Faulty Build of Diamond2 earpiece? - Touch Diamond2, Pure Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have two Diamond2: 1st one has no sound in earpiece in July and the 2nd one has the same symptom now. The sound can be heard in speaker and bluetooth headset, but no sound route through the earpiece. Hard reset or reflashing the ROM did not recover the issue. I have seen other posts in different forum claimed similar issue. This makes me believe that there is Diamond2 earpiece build quality. Picking both Diamond2 to HTC and they just change the earpiece but did not comment about the possible cause of this issue.
Just wonder how many users have the same issue and need repair from HTC?

Yes, I have seen your mentioned post before I post this thread. My thread is mainly concerned about the build quality of Diamond2 earpiece seems below standard. I have also read your reply that Vietnam HTC service centre even acknowledged this is common issue of Diamond2 that I am unwilling to accept.

Maybe this problem is limited to just few of us.

I hope so. But I have 2 Diamond2 and both have to replace the earpiece. This is not a single device but 2 have the same issue. This makes me doubt about the build of Diamond2. I have seen in PPCSG website there are users having the same issue in earpiece.
http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?act=ST&f=16&t=106251&st=460
Just hope it is only some lots have this issue, but not the build quality.

Diamond2 Bad Ear Speaker Quality
I have the same issue with my phone
The bigger issue to me is that I live in Costa Rica, so no way to get HTC support
I am trying to find the ear speaker to buy it online but can't find it
Does anybody knows where I can purchase it?
I'll really appreciate any help
btw, I am really disappointed with HTC, they have a lot of time in the market and experience to have this type of quality issues in new phones

I am also very disappointed HTC about the Diamond2 build quality.
Here is another thread that 2 posters (at moment of this reply) have the issue of broken earpiece.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=547235
I would expect more and more Diamond2 users will have this issue. It is the fact that Diamond2 earpiece build quality is below standard. As my starting post mentioned, my two Diamond2 ran into broken earpiece in different time. Time will prove. I am going to sell my both Diamond2 to other phone. Good luck to all of you.

yep min doesn't also work no more ..
another problem which i have is that sometimes the upper part of the screen does not work anymore?

Sounds like a select few are getting a bad batch or something.... A lot of people have had no problems at all, but some do.... hTc cannot be perfect. If you contact them by phone or email, I'm sure they will be glad to help.

did you use the wired hands-free that came with it?
this is probably caused by the bad usb connector

damn is sent the device to euro twice for the broken ear peace with the hard spl from xda and now the wont repaire it. Have to pay 400€ for a new mobo.
I still have the original rom..

Diamond 2 No Sound
It just happened to my Diamond2 yesterday. Still cannot get it fixed. Really appreciate if somebody or someone or even HTC itself could fix the issue.

Diamond 2 no sound
I am so pissed that my htc diamond 2 has no sound receiving or calling but the external speaker works. Got this as a present Brand new in box 2 days ago from hong kong and i live in Canada so I have no idea how I can get this fixed. I emailed the hong kong htc to see if I could purchase an earpiece to fix it hopefully I could or else I would have to ship it back to hong kong. Which if I ship by express one way is $60-$80 for a 1 - 3 day ship. If anyone knows where to get these earpieces and have any clue to installing it would be greatly appreiciated.

I just had the exact same problem with my phone after only 2 months!!... This seems to be becoming a common fault with the TD2. Very poor quality indeed. .

Hong Kong
90% of all Hong Kong Merchants are CROOKS! STAY AWAY

I ordered Hong Kong TD2 and it came with broken earpiece so next monday I hope it will work

We need to find out what these devices have in common so others with Topaz phones from the same batch can be prepared.
There is almost certainly a portion of the Serial Number which you all have in common; Part of it will link up with a particular build batch. If we can figure out which it's from, maybe we can take the info to HTC and see if they can resolve the issue / acknowledge it and get devices replaced.

It is not. Hong Kong is one of world known shopping centre and people may find many different outlet to buy for hugh variety of goods coming all around the world. I admit some of these retailers are not doing well such as re-selling such returned items to another buyer. Anyway, it is fault of HTC that certain batch, especially the early batch, may have problem in the earpiece. I have mine 2 sets both went into problem and repaired.

Agreed. There are users in such short period having defect in the built-in earpiece is very abnormal. I don't think it is easy to obtain such information. Remember TYTN II driver issue? HTC is easily evade from any liability and still getting hugh profit from selling later devices.

Mine too same problem. Happen about a month ago. Device is just 8 month old which i bought in Dubai. I am no longer in Dubai, so cant go for warranty. I tried with a phone shop, they said i dropped my topaz into water. wtf!!

broken screen is a common problem (good or bad?)

i talked to the guy who sold me my tilt today. I told him about my broken screen, how it just broke for no reason. he told me this is a common problem, and 6 people have came to just him about this problem. he says the crystals in the screen heat up and just break.
well is this is bad. but can it be good? if it is common then perhaps AT&T will recognize this and exchange for a new tilt will not cost what buying a brand new one is. however if they dont recognize this as a common problem then stay away from the Tilt.
if 6 people have came to him about it, how many other people do you think came in and talked to other employees besides him? then how many people do you think went to other AT&T stores in my city about this problem? then add all the stores outside my city, outside my state...we got a LOT of broken tilt screens...
Im not sure if lot of screens are broken by themselves here but if thats true, then this adds to the video driver issue they already faced
Tilt becoming a bad device?

well its been comfirmed by people here on the forum that the Tilt's screen (not sure about other branded kaisers) is thinner than previous phones such as the wizzard. i wonder if the hard touch screens are better, like that used in the HTC Touch.

I'm disgusted...

I don't want to sit here and ***** but I need to let some of this off my chest.
My gf bought me a brand new diamond from the Europe (no proof of purchase).
Now I'm not totally concerned with the battery life, speaker volume, in-call volume, etc as I know tweaks will show up for this phone slowly slowly.
My main concern that is KILLING me and I'm afraid I can't do anything about it is my screen. Its crystal clear, but I seem to have two spots at the bottom of the screen that turn yellowish on a white screen and whitish on a black screen?
Is it safe to assume I got a faulty unit and I'm pretty much stuck with it?
I'm honestly extremely furious with this, and they are not that visible unless im on certain screens but knowing that they exist simply kills me.
I have attached a picture which should give you a decent example of how it looks. Its not that visible with this shot. One blotch right above the HTC logo and the other to the very left of that.

Call HTC service/support they should do an in warranty repair. There is no need for proof of purchase because they can just warranty it off the build date. I had to do this with one of my Tilts, did not have a receipt but they repaired it under warranty for free based off the build date. It did take 2 weeks for the whole process though.
Jeff
HI,
The battery life and other tweaks are already around and they have a made a massive difference to my diamond. (latest UK rom and a few tweaks)
You should not be stuck with it... have you called HTC ? how come you have no proof of purchase ? Even so you should still be able to contact HTC give them the serial number and be able to send it back. You may have to wait while it is fixed but hey its worth it.
The only other option is to buy a new screen (about £70) and fit yourself.
I can see how it would bug you just knowing the screen issue is there, but i am sure you are not the only person to have a fault, these things do happen.
I would be interested to hear what HTC have to say.

Since youve got this device early in its life (WAAAAAAAY under a year) get in contact with HTC and they will probably just ask for the serial number from under the cover.
I returned my TyTN after around 2 months to get the screen alignment issue fixed, they didnt ask for proof of purchase even though I had it etc....so wasnt a problem.
Had this been a year later then it might be a different story
Get onto HTC about it....and be calm with them remember this sort of thing always happens with consumer electronics it is nothing personal.
No it's not very visible!
Do you need proof of purchase for a repair? It's not like it could be out of it's warranty. If you do then contact the retailer or get a bank statement.
You're not alone though. I have a small guy inside mine waving a torch at me just above the home key. He's a little sh*t, but I'm the bigger person so choose to ignore him.
I have to agree with these guys. I'm on my 3rd or 4th HTC product and I'm here to tell you that their service is SECOND TO NONE.
They are one of the few companies if you call their customer service, they actually answer the phone, speak english and resolve your problem without putting you on hold.
Call them, you shouldn't have any issues.
Mark
Wow, I already feel so much better. I mean i was so hyped up with the VGA screen with this phone but it did let me down. I hope HTC acknowledge this problem and fix it for me.
I had initially contacted HTC America for repairs and they told me to call Europe. I did but they were closed. I sent out an email to HTC europe and I'm waiting for a response. Maybe it's better if I pick up the phone and call them in person?
I will report tomorrow if anything happens in regards to this topic.
UPDATE:
I contacted HTC America and told them about my problem, and to my surprise they were extremely helpful thus far and are taking my phone in for repair.
They asked where the phone was purchased and I told them, but did not ask for a proof of purchase.
I will be sending it out tomorrow and hopefully receive it back in 2 weeks time maximum. After that, let the modding begin
+1 for HTC support - really great service.
EDIT:
Forgot to mention; First person I talked to was not able to help me out and told me to contact HTC Europe. Hung up the phone and called again and I went right through

some muppets do occasionally escape form jim hensons workshop!
Had to send mine in for repair due to the earpiece speaker had an annoying buzz at medium to high levels. Called HTC UK, told them the problem, they said they can repair it no problem, they sent an UPS delivery driver to collect my phone from my house. They received it next day.
Took about 10 days in repair but came back today well packed in a small box, gave it a good test and it now works perfectly .
When I received it back they left the test rom, radio and boot screen on it and wiped the internal storage. Made a backup before I sent it though .
First repair I have sent to HTC as usually all my HTC phones I have are through Orange UK and if I have any faults, they send out a replacement handset in less than 24hrs to the door, driver gives me new phone and I give them the faulty one .
For excellent customer service I give HTC a 10 out of 10
So maybe I should wait a couple more weeks before I send it in. Then there is a possibility of a replacement with a working US 3G version

Am I completely screwed?

So about 45 days ago I purchased a new Tilt off ebay. Big mistake but the people at Best Buy had me convinced that they stopped making them. Yesterday out of no where my keyboard went dead and my phone started acting up. Currently I can't leave my phone on without it starting the note program and recording sound clips until the memory is full.
At this point I was just wondering what my options are. Will AT&T exchange my phone for a refurbished one? Is there anyway I could sent the phone to HTC to get it repaired. Are there any reliable companies that I could send the phone to? I have heard stories about people just bringing the phone into a AT&T store and getting it swapped out. Am I out $400?
If you got it off ebay, att doesnt want anything to do with it. You can try for HTC support, but i have no idea how HTC is with that kind of stuff.
Do a hard reset, and see if that helps any.
I wonder if it's just a faulty keyboard and it's causing shortcuts to open the notes software.
What other things are happening?
Could be a cable loose inside or the keyboard circuit board could have slipped out of place. This happened on mine.
HTC wont touch an HTC device under warranty without a receipt (from original purchase) Branded devices they wont touch without them coming from the network.
Paid repairs are different, they'll carry out the repairs for you, and invoice you for the repairs. They also charge for a quotation for repairs if you dont get it repaired (£20 in the UK I think, no idea outside of the UK)
If the phone keeps recording notes, it could be something as simple as a button being stuck. my solution with old devices was to mash the buttons as much as possible, and it generally unstuck them.
If your device is 45 days old (to you) then to be fair, its not likely to be an issue that the seller knew about, as its something thats occured since then. Issues can occur at any stage in a devices life, its just unfortunate that yours has chosen now to go wrong.
If you're not looking to pay to get the device fixed, it may be something as simple as opening the case up, and cleaning around the keyboard/extra buttons and re-assembling it, but if you're unsure on how to do this, I'd recommend not trying. When I opened my old 9100 to try and clean it up, something went sproing, and I lost a spring... I could never use the bottom row on the keyboard after that.
I've had good experiences with HTC.

This isn't my experience.
I've had a couple of dealings with HTC UK and have been very happy:
1) Ebay-sourced Tornado failed screen - I phoned HTC and from the IMEI number they got the manufacturing date, worked out it was under a year old, and fixed it for free
2) ebay-sourced Artemis - I dropped it, bent the casing. I phoned HTC and they fixed it as a paid repair for 65UKP. This included a complete recase. When I noticed some of the buttons were a bit sticky afterwards, they did a second repair replacing the controls for free, despite it almost certainly being a problem caused by my initial dropping.
3) ebay-sourced Qtek 8500. Had a problem with the LCD failing when the clamshell was flexed. Again, phoned HTC UK and replaced under warranty.
They've been prompt, have native helpdesks, cheap and generally couldn't have been more helpful - definitely worth approaching them. This contrasts with, say, Nokia and is a major part of why I like HTC products.

The first thing u should do is figure out if it is hardware or software related. Just do a hardreset and see if that helps. If not, then its most likely hardware related.
Check in Settings - Buttons what button is assigned to the recorder (usually the one on the left side), remove that assignment.
The button must be stuck or the sensor below it faulty, so it senses that button always pressed.

Dont get me wrong, I wasnt slating HTC for their support, I'm with you on that one. I've just seen jobs that have been bounced back from them (rightfully so) and was just giving the worst case scenario, that being that HTC dont actually have to fix it.
the agent or att will not help you, you got it from eBay and even if they help it will be for extra $$ so you may well just override that idea
first thing we must be sure if its hardware failure or software failure
if its software then you need to read lots but eventually you will have to get a new ROM and start from scratch eliminate all 3rd party ( so i advice using stocked ROM)
look at this it might help http://rapidshare.com/files/103168855/HTC_Kaiser_Service_Manual_jas_pik.pdf

Square Trade
After this happened to me the first time I got some bunk electronics from ebay, I started using squaretrade.com. They will give you a warranty at about 50% of the cost of a Manufacturer/Dealer warranty and have a five day fix/replacement guarantee.
I would like to thank everyone for their reply I can see this is a dedicated community.

Last night I reverted back to my factory rom but this did not fix the problem. Some odd things that I noticed that has me completely baffled is that only the directional keys (up, down, right, left) work on the keyboard but nothing else works. I tried doing a hard reset but that didn't wont since the 2 soft keys are not responding.

That manual seems very complete if I can't get HTC to fix it I will attempt to fix it myself. Does anyone know if I can purchase replacement part?
There's some hope for you. I bought my Tilt off of Ebay. AT&T warranted it from the day that it hit their network with my SIM card. So although it was originally purchased from AT&T (by the ebayer seller) on Oct 17th 2007, my warranty started December 6th 2007. No receipt required. They swapped it no problem. The TILT has a 365 day warranty via AT&T.
Just make sure you deal with a service center and not the individual stores. Go to attwireless.com and search for "TILT Warranty" .. look for the service center information.
Mine was swapped with no hassle in about 5minutes (I had a rom issue). One note if you go this route, check the replacement! My replacement has key-sticking issues (the right key on the keyboard gets stuck down, etc). The speaker (for phonecalls, not external) also is a little more muted than my old one (I sometimes have trouble hearing people). I may rewarranty it.
*edit*
Here: http://www.wireless.att.com/answer-center/main.jsp?t=solutionTab&solutionId=KB64687
The service centers are contractors (I could tell by their shirts, saying "Company Name: Authorized AT&T Tech"), so I really don't think they care, as long as they can warranty it they will because it is more money for them. Just my thought.
As the above poster said, AT&T WILL do warranty exchanges on tilts bought through ebay or otherwise. I bought one off of craigslist and had it exchanged when a key on the keyboard stopped working. No problem. It is warrantied for 1 year after it is first used on their system.
The people stating otherwise are flat out wrong.
Thanks for the advice guys I was able to take the phone to a AT&T service center and swap the phone for a new one.

Broken speaker

The speaker on the back of my Tilt is pretty much dead, which means no speakerphone, no music and worst of all, it doesn't ring! Has anyone found a replacement one or a place that sells them? I've had no luck searching.

It does have a 1 year warranty from att, assuming its under a year and you are with att.
whats a warranty?
I thought I had bought it well over a year ago, but I just checked again and it turns out I bought it on Oct. 7th 2007, so I'm in luck! (hopefully) Guess I need to reflash and go find an att store.
But for the sake of others who might need a speaker and not have a warranty, or for future reference, does anyone know where to get one?
ebay or from someone that broke their phone.

[Q] phones4u exchange problem

ok so i purchased my first htc one as a sim free device from a phones4u store in the uk. On opening the box when i got home i found that the phone had been used already and also suffered from poor build issues, phoned the store up and they agreed to get another one sent to my local store as no other stores in the area seemed to have them.
Second device arrived all sealed which was great and did not seem to suffer any build/gap issues but after a few days it has now developed an issue with static sound through the ear piece when on calls and also has the issue of intermittent back and home keys having a lack of sensitivity and also on ocassions the buttons fail to illuminate....so having had this one for around 6 days i got back in touch with phones4u to arrange another exchange.
They have now told me that they no longer have any stock of the handset and do not know at this point when they might get any and so have either offered me a full refund or exchange for another handset of same value etc.
Can they really not have any stock? or are they now not releasing anymore untill the issues have been resolved?
Bit in a quandry as to what to do as they have given me 7 days to decide what i want to do. Really would like to keep the htc one as nothing else out there takes my fancy (tried xperia z and the z10) but even if i take the refund there nowhere else to get another one as it seems to be the same issue eveyrwhere with stock (carphone warehouse stores etc).
What are the chances of htc releasing a software update for the proximity sensor issue (which is what i believe i have) quite soon? Should i just hang onto the one i have (build quality seems ok) or get out now and get my money back while i can?
Mine is version HT339W
I have same problem with my first HTC One from Phone 4U, same look like was used before and have small gap on the top alloy body and white plastic around edge . They replace online and never want give me full refund.
Can you describe the static call problem a bit more is it anything like the problem I'm experiencing? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40081399#post40081399
I have no such problems, take it back.
If they can't offer you a replacement then i think they should give you a full refund.
Get a full refund and goto CPW. . . the batch that i got from there i know a few other people had, absolutely perfect builds. . . mind you, that was nearly 2 weeks ago now.
