Radio trouble - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Unfortunately my old Kaiser died, and I got another one second hand. However with the new one I have lots of radio trouble, it just keeps searching for a network and rarely it finds it, but only for a short time.
Of course first thing I did was flash hard SPL, and try some radio roms. I have no idea what version was installed on my previous Kaiser, but since I never upgraded it on that device, it must have been one of the few that my provider supports.
Tried these versions, but the problem remains.
I'm starting to think that my radio hardware might be malfunctioning, but just want to ask if there are maybe any other known issues with this? Maybe even with the hardware, that I could check myself? (after all, disassembly guides aren't hard to find)

Problems, repairable?

Well my Kaiser has been through a bit of ware and tare as normal, but hasn't been able to take as much as the Hermes it seems. I'm having the following problems,
1. Screen can be unresponsive intermittently.
2. Some keyboard keys you really have to push HARD to work
3. if I use the Hands Free kit and remove it, next time I make a phone call the Microphone and/or the Ear speaker(on the unit) will not function.
The Unit is still under warranty, however I've flashed a different ROM on it. Providing I can an original or Official upgraded ROM, would these faults be covered?
My unit is a HTC TyTN II, bought from 3 Australia on a contract. so if someone would like to help me find the ROM that'd also be good (I've looked at the Stock ROM list but haven't found any 3 Australia Roms.)
Many thanks
did your problems exist before you upgraded the ROM? if the problems appeared exactly AFTER upgrading your ROM, then problems 1 and 3 should be solvable (or can be reduced) by looking into flashing a compatible RADIO ROM (matching the ROM with a suitable radio ROM version is paramount to avoiding speaker and screen freeze problems). read the wiki for more information.
if the problems appeared randomly on their own, it could indeed indicate a hardware problem.
good luck!
EDIT: my bad, i totally forgot to mention the significance of the SPL version you are using with the ROM. once again, assuming the problems appeared exactly after the ROM upgrade, it is important to match BOTH the RADIO ROM as well as the SPL version with the ROM you have on your device.
SPL mismatches are known to cause screen freeze and speaker issues and RADIO mismatches are known to cause camera and speaker issues.
Hey,
Nah they didn't happen straight after, Well perhaps the Hands Free, but not sure.
With the SPL / Radio, It was all a bit too overwhelming to see what's compatible, so I just got the most recent SPL, Radio and Rom when I upgraded.
unlike normal software where "latest is greatest" usually, ROMs are a different beast...to get your device to purr along happily, it is imperitive to have a combination of ROM + Radio + SPL that is known to work correctly. unfortunately, the latest is greatest approach simply doesn't work and you will invariably end up facing strange otherwise inexplicable issues. there are issues reported rampantly of screen issues being solved by SPL upgrades...similarly speaker/sound issues are also reported and solved with a high frequency by ensuring fully matched combinations.
its a one-time read...start at the wiki...also search for mskip's excellent newbie ROM flashing guide...good luck!
Ahk, cheers for the heads up.
I might try what your using, as my rom is HyperDragon III. Would you be as kind to provide links for your SPL Rom and Radio?
Ta
you should be reading about all of this in the kaiser wiki and especially in the HyperDragon thread
the links to the wiki thread, the hyperdragon thread, as well as the links to my SPL thread and my radio thread are ALL already in my signature...have a look see!
as a summary for you (cuz you're not doing enough reading and i'm feeling good today ), just stick to the radio that comes with the ROM but do install cmonex hard SPL 3.29 to "complete" the combination recommended by the chef of that ROM
As you suggested, I read up about Radio's ,SPL's and ROM's. So I'm going to give it a go, however I'm trying to find Hyper Dragon IV, but can't find a DL link.
Let us know if the new Radio and ROM's work.
I'm having some similar issues too
I Gave up, restored it to it's initial state and sent it on warranty. Going to be without it for upto 6 weeks!!!

AT&T 3G Connection Issues

Hello everyone,
I have done a ton of google searches and spent about an hour reading through threads of people with similar problems. I have flashed a few roms and different spl/radios etc. Nothing seems to fix the problem.. Nor have I seen anyone in a post had their problem fixed either - they were just criticized and told to search the forums or read a generic faq on flashing radios..
Anyways, after reading all that and trying a few different radios nothing seems to help.
My device, while connected to 3G, can usually make 1 call when it first connects, then each call thereafter will fail with a beep beep beep.
I am running 3.29.Hard spl
Rom Version TPC_V10_MEGA WWE
Radio Version 1.70.18.02
Protocol Version 25.83.40.02W
Has anyone found a successful combination to correct their issues with the 3g network and their tilt? If you have no issues and have the same phone please post your build.
I have flashed from original roms and a few diff radios to no avail .
I really want my damned 3g to work.. and no I dont want to just manually switch to EDGE (which is what I have my phone forced on now).
Thanks in advance.
same here
I have had the same issue. The phone will show H or 3G and you cannot make a call. I have just accepted using the edge system to keep the phone working fine. The only thing you loose is the faster internet speed the phone otherwise works fine. I have assumed that I dropped the phone and something happened to the antenna. I contacted HTC about the issue and they say it is a hardware issue even though I have seen many speak of the same issue. I have the tilt.
I thought I did the same thing until I started searching and see that there are numerous people with the same issue.
I will just be patient and wait until a new winmobile phone comes out with a oversized screen! Hope the next xperia is that
Radio Issue
I had the same problem with that radio. I changed back to the 1.65 radio and everything worked properly again. I hope this helps.
See my sig for what I am running. I have run TPC's roms as well as others and almost every 6.1 compatible radio there is and have never encountered that problem.
Have you tried to go back to stock everything, rom radio and spl to see if that makes the difference ?

Lost ability to 'hear myself in speaker like landline' from rom / radio upgrade...

Hey guys.. Been a long time hermes flasher.. A buddy of mine boogered up the trackball of his blackberry and I fixed it, so he gave me his ATT Tilt (kaiser).
I noticed that when I first got it (i just stuck in my sim card and played with it for a bit) I could hear myself in the earpiece exactly like you can when you use any land line phone. I loved it, because it just felt more 'normal'. Well I upgraded to Sakajati IOLITE whatever rom and 1.65.something radio and have lost that feature... I've tried a few other roms and radios (1.70.x) and have had no luck regaining this. I even tried reverting to a standard ATT rom but no luck.
I'm surprised no one else has really mentioned this other than this thread....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358128
If anyone could enlighten me on this subject, by all means please do. It really enhanced the usability of the phone.
Moved as not ROM Development...
Normally it's a Radio issue, i'd try some others and i'm sure there are more threads of people who have no phone capability even after flashing the recommended radio's..

too long to identify bluetooth devices

Well I'm not sure if this problem is on other TYTNs or not but this really annoys me, the problem is when trying to beam a file or anything, the mobile takes toooo long to identify the names of the bluetooth devices that are found on the search , i'm not sure if that's a problem which is related to the radio version or is it something in the registry, welllll, any suggestions????
Yup could be radio related. Try other ones. Mine doesn't take long to find bluetooth devices. Does it even quicker if you pair a device.

Well I'm using version 1.70.18.02, shouldn't problems be solved as updates are made, I can see that you use 1.71.09.01, and if I try another radio version, will all the data on the mobile be deleted????

Every device is made with different parts (sometimes from different factories) that can never be 100% identical. Each has variances and tolerances so small it's hard to understand. Occasionally some components may fail in a device, even though it may still function, usually when they get older and the lifespan of the component has been reduced by heat or other factors. Most of the time the software can compensate for these changes. Updates cannot take into account every single little problem that may occur, no matter how hard the manufacturers try. That's one reason why sometimes two people who seemingly have the same problem with their phones, might fix it using two separate radio versions.
When flashing the radio, the data in the memory, etc. will not be deleted as the radio is separate from the other components in the device, so it's safe to re-flash the radio as many times as you want (as long as you hardSPL'd it first, and it's a successful flash).
well sorry for the stupid question but does someone have radio version newer than version 1.70.18.02 or is there a link on xda-dev that i can download it from?????

htc tilt signal issue

Hi guys, I would love if anyone could help or has had this issue before, I have an htc tilt build of the kaiser, and ever since I flashed it into anything custom, tried a bunch of different radio's and hard spl's and rom versions. I even reverted everything back to the stock settings as best I could. I couldn't find the original wm 6.0 stuff it had so I flashed everything (including the hardspl back to normal and the wm 6.1 update for the kaiser. Either I may be doing something wrong... or I bricked my phone, but since its operating normally aside from the signal, I don't think I bricked it.
Heres essentially what it does, I turn it on, it works for X amount of time, usually a few mins then won't do anything, calls or data, even if it has signal, which seems to get weaker or no signal at all after a few minuites.
Now an odd thing is, if I tether the internet to my laptop with internet sharing, alot of the time the connection runs stable for several hours if I tether it within a few mins of a bootup.
I'm sorry it was so wordy, I just figured any information could help out, I'd really appreciate it, and not having to restart my phone alot the time would be great
Currently I'm running stylus black's latest full build (5.0?) on hard spl 3.29 and the radio 1.70.19.09. the stuff recommended on the thread.
Try a different Radio the recommended just means tested by chef and works doesn't mean it will work for all people since so many variables involved in choosing radio.
Hi, was your issue resolved using a different radio.. My friend has signal problem as well. It only happens when the keyboard is open.. is this a hardware realated problem?
