Hopefully there is someone out there who is smart enough to fix my issue!
I have a htc G1 rooted running the latest Cyanogen rom and i have a SanDisk micor sdhc 8GB class 6 card. Ok my issue: It seems like for the past 5 or more roms that cyanogen has put out every now in then when i go from like say a game or contacts to the home screen it lags for say 5 sec. During this lag i notice that my icons are visible on the homescreen but the widgets are missing and i only have like 3 widgets on the screen. I dont know if my SD card has taken a crap or what? Please help

You were doing something that was memory intensive, gmaes (especially 3d) tend to do that. They used up too much memory sot the system pushed the home out of memory. When you go home that means it has to reload everything, hence the lag

@ Op, if your playing a game on i dont know, Xbox or Ps3 when you exit wouldn't be slower then lets exiting the browser or being in a chat?
Similar on Pc, closing browser is quicker then exiting a game like crysis or maybe flashpoint.

Well if you don't play to many 3d games, then I would suggest using it. It takes away from the graphics to add 7.5mb more of memory for apps
i once had this issue (slowness, lagging), and i did the following, now the device is zippier and faster than ever:
Decide to do a complete make-over (reflashing the ROM)
0. backup your apps & files, copy SD to harddrive, in order not to lose data
1. reboot into recovery screen, WIPE
2. flash the ROM, reboot, flash the theme you like (and that fits to the ROM), reboot, flash AdvancedLauncher 2.1 if you like (i use it for its certain functions), reboot
3. if you can live without 3D-games, you can use the 10MB RAM-hack; in terminal emulator flash RAM-Hack image (boot.img) (IMPORTANT: it needs to be the boot image that fits to your ROM!
3. reboot
4. reboot recovery; in console or adb shell: fix_permissions
5. reboot
6. install "user.conf Creator" app, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS (inside the app), open it and:
--> enable permission_fix
--> enable compcache (i use 64MB)
--> enable ccbackinswap (i use swappiness 50)
--> enable linux-swap (my linux-swap partition is 128MB; i use swappiness 50)
--> backup files
--> push files
--> reboot
(i experimented with different "swappiness" values, 50 worked out best for me, but it may be different for you. at swappiness 80 loading of apps is really fast, but scrolling and going back to home screen is really slow. 50 seems a good middle value.)
7. done
this can easily take up to 1 hour. After applying user.conf it may take a while on first reboot until the phone is fully loaded, but it's well worth the effort.
i also use SetCPU, to set CPU clock to 528/528 when charging, 384/245 when sleeping, and 128/128 when power <10%
good luck
So i just purchased a htc hero about a week ago and i'm having some problems.
1) phone lags really bad i thought maybe cause i had music on my sd card or a few apps but after deleting them it lags just as bad. Is there any way to end the lag or is that just the way the phone is?
2) track ball, menu, home buttons, etc.. do not light up all the time or will randomly flash.
3) I have been reading about rooting the phone, but have the Build # 2.27.651.6 and read that i have to downgrade to the .5, but i have no idea how to back up all my information(numbers, pictures, media etc..)
I would extremly apperciate any help that anyone can provide, Because this is the first " smart phone" i have ever purchased and i'm really forward to being able to root the from and do things i never knew a phone could do.
2. The lights are based on the light sensor. You block the light getting to it and the trackball, LEDs, etc light up.
3.
Numbers: you can either download HTC Sync here http://www.htc.com/www/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=933&news_id=631 which will sync your contacts to Outlook
or if you prefer, you can of course sync via Google contacts. Settings > Accounts & sync > Google > check Sync Contacts and let it sync
Pictures and media: just backup everything on your SD card. Connect phone to PC, and when prompted on the phone, click mount as Disk drive. Open the sd card via My Computer, and copy and paste everything onto your PC.
Edit: I just realized, changing a ROM/downgrading/etc won't affect your SD card at all. You don't have to worry about backing up pictures and media, they will just stay on your SD card unharmed. You could always make a backup if you feel paranoid, though.
If you want a quick speed boost and don't really care for Sense UI, try downloading LauncherPro from the market. It's free and a really fast home replacement.

I agree. I love it. More customizable than Sense, too. Well, if you're not a widget freak. I only use a few and I got them from the Market or they were the stock Android ones.
Well i downloaded the launcherpro and it didn't stop the lag. It still lags when i open text messages or go through my contacts.

LauncherPro helps with gerneal home screen navigation speed.
And yeah I hate the HTC messaging app lag. I switched to Handcent (free). It opens everything way faster. I don't go through my contacts through the People app often so it doesn't bother me.
Another tip: download Spare Parts (free) and set window and homescreen animations to Fast (or if you really don't care, None).
I downloaded Spare Parts and Handcent and it helped out quite a bit. Now i have a nother issue I tried to root my phone last night but had to do the downgrade to the .5build but everytime i tried it kept saying USB ERROR 170 or something like that...
hi, I heard a lot of good stuff about CM 6.0, so I was wondering how I should begin to upgrade. I have bricked a g1 before, so I am afraid to do any more flashing without specific directions.
I have two micro sd cards,a 1gb(class2) and 8gb(class6). The 8gb card has apps from apps2sd and an ext partition, so I was wondering if I can just flash the rom with the 1 gb card and just put in the 8 gb card with no problems? I do not really mind if my call logs/texts do not get backed up as long as my apps work.
Info:
firmware: 2.1-update1
baseband: 62.50sc.20.17h_2.22.23.02
kernel: 2.6.33.4-cyanogen mod [email protected]toxygene #1
mod version: cyanogen-5.0.7-DS
Thank you. hope to hear from you guys soon.

I just flashed CM 6.0.0 DS RC2 from the site referenced:
http://theunlockr.com/2010/04/26/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-the-htc-g1-dream/
Very good step by step and you can download ROMS from there also.
As far as your SD cards I'd stick with the 8GB. (1) It's faster, (2) according to instructions you have to re-format so you have a swap partition-96MB, ext2-512MB and the rest fat32. Not sure that flashing with the 1GB and then switching to the 8GB would work--anyone ?
The ROM is very cool but I've noticed a couple glitches, maybe it's just me.
Market takes forever on 3G or wifi. It works, just no where near as fast as it seemed to on 1.6.
Now this problem is making me try other ROMS.
Example: I have Weather and toggle widgets app that I loaded and then place the widget so I have my nice clock but seems every time I reboot, for whatever reason, the widget won't reload, and if I try to re-install from the widget list it's not there. The app is still on the phone, but no access to the widget.
This is not the only app this has happened with. Possibly older apps with newer ROM issue. I checked the compatibility button in settings but no change.
I'm far from an expert, just a heads up.
Other than these couple things, killer ROM.
Technically these aren't tagged as stable ROMS but I'm having fun playing with all of them.
Good Luck

Thanks for the reply, I already went ahead and flashed CM 6.0RC2, the only problem I noticed is the lag when going to home from an app (camera, facebook, etc) and sometimes the phone would mute and I would have to reboot to fix it (Very annoying, but will stick with it for now)

Just a suggestion : maybe try this one : Htcclay's Superfly G1 d/s v1.1 - Froyo 2.2. Has ROM Manager on it with Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. Battery life is very good, 3hrs @ 65% with heavy use, and the memory is absolutely the best. Still have 68MB open on internal memory. Most apps on SD. gmail app is changed, for the better, couple new options. The one and only pain is market, which is also a bit slow on this one. I'll live with it.
No glitches, no mystery reboots and widgets are staying put. Seems very very stable. Evidently you haven't had the couple small issues I had. I've tried 5 different ROMS today and slight issues with all but this one is really, really good.
Think I found the Rom I'm sticking with.
Gotta give props to cyanogen and all the xda folks for all the development, recommendations, and suggestions.
G1 has been sitting for months and I finally got the nerve to flash. Glad I did it, got a new phone and can't put it down.
thanks guys.

As far as I know. I have 767 backup apps on my SD card right now. Tell ya what. Been playing with this all day and observed a few things.
Get yourself - atrack dog (SD) backup, run it, takes a few minutes depending on how many apps, it'll list every backup app ya got on SD, "with" the "icons" showing. Either install apps you want from your SD or do new version tracking and see what you can upgrade. Also apps on internal storage are listed at the end of the SD list so no need to get the regular atrack dog.
Can you imagine trying to figure out which app is which with a file explorer just by the brief description ? After install atrack takes you right back to where you left off, unlike installing through file explorers. So much easier this way.
One thing though, things like weather apps, clocks and such, put on your internal memory, (starts with approx 89MB with this ROM), found that the slight delay running apps from SD screws **** up. I still have approx 65MB internal memory left, ball park 200 apps installed.
With this ROM after rebooting, give it a few extra minutes to boot completely. Apps on SD take a little to load their icons, I assume because of the delay loading from the SD card, or you'll end up with the same generic icon for all of them.
Once up and running though your good.
Absolutely Killer ROM........

Just "google" froyo themes and there's a bunch. Search Icons or widgets in Market and a big list will pop up for ya.
That background pic on the home screen wasn't one I would've picked so I just changed it.
On my LG Revolution My SystemPanel App shows about 350 MB memory and 12 GB on the SD card. It also cites System Storage 1 GB, Application Storage 1.5 GB and Cache 193 MB. The SuperBox app shows 1.5 GB "Phone" memory. With about 25 applications "active" and several widgets installed, I still have 134 MB memory left
So far I've found the battery life not great, definitely have to charge during the day with 4lte and wifi on.
Noticed a bunch of the bloatware widgets took up memory even when I deleted them from the homescreen. Used TitaniumBackup to Freeze
Apps I've frozen with no apparent problems (yet).

Ya, coming from the incredible, even stock I would have 100-150 mbs of ram, and rooted I'd have usually 180-210. This phone, having the same amount of ram as that, will be anywhere from 30-100 usually. That's some pretty bad bloat.
In 3g only network, the phone actually has a really good battery(compared to the incredible), I can go all day without root so far, the baddest part is the % i lose just sitting there without use and the screen off, it sucks.
And have you been able to assign Google where Bing had priority before? I have the bing search relatively good, just really laggy.
Thanks for this list! I had started to experiment but kept it on the safe side since we don't have a recovery yet.
I noticed that there is quite a bit more listed in Bloat Freezer over Titanium which was my first freeze app. I tried Bloat Freezer when I noticed that some things that were frozen were still showing running processes.
A couple of notes to add on to this -- I'm running Go Launcher and cannot use any of the LG specific widgets, Friends+, What's New, etc. but:
What's New is still running and has functionality beyond the What's New widget. I forget the details but I think on a missed call I got the What's New app to display missed call, sms and email count from the pull down alerts. It was late and I didn't think twice about it until the next day (which is what prompted me to find out what was still running in the background even though I'm using Go Launcher.
I'm not sure exactly which Verizon app is responsible, but i recently unfroze all Verizon specific apps while experimenting and I was prompted to try the new data usage widget from Verizon. When I originally froze all these apps, that widget had stopped working in stock home. So it is not dependent on your home/launcher, but it is dependent on one of the VZ apps.
I'm tempted to just go down your list and freeze everything all at once, but maybe I'll do it in small batches and report back any findings.
Again, thanks for the list!
Wow, that is a ton of frozen bloatpops... didn't think too much of it but that's more apps than i had on my Inc. total on CM.. lol.

I also just completely uninstalled bing search + bing voice.
I seem to be experiencing a couple issues:
1. Search button did not remap to Google Search... so it does nothing at all
2. Lockscreen music controller seems to control a separate instance of the notification area music controller
Avail: 154MB +29MB in 4
(bah!)
I've gone through most of these without a problem -- the last one is VZWSERVICE which is now repeatedly popping up:

I'm curious though what purpose do these serve:
SNS
VZW SMS Filter
VZWService
I have them frozen and already recieved an SMS, so no hindrance there. I recognize the SNS icon from when I first got the phone (one of the widgets I think). I can't see any effect of having them frozen other than the obvious of course.
Be careful with these, I used Bloat Freezer to freeze a small subset of the apps listed in this thread (and none others) and now don't have a home screen. I turn on the phone, slide to unlock, and then the screen is black (normal indicator icons at the top). Holding home gets me to a recent apps page with no recent apps. Nothing else does anything, I can't even turn off the phone without taking the battery out. Any ideas?
the ones i posted can be frozen with no incident.
of course i use a custom launcher (launcher pro) so i can't attest to the home screen working
however, after freezing some other apps listed in other posts my bluetooth wouldn't work...
I use Go Launcher and I was able to add a few to the lists above:
Tunewiki
Sync Service
Mobile IM
Messaging Widget
Messaging (I use GO SMS)
Does anyone know what the LG and Verizon hidden menus processes are?
System seems a lot faster now and has better battery as far as I can tell.
Only issue I can think of, is that When I have my BT earpiece on and connected, I can not seem to get music out of the 3.5mm jack and into the car's aux.
Anyone else have this problem? What is the solution?
What wifi tether is everyone using? My market won't update. So if anyone can post an apk that'd be great.
Also don't freeze autorun 1.0 i think it is. That is the connectivity option for our usb and hdmi slots. Without that it'll work but you can't change the options ever. So you'll be stuck with hdmi off or on and usb charge only cause i think it always starts as.
Little Buddy Sr.
OP:...just a thought, take it or leave it haha
It would be greatly appreciated if you could update the list every so often with new ones added throughout the thread. Then maybe this could become a sticky at some point.
Also:
Anyone else realize Latitude and Twitter for LG doesnt show up in Ti Backup yet is running every once in awhile.... or maybe it's just my phone?
Um I don't even remember twitter being on my phone, I use bloatfreezer and pretty much froze everything on the OP list. I don't think there is to much else that you want to freeze with out risking your phone

If you use the stock launcher and then freeze Home 2.2.2 then you will have no home screen.
I use Go launcher EX so I was able to freeze home with no problems.
Only thing I can think of is a factory reset. But I'm sure others have better ideas.
I don't think Twitter for LG (or anything for LG) is active without the LG Home active.
I left lg home active, twitter doesn't show up anywhere in bloatfreezer. I have nothing on my phone that even refers to twitter.
Yea i'm not really sure where it's at. I think it's a sub-app(?) of something like one of those facebook/twitter/etc feed widgets. But every so often it shows up in my "running" folder on Go Launcher EX, and I used to see it in my task killer when I had one but i've never seen it on a list anywhere else.
rogue bloat? a new age in ruining our phones haha
As major said, and from what i've seen he's right 99% of the time, I haven't seen it since I froze/.bak LG Home. I'll post a screen shot if I end up seeing it again though

we're pretty much able to do that....but the hesitation has been because we have not had a recovery system and it's risky to start deleting any files at all.
However....a recovery system has been through testing lately(yesterday/today) and was released. There's no saying it's perfect but I haven't heard of anyone having big issues. So if you are comfortable with the recovery system available, delete away.

Hopefully you have this fixed already if not:
not sure if this will work but...connect your phone as a USB and hope it connects as a Mass Storage. Go into data/app and delete the Titanium Backup .apk
No idea if this will work, but it's possible that with TiBackup gone it will unfreeze everything.
I have played with my N2E with ReLauncehr as a base, and Launcher7 as my preferred launcher (which doesn't launch by default), and now looking at readers.
Firstly, the stock reader. In Relauncher there is a button on the top left. Pressing this takes me to page one of the book I have had open. Not the current page. I cannot find the Reader App to put in as an icon on My L7 tiled screen, though the library app is Ok for this.
However, I have tried coolreader as it has nice customisations for the hard buttons, plus text formatting that I like.
However, I get similar issues in it starting a book at page 1 sometimes. Is this a common thing? It is when I exit the app and then go back in. I can go from a book back to the 'root' page and then back to the book again OK.
Also, sometimes, I get the 'book loading' screen for a very long time. Often pressing the page up/down buttons revive it.
Thanks
I may have solved this by going to Moon+ reader... which works better for me!
Which moon+ reader version and where can I find it? Thnx

It's waht I used, though it's not perfect. It doesn't keep up with page numbering very well.
Well I have since reinstalled cool reader and it is working properly. It may be that it needs an SD card which I probably didn't have in at the time? Anyways, all good now.
Can not read from an external SD
Hello. I long enjoyed the Cool Reader for HD2, but now bought the SGS4 and I can not use the program. All my books are stored on the external SD, but the menu in the program allows access only to internal memory - emulated SD (storage/emulated). At the same time, my wife uses the program on your Sony Xperia ZR and easy to read books from the external SD.
How to fix?
On my SGS2 under browse the file system it lists both my internal and external card.
