Is there any app or anyway to covert SMS messages to .txt or .rtf files so I can put them in my computer?
Sort of like how you can export your notes on AKNotepad.

You just said it right there. Just try copying the whole text and paste it into AKNotepad. Then you should be able to export it from there.
maybe try one of the SMS2Gmail apps, where it sends a copy of ya sms to gmail (duh lol) so you can have it on your pc. there's one that also syncs it, and automatically transfer all ya sms to gmail. try searching the market for them or google. there is one free one and one paid one.
Txtract It converts sms to html

It's a whole thread, not just a single note.

Thanks man, tried out SMS Backup and it worked great. Just wish it would make it into a .txt or .rtf file so all the GMail formatting isn't all over it.

yea.. thats what i figured.. thanks though
If they were at some point synced with your PC & your talking about losing them in both places you can use XP system retore for the PC & then re-sync.
Otherwise there's not much you can do.

System restore, isnt that just system files ?
I am pretty sure that no data at all is altered, it even says that no data is changed when you run it. Could be wrong though.
If your contacts were synced to an exchange server chances are that the IT department running it conducts regular backups and you could restore your contacts that way.
Basically, is there any copy of your contacts anywhere? Home computer? Laptop? Work server? A backup? Or perhaps someone stealing (touch wood) your data
System Restore works? It happened to me. . . LOL but that works for sure?
Try this in the future https://zyb.com/ . that might help
If you use Activesync with Outlook.
Look in your deleted items directory in Outlook on your PC/Laptop, you will find them there. Just select all and move them back to your contacts folder and when you next sync it will put them back on the device.
Same goes for anything like Outlook mail, Notes or Calendar items...
THANK YOU!!!! How do you select them all? I have 2007 version BTW so how?

Usual windows, left- click the first then SHIFT-click the last or CONTROL-left-click to select seperate ones. Right click and move to Personal folders/Contacts.
BE CAREFUL here.. when you choose where to move them, select the small '+' symbol at the side of Personal Folders to open, DON'T click on the actual Personal folders as it will just push them straight into the root folder and cause you problems.
EDIT: when I said select 'all' I meant all the contacts...Don't just select everything including mail to put in the contacts directory. Contacts to contacts, mail to mail etc...
I just clicked edit>select all and just moved them all to contacts!! THANK YOU AGAIN YOU SAVED MY ASS!!!
System restore doesnt restore the content of pst files or mailboxes- that would be insane! Imagine doing a system restore and losing your appointments/emails/contacts that you have received since...
Next time sign up for a free mozy account and save your pim data etc to their secure online storage site.
ODD, it says you have to pay?
Oops that the my referral link for paid for accounts!
Have editted it to the free mozy service now.

Told ya!! Voodoo dolls!!! (private joke...)
Hi,
Using Gmail IMAP4 on my Vario III. I can send messages fine, and see them in my sent mail folder at gmail.com, but I can't see them in the sent mail folder in Pocket Outlook on the phone (it's empty).
Is this right? If not, what am I doing wrong?
Thanks.
go to email options then to the tab at the bottom that says message and one of the options is keep copies of sent email in sent folder.
Thanks, but it's already checked.
I've had a similiar issue using Windows live(the application) to check my hotmail account. I can see all my folders to move stuff to, but I can't actually retrieve any of the messages from any folder other then the inbox. I can however move things from my inbox to wherever.
If I use PIE I can get to them through the browser however.
Sorry, forgot the solution. Go to Tools > Manage Folders > and select the folders to sync..
Nice one. Thanks.

Worked for me as well. I had the same problem. Thank you pyro.
worked, thank you guys, but i am still wondering why microsoft did not just make this enabled by default (automatically sync all folders for any pop/imap account) :-\
The sync option works on Gmail folders as well..
Hi. I am using TyTn II. Wanted to know if I can access the files that store messages (sms) and contacts. Which ones would they be and how do I access them. Thanks.

If your need to access them is for a backup purpose then try PIMBackup. It's a good program that does just that.
Thanks thesire and sherpa. I actually wanted to store some messages in TyTn II that I retrieved from my old phone. Was wondering how could that be done. If I could create some new files for these messages and store them???
If your old phone is similar i.e. windows mobile os the you can run pimbackup which will save all your contacts and sms messages to a single file which you should be able to copy to your tytn 2 and restore all your contacts and messages back to your new phone using pimbackup again. if your old phone isnt a ppc then all i can sugest is that u forward the text messages you wish to keep to your new phone via sms. if you want to try pimbackup u can get it from here:
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-pim-backup-v2-8.html
hope this helps.
I would like to attach other files in outgoing emails besides images, but every time I try to attach in the gmail client, the gallery app comes up, only allowing me to select images. is there a way to attach other files I have stored on my sd card in outgoing gmail emails from my nexus one?
edit: I realize now that I can use my file browser astro to attach files. can I use my gmail client to do the same without going into astro first?
I'd like that too. I was in an e-mail conversation the other day and wanted to send a .pdf file to that person in my reply. Couldn't do it and had to send via astro file manager which creates a new conversation thread in gmail. Not disastrous but not ideal.
I have OI File manager from the market and when I attatch in gmail it gives me an option to pick gallery or that particular file manager (not astro, I find it wierd) Either way. That one works!

this is exactly what I was looking for, thank you!
I'm still a little curious why astro isn't available as an option though.

Calendars are now syncing per Feisty Noodles hack.. I want to say contacts is the last of the common phone gapps that needs to be ported to the NC...
Indeed. I wonder if the contacts apk from the one calendars were pulled from would be the first place to look

Calendar is over contacts, no question.. but I am tending to read/respond to emails if the tablet is nearby on it rather than the phone, and it'd be nice to have my contacts there so I can send new or CC people using it.
I've read that Touchdown will do the trick, but it's an expensive trick
I really want it for google voice sms
Tested the ContactsProvider.apk and Contacts.apk from the same rom package as the calendar apks but it was a no-go, the apk's wouldn't install. Going to try a couple other apks to see if I have any luck.
Did u try installing or just copying to system apps? I think you just copy

Tried both ways. Installing failed and copying to system/apps had no effect.
Posted from my ROOTED Barnes& Noble NookCOLOR
what happened when you copied? maybe it needs the accounts.xml modified to be synced like with the calendar?
I found a method of getting Contacts.apk actually working, but it won't sync with Google Contacts.
I was, however, able to export my Google Contacts to a file from the website and use the Contacts' app "import from SD" card.
It took a lot of trial and error, so I'm not sure how to replicate the steps it took me. I know I modified the /data/system/packages.xml to accept unsigned apps, and put the contacts and contactsprovider into /system/app/
Your mileage may vary.
Interesting, what are the steps u remember?
Sync Calendar at least
I'm using the "Synker" app to sync my calendar to google and its working real good for me, the only thing is you need to push a button on the widget to sync. Still alot simpler than all the other stuff I was trying
