It says it is automatic but it wasn't for me. All I could think of is downloading a .apk for apps2sd but it says not to do that. Thanks for any help.
I searched and couldn't find the answer so sorry if it's an obvious question
edit: I'm thinking about running an apps2sd.apk... I have no clue why this isn't working

yes i do, I've had apps2sd running before.
and you're sure it didn't work? you reflash it? if so, reformatted your ext partition? if so, redid all of your partitions completely? if after all that it isn't working, i dunno what to tell ya.

sorry i couldn't help, man :\ best of luck to you
i dont know if this will work, but try flashing another hero rom, then flash jachero back on top of it if your apps2sd works.
your ext is the 2nd partition right?

Thanks, but I tried that and didn't work, and yes it is, I just flashed cyanogen to make sure apps2sd is working and it is on that build.
apps2sd not automatic
Also having this identical issue. Worked perfectly pre JacxHero1.2 build yet not now.
Even reformatted entire Sd prior to updating current build to correct 1.2 bootloop issue which worked yet now no apps2sd and int mem gettin low so would be super nice to find a troubleshoot method not previously already mentioned. Anyone? Plz help. Thanks in advance.

can you run a logcat on first boot?
update (workaround) - apps2sd not automatic
Have found out that upon flashing Rom updates (jacxheroski1.4 being my currently installed version), any apps installed to internal mem prior to flash will complete a move across. I.E. the entire flashing process serves to actually move them all over to ext3 but once back in and re-booted, apps2sd once again permanently ceases to work automatically, upon any subsequent reboot thereafter. For now, guess I've found an tolerable alternate workaround yet this is not the optimal solution by any means. Are there any others having this problem? Any additional potential fixes not previously denoted within this thread? Thanks in advance

1.Are your partitions set up correctly? fat32/ext2/swap? When in doubt, backup and reformat all partitions.
2.Which radio/SPL are you using?
3. Which ROM is it you are trying to use? Some require different things to be set up properly.

1.I have the partion set up fat32/ext2/linex I have formated the fat32 but don't know how format the ext2 and linex. How do u do this?
2. I have the 261 radio and can't remember the SPL but I have gone through the steps in the forum on how to root the g1. I even flashed my g1 again. I have a 32b motherboard. That's what it says when I hold the camera and on button.
3. I have tryed many JAChero roms and even the heroblur one. But can't seem to get it working. Do I have to have a class 6 sd card? Or can I work on a class 2?

When you went to bootloader mode and saw you had a 32B board it would show your spl there. But most likely you need to wipe your ext partition. And I would suggest upgrading from ext2 to ext3.

did u wipe your ext3 in console before flashing
you may want to clear your davlik-cache.
from terminal
Code:
su
cd /system/sd/davlik-cache
rm *
exit
exit
If you have ADB set up you can format your ext partition as follows (quoted from a different post)
Code:
adb remount
adb shell
rm -r /system/sd/*
reboot recovery
then flash your update
If I were you, I would back up my sd card to your computer and format the entire thing setting up all of your new partitions using parted from the recovery. Also make sure you remember to upgrade_fs after doing it.
My guess is that you have the wrong SPL. However, be very careful in changing the SPL--make sure that your phone is compatible (check the threads).

i do have the 1.33.2005 spl. i have bought a class 6 sd card. formatted card and partitioned it now installing jachero2.2b. do u recommend or what rom do fink is the fast and stable one.
I have no reason to recommend against the jachero, but I don't run Hero ROMs. Do you have adb installed? If so, when you are booting your phone, run "adb logcat" on your computer. Post what you see when the reboot happens and someone may be able to offer more help.

yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, its working. its running now and i am going to see if it runs smooth and fast. many thanks to all of guys that has advised me on what to do. i really am grateful
i searched for this and came up with some links, but none to verify my exact question which is, do i need a certain ROM, or recovery image, i have the RA-dream-V1.5.2. to apply apps2sd, i am currently running the latest cyanogen ROM, do i need a sd card reader or can it be done just by using terminal emulator, and i just bought a 4gb class 6 from new egg, and i was wondering what do you guys recommend for my ext2 partition space to be? so if you guys have any info on this it would be great if you threw it my way thank you!
Most rom have it enabled automaticlly when it sees an extX partition. The recovery is not required, but helpful if you don't have a linux system or other software to create the partitions on your computer. No card reader is required unless you want to format it that way. The only terminal commands you would need would be in the recovery console for you. The space is up to you and your needs and does not increase or decrease performance either way.
See the link below and it will help you doing it the manual way and with Amon_RA's recovery.
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Apps2SD
thank you, you were a bunch of help, i shall try this when i get home tonight
No problem, let me know how it goes.
it asked me for swap-size and also ext2-size, im not to sure what numbers i need hmm?
If you plan on using a hero rom put in something for swap, if not put zero. The put in the amount of ext you want for apps. (normally between 256-512)
To upgrade the file system from ext2 -> ext3 use the command upgrade_fs in the recovery console.
Look at the link I gave you and scroll down to the Amon_RA section if you need more help.
it said upgrade_fs not found (nvm)
i got ext2 to ext3 thank you for all your help sorry for being a pain dude...
so to make sure i did it right, how much available phone space should i have?
It varies based on the cache you have for the apps, but I have 68mb but I have been running the same rom for a while. It should be around 80mb if you haven't done anything to build the cache, but I have the 1.33.2005 SPL which increases the internal memory size.
I get the same error "upgrade_fs not found" when I want to upgrade to ext 3 from console. From Amon_Ra's recovery I get an error too when I want to upgrade to ext 3. The other SD card I have worked perfectly with exact the same steps. What is wrong? Thanks
if you amon's isnt there an option that says upgrade ext2 to ext3? i guess thats the same?

I get an error when I press "upgrade ext2 to ext3" on my 2 GB card, the 1 GB card is done already.
sorry dude im a noob at this thing myself i guess one of the senior guys gotta answer this for you =\
Very strange, after many attempts suddenly I made the partitions, I don't know why but it worked
well thats good to hear =]
I have just recently joined the ranks of those running A2SD. My SD card is partitioned and I have no problems using any of my Apps, which are stored on my 8GB SD Card. Unfortunately, I have never been able to perform a Nand + Ext backup through Recovery. I keep getting the "perform through ADB" error. My battery has plenty of juice, I have 2.7GB free, and I have tried multiple times while plugged into the charger.
I have tried several searches for solutions and come up empty. I am currently running the latest Darchdroid with BFS, A2SD, JIT, etc....
Is there a step I am missing to get this to work? I can always use Titanium Backup to restore my apps but I thought the Ext backup would be easier/faster.
The rom doesn't matter.
What's your recovery version?

I don't know how to check but I partitioned through recovery:
1. Boot in to RA and do data wipe
2. Format your sdcard with 32mb swap, 512- ext2, and the rest fat32
3. Convert ext2 to ext3
4. Flash the rom and reboot
hi....
are u sure your a2sd is working correctly? try the app in the marketplace called Quick Systems Info. It will show you if your a2sd is working and how much of it is being used.
also.. I have had this issue too...
I think i solved it.. in recovery boot.
i think the 2nd choice is to fix some usb connnection.. cant remember exactly. Try that.
then try to backup again

QS info shows A2SD storage Total 475MB, Free: 360MB
Internal total 160 MB, Free: 101MB
I will check out recovery now, thanks!
In recovery now.....do you mean under the partition menu? Second choice is "repair SD:ext". Will this erase my card?

Same error - The good news is that I did not lose my data (whew). Hopefully the next time I have to wipe my ext and repartition it will magically fix itself.

Only if you don't use it? What kind of question is this? If you have your apps there, ie: 'old apps2sd', clearly they would all be gone and you'd have to reinstall them.
If you're NOT using an Linux partition on your microSD card like EXT1/2/3/4, then nothing will happen, nothing will be erased.

Ok. I'm actually on this ROM now, and have been for a couple weeks. Despite the fact that the thread says to NOT use Firerat's ALL in ONE patch, you need to. The options you want to use are 2, 4, and 10 ONLY! Nothing else. This will force apps2ext to work on this phone/ROM combo. I thought all of this was fixed in version 5 of the ROM, but not sure. Any questions, the email is in my info to the left.

So far I can say the install on sd-ext functioned. Just set it to sd-ext and reboot.
Btw I don't install any AIO from Firerat as it is not advised to do so
Ok for me i partitioned again my sd using gparted and now everything work. I think the problem come from RA partitioning.

Take it from not only Tribal but from myself who are two very experienced members, if you don't want your data partition to be eaten up rather quickly then run the AIO patch options 2, 4 & 10 when you flash the rom, tried and fully tested working.

hurmm, could u please elaborate a little bit as i can't really see why my data partition will be filled up quickly.
As for now, every apps that I've installed, just go nicely into the sd-ext partition. (actually I've already read the comment about AIO patch in FroyoByLazslo thread, but just couldn't make my mind) .
And if it is really needed, should I reflashed everything back or I can just run the AIO? Thank you in advance
Update : I've tried the script AIO but got an error saying that MT3G dalvik-cache didn't need to be bind. It is normal ?

i would like to know this too..
You can just run the patch. No need to re-install everything.
Basically, the patch forces your ext partition to mount. Options 2 and 4 kind of work hand in hand with each other, while option 10 is a dalvik cache bind point. If you get an error with option 10, disregard.
In forcing the mount of ext, this ensures that future apps continue to properly install on the ext partition. they will still have a bind point, so don't fret. This is MUCH better than the ext option "possibly" messing up and your precious internal storage gets eaten away. While this has probably been fixed by now, since they are now in version 5.2 at the time of this post, I take no chances. LOL..
