Help, 02 GPRS not working on vodafone unlocked X1 - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought an X1 unlocked from vodafone - and I love it, but I have major problems accessing my mobile web from 02.
Is there any way I can get it to work? Or is there any way I can safely change the vodafone firmware (im a novice at phones) in the hope that 02 will recognise it as an 02 phone and validate my internet access?
Thanks for any advice / links.

Try installing the attached O2 settings cab, make sure the O2 settings are the default ones being used.

Great it works!
Hey there,
MANY THANKS
You saved me. It works!!!!!!!!! I love my X1 even more!

T Mobile UK official update

I'm new round here, but just received a T Mobile update. The file is MDA3_TMUK_v106160_SHIP0307.exe I've put it in the root of the ftp server, since wasn't allowed to put it in a more appropriate place. Hope that's OK.
BTW it does seem to have improved my audio quality, which was the reason I asked for it. It didn't come with release notes, so I don't know what else is included.
Strangely, although the updater worked, and as I say it has fixed my problem, when I look at device info it still shows ExtROM 1.06.117 WWE.
What have I misunderstood?
I think this is only an update to give Blackberry access.
Okay guys,
So you know the next question... can anybody extract the blackberry app so I can try it on my XDAiis as the other ones don't generate a PIN!
yes please, same for me. I would love to have the UK blackberry application.
thanks in advance for anybody who can remove the BB application out of this ROM update.

T-Mobile UK Official Rom Update
I have just received this update as well.
Can one of the technical wizards on the site (such as MDAIII user) have a look at what is in the extended ROM, as well as Blackberry.
T-Mobile say that they have included a number of other patches for bluetooth etc. Could someone list exactly what has been changed over the base ROM.
After buying my device nearly 6 months ago and waiting this long whilst all my O2 and Imate cousins have had lots of upgrades to the radio and base rom, I am deeply unimpressed.
Thank you in advance for any assistance.
J
Same Here!
Hey all,
Well Jason, I feel exactly the same way. Been long waiting any updates and hopefully this update solves some of the following problems. Just doing a Full Backup, before update is applied! I will reply when installed with any updates to software revisions for bluetooth/rom/extended rom/etc.
*Such as Bluetooth dropping its connection from Weak to Good continuously when connected to me Jabra BT200.
*Another problem is that when firstly I soft reset the device it hangs whilst booting on the second T-Mobile screen, and have to soft reset the device 2/3 times rapidly before it boots properly. This can be a problem if its hung and you urgently need to make a phone call.
Anyone else having these problems?
Apart from that everything else seems to be in working order.
Sunny D
I downloaded the upgrade and ran it agaist the new tool.
This seems to be a 3 version of the encription as the tool will not open the file.
unless somebody posts the cabs ( In a subdir of the root of the ftp site) I can't look at them.
As per my above post shows I was just about to update my phone but no-one said it would lock my networks!.....I just didn't think of that!
Well I've just installed it and it has Locked the networks. It was unlocked to all networks, and not anymore.
Looks like I'll have to pay again to unlock it! Unless someone can help me unlock my MDA III!?!?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rom Version: 1.06.00 ENG (No change)
Rom Date: 08/05/04 (No change)
Radio Version: 1.00.00 (No change)
Protocol Version: 1337.30 (No change)
EXTROM Version: 1.06.160 ENG (Wasn't displayed before update on phone)
Bluetooth: Build 3500 (Was Build 1900)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So overall probably just a Bluetooth Update/Blackberry support and Video MMS. Not a great update, probably not worth the update considering I can only use my T-Mobile Sim for now!!!
Well MDAIIIUser what cabs do ya need? I'll try!.....Copy them of my Phone or PC??....& need to know where to find them??
Sunny D
Did I understand what you wrote
you had a phone that was sim locked
you had it unlocked so that you can use any sim
you ran the above upgrade on your unlocked device
now you have a locked device and you can't use any sim that you like but have to use a t.mobile sim
Well that is what I understood
As for the cabs
They are in the extnded_rom folder that is hidden
you need to download the tool, check wiki for the link (if its still around)
Zip the file, and uploaded it
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_ERK_Tools
ta
If you paid T-Mobile to unlock your MDA they should unlock it again for you without charge.
Anyone managed to get the Blackberry CAB out yet?
MDA III UK Upgrade Didn't relock my phone
I have tested out my phone after the upgrade and I am pleased to advise that it is still totally unlocked.
T-Mobile unlocked the original ROM for me for the £15 charge and the phone has stayed unlocked even after the upgrade (just as well!).
SunnyD - thank you for your work in helping to analyse what is new in the extended ROM.
Hi guys. Never posted before but been around.
Was once able to access the ftp but lately I get a permission denied message. Anyone got any advice on how to overcome this?
Found the ext rom 1.06.160 ENG on ftp site and linked it to wiki, Thanks sunnyd24.
Will cook it and post in wiki as well as update this thread.
The file you are looking for is:
htc_pocketpc_tmo_england_2.0.0.25-18.cab
The rest of the rom seems the same (looked at it for 30 secs)
Managed to access the ftp in the end. Was being stupid really... :?
Posted this ship.exe in wiki
Moved it from root to the correct folder

Files to Examine......or Use!!
Hello all,
Not a problem Jason, we are all here to help each other. Well I just tried another sim (old O2 & Orange) after the success you had, & guess what It is unlocked!!!!
I've got a problem with a new O2 sim i'm using. Its new & was working in the phone before the update and kept sim card whilst the update. And now cannot use that sim in the phone for some reason!
Its wierd how an old O2 sim works fine but the new one has problems.
:?: Anyone got any ideas??
Well as for helping everyone with version info for MDAIIIUser I am going to upload the new extended rom files to the FTP Site (and attatched below as a Rar). Hope it helps everyone!
Well all for now,
Regards,
Sunny D

Both the ship and exteneded rom for the 1.06.160 have been posted in wiki (as per the posts that i wrote before) Think the only file you need to attach is the one for BB (as ...)

A helping hand needed to upgrade my MDA Vario!

Hello guys!
I got my MDA Vario last week, and I am very much impressed with it!
I got the MDA Vario brand new without a contract and my intention is to use it with one of those O2 Genie PAYG SIM cards. So.... after much reading this excellent forum I figured out that I would need to unlock the SIMlock on the Vario. Got hold of the Lokiwiz utility, followed the advice on these forums, and tested it with the Orange SIM in my regular phone, and hey presto.... MY PY PHONE IS UNLOCKED!
Next step - to remove all T-Mobile customisations. Again, I had a simple bit of advice from one of you good folk - hard reset, then soft reset when the phone starts to install customisations and now all the pink girlie stuff has gone! Only reminant of T-Mobile left on the phone is the logo on the phone dial keypad.
My thoughts are now with upgrading the ROM. T-Mobile have been very slow with updating their ROM package -a new one is apparently due very soon. Now.... in preparation of installing a new ROM, Ive CID unlocked my phone. I would really like to know which ROM I should upgrade to - there are so many out there! As the phone has been CID & Sim Unlocked, does the phone remained unlocked irrespective of what ROM I install? Can I install a T-Mobile ROM after changing it to another?
As I intend to mostly use an O2 PAYG SIM in it, would it be better to use a new 02 update? If so, which one? Or do I go for another ROM? All very confusing! Finally, Ive heard that I cannot browse the net via GPRS on an 02 PAYG SIM. Is that true? Do I need to flash an ExtROM too?
I know Im asking a lot here and am being a bit of a pain in the backside, but I would really appreciate any and as much advice as possible as I realy dont want to end up with a dead phone! Many thanks in advance!
Hi, yes you could wait for the new rom and i am a believer in sticking with your manufacturer roms because many of the posts here seem to people experimenting with different roms and it all going wrong - lol.
But if you do upgrade proberly the commonest choice is the aku2 qtek rom that i use
download here ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wi...digy_2170702_21707102_20710_QTEK_WWE_Ship.exe
and the o2 aku2rom not a bad idea too, but without the o2 extras.
Yes you could then upgrade to the t-mobile rom then but often you need to unlock again with lockiwiz 0.3a.
PAYG o2 will browse internet but msn etc.. does not work.
btw yes you are a pain in the arse but then most people here are!!
Cheers Mark! Nice to have some basic advice - very reassuring for a thicko newbie like me!
Well... I couldnt wait for the new T-Mobile ROM and went ahead with the upgrade with the Qtek upgrade you suggested.
Was a little tricky at first because the upgrade wouldnt happen (port failing to open) but I had a few programs running in the background on my desktop PC and shut them all down so that I had a `Clean` PC. The upgrade process was then as smooth as a babys bottom.
MDA Vario is running really well - well worth the upgrade IMO. Everything seems quicker and generally better. Only problem I have is with wifi - it seems to take ages to make a connection with my PC (ad-hoc peer to peer) whereas on the original T-Mob ROM it was very quick. Any ideas here?
I read that you say I would need Lokiwiz 0.3a to install the AKU2 T-Mob ROM when it is eventually released. I was under the impression that once the PDA was unlocked (lokiwiz 0.2b) I wouldnt need to unlock it again. Is it different with the very latest T-Mob ROM? Can I not revert (downgrade) to the original T-Mob and then upgrade to the new T-Mob ROM? Ive not heard of lokiwiz 0.3a being out yet - would it be as simple as unlocking with lokiwiz 0.2b?
Finally, how on earth do I get the latest 02 ROM? I need to enter my 02 mobile number and IMEI to download it. Do I need lokiwiz 0.3a to install that or any other current ROM?
Cheers for your friendly advice.
Al.
Hi, no problem - glad to help.
Lokiwiz 0.3a is out see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=50768
For some reason when upgrading (in think it renews cid/spl) to aku2 rom seems to lock again - i had to unlock my qtek with above tool.
Yes you can go back to original rom - but if does not work use farias method of unlocking and downgrading rom (post is in this forum)
Most of the roms are in the wiki http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Wizard_Upgrades
including the o2 roms, but i would refrain from too much chopping and changing because you can destory the bootloader and then has to go back to the manufacturer.
Many reported problems with the wifi setting up - i would read some of the threads in the wizard forum if i was you. First thing to try is tweak wifi on device to wlan g and it may work better.
see registry tweaks here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Wizard_Upgrades
btw good to hang out in the wizard forum too - you will learn alot of tips from there.
Want to also say thanks from another newebie with T-Mobile MDA. Have unlocked phone and CID and flashed with 2.17 QTEK ROM and all is good.
Thanks !!!
if you want th get rid of the tmobile crap on the face...use a 2p coin and move it downwards...not accross
it takes the tmobile paint etc off without any marks..
Jesus sbouri that logo was killing me, brilliant tip, nice one mate!!!
hi
i just got my mda vario and manage to unlocked the phone with lokiwiz03. i know my phone is now sim unlocked, but how do i check if it is cid unlock as well?
i am eager to flash the rom with the qtek version but i have no idea how to do it.
i know i must have my phone cid unlock in order to install a different rom, so do i just download the latest qtek rom, connect my device to usb and activesync it, and then just run the RUU?
i am really noob here.
cheers.
Hi mate if i was you i would use MR CLEANS ROM i flashed with that and its excellent, tottaly clean with no tmobile crap and i didnt do anything with the cid so dont worry.
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Wizard/ROMS/MrClean_RUU_WIZARD_224_AKU23_WWE.zip
Just download this and run follow instructions, real easy. Good luck mate.
thanks for the advice...i took a bold move and flash it with a qtek rom. works like a charm. before that i did cid unlock using lokiwiz02a, not lokiwiz03.
i will take a look at mr.clean rom at a later stage.
i notice that my imei number is different from the one in my box. does flashing the rom change it?
now my next task would be update to a better radio rom and check out the extension rom.
cheers.

Great tip, worked like a charm and left no marks.
Thanks.
Hi there, I'm about to flash my UK MDA Vario too.
I'm not sure to use the Mr clean one or the Qtek 2.17 version.
Before I do anything, which is better of the two?
Also, what settings to I need backed up? I have my txt msg service numbers, as well as voicemail. And all of my MMS & GPRS settings.
Am I to assume that all I have to do is input the settings into the device once it's been flashed?
Thanks

The mr clean rom is a more advanced rom and has no extras. The qtek official rom is probably a safer install because its an official rom and many good reports of success and users pleased with the outcome.
Yes when you have flashed just input all those settings again.
Plus you can backup your voice tag database between hard resets by copying the file CommandModel1.bin found under the windows folder to your pc or to the memory card. After rom upgrade copy it back to your windows folder and all your voice tags are back!
Create backup of windows\start menu - most programs that are on the storage card dont need a reinstall.
Create copy of pim.vol in the root directory of the device - contains contact and appt information. After flash change the new pim.vol to pim.vo and copy and paste old pim.vol (use total commander or gsfinder file explorers for this) and soft reset and you will have info back.
Create backup of windows\favorites - for all your internet favorites.
That will make restore a bit quicker than otherwise.
Cheers for the info. I was actually thinking of trying the Mr. Clean one first, is there anything missing from this one, or is it just less stable?
Mr clean is just a clean rom without any of the manufacturers addons. It will probably run very well - its the flashing process with it that may not be as safe as an original rom and may possibly destroy your bootloader etc.. so you have a brick phone. I would always go for the safest option and would not suggest chopping and changing roms. Read the many users stories where everything goes wrong and the forum needs to help them out.

True, I didn't think about that. Thanks again.
Ive been using Mr clean rom for 1 week now and its excellent from my experience. Its tottaly clean and runs so fast!
By clean i mean it has no customizations as you will find on official roms. It flashed just like any other rom too. Easy as pie. Just my info as people would like to know.
I've just upped to the QTEK ROM, and I've a couple of problems, nothing too serious though I don't think?
Firstly, when making my GRPS connection - I can't seem to find anywhere to input the WAP Proxy settings?
Edit, sorted this one now
Secondly, when settinp up my MMS - I can't select connect via Picture Message in the settings, it's not there?
I'm guessing this is some other connection I have to make up?
Any idea guys?

upgrading from o2 to voda

I recently purchased an 02 XDA IIS. Its unlocked so I can use my vodafone sim card. However, I cannot send or receive MMS, and obviously, I cannot access Vodafone Live. The friend who sold me the phone said I can just download the software for voda and reboot which would solve the prob. But after looking for the last 2 hours I cannot find anything. Any ideas?
i would be grateful if you could let me know...i need it too many thanks
email me if you find the solution
[email protected]
just try changing the settings for mms and gprs
http://www.mphone.co.uk/mms_wap_settings_vodafone.html
thanks for the help but it still wont connect to live or send/receive mms. im sure i do need the software from voda. But just dont know whereto find it.
im in a similiar situation as well.........
The device is set up in there sections, the radio rom, the ce rom and the ext rom. Carriier information or apps are found in the ext rom. The process is called cooking or backing.
If you would like you x branded phone to look and feel like a y branded phone then you need to exchange the content of the ext rom.
Some settings can be changed on the system , sms number, voice mail others are loaded through the ext rom (splash screens, e-mail setup programs for carrier y).
Best thing is wiki, read the info in the kitchen, understand the ext rom, cook it and most of all have fun.

Can't use my SIM card! Operator not supported problem!

Hi, I've updated my Trinity with this ROM.
All works fine, except that it doesn't work with my SIM card.
When I insert the SIM card, I got a message and the Network Wizard:"Your current operator (23433) is not supported. You should obtain an update from your device vendor.
Would you like to select another network provider?
Basically I can't connect to the network and the network wizard gave me only asian and australian operator I can choose from, but I'm on Orange and in UK!!
Please let me know what's wrong!
Cheers
You sure it doesn't work when you wait a while? It should work telephony-wise, but the data settings you have to change manually...
just doesn't accept Orange SIM cards..
Can't understand why...maybe has a lock when you insert an Orange SIM?
Orange simcards
Hi gioazz,
I bought an m700 from you on ebay ( dezlatics )and have found it to work great, but I am eager to use the GPS option with it.
But just a quick note on your issue....
I have now installed an Orange 3g Pay as you go simcard with no problems.
However, I did originally buy a simcard and have problems connecting to the internet. I rang Orange customer services and they told me that the simcard was only a 2G simcard and that it was not compatible with the m700. So I then bought a 3G simcard and everything is sorted.
So perhaps you are trying to use a 2G card and not a 3G card??
Could you possibly send me any info on the GPS rom update that you have installed and tell me how to check if my m700 is locked or unlocked.
Cheers mate!
My Sim Card is 3G but it doesn't work with any Orange SIM...I think that this is simply a faulty phone.
As for the GPS ROM, just download the ROM from the FTP it works great, and if your already works with an Orange SIM I think it will still working.
I've tried to revert to an old ROM and the nproblem is still there so I think is just the phone.
It does works with any other phone SIM so far,so I think is simply an Orange lock on this device...
'FTP' - What is this?
Thanks for your reply gioazz,
But because I am a bit of a newbie on this site, could you tell me what the 'ftp' is please. Where I can look for the ROM update.
My apologies if this is such a stupid question!

First of all - great username!
Second of all, ftp (file transfer protocol) is where you are going to find the stockpile of roms and other files the esteemed members of this forum have compiled from around the world. Here's a link to the trinity rom page:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Trinity_Upgrades
Good luck with the update...I see in another post of yours you already CID unlocked your phone.
How Do I Know If My Device Is Unlocked?
Thanks for your reply PSARGENT,
Yes I unlocked my Trinity with the IMEI unlocking service, it cost me £20.00 but I think it will be worth it in the long run.
But how can I test that my device is unlocked and will stay unlocked even after I upgrade using the GPS ROM update?
Is there a quick to tell, or do I have to try and install software that is not digitally signed to find out, Also, I do not have any other carriers simcards to try in my Trinity either.
Cheers!
Still no sign of the Official GPS ROM Update from HTC!!!
Sorry for the double posting!!
I did not read your reply to my post in the other Trinity section of the site, my apologies psargent!
Solution
Do Hardreset,
After you finish the initial phase, do hard reset before it installs the DOPOD software (the 3 seconds countdown) and your sim will work fine.

Please Help Me ! SPV M700 GPS no longer works

Hi - I have an Orange SPV M700, and i just used the sim unlocker from this site to sim unlock
the sim unlock process has worked, and i can now use my tmobile sim in the phone.
HOWEVER, the GPS function on the phone is no longer working. TOMTOM 6 worked with the internal GPS before i sim unlocked - but now, it keeps saying "No GPS Device"
Could anyone PLEASE help me to get GPS function (and whatever else may have got messed up during the process) back to working order.
I am a newbie at all this, so please give me step by step guide as how to sort it out.
I have already tried a hard reset, but no change
i only did sim unlock and not the cid unlock
Thanks
Did you install a new radio ROM after unlocking ?
If not do it, radio roms with GPS works better with GPS than radio ROM without GPS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1250041&highlight=radio#post1250041
hi super sheep - thanx for reply
no, i did not do that, i just selected sim unlock.
looking at the link, there are 2 roms - 1.38 and 1.41 - will any of these change language of my phone?
also do i need to cid unlock the phone to install the rom?
also, how do i intall the rom?
sorry, but im a newbie at this (have 2 start somewhere)!
thanks
i love u sheep!
thanks - waiting for a valid gps signal......
next thing - how can i download all the tmobileuk settings for the spv m700?

any good to you?
you have to do the work your self though...just one question M700 on tmobile?..... assume you have dumped the Orange SIM card etc? If not Orange have a real good set up page for thier services.
cheers for link - yes, dont use orange sim, tmob web n walk is good stuff.
thanks
Right - now i have another problem....
atfer sim unlocking, i now find that when i try to use with my parrot ck3200 carkit, the m700 only automatically pairs up with it if i soft reset the device...is there any fix to make my bluetooth better and for it to pair without having to soft reset the device?
previously i had mda compact ii and never had any problems with that.
thanks
