So, I'm new to this - Palm Treo 750 ROM Development

I see all these awesome "ROM's" and firmwares I'd like to have on my phone..and I download them, but I don't know how to install them on my phone.
I'm still running WM 5
Please help!!

anybody help a n00b out? WM5 sucks lol

First, you wanna get Hard-SPL (or HSPL). This allows you to get custom ROMS. Follow this great tutorial by navenedrob here. It will unbrand, unlock, and get HSPL on your phone.
Afterward, take a memory card and format it into FAT32 format. Add the .nbh file to your memory card.
Insert the memory card into your phone and hold down the media button (the one below the volume rocker) and press the reset button (the one next to the memory card slot) with the stylus. This will take you to the bootloader. Press the end key (power button) to start the update. Once the update is done, reset the device.
I would recommend this ROM from navenedrob. It is WM 6.5 and very stable. He is making a new one, but it still has bugs. To get the ROM go here.

Thanks so much! I'm gonna need to buy a memory card for it and then I'll continue on and post here if I have any further questions. Thanks again.

Remember to get an SD card. Not SDHC. Our phone only has a max of 2 GB.

Remember SDHC works but not for flashing I have 4GB microSDHC with adapter which runs fine..

Ya I know but he is talking about flashing to a new ROM.

So the problem is with using SDHC for flashing ROMS, nothing to do with microSD right?
I do have a 1GB microSD with SD adapter and been trying to flash a new ROM for a couple of days with no success.
CheetahUnlocker runs fine for the first 2 steps, but when booting the phone in bootloader with the SD card and a CHEEIMG.NBH file on it, it will not flash the rom ever...

Problem while upgrading ROM

Hi Experts
I just bought new Xperia, updated it via SE software, but it seems to be so slow, so thinking to upgrade the ROM. From the Forum i found this ROM to be the fastest one from user's opinion EnergyROM_KOVSKY_20090805_Standard.
Now the problem is when i try to upgrade the ROM i am not successful in it. I read the procedure from ROM upgrade but failed several time. The procedure i followed after reading from the forum is as under.
1. Downloaded X1_HardSPL file and run on the PC, while Xperia is connected to the PC.
2. Formatted my SD card and put the KOVSIMG.nbh file on the SD card.
3. Disconnect the phne from PC, inserted the SD card into mobile.
4. Took the battery out of the mobile, insert it back and try to start it by pressing volume down key & start power up button, and my mobile can be starting in the 4 colour mode, and showing loading option.
But after that it just hang and do not move further, i waited for 15 min, but it do not move further or show any progress bar.
I am feeling disappointed with Xperia as windows 6.1 in my xperia seems to be very slow. Let mention i earlier use SE P990i, and it was really working at double the speed of Xperia.
Any help will be really appreciated

seems you are doing it right. Hard SPL, check if the version is right after you do the hardSPL as described here. It is not 0.52 now, there was some update but well, you get the idea.
That's done, continue to use the SD card method. you do not have to format your SD card. The nbh file just need to be correctly named and place at the root of the SD card.
The video tutorial may be more helpful in guiding. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=497511
At your step 4, the loading should be instant and ask you if you want to update. That's where you press the power button again and let it update with the custom ROM.

Slightly updated HardSPL

while making ROMs for my MTeoR, i have to re-flash it often.
One (firstly looked like minor) issue was bothering me more and more: SPL sticks at start if SDHC card is in slot. So, everytime i want to re-flash my MTeoR, i have to remove card first and after finishing, i have to insert it again because my customizer reads initial configuration from card.
that's why i made modification for HardSPL.
Now, SPL tries for SD card about 2 seconds and give up if can't and continues to USB mode. Thus, you don't need to remove SDHC card anymore.
i've used hardSPL 7.77.4PDA.
before flash HardSPL, make sure your SPL is 1.10 or hardSPL 7.77.4PDA.
Read Wiki and Breeze forum for more hardSPL info if you're not familiar with it.
I'm not responsible for any damage or brick of your phone. You are doing it for your own risk!
so, to update to this hardSPL:
1) format SD card (2GB or less! 4gb and bigger are not suitable!) with FAT/FAT32
2) copy BREEIMG.hbh to the root of SD card and insert this card to the phone.
3) copy rest files from this archive to root of your phone.
4) start spl.lnk and then imidiately press and hold power + camera buttons
5) phone will switch to softSPL and will start to flash. Since BREEIMG.nbl is small, process will take just couple seconds.
if everything will go right, you will get updated hardSPL.
Turn off phone. Press and hold camera + power button - you should see SPL v8.88.SORG.

TREO 750 "beta testing expired"

Hi, this is my first post on this forum and i'm hoping to get some help to solve my problem.
I have an unlocked ATT treo 750 that i'm currently using with T-Mobile. I was happily running windows 5 and decided to try this new windows mobile 6.5 so i downloaded the rom from a thread on this forum and i ran the update process while my phone was connected to windows zync porgram, so it worked fine, but as soon as i rebooted my phone to the new windows 6.5 it gave me the
"This concludes de beta test of this software release...." now i try to reconnect my phone to my pc to zync and flash another rom but i won't recognize the connection.
what can i do, i know there is a way to flash a rom using your mini sd card but i'm not sure about this process....tell me if i have it right:
1. format your mini sd card using fat32, using a computer with a card reader (i can't format it using my phone cause of ovious reasons)
2. copy the rom image to the mini sd card on the root folder. the rom image should be in .nbh format. (i have a rom called CHEEIMG.nbh by Navenedrob)
3. re-insert the mini sd cad to the phone.....I DONT KNOW WHAT DO AFTER THIS, and what do you mean by HARD SPL or SPL... is it a file i should copy along with the CHEEIMG.nbh file in the mini sd card????
PLEASE HELP ME.. what buttons do i press on my treo 750 to trigger installation...?????
thanks

Hi,
I'm sorry, I wrote that tutorial for people who couldn't use HARD SPL (A piece of software that lets you flash the phone) to get Windows Mobile 6.5.
Try formatting the memory card to FAT32 using a card reader, then from your computer, download the ROM here and paste it onto your memory card (ROM Link- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=541417 ).
Load the memory card into the phone.
Where you've just loaded the memory card, there is a Reset button. It's tiny, and its located where the memory card slot is.
On the other side of the phone is the Media Button. It's the one below the volume buttons. Hold this button down and press the Reset key with your stylus.
The screen should load into the "Bootloader" mode and try to scan your memory card. If it recognises the CHEEIMG.NBH file, it will ask you to press the Call End key and then go on installing itself (I hope).
After saying all this, please note that I'm not an expert and had to experiment. I didn't however brick my phone with a Beta release so I'm giving you this in the hopes that it will work.
Just make sure you have the CHEEIMG.NBH file. It may have a different filename (anything that comes before .nbh), you just have to rename it.
Secondly make sure your card is formatted to FAT32. Google it if you don't understand or if you don't know how. I use a mac so formatting is easy.
Thirdly, familiarize yourself with starting up in Bootloader mode.
Have a play, I hope this helps.

Image file not being recognized [HardSPL installed and confirmed]

After all of my other problems... HardSPL is finally on correctly and I checked.
I have Kovsimg.nbh on my FAT 32 microSDHC card. I got to bootloader, saw OliNex whatever. It goes to loading. Then "Image not found!"
Had this problem before with official ROMs as well... Had to use SEUS.
What the hell is the problem with this?
My USB port has been unreliable so far, so I dont want to chance using CustomRUU (I dont know how to use it anyway).

Custom RUU is easy. Just leave your phone on and plugged into the USB. Make sure you have the image file renamed to RUU_signed.nbh. Start Custom RUU. Follow the steps in Custom RUU. And Voila! It turns the phone into the Boot Loader automatically and you can watch the progress on your monitor. I use it all the time. I don't like to copy everything off my SD card onto the HDD and I don't have a spare SD card to leave the SD card blank with only the image file.
You don't have to copy everything off your sd card, just put Kovsimg.nbh in the root of your card and everything is good to go.
Copy your .nbh file to the root of your sd card and rename it to Kovsimg.nbh.
Boot phone with holding : vol down + power keys until the color screen appears.
it should find the image now, else use ruu on a friends pc.
remember to active sync first...
regards
I dont have a Kingston card, but maybe I'll try using my Corsair 512mb microSD later today.
My main problem with CustomRUU is that the USB connection to my phone isnt stable. What would happen if it suddenly DC'd?
EDIT: Ahah, so using my Corsair card instead of my A-Data card works.

You have had problems with the USB Connection to your X1 before? Then dont flash via USB / Custom RUU. Thats really too risky then.
It first flashes the Bootsector and a few other things, then begins with the OS parts. If the connection is cancelled while flashing the Bootsector etc. you may get some serious problems as your device wont boot anymore (search for putty btw. if this happens to you).
When there is an Error while the OS is updating you can flash again. I had this once with a non-clear sdcard that the installation did not go over 99%. A reflash with a clear card worked without problems.

Can we flash from an sd card on the Blackstone?

I looked and can not find things mentioning via sd card only via PC. If I am wrong, I am sorry but I didn't find it. Could you attach a link to where it mentions it? What do I name the .nbh?
Yes you can, the image needs to be called BLACIMG.NBH
and you need hspl on youre phone and the mem formatted to fat 32:-o

I just received it today from ebay, does this seem to be already for me to flash it?
It has 6.1 installed
Bootloader screen says
BLAC100 32M
SPL-1.56.OliNex
MicroP-BlackStone (LED) v6
Bootloader says "No Image File"
I have the BLACIMG.nbh file on my 1GB card and it's not loading it. I have done it the same way on my HTC Jade multiple times with the same sd card.
I TRIED WITH ANOTHER ROM AND IT WORKED JUST FINE. I don't know what was wrong with the other one but Thanks for everyone's help.
I'm afraid you're not following the right procedure. This should do the job.
1. Copy BLACIMG.NBH into the root dir of your Storage Card.
2. Be sure to have at least 30% of charge.
3. Turn off your device . Fully power the device off by long press of power key.
4. Go to bootloader mode. Push and hold Vol Down + press Power button.
5. As soon as presented the message, push Power button to start flashing or Volume Down button to cancel.
6. The whole procedure will take about 3 minutes. After you finish and see the relative message, soft reset your device, you are ready.
Make sure you formatted your sd-card.
To enter Bootloader, starting from powered off phone, hold down volumebutton and briefly press powerbutton.
You can also always use the "search" funtion on the forum startpage. Topbar (brown) on the right side.
It's recommendable to hardreset your device after flashing.
Good luck.

I got it to work just fine I used another ROM and it worked just fine. I have also had success with my JADE with no problem. I edited the post before stating what I did to get it to load successfully. Thank You for the assistance though, that is a easy step by step tutorial of how to perform the flash from sd.
