Manually Installed dowloaded apps - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm customized my own rom with apps peviously get from market (Premiere, Dizzler, Vingtminutes, better terminal etc...)
Some of them are already in apk format, some others ( like Prermiere) are in zip format.
As I know that the apk and the zip format are quite the same I just renamed the zip to apk.
But after the reflashing the old zip files where not installed.
So I opened them to see that the folder META was not present. So I try re-signed them with the signapk pak, but the result is the same .
Can you help please?
Bye
Herc.

Need help installing apps from zip file

When I look in my sdcard, some of the apps that I've backed up end up as zip files. According to search, I should be able to just rename it from .zip to .apk
I did that, and tried to install, but it keeps giving me a warning that says this app cannot be installed on the phone.
Why? and how can I fix this so I can install these apps back?
Thanks
maybe because changing extension names on files makes them unstable. look in app private. im sure the zips came from the apps folder it happens like i said look in appsprivate folder

[Q] Integrating a language with a ROM .zip?

Hi,
I have a ROM, for example Enomther's. and I also have the arabic language libs. how can I integrate the arabic libs into the ROM's zip file so I don't have to flash another zip for arabic libs? I have attached the arabic libs.
Bump! anyone?
Come on, what kind of answer do you expect?
Here's the answer: you need to substitute the files in the original ROM zip and resign it - that's it.
Now you're going to ask, how to do it, because you have no clue - and the explanation is a lot of work to try and put in one post, and setting up signing applications involves installing Java SDK and some knowledge. If you're asking the question you're asking - it seems like you're far from being skilled enough in Android depths to do what you're asking to do, and that's why you see no answer. After all, if you'd want to do it - you'd have to search anyway, Google "sign apk zip" and here you go, a lot of tutorials show up. And if you didn't search and posted instead - it speaks for itself.
By the way, there's no good reason to integrate the libs into a standard ROM, moreover - it's a bad idea. ROMs tend to be updated, and the work that needs to be done setting up the environment for signing APKs and ZIPs is way more than flashing one update right after updating the ROM to a newer version. And ROMs are updated quite often.
Yeah i'm not skilled. I'm trying to learn... I am trying to make my own customized ROM for my country's users. And I didn't mean editing ROM files, I was saying how to push the lib into the ROM zip so people don't have to flash the arabic zip lib when they flash my customized ROM. So I hope you haven't missunderstood my question...
Ah, I see, you want to customize and share the ROM. In that case, you have to have the setup I'm talking about. The update.zip contains folders and files, which directly replace the files in the same folders in ROM, so if you have a ROM zip - you need to replace those files. The easiest way would be just extracting your update.zip, opening a ROM zip in 7zip / WinZip / WinRar / etc, putting those extracted files from update.zip in the right place into ROM zip by drag-and-drop, and then resigning the ROM file.
Please do some googling as to how to sign ZIP and APK files. There are some pretty good tutorials.
I have done that before, and I replaced the lib file with the ROM default lib. it's libskia.so, but I think because I didn't know I have to sign it it gave me an error while flashing through recovery. so after I replace the lib I have to re-compress the file and then sign the zip right?
You don't have to re-compress if you replace the file without decompressing the original ROM archive, by dragging-and-dropping the file into the archive.
And yes, you have to re-sign the ZIP after any changes you make to anything inside it.

[theming help] Genie widget flashable.zip

hi I need some help with theming:
im having a hard time with the genie widget.apk. I´ve seen elsewhere that the gw should be flashed to System/apps but that not the case with my phone. On my htc desire it should be DATA/apps and I just can´t make a flashable.zip I get an error everytime(error at line1 something). I use a zipsign tool which works fine with system/apps maybe I need another tool, which leads me to my next question:
How do I make a flashable file where I move files to SDCARD / SYSTEM / DATA ?

Alright this you will love I had same problems search for Update Zip Creator 2.0 by Daneshm90 you will love it and as far as flashing data/app/ it doesn't work you have to know how to make your update script install with permissions otherwise they just get copied in the right folder and don't work.

thats actually the tool i´m using by default , however I dont know how to make files copy over to Data/app and I also dont know how to make the zip creator move files to sdcard. I´ve only managed to use the updatezip creator to write to System/app, System/media and System/framework.
what should i do to get an update.zip with folders system / data / sdcard?
When I was trying I gave up when I would edit the generated update script I would get as syntax error what I started doing was put the data apps in a folder named Extra_apps or the theme name like Blue_Steel then tell update zip creator copy directories SDCARD then folder name and folder name again I wish I could help more but its something I'm trying to learn myself I believe w are going to have to learn to write the script manually I have asked on the update creator thread also never got an answer excuse the spelling on my phone thank god for swype..lol

Problem installing CM7 google Apps Update.zip

Hi guys , I installed CM7 Rom (from 2.1 JFD) through Rom Manager, it works good, i put update.zip on card, but ddnt put google apps .zip file.
CM7 installed correctly. when i tried to put googleAppsUpdate.zip on card (and removed th CM7Update.zip ) and restarted in recovery from rom manager , i got An Exclamation White triangle Above and Android Man Symbol. and no progress !!!
wht is wrong ?? and how can i Install google Apps update ??
I'm kind of confused here bud, but update.zip is clockwork mod not cm7. By putting the update.zip and applying it via recovery, that would have installed clockwork recovery, and from there you would have needed to install the cm7 zip via recovery to flash cm7. The Google apps zip can be downloaded through your ron manager or via cm7 server, then it needs to he flashed the same way via clockwork recovery (install zip from sdcard).

Here comes the fire!!! :-D simple beginner mistake lol
Galaxy S Vibrant CM7.1
google apps....are apps!
you can extract all the apps from the zip, and push them to system/app.
if you cant do that, try mounting system in recovery before you flash....if this was the hd2 forum, you will be hot Cheetos right now...flamed! lol

seems easy , but how exactly is system/apps ??
when i decompress the .zip i found 2 folders:
-META-INF
-system
each of , contains another files and folders , can you tell exactly where to put in details ?
thx
This belongs in the Q&A, NOT in the Vibrant Android Development

First fo all, this is in the wrong forum.
Second of all, I really believe you are probably trying to flash a version of gapps that is not correct for your device.
But either way...
The two compressed folders are
-META-INF
-system
decompress the system folder..maybe put it on your desktop or something. Inside the system folder is a series of different folders. Look for the one that is named "Apps" take that folder and place it on the root of your SDcard. Now, go back onto your phone and use Root explorer to manually move each of the apks from that app folder that you would like...and move them to system>apps. fix the permissions on the apk once you move it so that it has the same permissions as every other apk already in the folder and once you are done moving whichever apps you'd like on your phone and fixing the permissions, reboot your phone.

[Q] How to install additional .zip package to MobileOdin lite?

Ok er, noob question, but MobileOdin(lite) asks me to download added zip file for the N700. i did this, but how do I get it to install? Because it is present as a .zip file in my SD card and everytime MobOdin starts it asks to download the additional file.
Renaming it to .apk doesn't work as it gives a parsing error if I try to install it & if I extract it four different folders come out. How do I go about it then?
what are them folders ?
META-INF
System
ect ect ? ?
if so its probably a CWM flashable package.
*facepalm* noob action here. Used some other file manager but then used Astro & voila! Apk extracted and installed! Done and done!
