call log question - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

is there anyway to:-
call log, if i dial my mum and she doesnt pick up, i try again and she still doesnt pick up, i try 5 times with no luck. in my call log now i have 5 entries for the same contact.
is there any way to condence all 5 calls to 1, so i dont have a long string of the same person in the log ?
hope i made sense

Not with the stock call log, no.

is there anything out there that can do this ?

go into the market and search for call log... see what comes up. Try it out (most are free, if not you can refund) and let us all know. AFAIK this is the first time anyone has a problem with it. I like it that way, your mileage obviously varies.
Good luck

Strange error: Cannot complete the call

This is really strange and weird.
I have played with the internet via 3G/WI-Fi and then disconnect.
The phone was doing nothing, and stand by in my pocket.
Then I heard miss call sound and saw a miss call from "Unknown" duration 00:00.
Hmm ...
Then I cannot call any number !
Everytime I try to call a number, I got this error:
Cannot complete the call. The signal may be unavailable or the phone number may not be valid. Verify the number or try again later.
There was nothing I can do, except soft-reset.
This happened twice within 30 minutes ... Got miss call from "Unknown" then phone call dead !
Anyone got this problem before? what cause this?
Thanks.
i have the same problem
ever since i have updated i cant seem to call anyone or recive calls i get the same error message"cannot complete the call the signal may be....."
does any one have a fix for this
@gogol - I'm not sure what would cause that. Are you using the official ROM?
@liam9646 - You said this happened after "updating"- do you mean flashing a new ROM? Custom or official?
@both of you- Have you tried a new radio?

Weird SMS

Does anyone get like a glitch kinda thing with their sms when they are receiving them. ...Sometimes I will receive sms messages with no problems what so ever and i will receive them right away. Other times, It will be hours after they were sent and I will receive them. Or I will not receive them until the next time I go and open my sms inbox when im planning to send another, all of a sudden I just receive a new msg, hours late.
Any ideas?
its usually just your gsm service, my carrier is on-time but the time-stamps on the message is sometimes wrong.
maybe sometimes, but other times ...for example, I may be having a conversation at night, then fall asleep. The next morning, when im going to send a new sms message, i open the sms message window and a new text arrives with the time stamp from the night before, and i know that this new message was not just sent now because the person who sent it is still asleep
bump.......
yea its the network.
or u just got a really crappy sim card.
Yeah, I get that. It's probably a minor software glitch. I've had people call me complaining I didn't respond to a message and lo and behold, when I open messages to prove them hideously wrong, the 'message recieved' tone beeps several times and "[X] new text messages" pops up at the bottom of the screen.
Still not figured out how to set the phone up to do this (i.e. whether you minimise or hide the messaging app, whether you open a new app first then go back to today screen, etc..)
Still, only rarely happens. And at other times when recieving texts I could swear the phone doesn't beep... just conspirationally increments the new message counter and keeps silent. I pick up the phone after it's been sat next to me and it says I have several new messages.
Same thing happens to me, i've researched it for days and cant find a fix. I'm dreading calling ATT because they are usually of no help, but I'm gonna put my pants on and call them in a few minutes.

long delay placeing call? thanks

Can someone help me how come every so often I place press call after entering a number there can be a delay of 5 to 30 seconds where nothing happens. Or of I push the name of a recent call it has the same delay. If I push it many times sometimes it will continue placing new calls while I'm already called. I'm running Sprint 2.1 official. Thanks
you probably don't have very good service where you are, unless you deny that statement.
Only hit it once and you'll only make one call.
Sprint's rom is ridiculously slow and laggy.
More peopel could probably help you out with specific problems with sprint's rom on sprintforums.com or somewhere like that. NOT that we don't want to help, but problems often have different levels of depth, if you know what I mean. Or root and get ever CRAZIER problems and then stick around here!

thanks, but i think its the phone, because now when I click the green button the phone comes up immediately but nothing on the screen works. Its almost like clicking an image no beeps nothing.
Below is more detail of my problem
Can someone help me. How come every so often I try to place a call their is a long delay.
For example I will push the green call button to bring up the phone. Then I will click on a name from my recently used numbers and I will click the number I want to call and it will highlight then nothing. After 10 to 15 seconds does it vibrate and place the call and go to the screen with the timer and the end button. If I get impatient and keep pressing the number (selection goes green for a second) nothing happens for 10 to 15 seconds then the call is placed and it will continue dialing, holding, and conference call as I try to talk to that person.
This delay also happens when I dial a number, and the number keypad is slightly sluggish when dialing.
Please note I a running Sprint Official OS2.1 and even though the Phone Application is sluggish outside phone mode the device seems to run when when using other internet. I am also getting strong bars and EV.
I would really appreciate your help; I just got this phone 2 days ago and really like it, but this one fault is killing it for me.
Please Help me.
Thanks
please somebody help me other than that i really like this phone.

Since you are not rooted and not running a custom ROM, this is probably not the best place to ask for help. You should call Sprint directly or check out the website/forum listed above.....
This lag is common on this particular phone. Just look at all the threads about dialer lag. 2.1 made the dialer lag even worse IMO. A custom ROM may or may not fix it for you.
i'm run Aloysius and Darchdroid I have the lag too. I dont know the problem i just wait.
i run DC and its laggy too... i bet its the dialer app...
that huge delay in actually dialing the number is an issue with all of the ROM's based on the official 2.1 (and the last leak as well I believe). No idea why it happens, but I hope a dev manages to figure out how to fix it soon, because it's the biggest annoyance for me
lag everywhere
i agree, the dialing lag is very annoying. also I have issues when im using the web browser while trying to tap on the url bar or in a search field the phone just hangs and doesn't bring up the keyboard.
while my buddie is already looking at a web page or search results on his very responsive palm pre webos im stuck waiting swearing at my phone lol.
But given all the things you can do to androids compaired to webos ill take the lag.
It was so bad for me that I took my phone into a sprint store and showed them how f'ed up it was. They said that it was happening a lot...evidently they have an internal forum where these issues get posted and the tech I talked to at the store said he saw a ton of posts referencing this same issue. They told me, however, that my phone passed diagnostics and that I could make and receive calls, to which I responded, "sure, I can make calls, but it barely functions as a phone." They sent me on my way, and I figured that was that until I got a text 2 days later saying that my replacement phone was in.
When I went to pick it up, the store rep said, "We'll have to reload the update for you" and I told him not to bother. Whatever issues 1.5 had, they were better than the enourmous issues with 2.1. Of course, as soon as I got it home, I rooted it (the 2.1 root came out the next day) and had 2.1 running quick as a fox anyway.
I have had the same issue, but have discovered one important thing by looking at the logs and just observing... This does not happen when using WiFi. I have a log showing that this problem is related to turning the radio off in order to make the call. For those who do not know, this is unique to CDMA in that it cannot use both data and voice at the same time. For some reason it is taking forever to turn data off in order to make the call. This has been reported to Flipz and he is looking into it, but until then I guess you just have to put up with it or go back to a 1.5 rom.
For those to say that the problem doesn't exist on rooted phones or that he should go somewhere else is not giving any good advise.
I have been rooted for several months and never really had any problems with an extremely long delay until recently. . I know if I am rebooting my phone I have to wait a little bit to do anything, even after Sense has finished loading or i will have the same problem. I'm sure you were not rebooting your phone when this happened.
Here was my experience 2 days ago...
I tried making a call and pressed on the contacts name. It was just sitting there. After 20 seconds it still wasn't calling, so I pressed the name again and after 15 more seconds it began calling the person. And then it started dialing again. I hit End Call and attempted to do it again. I had the same problem. I then rebooted my phone and waited 5 minutes and tried again and had the same results. In between pressing the contact and the phone actually calling it just sat on the contact screen. I have had the same ROM running on my phone for 3 weeks and this was the first problem I had like this.
At first I thought it was with Sprint, but it should have atleast gone to the calling screen and said dialing if it was even attempting to call.
If you have had this problem was it just stuck on the dialer/contact screen or was it on the screen that says dialing/calling?
It gets stuck on the dialer/contact screen. I had this problem slightly with 1.5, but it is far worse in 2.1 including all official 2.1-based roms. The problem is present in all 2.1 based versions of Fresh and Fresh Toast.
I had this problem on every 2.1 ROM. It went away with Fresh Toast and the 710 Kernel. Now the most lagg I get on the dialer is between 1 or 2 seconds. Before it could be 10 seconds before the call placed. I am extremely happy with that overclocked ROM. Try it out if you want.

[Q] AOSP V 0.9.7 three way call issue

Anyone that is on this ROM, I would like you to try making a 3 way call and let me know if you are able to, please post, some seem to be able to do so and others not and we are trying to find the reason and culprit, all suggestions are welcomed, I even spoke with the developer and he is still trying to find out why some can and others can't
OK update, I flashed CM 6 tonight and have the same issue with the Rom, not able to make a 3 way call, just to clarify in case peeps want to know my process, while on a call, I hit add a call, then type the phone number I want to add, then I hit call button, then I hear a dial tone and then silence, the second counter works as I see the seconds moving, but nothing on the other end, if I wait or if I hit merge calls I get a fast busy signal and the call gets disconnected. So tonight I decided to flash back my stock rooted ROM to see, and low and behold, I am able to do a 3 way call, so it is something in Both Senseless ROMS that is not allowing me to make a 3 way call, any suggestions, I am all ears, I even spent 2 hours with the developer of AOSP, and still no go, and also called Sprint to see if they could refresh the phone and still nothing, and no I did not tell them I was rooted, LOL
Bump, I posted this in another forum and here, to see if anyone with this issue has found a walk around, thanks again
Bump, anyone with the same issue and not able to do 3 way calls please post here so the developer can see others are having the same issue

Forwarding-> Set number of seconds to ring

I am forwarding my phone to my home at night. Using the numbers discussed here with a Tasker profile.
I find that when using conditional forwarding, it rings so long that by the time it forwards, it only rings once on my home phone, and I don't get it answered in time.
I've been trying to set it up for the number of seconds it rings before forwarding, to shorten that time. I see no way to do that via the menus on the phone. So there is text describing a way to do it on the wiki I referenced above. This is that text:
For GSM networks such as T-Mobile and AT&T Mobility, you can set the number of seconds before forwarding by inserting *SC*XX prior to the final #, where SC is a service type code (11 for voice, 25 for data, 13 for fax), and XX is the number of seconds in increments of 5 seconds. If SC is omitted (just "**"), all call types is the default. For example, forward no-answer can be set with *61*[phone number]**[seconds]#. There may be a limit on some networks of 30 seconds.

When I enter that, it seems to not work.
Anyone know how to set the length of time on AT&T for how long before forwarding a conditional forward?
i just wanted to know how to extend ringtime and this is where the ppl on the forum sent me which worked very well for me so here hope this helps

Interestingly, the same information is in the links I referenced. One thing different, I was not entering the + in front of the number.
So, now I got it to shorten to 5 seconds. But I'm not having luck changeing it to any other time. I'll give it a rest, and try later. Must be finicky.
[EDIT]
Well, I have it forwarding faster, 5 seconds. Can't get it to change. 5 is a bit too quick. Interesting it would change once, and once only.
Well, as I noted above, I was abale to set my time to 5 seconds. But I never succeeded in setting it to anything else. As you probably know, the person on the other end may hear 1 to 3 rings before your phone actually starts ringing. In the case where it is 3, the phone doesn't ring long enough to even answer it.
I had to call 611 to get them to change the time. I asked how I could change it, and they said I had to call in to change it.
I'm afraid to try to change it any more.
Anyone else having regluar success.
FYI...I'm trying to change it for all conditional forwarding. That is the *004* settings in the Wiki.
