Since I'm unable to root my dream until I have SPL 1.33.2005 on the phone I've been trying to update it to the correct one. Once in recovery mode upon pressing alt-S with the update.zip on the root of the sdcard I get the following error
E:No signature (5 files)
E:Verification failed
Installation aborted
Exactly what am I missing?
that spl has nothing to do with getting root as far as i know. to get root you have to downgrade to rc-29. that is haykuro's spl that frees up more memory in system

apologies for my ignorance with rogers. never had to deal with a rogers phone lol. but back to the OP's problem, if it says no signature then the spl you have for some reason is not signed. really do not know what the reason for this would be. you could have gotten a bad download of the spl. try to redownload the spl from haykuro's site and see if it will work
Even with haykuro's signed spl I still get the same error as before.
Also following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4048946&postcount=404 I get "cannot load "boot-new.img"
I have no clue whats going on anymore.

do you have the boot-new.img in the same folder as all your other fastboot required stuff. sorry for lack of proper terms. follow the second post in this thread to set up a fastboot folder and place the boot-new.img in it. see if that helps any
The new boot image is in the same folder as the fastboot exectble as well as adb. I added the path of my tools folder to the environmental variables previously as well as copied AdbWinApi.dll to the system32 folder just in case. Again no dice.
Can you use adb or fastboot for anything else?
fastboots useless until I have the new spl installed, which I can't install either.
The only thing i can think of is that since it says the files are not signed, is that you can try to sign the update.zip for the spl and try flashing it. Other than that i can think of nothing else at this time. I'm sorry. Like i said earlier don't really know anything about the rogers rooting process except for what i saw in the thread posted earlier and since i do not have a rogers device to test it on i can't know more than what i read.
PHP:
After further hunting it seems that there are two different update.zips.
One is 184kb and one is 2MB. Using the rogers dream rooting guide I get the 184k one which doesn't work. Should I start hunting for the 2mb one and give the rooting another go?
It can't hurt to look for it. I hope you can finally get it rooted
I may have just bricked the phone.
I used the recovery flasher app from the marketplace to flash the recovery image from the rogers rooting thread. That gave me the cyanogen 1.2 + JF recovery image. I then flashed the .2005 spl or so I thought. After booting into fastboot it still showed .0009 spl. I figured what the hell and made a nandroid backup, the wiped the phone and flashed it with the cyanogen rom 4.0 and now the phone is stuck on the rogers boot screen. I still can get to the modified recovery mode as well as fastboot though.
your phone is not bricked thankfully that is just a soft brick. try to flash haykuro's spl from the rogers root thread again after using the recovery flasher app.
make sure that you do not use the trackball to flash it and that you use the keyboard commands and home and back to reboot.

Thanks!

you can put the files on your sdcard by mounting it in your recovery and using adb push
if you have cyanogens recovery, go to console on it and type
Code:
ums_enable
and it will show up on your computer
when your done
Code:
ums_disable
correct me if im wrong, but my phone needs to be rooted in order to use cyanogens recovery right?
Something tells me that my phone didnt root when I was following those instructions (maybe I have that perfect SPL everyone is talking about?)
Anyway so far Ive spent half a day on this, and no luck, and I feel like Im getting ever closer to bricking my phone. It doesnt help that almost all guides here are for the G1 and very little for rogers.
Anyway, is anyone interested in $25 that Ill pay them via paypay/online banking to talk to me through recovery? Private msg me

It's posted on rogers website.
For noobs their is alot of overwhelming info in regards to doing this and seems to be a lil more simple on other models.....have read for hours on the forum and seems to be conflicting info and also a kernel file issue on the rogers dream rooting has me a lil confused....i have had my phone for 6 months and customized as much as you can without a root but i am getting bored and is time to play with it...wanna run roms and all the latest stuff on it and have access to the paid market and save to my sd card and all that other good stuff everyone else is doing.....lol.....i don't want to brick my phone but i would like to root it.....
okay to the point..................
now when i open Flash Rec the "Flash Custom Recovery Image" button does not even appear and i cannot get to the into Recovery mode.
One thing i noticed in Flash Rec says Phone type is EB1/32A...thought would be 32B? could this be a problem from trying to flash earlier?
i need rooting rogers dream 32b for dummies instructions....lol....
p.s someone needs to develop idiot proof rooting software with android ready to explode their will be alot of noobs with bricks.....lol.....
Here's the tutorial I suggest following:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_Rogers_Dream_EBI1_to_CyanogenMod
And yes it does work with 32B. I cannot stress the importance of making sure you know and are 100% comfortable with what you're doing to your phone. If you have to annoy the heck out of xda users to do so then by all means do it .
wow, seems like the rogers dream is more of a pain to root and a little limited cause of kernel issue....sounds like it could make adding future roms a pain cause they could be buggy.....
Its really not that bad if you just want to stick with cyanogen because the EBI1 port is always released promptly. There might be some other EBI1 roms posted in the sapphire development section, check it out. There is another method that makes your the rogers dream compatible with any rom that works on the G1. Some people have reported some connection issues with this method but it works fine for many others. I would only recommend going with that method if the selection of EBI1 roms isn't enough for you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4280573&postcount=130
The rogers dream is actually EBI1/32B. The reason it says 32A is posted here.
If you have any questions about this be sure to ask away before you decide to root.
i would like to be able to run the latest roms 2.0 and 2.1 once stable and new and up coming roms, sense ui and gadgets..... is it better to go with the other method you mentioned then the cyanogenmod based on that?
thanks for your help
okay am going cyanogenmod way ....lil issue before i move on......
the cm-recovery screen should say "CyanogenMod v1.4 + JF but is saying CyanogenMod v1.2 + JF .. . . .. . . .
lol
what did i miss used the wiki guide and files.......
i downloaded everything according to the wiki page..... am i missing something or doing something wrong that would cause it to load v1.2 instead of v1.4?
soloution found and moved on am at this part now with a new issue
Type the following commands to wipe your Rogers system image (and userdata, and cache) and replace it with the HTC image:
fastboot erase system -w
fastboot flash system system.img
The system will flash and you will see a green progress bar on the fastboot screen while the image is transferring and a red progress bar while it's installing.

got past erasing part......
then when type in fastboot flash system system.img i get error: cannot load 'system.img'

Make sure that the system.img file you downloaded is in the same folder as fastboot (the "tools" folder).
I put the system.img file in the same folder as fastboot (the "tools" folder) on my computer and tried it once again only to receive the same error message.

It does need to be in that folder but I am not sure why you are still getting that same message. You could try rebooting your phone and starting that section over again. The file could be corrupt. Verify the MD5 sum that is posted on the guide.
Edit: You need to cd to the tools directory before running that command
Warning: This method hasn't been throughly tested. It could brick your HTC Click (Tattoo). In either situation, I am not responsible if your phone explodes into a portable fireworks show. Should you decide to take the risk, please make sure you have backed up your data in case of a brick. Thanks.
I found an another way to flash the HTC Tattoo via HBOOT.
What I did is name 'CLICDIAG.nbh' to 'CLICIMG.nbh' and got the following:
HBOOT said:
CLICK PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.52.0001 (CLIC10000)
MICROP-0203
RADIO-3.35.07.20

HBOOT
Parsing [CLICIMG.nbh]
[1] MFG_DIAG
Do you want to start update?
<ACTION> Yes
<Power> No
Click to collapse
Knowing that I could possibly screw up/brick my Tattoo (and make it continuously boot into the DIAG program), I aborted the update. It goes to show that the Click/Tattoo still supports the classic way of flashing ROMs (like the way we got root on the HTC Dream/G1 via DREAIMG.nbh).
I have also heard that if you get rom.zip from the RUU (go to your temp folder in Windows while the RUU is on the "Welcome" screen and search for rom.zip) and rename it to 'CLICIMG.zip' and place it in the root of your MicroSD card, the Tattoo will also detect it as a ROM and ask if you'd like to flash it.
Opinions/Suggestions/Comments, anyone?
UPDATE: Tried to flash the ROM with SU-binary, and it bombed out with the dreaded error: "Main version is old! Update fail!". I googled for a solution, it said something about 'fixing' a perfect SPL on the Magic/Sapphire. Alas, I'm not game enough to try using a different devices' firmware.

Hi.
Did you check or try the recovery partition options?
Maybe something could be done with it...

We're trying our best. The root looks grim, unless we can somehow get a S-OFF bootloader. :/
Getting a S-OFF SPL would only be possible through HTC (who hold the keys to sign it). Either we're very lucky and someone leaks such a SPL or we're dead in the water.
Next best hope is someone finding a local root exploit on the kernel or in one of the setuid binaries that come in the Tattoo.
I have updated a rooted Tattoo with rom renamed to CLICIMG.zip and and an unrooted Magic 32a with rom.zip renamed to SAPPIMG.zip and copied to and fat32 sd followed by fastboot as described earlier in this thread - and2209
Thank you man my old dead tattoo is alive now becouse of you! thanks again
so my friend recently gave me his old G1, and i did some searching around and discovered that HTC made a dev version. now, being new to android, i have absolutely no clue what the differences are. i want to update my adp1 to froyo, but i get lost when i look up stuff about rooting or whatever. can anyone dumb it down for me or link me to an easy to follow walkthrough? i'm not sure whether or not guides for the g1/dream can be applied to the dev version. please help a noob in need
ADP1 shipped with bootloader 0.95.3000 whereas non-ADP shipped with 0.95.0000. 3000 let you flash unsigned images. That is the difference.
Note that all 0.95 SPLs are obsolete now.

That is the way that most of us rooted our phones. It's reasonable simple, downgrade, type teldnetd, open telnet app, install a recovery, update radio, set boot partitions(if using customMTD)/install danger SPL, and flash CM. If you would like to get as much performance as possible from your phone, I suggest using ezterry's rom, but for that you will need to update the radio and spl through adb and fastboot, which is a little bit more advanced. If you need anything don't be afraid to ask.

Well in that case use this link, since your bootloader is already factory unlocked, you can use the fastboot commands to flash a recovery image. You will need to have adb and fastboot from the android sdk installed on your computer. There are guides in the rom bible on the development forum to help you with that.
EDIT: and try this trick for skipping the initial login so that you can use wifi to sign in if you have to.

I even tried flashing the zip via recovery but it failed lol, anyway can someone help me out please. Either a 2.5.x.x img of clockwork that i can flash or helping me with whatever the problem is for T.E

I keep a recovery.img in my HERCIMG.zip on my sdcard. I use firerats so whenever I want to try a different ROM, I boot into HBOOT and then update my recovery which gets rid of firerats. Then I can boot right to recovery. Saves me having to type out the flash_image command.
I also have a HERCIMG with a rooted stock ROM. I can then flash through HBOOT on the phone and use that to update PRL's without having to restore through recovery. If you browse around, way back someone posted a HERCIMG with the 651.7 RUU as well. That HERCIMG will remove this S-OFF.
It also enables you to use the fastboot commands.
Seems more convenient to me anyway.
Ok, nice! That would be great to be able to flash recoveries (or system images) that way.
Except, i have tried it every way I can think of and HBOOT won't recognize my HERCIMG.zip (or HERCIMG.ZIP...tried both, but i doubt its case sensitive). It always says "No image!" for HERCIMG.ZIP. The zip contains a recovery.img and the android-info.txt files.
I also tried:
-re-formatting my sdcard in recovery and placing the HERCIMG.zip back in there
-updating the android-info.txt for 2.31 or 2.27 versions...not sure that matters for flashing recoveries.
any ideas? Is there an issue with version 1.46 HBOOT? Do i need to be on 1.47 with S-OFF? I'm on 1.46.2000 with ENG S-OFF and a .29 radio.
I've seen a lot of other threads about this, but there doesn't seem to be one sure fire way to get them to be recognized.

No dice. Same thing. Says "no image!" when it gets to the HERCIMG.zip part of the HBOOT.
Does it matter how I got it to the root of my sdcard? I copied it via USB/windows.

Make sure you name the HERCIMG.zip just "HERCIMG", it automatically becomes a HERCIMG.zip. Check the properties/details and make sure it is not named HERCIMG.zip.zip, then it won't recognize it. Also, make sure that the image inside the zip is named recovery.img and not something else, that has caused me problems in the past. S-off has saved me a few times when I have lost recovery. I also always keep a HERCIMG on my sd card with a recovery and it works great for Ruu's too!
Thanks for the help guys...but, still doesn't recognize anything. I've tried everything i can think of. Using HERCIMG files supplied by others, ones i found on xda, and created my own (in windows and in astro file manager on my phone). It has never recognized any of them. I even made sure by checking the file names in the terminal emulator that the extension/filename was correct (no zip.zip's). I also tried every combination of case (i.e. hercimg.zip, HERCIMG.zip, HERCIMG.ZIP). Looking in the terminal made me wonder if its a permissions thing with the filenames? Can't imagine that's it, b/c its got to be root user who's executing the process, right?
I'm at a loss on this one. I'm sure there's a solution, but i'm about to give up. This sH(* is annoying.
What else do you have in the zip? Is there an android-info.txt in there? What steps are you doing to install? Here is the HERCIMG that I use- http://db.tt?URG9r5L9, it's an Orange Lantern 4.0.1.4 Unofficial Clockwork.
I just reread and saw that you do have the android-info.txt. I have the same H-Boot and radio as you do too. You shouldn't need to do anything but put on the root of the SD card (don't pop in a file) and click the trackball from H-boot. It should install and then ask if you want to reboot. Press phone then home to get into recovery from there. Good luck and let me know if you pull the HERCIMG from my link.
Cool, thanks, i'll try that when i get home, since big brother is watching my downloads at work.
Did you use darch's ENG SPL method? I read a lot of threads where people had to downgrade their radio to the .27 before getting S-OFF. I never did that. Just flashed the HBOOT zip referred to earlier in this thread (referred by poashll).
Looks like its just a link to dropbox.com...not getting a file. Am i missing something?
