+ pages per thread?
See, you guys might understand a lot of this stuff, but not all of us do. My wish is that it would be made easy and understandable so I don't just keep coming and going but nothing changes on this microsoft dominated *** slow phone that contains a lot of sh* i don't even need....
Bleh. I'll keep trying until I get it.
In few words: HardSPL disables checking when flashing, if the ROM is from HTC or any other people (in default, it is enabled only for HTC of course).
Task29 is overrated IMHO, I never did it and I never had any issues . If you don't have strange and weird issues that happen only for you, you can forget about task29.

OK thank you for the answer. I have browsed much and have read that Task29 removes stale files that have not been removed after ROM upgrades. Perhaps I'll give it a go later on. Right now I am waiting for a HardSPL key, because I understand that I need one. After that I'm going to flash my first ROM! So exciting...!!
I have used my calendar a lot and I sync it with ActiveSync daily. I won't lose the calendar, will I? I think that I can just sync it back after ROM flashing.. but if I am overlooking something, please let me know
OldSkool-II >> How are you doing with your flashing quest?
If it's synced, you should be fine.
If you want a fast and completely stable ROM then stay with Windows Mobile 6.1, don't care if someone has a "fast" version of any WM6.5 out there.
It's like saying Windows Vista is faster, and more stable, than Windows XP. Regardless of all the tweaking you do XP will always be faster.
But give both versions a try if since you're new to flashing and if one bothers you then just keep flashing , I've had this ROM on my phone for moths and it doesn't even cross my mind to even want to try a new ROM or look for anything else. It's as perfect as it can get in fact lol.

Umm, not with Sense its not.
There is a reason why they created 6.5. If you add Sense to 6.1, you are going to recmod a LOT of things and its just gonna make your phone so darn slow you will want to set it on fire.
Still a bit iffy about flashing it, although i did it beforen with a really old WM phone.
Just want to find a ROM that does what i want it to do.
On another note, my coworker has an Iphone, and when he's watching a movie with youtube, it doens't have to buffer every 25 sec...
Same provider tho, but that's prolly the difference between windows and android?
Maybe not the right place to ask, but is there a stable android for the TP2?
