WM 6.5 Build 23008 - Booting Problems - XPERIA X1 ROM Development

I am having a really hard time with cooking WM 6.5 roms. Everything seems to build OK, and the flash goes fine with no errors. However, on the first boot after flashing, I get the welcomehead screen and hear the sound that plays when screen alignment starts, but the screen alignment message does not come up and fails to start. Then after a while, the screen goes white.
Funny thing is, once in awhile, screen alignment will actually start and then customization runs fine. But this is only about 20% of the time.
Been searching the forums but can't find any clues or answers.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
Thanks so much.

Can anyone help?

What have you changed in the os/drivers/configuration/tweaks??

I added some pretty standard registry tweaks, such as sms notifications, file, font and system cache, disabling push internet, and so on. I've never had a problem with these tweaks on 6.1, but this is my first stab at 6.5. Like I said, it has booted up correctly a couple of times, but 90% of the time I get stuck on the welcomehead screen. By the way, I am cooking a Topaz 2.06 rom.
What kinds of changes would cause this?
Thanks for responding.

ok but what are the "and so on"....have you changed any of the drivers? Manila is a strange beast so to speak....seems to me one of the configs your trying to implement isnt agreeing when it goes to load.Good way to trace what is doing this is to one by one remove the tweaks, reg edits etc., its time consuming but it will tell you which one or group of things are causing this to occur....without knowing exactly what things your implementing its kind of hard to troubleshoot. My first test manila rom was a disaster....lol

OK. Thanks a lot. Now that I think about it, I've added a boat load of registry entries. I guess one or more of them are causing this.

Sorry there is no easy solution to this....Good luck....

NoSleep!!.CAB - Stops the screen blanking during calls - WORKS!! [02/08/2008]

Hi
I made this little CAB to install the registry tweaks that prevent your screen from blanking. I can confirm that on my Orange Diamond, using Bepe's .97 this actually works, whereas using Advanced Config didn't solve the issue.
The CAB file is uninstallable should you wish to remove it.
Thanks,
Shinobi_UK
Can you explain what´s in that cab?

Nothing new here...
You could also easily do it with Diamond Tweak

Actually i found that using DT didn't work either, and I also find it more convenient to apply the registry changes with a cab file, rather than having to install an app I don't use and then make a load of clicks.
If you prefer to do it using a tweaking app then this cab isn't for you. The only reason I posted it is because I use it myself.

Four registry tweaks, and a text file. Nothing sinister.

Well actually it's been very easy to achieve by taking registry snapshots, and then using diff on a linux box to find the changes, then import them into a cab file.
So thanks for wishing me luck but it's not required.
Sarcasm breeds sarcasm and frankly i'm slightly ammused that on a forum designed to help users share tips and software, a simple CAB i use after new ROM flashes has created such a hostile response.
I'm not attempting to replace or belittle your tool monte, it's certainly streets ahead of what i can do at the moment, however as bepe's ROM lets me run cabs at build this way is nice and easy for me to ensure that if I need to do a hard reset I can reinstate my registry tweaks during the reset without having to install any additional software.

I find it annoying to have to unblank the screen to use the keypad for things like phone banking and voicemail.
The registry tweaks in Advanced Config did not work on my phone either, but this cab did the job. Thanks shinobi_uk
THIS is effing amazing
Been looking for something like this for a looong time, cheers
Brilliant, I'd tried the registry tweaks in the tweaks thread, and advancedconfig without any luck and this cab worked perfectly.
I haven't tried DiamondTweak, looks interesting though.
This works perfectly. Big Thanks!

It's not that bad, it just annoys me when I'm phoning numbers where you have a number menu system to get through.
It's strange that it's something no other WM phones I've used have done, yet theres no menu option to disable it.

This CAB file is flawed, because it causes unnecessary battery drain.
It's wrong to make the screen never go to sleep during a phone call.
If you'll think about it for a moment, during a call we never really need the screen to be active for more than 1 minute or so, from the last time we touched it. If you are calling a digital voice machine (either your voicemail or anything), 99.999% of the time it won't take more than 1 minute between key presses.
The ideal tweak should just make the screen behave like when you're not in a call, meaning the screen reduces brightness after ~30 seconds, and shuts down after ~1 minute. In order to be 100% on the safe side, you could make it shut down after 2 minutes from last key press. BUT, making it never go to sleep is simply a waste of battery if you're doing for example a 30 minutes conversation.
center button and screen back on
My preference is to have the screen come on, see who it is, then allow it to go blank. If you need it to come back on, i just push the center of the scroll, enter button or whatever its called, and the screen comes back on. (at least it does on mine) . I like it that the screen blanks so it will save battery.
But i dont think we should discourage anyone from making any kind of cab if they desire.

Still, it is unnoying to press that damn key every 5 seconds. The screen should shut down after 1-2 minutes, but NOT never.

Thats abosolute BS. It is NOT flawed. If you dont want your screen to stay on just - dont use the CAB. I think most users around here are smart enought to know that keeping the screen on during a call takes a battery hit. If they use the CAB as I intend to they are willing to accept this.

Let's say "Official"...

Hi everyone! I recently bought a T-mo Wing on ebay and as it's my first pda phone I did exactly the same every newbie does: I've messed things up.
The first problem was that I started to download and install every app I thought I would use. Soon realized that IN FACT I would use 10% of all that ans started uninstalling things. Till there, I was good, but then I found pocket mechanic pro and its "registry tweaker & cleanup" killed my voice command and made the phone loop forever on bootup unless I remove the memory card. Besides, I have memory shortage problems and lots of things I will never use like myFaves, t-zones, tons of icons and silly images .... So my questions are ....Is there any T-mo "official" ROM with all the T-mo stuff removed?? I don't have problems with the rest of the apps and bricking the phone is not an option: I'm latin american!! used wing was really a financial effort for me!! The second question would be: Is there any way to restore the registry keys that pocket mechanic erased?? I know the answers might have been already posted but I've been browsing the forums for about 6 hours with no success ..... Can anyone help me on this??
Thanks

The easiest way to go back is to do a hard reset. (Hold the two softkeys and press the soft reset key.) As far as "official" ROM, there isn't, but there are a lot of third party ROMs. If you hardSPL your phone (which runs the slight risk of bricking your phone) then you brick-PROOF your phone.
Wow!! I can't believe you ...I mean YOU, took som time to answer my post!! I read lots of stuff here made by you. Thanks man! I'm really honored.
The thing is that if I hard reset my wing all the T-mo stuff will be there again, and some of it is non removable. There are lots of pictures and icons that I won't ever use. What if I take the latest T-mo ROM and delete all that without modifying anything else?? I mean, no t-zones, no my faves and no TONS of avatar pictures.... would that be possible?? Again, thanks for answering

lol. Thanks for thinking so highly of me.
It's possible, you have to dump the ROM and then recook it, though.
You could also wait for my SuperJustKitchen and build your own custom ROM. ^_^ But either way, you HAVE to HardSPL. There are no ROMs that can be flashed with the stock SPL other than the stock one.
That's exactly what I'm going to do!! I'll wait for your SuperJustKitchen and remove all unneeded stuff from the latest official T-mo Rom. In the meantime, I will try to recover my voice command without hard resetting just for fun. I really don't need it because my spoken english is horrible and by the time it worked, almost never recognized what I said . Anyway, it really annoys me that a supposed registry cleanup made by pocket mechanic messed up the system that way. The Wizcode forum has a solution that actually works just for the full version of MVC. Nor upgrade nor OEM are fixed by that "patch". I would like to know if there's any way to decompile it and make the corrections manually. It's supposed to restore some deleted registry keys but I couldn't find wich ones ....Would that be possible??
If it's a cab, it can turned into a OEM/EXT package which lets you see the registry keys by themselves.
Sorry for the delay....
Hi again! It was not a .CAB .... It was a [email protected] .exe file. Tried to open with winRAR and 7zip but with no success. Finally i found the dump of the .reg file that voice command uses. I was not able to import it (there are some path errors and I know NOTHING about reg scripting), so i had to write all the keys and values manually. It worked!!!! After a soft reset voice command was there! After that I disabled it because my english sucks and VC could not understand what i said ..... but still works!! Still waiting for your kitchen to make a new ROM for my wing .... Thanks again for taking the time to answer me ...
I don't know well, but...
Maybe you can have good luck in hard-resetting and do not enter into customization, but soft-resetting.
Another way is going into Extended ROM and analizing the .cab files there, and erasing some of them (better if you save them into another place).
Please wait till someone "better than me" will confirm those data I told.
On the other way, if you don't like T-Mo ROMs the best you can do is Hard-SPL and flashing a new radio+ROM. You by yourself realized Ivan has good ROM's. And the one I'm using now is also good.

@chefs: reward offer for "task-snoozing"

Dear Chefs,
thank you for all great work you have done so far!
I use the Energy ROM for about two months and I'm stunned about all the great features he provide.
However, there is one thing I can't stand: The lack of appointment- and task snoozing other then 5 minutes. This makes the remind function almost useless.
My German t-mobile branded TP2 (called: MDA Vario V) came with the option to snooze appointments and tasks by a selectable time. So I could choose remind me in one or half Hour for example or one day and many other options, rather than dismiss it over and over again every 5 minutes. This is really bugging me.
I found a fix from crackwhore but it seems to be not compatible with the current windows mobile 6.5 ROMs.
Because it is so important to me and, as I noticed, to many, many others I want to post a reward and invite everybody who want this feature to join me by posting how much you are willing to donate to the person who find a solution and share it with the community
A proper solution would be a fix that works for the latest generation of WM6.5 ROMs and it would be great to have it already cooked into the popular ROMs, including Energy ROM.
So if somebody finds a solution, everybody who joined me is asked to donate the promised amount to the person who provided the solution.
I start off with a offer of 10$
Feel free to join me and make suggestion.
And please be true to your word: Don't offer something you are not willing to donate.
Current Offers (25.10.2009 01:25 UTC):
10 US-$
and
0 €
Why dont you ditch MS with another commercial application in the market? Couldn't you able to find one? I dont remember it but there was a program like this. Google it I suggest.
You can set the "reminder" time as any minutes/hours/days when you add an appointment. Am I missing something here?
NVM, I solved it! I was able to replace the new Notification.dll that handles the notification bubbles with an old, stock one. See the next post for the solution I made!
Question
Did your stock German ROM have the notification manager, where you'd click the taskbar, and it brings up that full screen? And also, did it have the skinned notifications, like the EnergyROM does? Please just describe exactly how the stock ROM handled the notifications, describe it visually.
Information
I researched this for 5 hours, and I was trying to do this: I wanted to make the Notification Panel remain (Full screen when you click on Taskbar), BUT, I wanted to use the standard Windows Mobile notification popups, because those allow you to snooze better. Well, that's not possible, from what I could tell. It's either all or nothing, you can't mix Microsoft's and HTC's notification system.
Solution
So, you have to disable the entire thing, which means you won't have the finger friendly notification system when tapping on the top taskbar. You can find the registry to disable Notification Manager here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4125405&postcount=3

Maybe I should have waited longer, for the bounty to increase! Nah, I did this mostly for myself, but it did end up taking 5 hours! I hate registries!
How I Created It
I found the old NotificationLayout.dll, and used that one for handling the notification bubbles! This brings back the old WinMo notification style popups, but it also keeps the finger friendly notification panel! Win-win!
Imagine how fast the world is, I wish you could solve my break off with GF such a fast.
Have Fun, Cheers
Sunny

FYI, crackwhore's is a better solution it doesn't eliminate the repeat function so what happens you get the alarm one time which was just as big a concern that I've had with some of the ROMs.

Hi,
sorry for the delay, but university was keeping me extremely busy this week.
However I'm glad you found a solution. It's so unimaginably convenient to be able to snooze the alarm!
However would it be possible to add some options? There is still room on the display for one option isn't it?
Very handy would be having options like four and twelve hours (half day).
I would rather surrender 10 minutes while already having 5 and 15 minutes.
(or maybe better: surrender 15 minutes while keeping 10)
However the current stage of development is already great and of cause I will stand my word of donating 10 bucks.
I invite everybody who like this fix to also support him since he was fair enough of not "waiting" for the bounty to increase first and he's doing a great job with his website anyway.
Best Regards, Time
PS: You are talking about other - already existing - solutions? I only found crackwhores fix and didn't get it to work. Well now I have a great one-click-solution I won't surrender ... would be just interesting to know.

Yea, flash the stock German ROM, and see how that operates. It'd be very interesting if they kept the advanced snooze options while keeping the slick notification style too.
I think that editing the DLL's is impossible though, but I guess it'd be worth a try. My initial goal was to keep the skinned notifications but add the snoozing. That'd be the optimal goal, and I will try to see if that can be done!

Well.....
First, download This File, unzip it, and place the DLL in the \Windows directory of your phone.
Now, here's where it may be different, apparently. Using a registry editor (like PHM Registry), try to find the string that is called CustomUIDLL and contains NotificationLayout.dll.
That string key should be located under HKLM/System/Shell/Notification/OEM, however since the CAB didn't work, Valkyrie must have changed the location of the registry key. See if you can find it. Once you do, change the string value to: "NotificationLayoutOld.dll"
Hopefully that'll get it working!

OK.
Under HKLM/System/Shell/Notification/OEM i have one folder named "reminder" and 3 other items named "default", " customUIDLL", and "userdefaultUI"
if i click on customUIDLL the string already reads "NotificationLayoutOld.dll" ( iguess from when I applied the .cab file) so there is nothing to change!
Also here is a screenshot of the contents in the HKLM/System/Shell/Notification/OEM/reminder folder that I mentioned above
should i be editing the autodismissextendedduration file?
BTW I forgot to mention that when i install the cab file instead of "snooze' at the bottom bar I get the "menu' on the right and also another symbol on the left (like a phone with an 'x' next to it" but if i click on any of them the notification goes away and does not come back
So in essence the .cab works (because it points it to something else) but the location it point to, doesnt contain the necessary file to show up when you click on the the "menu' icon or the other icon that comes up SORRY I DIDNT MENTION THAT EARLIER BUT I WASNT AWARE OF IT TILL NOW.....

SMS - 2-5 seconds to load cursor, slow input from keyboard

Anyone have the problem where when you select a contact and then text it takes 2-5 seconds to load the screen with the cursor? And the cursor itself is pretty slow to get input from the keyboard.
I'm pretty sure my keyboard itself needs cleaning as I've seen in other threads. However in Win 6.1 and now 6.5 with autocomplete of sentences on or off I still see the huge delay before I can type. Something feels wrong about this, anyone else experience this and have any advice?
usually turning off any autocomplete or t9 should speed up typing delay
well - stuff like that happens in Windows Mobile
theres a registry cab file somewhere here that fixes this.. do a search
Hmm yeah I have text correction set to None so no prediction or sugesstion.
I'm running windows mobile 6.5 is there anywhere else I could go.
Just counted now and from the time the screen acknowledge my click on text to the white screen and cursor loading is 7 seconds. My god windows mobile grrrr!
Everything else on the phone is pretty fast but wow 7 seconds!
royalbloodvi - I replied this morning before seeing your reply.
I've looked for cabs, registry tweak etc searching here and on google and I haven't had any luck. I've tried w/o quotes stuff like "SMS slow registry tweak" "txt slow" etc etc but no luck any pointers?

Hey, not sure if you tried this, but there's also a cab, or registry hack which disables the text "counter" in sms which also decreases the delay.
Here's there XDA thread which links to the original posting at ppcgeeks:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581901
I have it cooked into my rom and it does help. I don't even miss the counter cause everyone I know either has unlimited text, or doesn't text at all.
Also, whenever you want to send a text make sure your Xperia is in landscape before going into the sms program or hitting reply. It helps a bit there too.
hope all that helps.
peace

Also, whenever you want to send a text make sure your Xperia is in landscape before going into the sms program or hitting reply. It helps a bit there too.
hope all that helps.
peace

yea thats the one..
Thanks I ran the cab and followed the directions about thread_sms.htm
All I saw in thread_sms.htm was <Inbox:ComposeBodyCount> which I assume is not the count of characters and my unexperia rom already removed that.
Having it in landscape mode prior to clicking someone's name definitely helps although first time I do it there's still some 5 secs or so of delay. But if I go back to another contact there's none. I'll keep playing a bit but thanks much better.
Day by day I will actually make my phone usable!
Edit: Also it's great how original X1 users have to wait and use cooked roms to get features from X2 to actually make the X1 "ok"

HELP... I ****ed up!

I am a normal user with pretty ok hang on general computing, but I got in way above my head. I sincerely hope someone will give aid.
Originally I was just looking for a way to 1) get my "tasks" to show on the HTCs interface start screen together with calender appointments and a way to record my phonecalls.
During my search I found some tweak-pack that did lord knows what. Among other things it added the options to record phonecalls, but only in wav and on main memory though.
Unfortunately it also made manila work in landscape mode, which I dont like. It flips over everytime I tilt my phone the slightest and I see no use for it actually.
I then downloaded some registry editor and tampered with some "enable landscape" setting under local user/software/manila and changed the value to false". After rebooting my phone still tilts and I cant find the command anymore in the registry. What did I do wrong?
I even uninstalled the tweak pack, which just made the record option dissapear again but the landscape rotating persists.
I also realized that adding the command again is easier said than done. Appearntly it takes much more than just writing it as I need to insert strings, dwords and whatsnot, and I have absolutely no clue about what is what.
Now Im even worse out than before. I have no record option any more, and the manila interface is still tilting. I still havent found a tweak or app that can add tasks to the manila homescreen.
Can someone help me disable the landscape rotaing, point me to a crash course for "phone-tampering illeterals" or recommend some way to get the two sought for features? Especially the call-recording preferably to memcard and mp3 is highly needed. First priority is to stop the screen from tilting though.
Oh please.. Help me out /cry..

Unfortunately if you tampered with the registry and did not save a backup, you will need to hard reset to get it back.
As Mohamed stated, TD2Tools will fix your rotation issue.
As far as incall recorder, here's the cab but you'll have to search on how to configure it.
I have not used it, so I cannot verify its functionality.
**Also, please edit your title to remove profanity, as it can only be implied here.... **
Hi,
I can verify- it works.
I use it and Resco Audio Recorder (paid) to record it in format i want (MP3 too) and there i want (phone or memory card)
1. Hard Reset
2. Install a ROM which has option to record a call
Thanks for the help guys. I never tried installing roms. Is there a list somewhere and some instructions on how to do it? Is it reversable without loosing everything on your phone?
With the tools recommended earlier will fix the rotation, the worst problem is averted. I still hope for some way to get a todo-list on my main screen without the cost of uninstalling Manila. But maybe thats not possible?

Read the wiki for flashing for newbies.
It is not reversable and you will loose all your data as well as your warranty if you screw it up.
Not many have been able to flash HardSPL lately which is the precursor to flashing a ROM so good luck with that, you'll probably end up having to pay for it, but it is well worth it.
All questions about flashing should be direct to that thread for maximum exposure and make sure to search and read first before you ask.
There are options on your current ROM to install a Second Today program and toggle between Manila and 2nd Today where you can add your todo list.
Note: not every registry hack is restorable by a hard reset.
