im having troule installin apps from my sd..i download the app from xda..it comes in a zip..do i extract the files to appmanger or how do i find the apk file?? confused..
Unzip it. APK should be in there
Sometimes people will also just change the extension from .apk to .zip so you may just have to change the file extension.
Hi,
I'm customized my own rom with apps peviously get from market (Premiere, Dizzler, Vingtminutes, better terminal etc...)
Some of them are already in apk format, some others ( like Prermiere) are in zip format.
As I know that the apk and the zip format are quite the same I just renamed the zip to apk.
But after the reflashing the old zip files where not installed.
So I opened them to see that the folder META was not present. So I try re-signed them with the signapk pak, but the result is the same .
Can you help please?
Bye

I'm still searching
Hi folks,
I have two mp3 files that I want to add to a zip file so that when I flash CM's latest nightly ROM, I can then flash this zip to add my two favourite audio files to their respective directories ie: Ringtones and Notifications.
Currently I push them usuing ADB but it would be nice to just have the zip file in the SDCARD and flash it at will. Little assistance?
TIA!
1) Download any update.zip for anything, unzip.
2) Google up "update-script", locate it in the zip.
3) Put your files in /system/media/notifications and /system/media/ringtones folders.
4) Change the update-script - googling it will tell you the instructions.
5) Zip back all the files, putting attention to keep the directory structure just as in original update.zip.
6) Google "sign zip apk", set up the environment to sign the ZIP, and sign it.
7) You're ready to flash.
To make it easier for you, I'm attaching update.zip I use for my own ringtones and notifications - so you'll only have to pack your relevant MP3s into the relevant folders. But you'll need to set up the signing environment - or use a recovery that bypasses verification completely (Amon_RA 1.8 and up).

Hi guys , I installed CM7 Rom (from 2.1 JFD) through Rom Manager, it works good, i put update.zip on card, but ddnt put google apps .zip file.
CM7 installed correctly. when i tried to put googleAppsUpdate.zip on card (and removed th CM7Update.zip ) and restarted in recovery from rom manager , i got An Exclamation White triangle Above and Android Man Symbol. and no progress !!!
wht is wrong ?? and how can i Install google Apps update ??
I'm kind of confused here bud, but update.zip is clockwork mod not cm7. By putting the update.zip and applying it via recovery, that would have installed clockwork recovery, and from there you would have needed to install the cm7 zip via recovery to flash cm7. The Google apps zip can be downloaded through your ron manager or via cm7 server, then it needs to he flashed the same way via clockwork recovery (install zip from sdcard).

Galaxy S Vibrant CM7.1
google apps....are apps!
you can extract all the apps from the zip, and push them to system/app.
if you cant do that, try mounting system in recovery before you flash....if this was the hd2 forum, you will be hot Cheetos right now...flamed! lol

when i decompress the .zip i found 2 folders:
-META-INF
-system
each of , contains another files and folders , can you tell exactly where to put in details ?
thx
This belongs in the Q&A, NOT in the Vibrant Android Development

First fo all, this is in the wrong forum.
Second of all, I really believe you are probably trying to flash a version of gapps that is not correct for your device.
But either way...
The two compressed folders are
-META-INF
-system
decompress the system folder..maybe put it on your desktop or something. Inside the system folder is a series of different folders. Look for the one that is named "Apps" take that folder and place it on the root of your SDcard. Now, go back onto your phone and use Root explorer to manually move each of the apks from that app folder that you would like...and move them to system>apps. fix the permissions on the apk once you move it so that it has the same permissions as every other apk already in the folder and once you are done moving whichever apps you'd like on your phone and fixing the permissions, reboot your phone.
THIS WILL WORK IF YOU HAVE THE STILL HAVE THE gapps ZIP FILE ON YOUR SD CARD
If you properly flash the latest CM12.1 (20160110-Nightly) and properly flashed the Gapps package. And as soon as you boot up the phone you get all these app crashes and some apps are not working here is what you do:
First: download ES File Explorer
Second: using es file explorer navigate to your sd card and find the gapps zip file that you tried to flash and open the zip file, next open the system folder.
Third: now you must open each folder and check to see if it has an apk file and download and install it too your phone
*don't worry if it doesn't show new permissions before instillation or if apps are still crashing while your do this cause after everything has installed the crashes should stop*
and the gapps package that i am using is (gapps-5.1-2015-04-20-15-56-24) if you want to be sure that it works
oh yeah and make sure you thanks me I helped
