dxTop Widget Development

Wanted to start a thread here about dxTop widgets. I want more of them! Memory Management is awesome, now we just need a few more!
This is basically a plea to the Developers here to make a few.
Weather
Calender
Frequent callers
RSS
Digital Clock
New Analog Clock (If you make themes, maybe just extract your clock, and make them avalible as dxTop Widgets, as dxTop overwrites the clock styles )
There are more, a better starting list is at the dxTop Forums however

Perhaps a XBL Widget showing peoples status. Or maybe even a mini buddy list from some of the IM clients.

I'm thinking about adding a widget view to the open source Wifi Tether app so that you can just click on a button on your screen... If the author doesn't beat me to it.

I would like a RSS feed widget and weather widget. Maybe a system status widget(storage, temp, memory, and cpu speed)

Perhaps the tether widget could show who is also connected.

I am all about the different style clocks. Thats a great idea.

Yeah, but the thing is, I'm probably not going to actually code it because I dont have the time; I'm just going to make a view for it... eventually... =D

Wouldn't that end up being a widget that's about the size of an entire screen?

Or you just touch a widget the same size as the Mem monitor, and it changes between them/expands like a folder opening for more detailed view, or a combo of both, tap to change the quick view, hold for a detailed overview.
Mind you, I am not code savvy, so I have no clue if it'd work...but the widgets in windows can do similar things, so some intelligent Developer might take a swing at it =)

could be a good use for that extra screen , lol
or make it one whole screen or in parts that way you can disperse them among your 4 screens

Is there a way to make an options screen for this or something? It's exactly what I've been looking for, however, my widget is showing 'red flag warning' because there's a fire risk today(even though it's going to downpour any minute).
I don't care much for this function in general, so it has nothing to do with your programming specifically, but is there a way to turn this off? I hate not being able to see just the temp outside without having to press the widget first...

The source code is there. Can someone made it work outside US?

Looking at the source, I think it'd be easier to use the app as a framework for an international version rather than modify the existing code. The reason being is it was designed an api from a US weather service.
You never know though.

install appmanager to access ALL installed programs....

This is awesome. Any battery effect, really?

I liked it but removed it due to not updating weather enough... was off by quite a bit

Missing a lot of icons but otherwise a good start for a widget.

I would like the option to choose where we get the weather info from. I have weatherbug also, which gives me the current weather & the widget which gives me the lows & highs of the day. The lows & highs don't always match weatherbug.

How did you remove it? I tried using Appmanager and it doesn't even show it.

Weather Widget now has a Hero-style flip clock :D

He did a really good job on this, i've been using his weather app donation version for awhile and the flip clock looks just like it does on hero or as close as you can really get.. really good dev graphics wise. I'm more we'll see more imitation hero widgets to come.

The top one is from this, the bottom's from Hero. The H/L gives it away.

forgive me for asking... but do I need to run open home for this widget?

I've been sitting up wondering the same thing. I went to the website and didn't know the first thing to do. And if I get openhome, nothing won't happen to my current theme will it?

It's a widget...You download it, long press screen...and press widgets and add it

but where do you download it from? is it available in the market? i searched in the market and there are so many weather widgets out there. can you give the name of the widget or a link to download it?

Just search for weather widget. It's from android apps. The donate version is the one with the Hero style clock. Costs 1.49

Right I've found it on Market Place...... do a search for "weather widget - donate"
Oh and other than http://lock2.wordpress.com/ does anyone else know of a support forum / site? I only because its refusing to show current weather icon for my city

I have an interesting issue with this app. I can't install it. It downloads, installs then throws up a "Insufficient Storage" error. I still have over 800 megs left on my ext3 partition and 82 megs left on the phone. I can download and install everything else from the market except this one. Anyone ever seen this before?

not sure how to solve that, I've had it before, but a workaround is to directly push the file to where ever your app folder is... =/

yeah try to do this through adb or terminal emulator. it should work. maybe uninstall then reboot, then reinstall.

Are you using beautiful widgets or weather widget 2.0?

Best Widgets?

I just got my G tab and have installed vegan. I am liking it a lot, but I cannot find widgets that look good on the homescreen. I am using launcher pro and want to know what you guys are using to make the homescreens look awesome.

MixZing has a nice 4x4 music widget. Also, another user here recommended Jorte as a replacement for the stock calendar--it works very well and I'm now using that. Finally, I also loaded up Android Photo Widget (Free); it displays and cycles through my photos--the free version limits you to 10 photos; paid version more. Nice widget.
Oh, I'm also using Typoclock which can be found here on XDA, along with a companion widget called TxWthr which is very basic; I link that widget to the WeatherBug app, which is awesome.

Where did you snag the photo widget? I have been looking for one that will allow me to select a specific gallery.

Another trick to make it look much nicer is to install ADW Launcher then go into the ADW settings and set it to the Max number of columns and rows.
This can also be accomplished with LauncherPro, so it is whichever launcher that you prefer.

I like the launcher pro plus friends widget that combines Facebook and twitter. The calendar widget in lp+ is cool too.

Audio Manager Pro has a good widget for quickly switching sound profiles that you create. Widgetsoid (free) can be used to roll your own toggle bar for pretty much anything on the device.

I am still working on my pages, but here is what seems to work best for me at this time. I also have the post-it notes widget, not yet on my screens. I try to keep my screens separated by media, utility, and gaming, once I load more games for the kids, they will get their own screen.

Yeah that Button Savior looks awesome! Stock TNT works okay with ADW launcher replacing the home screens. I'm just using that setup until Cyanogen is a little more stable for the tab.

Any widgets similar to this for my home screen?

I have used Beautiful Widgets for my home screen widget for quite some time but now the clock does give the correct time and its geolocation does not update. Looking at the app store there are multiple reports of similar problems and the dev does not seem to be updating the app now. Screenshot attached.
Are there any similar easy to use widgets to give a similar HTC sense clock appearance and weather? In particular I need added functionality such as being able to customise multiple areas to click and open certain apps. I've looked on the app store and the closest I found was the 3D flip clock but like some others I tried the widget does not fill the whole area and leaves a space on the sides and below on my Note 9 screen which looks awkward.

You can give HD Widgets a try. It is customizable and you can probably get close to what you need. It has time and weather (temp current weather and forecast)
It has clickable areas for the clock, weather forecast
You can also set up specific apps for each clickable location.

HD widgets on mine

I agree. I use HD Widgets for clock/weather & then stock Samsung calendar/appointment widget. Hope this leads you to finding something that works for you.

Beautiful Widgets
I use BW as well and this was happening to me until I went in to Settings>General >Weather data provider and switched it to AccuWeather instead of using Weather Underground. Weather Underground doesn't work for me at all, but AccuWeather works just fine. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies! I managed to get beautiful widgets working by going to "Optomise battery usage" in phone settings and switch this OFF for the widget, now all working again! If it stops then HD widget looks similar and slick!
