For some reason my G1 mic is too sensitive. It picks up every noise around me. Everytime I make or answer a call when my fan is on or cars are passing by the person on the line cannot understand anything. Is there any work around this? Is my phone somehow broken? I've had this problem for awhile.
It seems like the mic volume is proportional to the earpiece volume. From what other people tell me, it makes a big difference if I am one tick down from max volume.
Did you do the audio hack.
I haven't done the audio hack. I am using a hacked rom. I recently switched to the CyanogenMod. Before the Cyanogen I used the Dude's Cupcake rom.

Did the problem exist on the past roms?
Not that I remember.
I would wipe and reflash.
I'm having the same issue. ever since switching to superD everyone I talk with asks where the heck I am bc its always so NOISY even if im just in my car. Any thoughts on how to get some kind of noise canceling hack? or other suggestions? thanks

im new to the rooting G1 thing, i have mno volume control while in calls and its REALLY annoying and also quite loud. im running cyanogenmod 4.2.9.1 and hadnt noticed this problem until today.
please, if anyone can help id REALLY appreciate it
EDIT: it seems like the volume goes from loud (when turned all the way "down") to louder (all the way "up") and theres a nearly unnoticeable difference in volume

I have experienced the same problem on the same ROM but never thought it was that big of an issue to start my own thread. But since you started on, I guess I will jump on the bandwagon. Sometimes the volume control problem is sporadic and it will work, but I havent really noticed when the times are that the volume works (like after a reboot). I'll try to take notice, also, I'm not sure a logcat would help otherwise I would provide it on the CM thread. Anybody want to weigh in on this and see if its worth raising the issue on the CM thread? If I can't produce a logcat then I doubt Cyanogen will be able to reproduce the problem and therefore will not be able to address the situation.
BTW, I also have Meltus's latest AudioHack. I figured I'd mention it since it has to do with the volume.
Hamtoast, do you have the AudioHack?
i dont have the audiohack, though i thought about getting it after i noticed this problem. i wasnt sure if itd help though and didnt want to shell out the $2 or however much it costs. my volume is otherwise fine and i have no other issues with it (like being too quiet, which is why most people get the audiohack to my understanding).
this issue we are experiencing is of course not of major importance and doesnt interfere with use, but personally i adjust volume regularly while on the phone, depending on my location and who im talking to. its rather inconvenient not being able to do it.
Okay, so the whole slight volume change was false, there is absolutely zero difference in volume during calls. I read somewhere that it could be an issue with the radio. i was planning on getting the newest radio and danger spl soon so as soon as i get a new sd card ill be testing that to see if the radio is the issue. i will also be trying a hero rom so if CM is the problem i will find that out.
I have a similar problem where my phone is one step from maximum volume (in call) it will not go up to max unless I press volume down them go up. I do not have the audio hack fyi. I guess it may be worth bringing up for cyano to prehaps work on because we r all running his rom with and without audio hack and having problems with volume. I am sure that others are havimg similar problems aswell.
I have the exact same problem. I am going to have to go to a different ROM because of this my phone is new and talking to most people is ear splitting.
i guess ill bring it up in a cyano forum or send a message or something. it certainly is annoying, and it does seem to be related to the ROM.
i dunno if you all are having this issue or if youve noticed or not but it could be related... anyway, if im using headphones and get a text or email or phonecall (anything requiring some sort of notification) i lose all sound to my phone until i reboot it. i checked the builds and it said he addressed some headset issue in 4.2.9.1 but it seems to be there still. just wonderin if anyone noticed that.
ill be looking into cyano forums and trying to find a fix.
@HamToast,
I have mostly noticed just general sound loss. Not anything really related to the headset. Notifications will drop out, phone won't ring sometimes, volume control problems etc. For example, right now, no matter how much I adjust the volume, the sound coming from the screen clicks are always the same volume.
Also, I have the latest radio and the Danger SPL so I'm not sure if that has any bearing on the sound issue. My signature is up to date with the exception of running both the latest CM build as well as the latest Amon_RA recovery image.
aw you have the latest radio and danger spl? im running older radio/spl and was hoping an upgrade would help
i wonder what the issue is with this sound buginess... i went to the newest CM 4.2.10.1 and it was so slow with a considerable amount of hangtime in certain apps, so i went back to 4.2.9.1. the sound issues werent fixed in x.10 or x.10.1
Hello All,
I searched first by the way :-/
Recently my Nexus has had its earpiece too loud for both Incoming and Outgoing Calls.
At first I thought it had something to do with the radio, so I downgraded. It actually worked on the first call but after that it was loud as heck even on the lowest volume.
I tried to retrace my steps with my applications next, but nothing that would point to the earpiece. The last apps installed updated where mostly games like Fruit Ninja and Aliens vs. Humans, so I think we can rule out that.
The specs in my sig should be up to date.
The only variable that has changed other than the ones listed above is the fact that I recently bought a Jawbone Icon Bluetooth Headset. But to my memory, this issue began before that.
Can't find a solution anywhere cause it seems most people have an issue with the phone being too soft lol.
I'm really looking for some help guys. I'm just short of wiping the phone clean and reinstalling CM6 and my apps. If that dosen't work I'll have to use the warranty I guess. Had the phone from about Sept 10 I believe.
Let me know if I missed anything guys. All ideas are welcomed to fix this issue.
It's probably because of CM. CM uses a audio boost kernel by default, so I'm guessing that's the problem. Try installing no audio boost kernel to see if it solves the issue.
yeah if you are using cyanogen ROM, they added an audio boost hack long ago. on cyan 5.0.8 the audio boost was so loud that over 50% volume started to distort the speaker and kill your ears. so in later releases they split the difference and lowered it somewhat.
but the boost has always been there. the only likely possibility is that you recently started enabling DSP settings like compression or the EQ, which would suddenly now make things way louder.
Wow thanks guys. Had no clue that CM had an audio boosted kernel. Guess I'll be flashing something else for the while. Something as close to vanilla I guess.
Oh, I also checked the DSP settings, everything was off but was worth a shot.
Thanks again for the replies!
Just to let anyone with the same issue know, I found away around it. I installed one of Wildmonks kernels without the audio fix.
Kernel 2.6.35.10 to be exact. I get to keep my cyan features and have a decent volume ear piece too. Yay!
Good work. It's funny cause most people complain this phone is too quiet. If only they see this post!
HI All,
I've noticed for some time now that before I flash a new ROM, when I go back to stock JF6 the audio in the boot up screen will blow your doors off. After flashing CWM, the audio is there but it is must less pronounced. I've also noticed that while using the speakerphone or the earpiece during regular calls, I struggle to hear the caller on the other end. It's fine before I flash CWM.
Anyone run into this before and if so, what can be done about it?
Thanks in advance!
Dan
I too have been wondering about the volume. I thought it was the rom I was running. I'm currently on phoenix 4.5 with firebird 2 v0.7 kernel. It seems like my volume is lower when I call another cell but fine if I call a land line.

i noticed this too. i use speakerphone alot, and it IS quieter now i use custom roms, and i use speakerphone MORE NOW because the earpeice is hard to hear.
Fix for Low Ear Peice abd Speaker Volume
I am not a programmer but I was wondering with all the talent on this site why is it impossible to have a fix for the terrible in-call volume the Captivate has. I have tried the settings in the service menus, but havent seen anything worth while.
Non of those settings stay past a reboot anyway.
The phones hardware is able to output the louder sound, I dont understand why we cant fix the low in-call volume on the earpeice and the speaker phone?
HELP!!!!!!
this post beat you by a few hours and is a little more specific/accurately worded (your post isnt a fix)

Thread merged with a similar one. I think the poster above U is asking a question (interrogative icon) and not stating he is posting a fix.
Cheers,
I noticed that it's CWM that is killing the audio (for me at least) before I flash a new ROM.
Hi everyone,
I'm experiencing problems with the volume of my microphone when I'm in a call.
The persons at the other end of the call can only hear me very silent.
The problems are only exists with the standart phone app, when I'm using a third party app (like sipdroid) my volume is fine...
I'm using Cyanogen 7.0.3 on my Nexus One
Is there a fix for this Problem?
With the stock ROM I don't have this problems but I need a ROM with trackball wake because my power button fails.
I can't RMA my Phone to HTC right now, because I'll be not at home in the next three weeks. Therefore I need my mobile phone with me.
I'd use an other ROM which has TB wake support and no microphone issues but at a quick glance through the forums I couldn't find a suiting one.
Thanks for your efforts to help me
hey, i have a similar problem but i noticed that using different kernel affect the microphone. I'm a noob to this so im not entirely sure if kernel is related to microphone.
Well basically im running miui rom 1.5.6 right now and i was using redstar kernel 38.4 and then i upgraded it to redstar kernel 38.5. Then i called my girlfriend and she could barely hear me. Then i reverted back to 38.4 and she hears me now much louder but not the clarity isn't as good.
You using DT a2sd by any chance?
Damn, my phone froze today at work and I had to pull the battery.
Now I can't power it on again due to the not working power button...
Battery trick doesn't work either.
So I guess I have to take the bitter pill and RMA it right now.
Holy sucks! What's the battery trick...just incase.
Can anyone suggest any 'good' solution? kernel or otherwise to fix this $#@$# 'bug' of low in-call volume in Nexus One??
Would really appreciate all the help!
If people hear you very quiet - look up the mod to disable noise cancellation. If the problem will disappear with noise cancellation disabled - it means your 2nd mic is faulty and needs replacement.

Nope, people hear me well. Its that I cannot hear well. Specially in traffic, I usually tell them that I shall call them back
Any help?
Look up Gingerbread volume control app in Development forum. It can override the system settings and make the volume much louder than the maximum stock, AFAIK.
Thanks, but this app is not working for everyone AFAIK.
Hey guys, I've noticed a weird bug with stock 4.2.1 on my Nexus 4, and was wondering if anyone is experiencing the same thing. If not, then perhaps it is the hardware and not the software, but the nature of this bug has lead me to believe it is software-related.
Let me first say, right off the bat, that I have had no other issues with my phone, and that when I play games or watch movies, the volume is loud, clear, crisp--just all around excellent. However, when I use the speakerphone on a call, it seems to be... quieter than everything else. So I tried playing around with it, and discovered something interesting.
The next time you're in a call, put it on speakerphone. Note how loud it sounds to you. Then, turn the volume down one notch, and then put it back up to the max volume again (I've only experimented with it being at max already, then turning it down one notch, and then back up).
Does it sound WAY louder? And does it sound distorted, almost overblown? Why would it be like that during a call, and why would adjusting the volume down and then back up again have such a result if it was NOT software related? And, furthermore, why would it be blown out and distorted here where as for everything else it sounds superb?
Let me know your thoughts--maybe I need to RMA? I got this one at T-Mobile (I didn't have to pay the equipment installment due to my current plan, so it was cheaper to buy it @ $200 from them).
Thanks!
Same Here .. I believed it was the only with this problem since no one had said.
I think is Software Issue.
Yeah I noticed that no one had mentioned this, but I believe if it's software then it must be affecting everyone. At least, it should be affecting stock users. I guess I noticed this sooner because I use speaker phone when I'm driving in the car, since my ragtag bluetooth receiver that outputs through a tape that's plugged into it and inserted into the tape deck only transmits music and notifications, not calls--for some reason--over the car speakers. Just got sick of plugging into the phones headphone jack every time I got in and out of the car! lol

See but mine doesn't crackle or do any of that stuff during calls or anything else. And it's not blown out sounding during anything other than calls where I have lowered the volume and then put it back up to max right after. I don't think the problem is the same as it is here, it just seems similar, for sure.
Also, when not on speaker phone, the in call volume is perfect and without issue. It's limited to specifically what I mentioned in the original post.
Thanks for the reply, but I'm talking about it being overtly loud and only being so when adjusting the volume down and back up to max, and that prior to that, the volume is just a bit on the quiet side at the maximum. Not crackling/popping/etc!
cool..sorry about that.
Exact same situation with me.little buzz while on call nothing else.
