I got a text from someone about 3 weeks ago and ever since then I keep receiving a notification for this text. Under messaging all threads are deleted. Sometimes the phone notifies me of the text 50 times in 5 min and others 50 times a day. So how the hell do I delete my sms text cache or maybe notification cache? Not sure
kernel version: 2.6.27-00392-g8312baf
build: htc_dream-eng 1.5 cupcake eng
TheDudesAbides.2009427.235325
If you need more info, just say so.
Looking for a method that preferably looses as minimal settings as possible. Meaning I would rather not wipe the phone, but if that is what it takes, that is what it takes.
I know how to turn the notifications off, but that doesn't really fix my problem.
any help would be appreciated

Text messages are stored here:
Code:
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/
or some slight variation of that depending on your particular build. You can adb to your phone and check out this particular folder. There may be a cache folder in there you can clear out, but there may not be. If you don't want to wipe, you will have to do some poking around and check things out in this folder
thanks directmatrix
alright so I go to /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/ and there is 2 databases. mmssms.db and telephone.db. I downloaded the mmssms.db opened it with SQLite Database Browser. I cleaned out everything under the sms and threads tables. No other tables had any info or nothing relevant to the specific message I was trying to get rid of. Once I was done with the file I saved it then pushed it back. Still get the annoying message. sound like the correct or suitable procedure?
Does anyone have any idea of what else I can check or do?
thanks in advance
Never mind the carriers fault.

I am pulling my frickin hair out trying to figure this, so I am asking for help.
I am running xRom, everything up-to-date, and the only 3rd party messaging app I have is SMS Popup, which has been disbaled throughout my entire problem.
The issue is that whenever I get a text it is playing a full song out off my sdcard, despite my ringtone being set to "Don't Panic" in the settings. I erased the song w/ Linda File Manager, and after that it chose a random tone to play, not the one I had set. This is more acceptable to me since it is an actual messaging tone (1 or 2 notes) but I am just worried it is going to choose another song at some point, which is way too long when you are texting back and forth with someone.
Any ideas?
Edit: Ok I opened SMS Popup (disabled already) to double check it was turned off, and now it vibrates, which really sucks, I am rarely close enough to hear or feel the vibrations...
Try doing a wipe and then flash. That might fix it. If you have a partitioned sd card, try repartioning it...

That sounds like an extreme but it will work
You know that there are 2 places you can set your notifications from right? Once is menu/settings/sounds and display and the other one is when you open up messaging app hit menu/settings/notification settings,
See if that has anything to do with your problem before you start nuking your partitions
Good luck

This led me to the answer, thanks. What had happened was in the messaging application at some point I had selected the music, not realizing the two weren't tied together, which would make too much sense. Anyhow, I erased the song, so now nothing was selected, so for some reason it was cycling thru the different ringtones, which makes no sense, but whatever. So I set it back to the "Default Ringtone" option, and now it works fine. Thank God I didn't have to wipe, I probably would have just dealt with it for another few days, cause wiping stresses me worse than this **** did.
Alright. The screen broke on my first Captivate because I was clumsy/stupid. Put the claim in for insurance, got a new phone, set everything up. Nice shiny phone, what could go wrong? For one single contact, it 'forgets' the area code when I go to message them from contacts or reply to their messages. I have to type in their name and choose the number from the drop down list. Very annoying as this is the person I text the most. I've seen two other threads on this subject, but there was no mention of a cure. I've tried deleting and re-entering the contacts, to no avail. I tried using GO Sms, it has the same problems. I have stock 2.1, running LauncherPro -in case that matters.
I think I'm in the clear to bump this, as it has yet to be resolved and it has been a month. Please. anyone? I'm certain I'm not the only one to experience this problem.
I just started putting the area code into my contacts' phone numbers. I did it on my PC in Google's contacts app, though.
If only it was that easy. The area code is in the contact's phone number! I click reply to a text and it will often disappear! Thanks for trying though. I remember reading once that it was a bug in the actual contact management itself, but I thought the great people here would be able to come up with a solution.
Edit: Actually, I am adding this contact to google contacts as I type, maybe your suggestion will work after all! I'm no sure yet do to the sporadic nature of the bug.

Hmm.. This is a known issue with the stock ROM.. Download and load a custom Firmware..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364 shows how to root phone and load custom roms..
For downloading custom rom, use one of them, like phoenix from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=892973

I think these methods worked for many people. Use one:
1. Do a full factory reset.
2. Open messaging
click new message
Add offending contact to the send list
click to type in the send list and hit backspace until you have deleted the incorrect phone number.
then type in the correct phone number.
type a test message and hit send to fix the contact permanently.
3. Delete the contact. Ask the contact to call you. In the call log, long press and add to contact
Adding to Google Contacts didn't work after all. I am thinking of Flashing a custom ROM tonight once I decide on which.
Thanks for the help though! It is really annoying.
Hello guys
Friend of mine running stock Galaxy Note. GB without OS upgrades or custom roms. Just as it came out the box.
Today, when we were having breakfast, he couldn't access his SMS. The message would come, but when he open the SMS app, there was nothing showing up.
In the same time, all missed calls notifications stopped working. He has barely any apps, an older guy, who use everything stock, and the Note is just for him to read news.
I have been using S2 for a year and S3 for few weeks. Not once I came across such thing, nor do I remember seeing any post regarding such issue on Android forums.
Any light on the topic would be much appreciated.
regards
Seba
Hi,
I've got the same problem with SMS missing. All my SMS suddenly disappear from the SMS list. Need help how to check if all my SMS still in the phone or already deleted.
have any of you two popout your SIMs and put it back again? are you still getting the same issue after?

Just tried to remove the SIM and insert it back again. Still no message in the SMS list. Same issue, no message yet.
Well... if that's the case, I would recommend you try doing a factory reset on that phone (it's running in GB right), before you do the factory reset, do try to backup whatever datas you can back it up.
After the wipe, check if those issues are stil there (or not anymore).

Would like to avoid Full Wipe in this case. I'm using ICS now. Are there any other solution? Will consider Full Wipe if nothing can be done.

well if your using ICS now, and if your using also an unsafe kernel.... flash a safe one (e.g. SpeedMod, NotecCore/HydraCore) and your gonna be safe with the Wipe after. Those kernels have the eMMC bug disabled.

Anyone still facing missing SMS issued, any solution?? b'cos I still facing particular SMS missing, the one most SMSs compare others number. my note is stock and not root.
I saw some post saying have to root the phone delete the "sms" system files then will recover back the disappear sms. It was due to existing system file corrupt and recreate it, if not the issue still there.
is it a bug on ICS?
I can't send text messages from areas that I used to be able to. It shows I have signal but fails to send.
Google Calendar I can't see info because the colors are messed up.
Copy paste function the words do not show up in the box for the actions.
Should I just factory reset and try again? I had themes and good lock among other things set up and ever since the update my device had been acting up.
try wipe cache partition first
I just wiped cache partition and still have issues. I'll try to include screenshots.
Try with the default theme in case the customisation is causing issues

Perfect! That fixed most of my problems. Thank you very much!
Now if I could just figure out why my texts are not sending like they used to... I sit in the exact same area every day at work and never had an issue sending or receiving texts until the PIE update.
I just got the Pixel 5 and absolutely love it!
However, I keep having this very odd and reoccurring issue where at least once or twice a day, when I tap on the GM app, I get a blank screen and can't access my messages UNLESS I close out the app and clear the cache as well. Then it's fine. But when this issue occurs, any pics or attachments sent to me are no longer accessible. I tap on them, and it just tells me they're expired even though the person had just sent them like 10 minutes or so ago. The blank screen thing is bad enough, but this is def worse because then I have to ask the person to resend whatever they'd sent.
Does anyone here have ANY clue why this is happening? It's really annoying. I've tried all sorts of things including clearing the data for GM, as well as for the SMS and MMS system apps, uninstalling and then reinstalling GM's updates (since you can't uninstall the app itself because it's a Google phone), etc. But honestly I can't seem to fix the issue.
If anyone here has a resolution for this issue, please reply to this post as I'm sure I'm not the only one dealing with this.
Thanks in advance!!!

I didn't have the same issue but did have Google messages issues where conversations would take a while to load up and messages would take minutes to send.
I went to the play store, turned off auto updates for Messages, then hit uninstall, which just uninstalls the updates and rolls back to an earlier version. Back to normal. Everything worked well.
I eventually did a factory reset and am now running on the latest messages fine.

Yeah aside from the factory reset, I did all that. Didn't work for me either.
How do you turn off auto updates for Messages in the Play Store app though??
Thing is, if they put out a fix for this via an update, then turning off auto updates will only postpone resolving the issue too.
I've read that some people have done a factory reset and STILL had the issue though too, so I'm very hesitant to do all that.
Thanks though!

The GM app (I'm not sure what that is, GM Android Auto?) probably has a contact developer link in the G Play listing. Take a bug report/logcat and send them an email with the complaint and attach the log.

Try joining the beta for messages? It's generally slightly newer and you can join, leave without anything being wiped, might help, might not. Outside that, I've got nothing to offer.

No. I was just abbreviating Google Messages. lol
Oh it DOES have that info unholy, but they apparently don't respond to messages it seems. I've sent feedback though to them about it, or well, a bug report with the log attached.

You have the option I believe to either restore all messages or not. But one easy thing you can try is to backup all your messages, they have a free 3rd party app, then delete all of them and try GM again to see if it fixes your issue. There might be one message improperly formatted or something that is hanging up your system. Then you can restore what you need and not everything. Worth a shot.

Go to the app in the play store and on the very top right click on the three dots. You'll get a drop down box where you can toggle automatic updates.
Some of these issues are so finicky when factory resets won't help. Good luck
