My boss has a G1 that is locked. He let his younger brother play with it for a while and locked it. He inputted the incorrect pattern lock several times.
Now the phone is asking for a gmail username and password. He says he does not remember his gmail username and password. i know i know...
Anyway, he needs his contacts in the phone. He is willing to pay for service or software just to get the contacts out from the phone. His phone is issued by T-Mobile and has never been flashed.
Can anybody help me with this? I tried accessing the phone with the ADSK, but I believe that the debugging option in the phone is disabled by default and I cant get through it.
Any ideas would be greatly apprecaited. Thanks.
He should just use the password recovery option that google provides on their website. He should at least remember the email address he signed up with. I'm sure he can at least think of a few possibilities. After that screen there are instructions on how to recover your password.
https://www.google.com/accounts/ForgotPasswd
You will never loose the contacts even if you do a factory reset of your phone!

Forgot Password
After you get the password, go to Gmail
Click on "Contacts" tab, and he will see anything he wants.

lol your boss shouldve use the same email username as his primary email.. i.e. i use [email protected] and [email protected]
or shouldve used his name as his gmail username.
idk how u can recover his contacts..but i know how to unlock his phone...you would have to hard reset it..
If your T-Mobile G1 Google smartphone is not responding or is frozen, you may have to opt for a hard reset. Here’s how:
1. Turn the G1 off. If it’s frozen on, take the battery out and put it back in the unit.
2. Hold the Home and Power keys down at same time for about 25 seconds. You will see a yellow triangle screen with exclamation point in the middle.
Now to wipe the device clean:
3. Press Alt+L.
4. Press Alt+W for a factory reset.
5. Press the Home and Back keys again for about 25 seconds.
The device should then reset again and the hard reset is complete.
and his contacts should already be synced up to his gmail account.
his contacts being synced with his gmail account dosnt help if he dosnt know the password. but if he does know the password he can view them in his gmail account and dosnt need the phone at all. so resetting the phone wont get him any closer to his contacts.

resetting phone will at least unlock his phone and if the boss's sim card came froma previous phone there is a possibility of his old contacts being saved in the sim card.
if he listed a secondary email account during sign up then he can access he username and password recovery
if there is no secondary email account then the only option is to track down people he sent emails to. preferably friends and coworkers and try to find out his username like that.

is it possible to just remove the entry for "Outlook email" from showing up in the drop down list in the messaging screen?
I have
GMail
Outlook E-mail
Text/Multimedia
Tigermail
but I would like Outlook to not even show up on that list? Is there anywhere in the registry it can be removed? I don't want to uninstall it, just make it not appear in that menu.
Thank you!!

yes you can do that... all you need to do is go into your active sync and go to sync options and uncheck all the section that have email.
That didn't work. I still have Outlook in the menu

Looks the same as the screen shot on my Wing.
If you actually use Outlook, it probably won't clear until you remove evrything in it. Just a hunch, I have no factual data for my guess. I was able to remove from ActiveSync, but I never used it.

When I am in messaging there is a drop down option which has all the different accounts. I was a little thrown off by the picture at first too.
there is nothing in Outlook. I've never used it, never touched it... nothing in there at all.
I was able to get the Outlook account to disappear from my Messaging account list by renaming the registry key :
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Svc\ActiveSync
to
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Svc\ActiveSyncx

by doing this, you will lose the capability to hear a sound when you receive a text message.
Yes, I also lost the notification sounds. A less than ideal situation.
Doing this didn't remove "outlook" from my messaging ... it only literally renamed it in the folder list ... so know it just shows up in the list as whatever new name it was renamed to
Anyone have any new info on this by any chance?
If there is a way to do it i would like to know as well, i never use outlook and it takes up unnecessery space...
yeah, I think it's annoying as hell in the messaging list.
it would be nice if we could figure out how to make it simply just not show up. There has to be some really simple way to suppress it.
Bringing this back up to see if there is a solution yet.
When First syncing my phone I had the email checked to sync and Outlook showed up. I had to clear storage on my phone and when I set up the new partnership, making sure email wasnt checked, Outlook is no longer in my options. I dont know if this is ideal for you for the risk of resetting to the defaults, but thats the only way I know to get rid of it.

Is it just after syncing or when you first set up the sync partnership? Because as you are setting up the partnership, if it is checked, it wont go away later (ie unchecking during a sync).
I'm running out of ideas on how to fix this bug...
When i try to Add a Google Account it gives me this error message.
"Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server"

The error is misleading as it has nothing to do with connections, i tried on 3G/H and WiFi, and simply because the phone sync just fine all the other google accounts in the phone, and can download/upload stuff without any connection error, Android Market and Apps Brain works fine as well.
before it was working fine i was able to add like 5+ accounts in there, i were able to delete and re-add accounts, but the last few days it has been unable to do that, due that error message.
but if i add the same account that worked, or those that failed on another SGS factory reset, then it works fine.
problem is.... i don't really want to re-install my 200+ apps in the phone....
I already tried wipe-ing the caches, it didn't help.
Any body else got a clue what else we can delete to reset the google accounts in the phone?
no body have seen this before?
Never had this problem but you can try to go to Settings> Applications > Manage Apps and find those from google and press clear cache and clear data

i did mentioned, it has already been done on the original message and it still gets that error message.
i even tried this app
CacheCleaner
http://www.appbrain.com/app/org.lsartory.cachecleaner
it fixed up a lot of other stuff but not gmail accounts...
Got the same problem...even tried a factory reset and it still won't let me sign into my google account on the market.
Doing my head in now.
Logicalstep
I had that issue when I first tried to setup my account. I took out the SIM and just used WIFI to sign in and it worked.
Or you can try this:
1. adb remount
2. adb shell
3. su
4. rm /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db

I believe the above method will reset your home screens or something, so use at your own discretion. Details can be found here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=3477
ahh no, what that does is deletes
settings.db
from
com.android.providers.settings
it might work, but that will sucks as i'll have to reconfigure all the accounts again, doing that will delete all the accounts that are currently working.
the only time i had that issue i solved it by making sure that background data and auto-sync were checked in the general sync settings. without them being checked i could not add an account over wifi or cellular data. as soon as i checked those boxes i was back to normal
all my 7 other accounts are checked to sync everything
i'm trying to add a new account but it's giving me that weird error
even if delete an exisiting working account and try to re-add it back, then it gives me the same error
it definitely might have to do with the settings file getting corrupted or something
Have had the same problem and exact same messgae yesterday after I wiped my device. It wasnt until evening that I was able to log into my Google account and that was after doing another wipe form the phone settings instead of doing through the 3 button reset. Eveything works fine now but still can't understand why this happened.
I had the same problem yesterday, wiped using the 3 button and problem persisted. Wiped from device and now it works ;D

Same problem for me. I am trying to add a Google apps account and get this message.
Planning a full wipe with froyo so will try a device wipe instead of a Recovery Wipe
cheers

i'm also waiting for the froyo uprade
since froyo will delete everything, i might as well wait until then
not fun having to click OK install 410+ apps+games (that's around 800+ clicks ok to continue)
found the source of the problem
this will work fine as long as you DO NOT INSTALL the Samsung Push Email & IM from Samsung Apps
just recently i had to format my phone twice for software bugs when testing out new features in newly installed software
and both times i was able to add any amount of Gmail accounts i wanted into the phone, until i install the Samsung Push Email & IM, as soon as i do that, i lose the funtionality to add more gmail accounts into the phone.
The solution it's obvious, don't install Samsung Push Email & IM... if you want o be able to have the full feature gmail account added to the phone.
it's sad, as the Samsung Push Email & IM works really really good for IM and multi email accounts and you get it right as they arrive to gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc.
now i'm looking for 3rd party email and IM programs to replace Samsung Push Email & IM
i'll most likely go back to Fring and K9 until i can find something better

I had two gmail accounts synced. I deleted one by accident, and when I tried to re-add my gmail account under gmail or settings (under accounts and sync) it would hang and give me the same error message as you. It wouldn't connect to Google even though my connection was fine. I did some research, and apparently it's not an uncommon problem. The workaround that exits is to register your Google account through your YouTube app, after which your gmail for that account will be synced now. Try it, it worked for me.

hello guys, i'm having this problem as well. I noticed the thread is tagged [SOLVED] but i cannot see how this problem is solved?
I'm trying how to figure out how I can permanently log out of Google Chat (not appear idle) or at least have the option to stay invisible. Ever since I upgraded to the Moto X, I get the following notification on the left bar of my gmail:
"Oops! You are not invisible because you're logged into Google Talk from another client, device, or location that doesn't support invisibility."
Previous suggestions (with other android phones) has shown that I can simply disable the 'Talk' app. However, that particular app does not appear on the Moto X. I've also tried disabling the 'Hangouts' app, yet I still appear idle even when I sign out.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Do you have GMail open on a desktop or Google+? You might be showing idle since you'd be logged in on your browser then.
Even when I'm logged out on my desktop, I still appear idle (yellow) on a colleagues computer. I guess my bigger issue is that prior to getting the Moto X - I never had to log out, as I could stay invisible.
Perhaps, I'll try to disable Google+ as well.
On my GMail, for chat if I click on my username there is a "Sign Out of Hangouts" option. You may need to do that in GMail and on Google+ to be actually offline.

[Fixed] The ‘always online’ problem with Google Chat
In short, this is the problem: You try to go invisible in chat from your gmail and it says: “Oops! You are not invisible because you’re logged into Google Talk from another client, device, or location that doesn’t support invisibility.” No matter what you do – from signing out of all the devices/clients/locations to resetting your google account password, you STILL see the ‘oops’!
Frustrating. To the core!
Turns out that there are a number of reasons why your chat suddenly behaves this way. But the main point is that there is another (or are many other) session(s) of your chat active at that particular time. This spooky session(s) might be from a talk app on your mobile phone, the Hangout app, stand-alone Gtalk software, IM clients such as eBuddy, Trillian, etc. The idea is to end those invisible session(s), but you have no idea where that session is, right?
Don’t worry, there is a way to find that and it takes as much time as it will take you to download around 9Mb.
So, here are the steps:
1. Go ahead download pidgin, a third-party IM client and install it. We will use this client find out and force sign-out those ‘ghosts’ of your Gtalk!
2. Run the program after you install it. You will be asked to ‘Add‘ an account. Click it and select Google Talk from the drop-down menu and enter your gmail credentials. See the pic below:
{

}
Sign-in with your gmail credentials
Sign-in with your gmail credentials
3. A successful sign-in will take you to the client and you will be able to see your contact list (called as Buddy list in pidgin)
4. Click on ‘Buddies‘ and select ‘Get user info‘ or you can just press Ctrl+I. This will give you a pop-up window as shown below. Type your gmail address in it and click OK.
Enter your Gmail id
5. Wait for sometime while it fetches the information for you. Once it is done, you should see a window like the one below:
Enter your gmail id
As you can see, this account has currently got 3 active session running (including the one from pidgin). Note the IDs given for the “Resource” entry. Copy the whole content into a notepad/word file. All these IDs indicate a specific device/client in which google talk is active.
6. Now Close this window. Click ‘Manage Accounts‘ and then select your account and delete it.
7. Now, repeat the ‘add account‘ process given in step 2. This time in addition to your gmail user name and password, give the ‘resource id‘ in the ‘Resource‘ section. Sign-in
8. Now, once you are in the main window of the application, set your status as ‘Offline’. Sign into gmail and try to set your status as invisible. If you are not getting the ‘oops…’ message, then you have done it! If you are sill getting it,then follow the above step with the other resource ids that you have seen (which you should have copied into the notepad/word file). Try them one-by-one till you are able to set your status as invisible in gmail chat.
That should do it!
Thanks to Keith for this helpful suggestion.

Did you try to delete the account from pidgin after figuring out the resource id that was being used? Once you log into pidgin with your resource id, go offline and close the app but do not delete the account from pidgin itself. This way, the resource id is locked in use by pidgin and it has forced an offline state for that session. The moment you delete the account, the ghost session goes live again on some server.
MessagingA = Android
MessagingB = iOS
In my case, I deleted the Hangouts app from my ipad without signing out.

Looks like you encrypted your Chrome Sync with a Sync password. It is different from your google password.
If you do not remember your sync password, look here for help: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/2390059#resetsync
I believe that I resolved my issue as follows:
I remembered my old password and tried that. It worked. I have not had any notifications for over 2 hours. Before I would constantly get the notification.
Don't ask why I tried my old password. I just did. I know that I use a new password and have been using it for over 1 year on Gmail, Google, etc. Hope you can resolve yours, too.

Good luck
Hello, a friend of mine gave me his mi 9t pro because he broke his screen and I replaced it today
It was on global stable and he hasn't changed anything from stock.
I need to bypass his mi account password in order to factory reset, unlock bootloader and flash custom roms, because he doesn't remember neither the password nor the username (email) he used creating it. We tried with his phone number and his primary email (they are connected apparently) but this was for another account, probably on his previous phone redmi note 5 pro. We tried with two other possible emails but there wasn't any account associated with them. He hasn't changed phone number, so it has to be a different email.
In the "forgot password" page it needs an email or a phone number. Is there a way to get it from his mi id?
Or is there any safe way to bypass mi account? I read some guides with mi account unlock tool.
Currently the phone is working as I set my fingerprint, so I don't want to mess that up, but he needs his privacy and I need the freedom to flash whatever rom I want.
So please share if you have any ideas.
Edit: I figured that I could use mi id In the "forgot password" page, but it asks me for a recovery phone. If I enter his mobile number, it says that this number is used for another mi account. And If I put mine it would associate my phone number to his account, which we don't want that.
Didn't use MIUI longer than the unlock wait period, so don't know if there's anything more you can do as things are, within MIUI.
If you used your number for the recovery phone number, in theory, your friend 'should' be able to edit his Mi account afterwards to delete your phone number from his account. Again it's been a long time since I had anything to do with MIUI and Mi accounts, so don't take that as absolute.
Depending on where you are. If there's a Xiaomi centre nearby you could ask them to factory reset the phone. Your friend might need to persuade them the phone is genuinely his and explain he needs to do this as he wants to give the phone to someone else and he's forgot Mi account details.
If this is not an option, then EDL flashing is another option. It requires removing the back to access the test pins near the battery, to put the phone in EDL mode. You can easily find videos showing how to do this. After that you will need someone with an authorised account to remote on to your PC in order to flash the phone. If I remember correctly, they could also leave the phone unlocked after flashing, saving you the hassle of doing this yourself.
Expect to be charged between US $20 - $40 for someone to do this. I don't have details of anyone who can do this, and it's against XDA rules to 'promote' paid services, with mods clamping down and deleting posts with contact details of anyone that can do this. Therefore the best option is to ask on the Mi 9T Pro/K20 Pro telegram group, you should get contact details easily and quickly on there.
Thanks for the detailed answer.
Yeah someone on telegram group already suggested me to go to a service center. I will ask them to see If it's possible and what do they need, but it's not very close to me and I thought asking for alternatives first.
That's a no for me, I am not gonna pay for something illegal.
My friend told me he remembered that a friend of his set it up. So maybe he knows what credentials he used.
His friend said that probably logged in with google, but these credentials don't work and in Settings/Mi Account/Accounts google and fb are not connected. So we are stuck with "restore security info".

"Forgot password" using mi ID.
This is what I am asking. What recovery phone should I use here? With my friend's one says that it's associated with another mi account. Then what about device info and account activity? Do you know what that might be? Maybe I have to ask him for his sim card and reconnect to his google account.
We don't want to do anything stupid to lock the phone, because it's currently useable as I said. He just needs his privacy and I want to flash some custom rom especially when the MIUI updates stop.
Solution: I didn't manage to verify my identity with restore security info (I am not sure why). What I did was to log in via qr code from the phone (settings/mi account) to xiaomi cloud and then add a recovery phone number/email. I tried before with the same way on mi account directly, but password was required again to add recovery info.
