Is their a way to grab files from your computer on your phone wirelessly?
I would also be interested in a solution for this on a linux machine.
Vincent.apk available in market lets you wirelessly sync to a samba share. Since it is samba, no third party server is needed. Just share the folder in windows or create samba share in linux.
also ES File explorer lets you browse shares in your network. good for getting single files.
Try this app

works brilliantly.. A must buy

Hello,
a question: is it possible to manual add a smb share in the gallery?
If i use a program like ES file explorer i can see and acces my smb shares, but if i open gallery i don't see the smb share (nor can i add a smb share). It would be nice if this could be done somehow because another programm photoframe looks to the gallery to see what pictures are stored in the gallery. It would be great to use to phone as a digital slideshow when it's charging
My phone is rooted (i don't know if this can help to find a anser to my question). If anyone has an idea than that would be great.
I will take a guess:
1) The gallery application is updated with content every time you restart your phone or re-insert your SD card. Only at this point does it populate the gallery with content.
2) The smb share you see with the explorer app is not mounted onto your phone at all so even if you triggered a rescan of the sd card it would still miss the smb share unless the application provided some kind of a driver for the smb share.
3) A thought would be to try and make a directory on your SD card, mount the smb share to it and find a way to trigger the sd card scan ad hope that it picks it up.
DLNA will only allow me to stream video/music, and what if I want to transfer all types of files?...
Thanks in advance.
Astro file manager + SMB extension (which is free)
You can find both in the market.
With the SMB extension you can access fileshares on your windows pc.

use this "Android Manager via WiFi"

it's easy and intuitive to use, nothing to mess around
works waaaaaaay better than KIES
Thanks a lot, guys! great stuff!
I'd like to get an opinion on what's the best WiFi File Manager app around as I'm always transferring media i.e photos etc back and forth from my DHD to pc and vice versa and it would be better not having to use a usb cable and using a quick and simple way over WiFi would be better.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
if it's small files then I use Bluetooth.
For larger things I use ASTRO file manager with the SMB module, then i can browse my Laptop or PC folders via my phone.
I couldn't get SMB Module to work. Best I have found so far is Estrongs with the built in WiFi file Manager. Can simply view the contents of your pc from phone and copy and paste onto phone.

Websharing is the one for me
LOL wtf..
Just make sure you have a shared folder on your Win7 machine (create something like Android transfer and share with 'Everyone')
Use ES File Explorer to set up a Server on LAN tab
job done
Found this on the Nook forum by user colorado_al. Works great on my Gtab (vegan b5)

Tony
I believe Es File Explorer app does this as well. I however want to connect android to android on LAN wifi but haven't found any app to do this
I could be wrong, but I don't think ES Exp allows you to browse your GTab from a PC. Haven't tried to android to android though.
I use Wireless File Transfer from the market. Works great. From pc to phone and vice versa.
Works great thanks for [email protected]
Works great, free, easy set up, password protection, and auto enable.
Back ups are a snap now.
Thanks!!!
Bluetooth File Share is similar and my personal favorite because it can package apps into apk's and send them via BT android to android.
basically i want to browse my sdcard internal folder using my windows 8 pc using SMB networking shares
it might be a lollipop issue?
i have samba file sharing working perfectly using nexus 7 fhd on android 4..3
has anyone gotten this to work? i can't seem to get it working, my PC can see the network share of the nexus6 but it won't allow me to view into the folders
i tried SAMBA file sharing and servers ultimate pro apps
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.funkyfresh.samba
Hmmm. From KitKat onwards, only the app that is used for mounting can see the contents. Not sure you'll get this working without a dirty-hijack of debuggerd - which you'll need to be pretty good at bash shell scripting to do.

This works on mine OK using the SMB app you linked to. I had to fool around with user id, password, and workgroup name in the app settings to make it work.
