update rom and radio - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile ROM Development

thanks to cmonex i got my rom and radio update
tried sprite back up but lost all my oprea favorites and other stuff no great hassle
im i right in thinking that once cooked roms are things like thw weather app hack, g sensor list for calender etc and other reg and cab tweaks will be built in to roms so by upgrade the rom all the great tweaks will be with it,
may be a dumb question just trying to get my head around cooked roms etc

thats the purpose of custom rom

thought it was new to WM and trying to learn about cabs v roms etc and how it all works
thanks

New User on Touch Pro

Hi all,
I am a new user to PDA phones and I have read through the wiki about this cell,
but I still have sth to ask.
1. What is Manila?
2. How can configure or add themes and tab icons in the TF3D?
Please give me a hand in starting to know more about the machine, Thx
Someone can expand or correct, this is just how I understand it to be.
1. Manilla\Rhodium = TouchFlo3d interface from HTC. It will be called TF3d as well.
Titanium = Windows Mobile 6.5 overlay that is turned on and off via Start\Settings\Today\Items\Windows Default
2. use TF3d to search. So search 'add tabs tf3d' and see if that helps.
Thanks for the answer,
I also see that there is a lot of topics about err,
upgrading the official ROMs into Custom made ROMs,
Is there anything I should notice about upgrading ROMs,
and also wt is the advantage of using 'em?

read the stickies and make sure you know what are the steps to follow to flash a rom. follow them literally. if you don't you might "brick" your phone. when u get used to flashing, the process will be easy to follow, just take your time getting used to WinMo before flashing.
Moving from a stock ROm to a Custom ROM is easy and worth the 'risk' in my opinion. You can find all you need within the Wiki to get started with the flashing of HARDSPL. You will then choose a custom ROM and then flash that ROM to your device. You will lose all data on the phone so make sure you sync before you start.
I personally am using the Energy Rom 3.0 series and I like it.
A cooked ROM or a custom ROM is created by a person (usually with a ROM kitchen) and it removes items the cook thinks are not needed and they often add in tweaks, programs and graphical enhancements.
Some people are looking for a custom ROM that makes their device fast, while others are looking to maximize their TouchFlo3D experience. I persoanlly use Energy ROM because it is Windows Mobile 6.5, it contains Titanium (the WM6.5 touch friendly interface) and because the cook put in plenty of programs and tweaks that I would do on my own.
After I install the ROM, I do go through and install all my own programs. Not every cooked ROM will match your own needs so that is when people begin cooking their own ROM within a kitchen.
I have downloaded the kitchen and attempted to cook a ROM but I find using someone else's is a bit easier.
MSVC is Microsoft Voice Command. So when you are looking for ROMS you might see that acronym.

Can someone cook clean X1 builds based on 6.5?

Now that we have all the components to cook clean X1 roms based on 6.5 I wonder why nobody has done it yet? No HTC stuff. With new builds we can have updates as if it where SE who releasing them. Also goodies from X2 can be included.
hmmm, i wonder who will too...regardless how clean they say it is you will always find some additional app you dont want that was cooked into the rom, and you wont be able to delete it after flashing
i hope the chefs here who cook clean ROMs do cook a clean rom and leave all 3rd party apps for us to add only if we want, for example, i do not use finger keyboard and i stumbled upon a clean rom with fingerkeyboard, including a few other 3rd party apps, the ROm was good, but i hate to know there is an app on my x1 that is 3rd party that i do not want and cannot remove....
it cannot be clean if you add anything 3rd party...clean means strictly M$ and SE
well thats why i am still on the R3A SEUS fed me, when 6.5 is done and we get the new panel manager and so on then i will cook my own custom rom; it will look as tho it came from SEUS
you could try:
Christian's Rom - Dutch\WWE wm 6.5.1 build 23053 - R3AA Based - "Clean" And "Full" Version Its both in Dutch and English versions
that includes fingerkeyboard! personally i wouldn't mind but you could just install the fingerkeyboard cab, then uninstall it, thus removing fingerboard and you having a completely clean wm.6.5.1 +panels!
Pure Xperia
You should try this :
Pure Series http://www.wcxxperia-nce.com/
I am quite ocd with custom roms that are overloaded with apps and TF3D which i hate and i was quite reluctant to install anything but the stock ROM but Christian's rom is now permanent on my phone.
Still no sign of a clean, I mean fully clean rom based on 6.5 using latest builds. It should be up to the user to install whatever they want. I know all the cooks on the board does a perfect job but still there is not a option for many of us outhere that still want it to be only SE with 6.5 build.

Exactly, there are no clean roms at this point, just lite versions... i do hope we can find one sometime with the wm 6.5...i prefer to install my own apps due to the fact that the 3rd party apps chefs do cook in the roms i never use

same thing, custom icons, battery enhancers and so on, is not clean, clean means everything OEM from Sony Ericsson without any tweaking and the clean stuff from the leaked M$ builds
Hey guys
You know, using Ervius kitchen, it is not THAT hard to cook your own build.
In fact I was looking for a french clean ROM and was able to do it.
I am currently running WM6.5 with build 23052, nd its running perfect.
Maybe you could give it a try, there are lots of people here who would be very pleased to give you an hand if you get stuck somewhere

Ok. I will try your cooking. Hope that it is 100 % clean and based on latest build. Looking forward to it.
cant be the latest build dude, the panels and the panel manager doesnt fit the screen properly with the latest wm 6.5 build, lets hope this is something in the build that M$ will fix soon that all 6.1 apps can auto adjust...for example resco file manager... or lets hope we can get the new panel manager from the x2 after release
Actually it is/was but the fixes have to be added in this week to clear up what is wrong with the new ui and certain things that the new ui breaks in manila...personally the latest is quite ugly and my xperia-nce rom is released with it only as a courtesy to those who like the new look...but not my preference....an older sys is used for the pure rom....if you had read before you came back to comment...the only errors with the new ui are with the manila oem based , not the pure rom....

WC

Touchflo3d CAB or 6.5 or cooked ROMs??

Once again, im a little confused...i have a brand new X1..am thinnking what should I do...
should i upgrade to WM 6.5..(I dont want a cooked ROM, iwant an official 6.5 OS that i can install, upgrade, like we do when we go to Vista to Win7 etc.
BTW: Can u provide me a link for an unofficial but clean OS)
OR
Should I go on installing a cab of a TouchFlo3d
OR
Flash my X1 with a cooked ROM (still cant understand which one)
Thanx a lot..
Personally if your even contemplating flashing your X1, you might as well go with one of the 6.5 builds, they are far superior in My Opinion to the 6.1
there are several good ones out there, so its personla choice as to which you use, I guess it depends on Features cooked in, applications, battery life, stability etc.
Flash Cooked ROM with 6.5. Recent ones are very fast due to having better drivers support as opposed to stock roms
Cab of TF3D won't be optimized.. would be sluggish
alrite i agre with what you are saying cykalu, but then again, these cooked ROMs wont be originals rite? and not only that, are they all BETA or full and final ROMs??
Just wanted to know...

They won't be original but Sony Ericsson decided not to give X1 users the latest (6.5) updates. Therefore all cooked 6.5 roms are much better than original because the chefs has included and tweaked around with X2's drivers so X1 can use them which are more optimized than SE's stuff.
Beta or no Beta, as long as they work it's good. look at Windows 7 RC2, it's beta but it was basically the final after a few minor patches..
If you aren't a user who likes fiddling with your device I recommend you stick with stock ROMs. Cooked ROMs usually have bugs which range from minor to game-ending (e.g. the reset bug that seems to exist in every cooked ROM).
Personally I'm not a fan of Touchflo (especially the Leo version), it makes the inconsistent WM interface even more inconsistent.
If you really want WM6.5, flash gtrab's 5.07 ROM and install the X2 cabs from the themes and applications forum. It'll be as close as you can get to a WM6.5 ROM upgrade. There are only two bugs with this ROM that I've found, one of which is fixed by installing the X2 dialer (the other one is the reset bug that every ROM seems to have). Just sync with MS My Phone or something to minimise the impact.

I know exactly how you feel about modifying your new xperia...I was like this one month ago...My xperia is only 3 months old so I was little nervous....So I went through all the flashing tutorials in here and also downloaded BioVolt's video tutorials...And one month back I flashed my xperia for the first time...I flashed it with the Xperia Unoffcial release ROM, I did all the steps exactly as it was mentioned in the tutorials and my xperia was flashed successfully...but after that I tried to do the hard reset, I wasnt able to do hard reset twice...I thought I bricked my phone ....i was little panic...I once again went through the tutorials and done it third time...This time I was able to do a hard reset successfully and my phone booted up with the new Unofficial Xperia 6.5...after that I flashed 2 or 3 ROMs and finally sticked up with Sonblack's SB20 release which I found to be stable, fast and attractive with its touchflow manila interface...I dint had any weird experience with this one...

Are all the 6.5 ROMs available here are BETAs?

I am a little confused (as usual)...
1.Many HTC phones have a 6.5 runinng, but also have Manila 2.X rite?
2. I want an original OS upgrade from 6.1 to 6.5 (NOT BETA or cooked ROMs plz)
3. what would be better:
the home screen of HTC phones Manila 2.5 or .6 OR
the WinmO 6.5 home screen...
(basically i just want to know the links of an original, OEM OS 6.5)
Thanx a ton!!

Hey yaar...Just keep im mind that there is no official 6.5 upgrade for Xperia X1 till now...It was told like SE will not be releasing an OS upgrade for xperia x1...So if you want to upgrade you can try those cooked roms out there...There are a lot of them out there you can try and stick on one that you like...If you like the manil 2.5 interface you can try Sonblack's releases, I think a new one will be releasing today...There are lot of other ROMs based on manila...
There's no official 6.5 update, so if you want an official release you're stuck with the original 6.1 build.
Your choices are simple:
a) Stay on 6.1
or
b) Try one of the excellent (unofficial) ROMs on the site. You can always go back to your official ROM if you can't find one you like.
Just try some.
Each UI has something which you like or dislike
1. Manila:
- Eye candy
- Easier to access programs
but:
- Need more ram
- Manila 2.5 doesn't support landcape
- Camera works not right
2. Default 6.5 UI:
- Quick
- Need less ram
but:
- harder to access programs
- not change much compare to the 6.1 one
no no..u guys didnt get me,
I just want an unofficial but UNTOUCHED ROM..i dont want it to be cooked, like the ones we get for computers on torrents..
even they are unofficial, but they are full and final..that kinnda thing, a clean installation file...

no offense meant...but as you are posting in the rom section, why don't you start reading there as well?
there's killer8nl (christians), gtrab (pure windows), spikegotti (unoff) and who knows how many more with clean roms (most based on X1, some on other devices), sounds like what you are looking for and most of them are on page 1 too...just choose one
Spikegotti's ROM (unoff) seems to be the cleanest version. search for it and flash it.
Cheers!
thanx guys....DrakenKorin, point taken..
i will look for cleanest ROM...also, how does the OS adjust to the hardware??
Like, the OS running in X2 is also 6.5..the one running in HTC HD also is (perhaps) 6.5..so which one should i download and flash??
also, wil the panel interface be wiped out...or, shud i simply download X2 clean ROM??
yeah, both of them(x2 and HTC HD2) are using 6.5
x2 specs is same with x1, you can down the x2(cooked room) to flash. Because x2 hasn't released yet.
Anyway, if you looking for x1 clean room, you should check unoff version or pure one.
just one question...on the killer8nl's tutorials, it says i need to HardSPL...then it says the mirco SD method..am i supposed to do both or simply put the thing in my SD card and go ahead (volume down+power button) and go ahead...??
BTW: what does "doing HardSPL" mean..it means back up rite???

hardspl is strictly mandatory and what you have to do first, otherwise no ROM update possible!
then you can choose whether you take custom_ruu or sd method
I prefer sd, that way you are more flexible and don't need to sync with PC
hardspl is a second program loader stored on your device, nothing to do with backup
there are tutorials for everything (all sticky)
Hard-SPL
custom ruu method
sd card method
how to flash
always hard reset afterwards
Ok..so how do i get the X2 OS on my X1..(i know im gonna see a lot of xperts fume with this question)
DrakenKorin...thanx for your help..i just realized that even though many phones have 6.5 OS, their interfaces vary from device to device..i just saw the X2 review again and decided i want that OS..its superb, (i didnt like the tile interface)..so now, again where do i get this OS?? (as before, clean and [un] Official)
thanx a ton once again!
2. I want an original OS upgrade from 6.1 to 6.5 (NOT BETA or cooked ROMs plz)
............................................................................................................
there aren't any beta roms here anymore dude, ALL 6.5 roms you find here (meaning the recent ones) are completed builds, newer builds are just updates to the previous
there aren't anything known as and un-cooked rom as in not cooked, it must be cooked/compiled in order to be a rom, because the files and folders from microsoft must be compiled with OEM stuff and other goodies to make it a flashable ROM
if you mean you need something clean as if it came from SEUS, then try any two of my roms on my sig
WOW!!
i got spikegotti to reply to me....thanx a lot man...it feels really good to speak to some experts like u anyways, when i search on XDA X2 ROM, i mainly get all the BETAs...
1. there is a RAW dump(and it strictly says for the experts)
2.then there is a ROM uploaded....
so cant figure out which one is the full and final one.
spikegotti..i just did a lil research on my own and figured out that i want the X2 ROM, as is...is that possible..reading the pages ofthe forum, lot of small things need to be installed even after a 6.5 update..so is there a way i can get the whole ROM, as is in the X2....???
once again, Thanx a ton!
There will be NO full X2 roms published until the X2 is released...anything on here...including the dump made by Gtrab are not complete as the dump was from a prototype device...
Regards,
WC
There is no full and final X2 on X1 Rom. The only X2 Rom available is Jerpelea's X2 Test rom, but as the name says it's still in test, and it drains your battery in a day.
Try UnOff X1.5 it has most of the X2 stuff on it and is wm6.5, and work quitte smooth.
Personally i like X-2-Touch, It has a stable manilla 2.1 interface and wm6.1 but with the x2 stuff included, works very fast.
Thanx Aerox912 and wild child....i also wanted to know of X1 and X2 are similar when it comes to hardware???
So, if in the near future i upgrade it to X2's OS, there wont be any hardware issue rite??
X2 isnt out yet???
the date was November 6, and a user has already put up a video of unboxing his new X2..why cant we ask him simply to upload the OS??
What say??
Has been delayed....my distributor usually gets them asap and they have been bumped back till beginning of 2010...yes they are similar in hardware....it was a prototype he got....not retail version....retail version would NOT delete all installation files after hard reset...counter productive...he did dump his os....but is not full dump...

WC

also note that there will be changes in the rom of the x2 from what is in the x2s which were distributed...reason is that the x2 is in the surgery room at sony ericsson lol, from the xperiancers blog
"Hi All – Over the last couple of weeks there has been a few, OK more than a few rumours that the X2 is going to be delayed until January and I’m sure it will not come as a surprise when we say that these are well founded.
The software worked fine but when we started integrating it with some of the network specific apps it threw up a few issues which we’re working to fix.
It’s all minor tweaks really (extending the battery life and speeding up aspects of the software), but we want to be sure that when we ship this it is as good as it should be and that you don’t have to constantly upgrade the software as we iron out these wrinkles.
So… we’re launching first week of January. Really sorry if you were looking forward to getting hold of one before then but it will be worth it when we get there.
Thanks for your continued interest in the site.
Aaron"
i suspect this came directly from aaron duke who is the x2 brand manager
so, let's wait and see what is new in the weeks to come

I don't mean to complicate this thread, but I would consider any and all 6.5.1 based ROMS beta considering MS hasn't official released it and there are absolutely no official devices running it. In short, the version of WM6.5 with the start button at the top is no longer a work in progress, but the version with the start button at the bottom for as much as we know is a work in progress, and thus a beta version.

Point to updating ROM?

I have been browsing through the forums here for a couple of days, and I see a lot of ROMs for everything from WM6.5 to Google Android. I also see threads about updated radios that I have not read much into yet. Presently I am quite happy with my phone, WM6.1 + SPB 3.5 shell. My Kaiser is as follows:
ROM: 3.57.502.2 WWE (07/17/08)
Radio: 1.65.21.18
So I was just wondering, is there any practical advantage to a new ROM other than having a new interface and/or new software?
Well, cooked ROMs are generally MUCH faster than regular stock ones, and they also have more features or programs that are usefull compared to the stock bloatware that is a normal ROM.
Well, personally I understand your point here and your concern about what is the added value to flash/update to a new rom version. My personal suggestion to you is that you back up your current data and try a couple of cooked roms and that you experience if there is some improvement in the new rom that you picked.
If you are happy, leave the phone alone.

Just be sure to remember that if your phone is still under warranty , that flashing a custom rom will void this warranty. If your phone breaks or crashes, AT$T and HTC will not fix it with a custom rom or spl on it. There are ways to get it back to warranty-able condition, but it is not as easy as just reflashing the stock rom.
