Replacement LCD, Are other types available? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Are there any other types of LCDs available for the kaiser? It deforms easily as i'm pressing down on it, you can see the depression of the plastic , i don't like this. Is there a tougher type of lcd, something that doesn't feel like a thin sheet of plastic on jelly?

What do you use to protect your X1

Has anyone got the full body shield for your X1? Just I think the X1 is quite a stretchable phone compares to many others I have used, so am thinking of buying a full body shield, good idea? What do you used to protect your X1?
http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield...es-screen-protectors-covers-skins-shields.php
Here is the link
PS I have of course got a screen protector already.
One of the things that distingiush the X1 from other smartphones is beautiful, original design combined with a solid, lasting structure - at least that's what I've experienced so far . So putting it in some kind of bodyshield would be kinda like hiding a piece of art in a safe just cause it's valuable - it misses the point completely.
That's just my opinion though.
EDIT: I just use a screen protection myself, but different from Invisible Shield - it's made of polycarbonate and honestly it workes great for me.
a sock
no screen protction
i use a sock too
i got a body protector from ebay that never scratches or peels it cost me $20 but it was worth it
I'm thinking of those plastic/rubbery shields with designs for additional protection. and it will hide those unslightly marks. Do you think its worth it? anyone tried it? Saw a store offering it for $35-40, they'll be the one to fit it in
I tried a variety of 2-piece protectors, hard plastic, silicone, thicker flexible plastic... I wouldn't bother. The silicone ones would come apart as the phone came out of the pocket, the hard plastic felt ugly (& didn't protect much - if the phone fell, the pieces would pop off with the impact)
So, don't go there... use a clear screen protector, NOT a Zagg-style one, though the Zagg body is a good idea. With hindsight, I would have used a body shield like that.
There are cheaper alternatives to Zagg, but check build quality first
$24.99 for a slip of thin 'plastic'?? (or whatever material its made out of)
...Wow. I think a more suitable and affordable price for a screen protector would be ~ $15.00. But quite interesting to see this
Unfortunately, I did not protect my X1 as I should have. Ordered a genuine leather pouch, but no screen protector. Ordered a black housing, but I really dont trust myself opening it. Opening a cell phone compared to a PSP to change the housing is quite different..
I got one of those cheap "netbook protectors" ($2) from a local store. Cut it out to shape for the battery cover which is pretty much what is scratch prone for my phone. By the way, my phone is originally black but it the paint is scratched I decided to remove all of them. I used a dish scouring pad (the plastic one NOT steel wool or something) to slowly scrape off the paint without removing the XPERIA print Now it's gunmetal colored + glossy because of the transparent "skin".
Xperia protection
I've tried em all. True. Those two piece units, whether silicon or plastic make the phone too bulky and don't stay on worth a damn. I switched to adhesive skins to protect the casing from scratches to increase resale value. It is pretty much always in a leather pouch or in a holder on my dashboard when using as GPS. (Also good protection: a large rottweiler.)
Where to buy an X1 Screen Protector? I don't see it in Phone Stores too bad.

you should be able to get one in any mobile accessory shop. however, if you are worried if the sensitivity of your touch screen will be affected, head down to a sony ericsson dealer and they should be able to hook you up with a decent one.
in fairness, 2 years with the phone, ive never used a screen protector, and used daily...and i dont hv a scratch on my screen, despite hundreds of drops on everything from tarred roads to timber floor. however a couple dollars wouldnt hurt ur pocket if u wanna get one.
i use the invisible shield the first post shows =) best i think

Metal frame ?

Who knows what the silver color frame is made of.
It seems to be some kind of metal "cap" on a plastic frame.
But what metal ?
What do you think/know about it ?
Calico
its just sprayed plastic, probably a polycarbonate

Then they have changed their production process: on some review, when the backplate is removed and they zoomed on the interior, you can clearly see the side edge of solid metal, or at least a .5 mm thick metal cap.
If you are sure of that, together with report of no-so-solid impression in hand, and comments on yellowish not so sharp screen (while the reviewers invariably praise the screen which seems bluish on all the TD2 pics posted), makes me think maybe there is 2 atches of TD2 out there.
One solid one, send to reviewers
and one shaky one, available for buy....
Scary....
...and completely unacceptable, if it is true and the devices are SO different, HTC is in deep trouble, class action is virtually certain...
EDIT: looking again at the review pictures, i am not so sure about the metal front anymore, it could well be polycarbonate with a nice metallic paint job....Disappointing, such paints usually do not age nicely, after a year or two you usually start to see the plastic under at points where u have friction (corners). And if they have a bad batch, it can even crack and peel off...I liked the metallic front for durability, but if it is just painting, I would prefer the MDA V design :-(. I can not wait till this one is out though, I'll report on the build quality when I get my TD2 next week...

Topaz screen - plastic or glass?

Is the Topaz screen plastic like the Diamond or tempered glass something LG Arena has got?
Really hope its glass, feels better than a Diamond
Plastic I think
Not concrete but I'm %99 sure of this.
It is a plastic membrane on top of glass.
Take out your stylus....
Hold the phone so you are looking flat across the screen.....
Now slowly tap and you will see the screen flex....
If you tap or press hard enough you will hear/feel the glass.....
No matter how hard (don't press too hard though) you will not come in contact with the LCD ever.....
The Efin had a plastic digitizer and it pooped out on me and I recently replaced before I bought my TD2.
That plastic membrane I beleive is what makes it so sensitive.
Might be irrelevant, but the original Diamond had a quartz glass screen, HTC made a fuss about it. But i'm not sure about the TD2.
Plastic, definitely.
I scratched mine just two days before receiving the InvisibleShield screen protector I ordered...
HTC Touch Freak is right. Many devices have a glass-screen.. But with a plastic layer over it.
The technology used on our devices is called resistive touch, that's why we have a vulnerable plastic layer on top (unfortunately)
When u look on your screen from a low angle(and with a bright light..), you see many small dots, distance pieces; they are constituent parts of this technology.
(They are needed to separate the glass layer from the plastic layer/ 4-wire-technology (I don't know how it's called in english^^))

Plastic, mate. Try to scratch it with something sharp and you will see...

Hard Plastic Shell vs Black Silicone Case?

Just wanted to get a case for my HD2...
obviously going to put a screen protector on the front, just wondering whether people would recommend a black silicone case or hard plastic shell?
I was looking at this: what you think?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....750946&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_2880wt_939
thanks
Perfect
I have one of those (or an identical generic one). My friend also has one on his HD2. It is well moulded and provides very good protection. It also protects the silver trim of the camera from damage and still allows you to use all functions, including the headphone jack. I really can't imagine a better case. All the plastic snap cases I've seen look clunky, and I think leather cases look too old-fashioned and allow more dust to get in. They also don't protect the lens as much - or at least, the ones I've seen don't.
Go for it, you can't go wrong really.
I also have a similar one. It fits great and protects well, and as said above allows all functionality properly. The only thing I can remark on is that the phone becomes slightly uglier (less prettier) on the front, but the back side looks cool. However, it is worth the protectin and not to forget, the grip. The HD2 as I experience is very slippery, which these kind of cases reduce. I'd definately have one of those at home (which I do xD) !

Displex-Good or bad?

Hey, I've been searching around xda, the interwebs and even some iphone forums(glass screen like ours?) for a solution to fix the few small hairline scratches on my hd2's screen. I've already tried tried toothpaste but to no avail. Anyhoo, I've come across this product called displex where they claim it works for the htc hd2 but on the same page claim it only works on plastic screens and to not use it on touchscreens. Sooo anyone have any experience with this product or know if it's safe? Or heck, know a for sure way to get rid of minor scratches? I can't post links since I'm still a noob but google "htc hd2 displex" and it will be one of the top results.
displex and other polishing pastes are not unrisky to use.
I used it on a hardened plastic screen (nokia 6233) and after a long polishing
time (around 10 min.) i've got the scratches out. but now you can see
that the surface is not exactly plain anymore.
I don't want zo use it on my hd2.
the surface coud be glass or an extremely hardened glas/plasitc combination.
You shoud be very careful in use of polishing materials with your hd2 .
dont use it at your hd2. I think it would look worse than before, because, as hellraiser said, its only made for plastic-screens, not for glass.
I read a few reviews on amazon which confirmed that.
Don't use it. I tried it on a magnifier glass for an old gameboy and it got totally unusable.
Ok, thanks for all the replies. Looks like I'll just have to ignore those little scratches then-better than screwing up the whole screen. In hindsight though, the scratches are far less noticeable than the series of dots on the screen so it probably won't be that tough to ignore. Would buying a screen protector make it harder to see the scratches perhaps?
Depends on your screen protector. I tried using invisible shield, which is slightly "gooey" or have a thicker sticky layer, and it filled/covered up the scratch perfectly ! Couldn't see it even in sunlight from several angles.
Only downside was that the invisible shield had a very gripy surface, and slight abrasion was building up on my poor finger. So eventually I changed to a matt screen protector. It has a thinner and dryer sticky layer. But the scratch is visible again. Well, guess it depends on what you need ..
Also, on screen polishing, I really don't think you should try it. HD2's touchscreen relies on a capacitive control to detect your finger. From wikipedia.org under touchscreens: "A capacitive touchscreen panel consists of an insulator such as glass, coated with a transparent conductor such as indium tin oxide (ITO)". If you try too hard, maybe the the conductor will be rubbed off in the process?
possibly yes. give the protector a try.
But you should use a screen protecor in every case
to prevent more scratches.
i bought one 2 weeks ago and it works perfect.
its nearly invisible an the touch-recognition works perfect.
it was from amazon, but i dont know the manufacturer, sorry
