Manually Installed dowloaded apps

Hi,
I'm customized my own rom with apps peviously get from market (Premiere, Dizzler, Vingtminutes, better terminal etc...)
Some of them are already in apk format, some others ( like Prermiere) are in zip format.
As I know that the apk and the zip format are quite the same I just renamed the zip to apk.
But after the reflashing the old zip files where not installed.
So I opened them to see that the folder META was not present. So I try re-signed them with the signapk pak, but the result is the same .
Can you help please?
Bye

Need help installing apps from zip file

When I look in my sdcard, some of the apps that I've backed up end up as zip files. According to search, I should be able to just rename it from .zip to .apk
I did that, and tried to install, but it keeps giving me a warning that says this app cannot be installed on the phone.
Why? and how can I fix this so I can install these apps back?
Thanks
maybe because changing extension names on files makes them unstable. look in app private. im sure the zips came from the apps folder it happens like i said look in appsprivate folder

Editing PNG Files within APK --Help?

Hi guys, I'm trying to edit some .apk files.
I first extract the png file that I want to edit using 7zip.
I open up the file in photoshop, edit it, then save it as a file (interlaced and non interlaced.. i tried both).
I then dump the .png back into the apk.
When I try to install the file back onto my phone, I get "*Apk file* could not be installed on this phone"
Anyone want to help me out?
How do I edit the file without it giving me this error.
Ok based on ur status im assuming ur still new to the concept of apk editing.
Theres 2 types of apks.
1. System apks (/system/app) where once u edit them u dont have to resign them. You just PUSH it back to ur phone.
2. Data apks, (/data/app) where once u edit them u have to resign the apk and install them to ur phone.
If ur on a windows machine, download apk manager from my signature and it'll guide u through the process.

You can make a copy of the apk file and change the apk to zip. After changing the file designation use your favorite unzipping program and extract the files. You should find the icons listed in one of the folders as .png files.
awesome, thanks!
there's no apk file if the pack is downloaded from the market, right? so i just have to search for icon packs in the net?
thanks, tabfreak!
Yes, even if you install from market there is an apk file. If you are rooted there are any number of programs to use to copy the file to your sd card or to a network drive. I use SystemPanel App/ Task Manager (a paid app) to backup all my apps. You can also use a free app "App Backup & Restore" to backup unprotected apps to the sd card and then access the backup from the sd card with the tab attached to your pc.
You don't need to be rooted. Use "ES File Explorer". Go to the apps. Long press the icon pack app and select "share". Then you can save the apk anywhere you want.
So to get this straight: I have to create a zip of the apk and then extract the icon files. Could that be done through the phone or is winrar necessary? And as far as zipping the apk, that could be done with any file explorer?

Rename the extension of the .apk to .zip. Then extract the zip file.
As an example for the Axis font pack:
1) Find the "base.apk" for the font pack by searching with ES Explorer at the device root level (/)
2) Copy the apk file to another folder
3) Rename "base.apk" to "axis.zip"
4) Extract the zip with the tool of your choice
5) Navigate to "<extract folder>/res/drawable-nodpi-v4" and you will see all of the icons in .png format

[Q] How to install additional .zip package to MobileOdin lite?

Ok er, noob question, but MobileOdin(lite) asks me to download added zip file for the N700. i did this, but how do I get it to install? Because it is present as a .zip file in my SD card and everytime MobOdin starts it asks to download the additional file.
Renaming it to .apk doesn't work as it gives a parsing error if I try to install it & if I extract it four different folders come out. How do I go about it then?
what are them folders ?
META-INF
System
ect ect ? ?
if so its probably a CWM flashable package.
*facepalm* noob action here. Used some other file manager but then used Astro & voila! Apk extracted and installed! Done and done!
