ok i have been to this page but it does not answer my questions.
I have jf 1.5.
I dont have root anymore.
I want jf 1.51
and I want root.
I cannot format my card to fat32 vista won't let me.
Just follow this again, and you will be fine. I have lost root doing various things playing with my phone. Everytime, I have had to start over and drop the phone back down to RC29 and redo it. Follow the directions to the letter and you will be fine. Then grab the JF 1.51 and apply it.
alternatively, you could just download Harry_M's kernel and it will give you root back again. You just need to rename to update.zip and flash (at least that is what I did). Although, I must warn you, I was running a stock adp1 at the time...so I'm not responsible if it doesn't work right.
I lost root with the crc1 update, and this fixed mine.
Here is the file.

Hey guys im looking to root my G1 (UK) am i safe to do it even though ive recently updated and my build number is CRC1? im really wanting my phone to appear to have the hero interface so am i correct in thinking that i just need to root it, apply Cyanogen's Recovery and then run the latest JAChero ROM? thanks - Adam
You'll have to downgrade to RC7, then root, then update your radio, then update your SPL, then update your ROM.

You can go ahead and format your SD card, there is nothing on there that gives root "permissions". Make sure you only format the FAT32 partition though and not the EXT partition because you will lose Apps 2 SD if you did that step already. If you didn't partition your SD card yet in preparation for your Hero build, and have no idea what I'm talking about, you can still format it and not lose root or ROMS lol
I have a crc1 version, but i don't know which version if UE or US. Immagine US because is from there. The procedure is the normal one, installing the RC29 or RC7? Which one of thos i have to install, the RC29 or the RC7?

hey guys i'm trying to root my phone first time
i've moved DREAIMG.NBH, recovery.img and update.zip to sd card and then turn off my phone. Then i hold camera button and press power button to entry bootloader mode and i got the message checking.......and then "not allowed"
where's the problem,
i have CRC1 firmware 1.5, Germany T-mobile
^ try doing the .nbh file by itself first, on your SD card that is formatted to Fat32. Then reboot, delete this file from your SD, then add the other files to the SD card. Follow the guide, it will not fail you.
with that said, you should find cyanogens image file... it is pretty awesome. ver 1.4.
nothing again,
i did as you said and again i've got messag. when reboot "not allow"
here is spec:
DREA110 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.96.0000
CPLD-4

did you get the correct .nbh file (RC29 is for the US only, RC7 is for the UK)
Did you format your SD card using your computer to FAT32?
Did you copy the correct .nbh file to the SD card (that was blank... no folders, nothing on it)?

Just saw the other info you posted... have you already installed the new radio and SPL? I do not know if the order of things matter.... but it does not follow the instructions for rooting. If you have already done that, you may need to look for the more experienced people on here to chime in.

Hello Xda-Developers..
Well to make a very very long story short.. I got major phone problems. It started when I decided to Mod. My phone and followed a guide on Youtube to Mod/Jailbreak your phone. And I must admit it worked.. But it took a toll on me. Ok this is exactly what I did.. I moved the Dreamin.nbh file into my SD card.. Held down the Power + Camera button and everything seemed ok. Basically I followed everything step by step and it worked ok.. When I was finished rooting it I installed Jfrek-Rc33 followed the steps to do that.. When I got it on I was very excited.. after. While of reading about it I decided to go and get my old Apps back on my phone.. I went on the market and I couldn't find any of them.. I looked into downloading it online and I still couldn't... Did I do something wrong?? I looked around and didn't find anyone with this problem. I am now running RC-29... so where do I go from here =(... I'm regreting doin this -cries-
PROBLEM SOLVED
How did i solve my problem...?
1. When i modded my phone i rooted it normally and installed a version of JF-RC33.. Turns out this version wasn't compatible with the Market and i could not see a bunch of apps that i previously had with no problem.. So i downgraded to RC29 again and re-rooted my phone following This Guide.
2. After i followed that guide i installed CyanogenMod V4.0.4 Witch turned out to be pretty awesome.. And exactly what i was looking for.
3. Fingerlickin asked me to install a recovery but i had no idea.. What this "recovery" would do.. Until he explained a little and its actually something like a windows restore point just for your G1 witch you can get by following this guide and its majorly recommended.. .
Note: I didn't really understand the Recovery guide.. Until Fingerlickin guided me step by step.. (lol) With the installation of CyanogenMod you should have an APP called Terminal Emulator.. Click on it.. And type SU and hit enter. After that it should ask you if you want to allow this and just hit "Allow" When you move on the next screen type flash_image recovery /sdcard/cm-recovery-1.4.img and hit enter again. Next hit home and reboot in recovery mode by hitting Home + Power button... and there should be a couple of options different than before and just hit ALT + B or scroll to "nandroid backup". And tada! you created a restore point =)
4. Next i installed the RaDio from This website this "radio" is pretty much the "drivers" for your phone.. .. Anyways after installing the recovery you can install zip files into your phone without renaming them.. So just download that file put it into your SD card and turn your phone off.. Turn it on in recovery mode (home+power) and hit Alt + A or scroll down to "apply any zip from sd" and there you go! got your Radio on and you should be all set =)
So following those steps is how i fixed my problem.. Of course thanks to Fingerlickin for his awesome patience with me lol.. as you can tell. Hopefully someone uses this little guide i put together and if they have the same problem they now have something to turn to for a solution =D. Thanks again to Fingerlickin.
.. OK bye now. *walks out and closes the door*
going back to rc29 removed you root, follow the root process again but instead of installing JF, use cyanogen 4.0.4 (stable) when you're done we can look into what ever problem you are having with the market which I am unclear what that problem is at this point but it doesn't matter.
Sorry to be soo uninformed about this.. But by reroot do you mean download Telnet + Terminal Emulator.. And do that process again? But right now while running Rc29 I have the Wifi tether for root users.. and its working wouldn't that mean that I do have root?.. Just wondering >.<
As long as you keep using RC29 you have root.

i have heard that google has had the exploit long since patched, but that it is up to the carriers to send out the update. it will mostly be done away with when donut is released.
since he was running a JF ROM he would be able to do the one-click-root, but david and neoblade is right I've heard alot of people with new phones say it doesn't work.
Cyanogen has also patched it in his ROM's.
I didn't realize carriers already sent out the OTA's. Last I heard was that it would be sent along with donut like david mentioned
solved!!!!
You lost root when you rolled back to rc 29. You'll need to redo the process.
Yep just like he said. When you reload RC29 you lose root.
Yes I know I lost root not worried about that. My phone will not let me install in apk. From the market or the internet. I can down load them but not install them
any ideas
let me clear stuff up. i know i lost root im not trying to flash anything to my phone. ( i have rooted 3 different g1s several times and a couple of different ways i have good idea how this works i think)
i cant install any application on my phone!
i am getting a installation unsuccessful error with all .apks on rc 29.
also this mean i can not get root back do the fact i cant telnet or run any third party app.
so my phone i stuck in original stock hell.

Hey guys,
First of all, thank you for spending time on reading this thread, I really need your help.
I wanted to root my phone (G1) etc. etc. So I downgraded it but didn't like it at all! So I descided to move back up again (latest software version).
I spent hours on the internet searching for software, firmware etc. And I managed to set my phone to RC33 and firmware version 1.1 ... Now my phone is not what it used to be, I guess firmware version 1.1 is kinda old isn't it? Strange enough my phone says it already is fully up to date...
So my question is; could you guys help me out, with getting the latest firmware/software whatever?
Thank you in advance!
Well, what you could do is: Go back to the earliest framework specified in say the cyanogenmod rom, which is RC29. Use that to flash your phone to gain root. It will be very odd looking because it the lowest thing. But then you can flash the awesomness of cyanogen onto it and you'll be good to go.
Also what you said you wanted to root it, so you downgraded. That is but the first step needed. i wouldnt want to stay there either. So yeah follow that guide and you should be on your way.
Although I will admit that it is probably the best running firmware for the G1 thus far!

So in "short" you'd advise me to:
Downgrade to RD29 *again*
Get my phone rooted
And install the cyanogenmod Rom
Is that correct? Now I don't see all the applications on the Android Market, some disappeared, will they return?
In short, yes. I know it seems odd to downgrade to upgrade. But to gain root you have to use RC29. To gain root its not too bad. you have to use RC29 to do it. You just install that. start it up. And then download the app "telnet" from the market. and then run a few commands. from there you can upgrade back up. And yes you should see everything in the market. Yeah its kinda annoying but there are some great results possible.
A more in depth set of instructions is located on the Cyanogen wiki. I cant post a direct link due to my account status but google "how to install cyanogenmod" and its about the 3rd result.

Okay, so here's what I did. I downgraded my G1 to RC29, rooted it successfully. Downloaded the latest cyanogenmod, named it setup.zip, went to recovery mode, did a factory reset and installed the setup.zip. Now my G1 won't get past the load screen (which says G1). What did I do wrong?? I can get still into recovery mode...
Thanks for the help so far!

cognition is a rom by itself. if you want to use it, you need to flash back to stock using the odin one click restore to stock and then root it, run rom manager clockwork recovery mode, then install cognition from clockwork recovery mode.
there is no way to go from 2.2 to any version of cognition without flashing the kernel back to stock
the easiest method to do this is to just flash the whole phone back to stock.
