Ok first of all, nice guide. I love the screen shots
Second, i suggest adding a download link for your files like the Cyanogen rom.
For the first, screenshot, you should have the rom be in the root of your sd card shown that its not in any folder or w/e...
You should also add links for downloading the Hard SPL and the OTA Radio found on the HTC website.
For formating the SD CArd, make sure your clearly state that its for 1 GB only and where to find how to format other sized sd cards.
Basically, the only thing you are REALLY missing are the links to download the files.
Last, thanks for the credit . This is a very good guide. Keep it up

Thanks for the nod in the credit section. It's nice to know that some people we help just don't take their answer and run but rather give back to the community like you did.
Even though this guide is very specific, I am sure it will help people. It's is neat, organized, well written, and the screen shots are very n00b friendly.
Great job, and welcome!
Edit: I did notice a small error...your links to the recovery flasher app are not links but just words. Seems like you forgot the hyperlink....

Did not realize hyperlinks were missing. I did this on word and i had all the links sorry.
And i mention you two cause i couldnt have done it without you.

Agreed.

On step 31, you really need to mention 2 things.
1- your "noob friend" really needs a bigger/faster sd card
2- he needs to make sure and put the parameters of his card (it may be 996, not 999)
But yeah, good guide overall.

Step 9 says to use "apply update.zip" but you didn't tell them to rename it to that. With no previous knowlege they won't know and might be scared to try the "apply any zip from sd" option.
Other then that guide looks pretty thorough and done well.

Word... just change the guide so that they use the next option to flash any .zip. You can also just have them download and copy all three files at once in the beginning, in the interest of efficiency, and flash one after the other.

They do not need to because the new cyanogen recovery img does not need you to.

WANT TO RUN HERO? READ THIS FIRST
I understand that new people dont really know much about hero, and that is alright. They will learn to search and figure things out on their own, but i am a little frustrated with seeing this constantly in the hero ROM threads. " i am stuck in a bootloop, my phone stays on the htc screen"
THIS IS NOT A BOOTLOOP! A bootloop is when you see the hero with the little green android and then the HTC "flashing" logo. I will post a video of a bootloop in little bit, but in the meantime here are a few ways to fix a bootloop.
For a video of what a bootloop is, click on THIS IS A BOOTLOOP RIGHT BELOW THISTHIS IS A BOOTLOOP
1) wipe phone and wipe ext and reflash.
to wipe the phone boot into recovery and press alt+w or if running CMRecovery 1.3 or 1.4 you should be able to use the trackball and select the option that way. To wipe ext use these commands in either adb shell or recovery console... NOT IN TERMINAL!!!
This is how I installed without any problems:
: rename to update.zip (if you are running cm1.4 recovery you can just place the zip in the root of sd)
: place in the root of sd card
: shut off device
: boot into recovery
: wipe
: go to console and hit enter (you can also use adb shell)
(enter)
# mount -o rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 /system/sd
# cd /system/sd
# rm -rf /system/sd/*
# reboot recovery
: now wipe again
: repair ext system
: flash
Enjoy!!

2) check to make sure you are running a PVT board. Cant remember right now if it is the three finger salute or power+camera. To do the three finger salute, boot holding the green button, menu, and the red button. At the top of the screen that shows up it will either say PVT or DVT.
3) redownload the .zip file for the rom you are trying to flash. Sometimes you may get a corrupt download or the transfer from computer to sd may go bad. A fresh download may help.
4) reformat your sd and recreate all partiitions usingparted in cyanogens 1.4 recovery image. It is one of the easiest ways to do things if you are not running linux.
5) and last but not least, if all else fails just go back to a stable cyan build or jf build.
Hope this helps everyone and cuts down on the questions junking up threads. I will bump this every now and then unless it gets stickied. Also expect edits to this for other questions that get asked. Before junking up threads try these options and SEARCH!!!

Fantastic Info. People need someone to spell out what's what.
Thank you it works. When I apply updates do you re-do all of this?

not all updates, always read the changelog for a ROM. if you are simply UPDATING to a NEWER version of the SAME ROM, you MIGHT NOT have to do all this. this is mostly for when you get a bootloop. if you are changing hero roms, i would say yes, do everything you can, wipe, wipe ext, and what not. this will help about the bootloop.
I use Hero-V1.5 by Drizzy and it does not state in change-log.

ok so what are you trying to do? go to a different Hero rom? if yes, then you need to wipe phone and ext, if updating from drizzy 1.4, i would say not to wipe, but if you get a bootloop wipe phone and try again.
please make this a sticky!!!! this a good info. hopefully if people search,it will help them out . great write up polosjr

Tell me what happens when you press home + power then alt + l when the screen comes up. .. and when that screen comes up does the g1 screen come up first? Cuz I think otherwise it might be a guaranteed brick :/
okay i gott itt to go to the menu. but i try to apply the v4.2.1 and it always aborts it =/
Try the Q&A forum next time.
I go to the menu. flash the 1.6 recovery image. Change Cyanogen to update. Try to flash it but it gets aborted
don't know about cy updates but it sounds like your may have a bad file. Have you installed this update before using the "same file"? if not you may try just redownloading the update.
really neeed helpp with this. Tried installing the v4.1.9999 and it still aborts
bummer. I'm not sure what all the prerequisites are for cy mods.. Hopefully someone else can jump in here to help ya :/
Think he may have aborted installation during the radio flash portion of the HTC archive.
From Cyanogen's OP:

That's not exactly the way it went for me the 2X I've done this, so maybe this is what happened...IDK?
I've had to reboot manually (Home+back) out of recovery following phase 1 of the flash to initiate the start the Radio flash portion. This may confuse some as it's not listed as a step.
Just to be sure, place fresh copies of dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip and cm4.2.1 in /sdcard prior to doing this. Use an external card reader if necessary.
1. Get into recovery
2. Wipe (optional but recommended, problems=include step 2)
3. Flash dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip
4. If phone does not reboot automatically, reboot manually (Home+back) out of recovery and release buttons immediately
5. Let Radio flash (you see the image of the box with the arrow and the eprom chip)
6. Wait for screen to go completely black then hold "Home" button until it reboots back to recovery console.
7. Flash CM4.2.1
I noticed 4.2.1 took an unusually long time to load on initial boot, so be patient.
If this has nothing to do with your issue, sorry for wasting your time. Hopefully this helps somebody eventually.

There are 2 things you could do, use cyans file, and make sure you flash the HTC image first, as his update file is a partial update without the google experience (read apps)
This is taken from Cyans OP in his thread and edited for you, please follow the instructions properly.
Note: You need cyanogens recovery image 1.4 or better for this process, as it lets you chose files named other than update.zip
Install instructions for an HTC Dream/ADP1/G1:
1- Perform a Backup......nandroid, etc (ignore since i don't suppose you have anything to backup at this moment)
2- Download: http://developer.htc.com/adp.html#s3 Android 1.6 Recovery Image. This isn't the type of recovery image we know. It's HTCs version of an update.zip
3- Download cyanogens ROM. http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/update-cm-4.2.1-signed.zip
4- Mount your phone and place BOTH 1.6 Image and cyanogens ROM on your SD Card.
5- Reboot into recovery mode *Home+Power*
6- WIPE!!!! This will allow google apps to function, correctly.
7- Apply sdcard:choose zip *PICK dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip* from the list
ALLOW IT TO INSTALL FIRST.....you will see the "unbox" image.........then it will automatically reboot HOLD HOME button while it reboots.
(ITS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU HOLD THE HOME BUTTON, BECAUSE IF IT THE HTC ROM BOOTS, YOU WILL HAVE TO RE-ROOT YOUR PHONE)
8- Apply sdcard:choose zip *Pick cm-4.2.1-signed.zip* from the list.
9- Reboot!
OR
download daveid's full update from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=80FXE36J or http://www.mediafire.com/?dnljdtndwnv
and just flash normally.
Oh and to mount your sd card to transfer the rom images to it from your computer when in recovery (Alt-X), use this command (in recovery, on your phone)
echo /dev/block/mmcblk0 > /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file
Finally, as someone else mentioned, please post in the right section.
how did u get ur phone to go back to the menu because the same thing happened to me
Sorry for may bad english !
I have the same problem. After flash rom OTA 1.6 of HTC, now i lose the recovery cm-1.4.

When boot in recovery, it look like before hack root, we can't update the other file, exception "update.zip".
When i type "su" in terminal, it return "permission denied".
-I tried to update another rom but i didn't run.
-I tried to flash another recovery by Fastboot but not success.
-I tried to flash another SPL but not success.
-The last hope, i tried to re-hack root by DREAIMG.nbh but not success too.
Okay I had the same problem and know how to fix it.
1. Download 1.5 Cupcake here
2. Copy the file to the root of your SD and name it Update.zip
3. Boot recovery and press Alt + S to install Cupcake
4. Now that you`ve got Cupcake download Flashrec here
5. Make sure that you allow installing non market programs on your phone.
6. Open Flashrec after installing it and click backup recovery!! VERY IMPORTANT, didn`t do it the first time and it didn`t work.
7. After backup is finished you download the recovery given by the program
8. When the download is complete you select flash recovery.
9. Reboot, and flash your Custom Firmware again.
IMPORTANT!: All of the 1 click rooting procedures are putting the Flashrec.apk file and a recovery image on the SD card, installing Flashrec and then using it to flash the new recovery image. You WILL NOT have internal root access after this procedure (it only allows us external root access from recovery)
10. I installed the full version of 4.2.1 which was linked on the previous page of this thread, and it installed the right radio, spl and hboot.
So everything is normal again, thank god. Ow after i installed the full version of 4.2.1 it didn`t work but i had the recovery back and root so i installed the oldskool 4.1.1.1 and it works.
Good luck and this took me 5 hours to find out!

Installation instructions
***First and foremost, extract the zip file to a folder on your desktop. It is NOT a stand-alone CWM zip file!***
To install the first splash screen(displayed before MAGLDR):
1. Power off your HD2.
2. Holding the volume down key, press the power button and turn on the device. Continue to hold the volume down key until you see a rainbow screen. This is the bootloader screen.
3. Plug your HD2 into your PC and you should see it switch to "USB". Your PC may need to install drivers. If it does, wait for it to finish and then you should see "USB" on your device.
4. Once you are connected to your PC and your phone displays "USB", open the folder labeled "First (Before MAGLDR)" and run "CustomRUU.exe". Follow the on-screen prompts and instructions and you will soon see it flashing your device. Don't worry, this will not erase anything on your device. It will only change the first splash screen you see before MAGLDR and nothing else.
5. Once the update is complete, your phone will reboot itself.
6. Enjoy your new first splash screen!
To install the second splash screen(displayed after MAGLDR):
1. Copy "HTC_Splash_Screen.zip" to somewhere on your SD card that you will remember where it is.
2. Reboot your device and hold the power key until you boot into MAGLDR.
3. Select option 8 to boot into CWM Recovery.
4. Using install zip from SD Card option, browse to where you copied the zip file to and select it as the file you want to install.
5. After installation has finished, reboot recovery and your phone will boot back up again into Android.
6. Enjoy your new second splash screen!
To install the Boot Animation(displayed after 2nd Splash Screen):
1. Copy "HTC_Boot_Animation.zip" to somewhere on your SD card that you will remember where it is.
6. Enjoy your new Boot Animation!
You will find the download for this great new HTC "Stock" Splash Screen and Boot animation below.
Enjoy and don't forget to hit the Thanks button if you enjoy my work!

Splash 1(before MAGLDR) is to be flashed from bootloader using CustomRUU. NOT CWM. If you try to use CWM it will just fail since it's not a CWM zip file.
Splash 2(after MAGLDR) is to be flashed from CWM.
Read the instructions I wrote up in the first post and it will walk you through every step of the process.
Enjoy!
Boot animation removed temporarily. Ironing out some bugs.
EDIT: Boot animation is fixed and back online! Enjoy folks!!

[ROM][GT-P7510][WiFi Only] Speckfree ROM (Honeycomb 3.1)

This is a project of mine to create near-clean ROMs for the GT-P7510 Galaxy Tab. This is my first ever ROM. If you have any feedback or requests, I'll read it if it's posted as a reply.
This ROM is based on the Honeycomb 3.1 OTA for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wi-Fi. This version removes some components; next version which will be version 1.1 will remove more if I missed any.
The Regular Edition removes Samsung's bloatware apps.
The Plus Edition removes most of Google Apps, except for the market so you can still get apps from there.
I am not responsible if something breaks, related to the tablet or not.
Before you flash a version of this ROM, you will need the following:
ODIN 3 (if you don't have ClockWorkMod)
ClockWorkMod (if you don't have ClockWorkMod)
Samsung USB Drivers (if you don't have ClockWorkMod, or aren't downloading the ROM via the tablet)
One of the ROMs at the end of this post
At least a half hour of battery power.
Follow these instructions if you don't have ClockWorkMod, once the ROM is on the tablet:
1. Extract ODIN into a new folder.
2. Extract ClockWorkMod into the ODIN folder.
3. Start ODIN.
4. Click "PDA" and select the ClockWorkMod file.
5. Turn off your Galaxy Tab 10.1.
6. Plug your tablet into your computer.
7. Turn on your tablet, pressing the Power and Volume Down buttons.
8. Press Volume Up once the two icons appear. It will auto-select the right icon. Press Volume Down if the left icon is selected.
9. It will ask for confirmation. Press Volume Up.
10. It will then connect to the computer. Press Start on ODIN. Do not remove the cable as it is overwriting the recovery!
It will automatically reboot after it finishes the process. The remaining parts don't need the computer.
Now that you have the ClockWorkMod recovery, follow the instructions in the next section of this post.
Installation Instructions with ClockWorkMod installed:
1. Shut down your tablet.
2. Turn it back on, holding down the Power and Volume Down
3. Press the Volume Down button to select the recovery option. Press Volume Up to select.
4. Select "install zip from sdcard" using the volume buttons, selecting using the power button.
5. Select "choose zip from sdcard" using the volume buttons, selecting using the power button.
6. Locate the file you copied to your tablet, and select.
7. Select Yes to start the process.
8. Once the install finishes, you'll be at the main menu.
9. Select "Wipe Data/Factory Reset".
10. Confirm, and it will wipe /data and /cache.
11. Select "Reboot System Now".
12. It'll go through the setup process as normal.
Regular Edition Changes:
Rooted.
Deleted:
Amazon MP3
Bluetooth Test
CSC
Factory Test
Kindle
LCD Test
Music Hub
Pulse
QuickOffice
Samsung Apps
Polaris Office
Service Mode App
Weatherbug Tablet
WLAN Test
Plus Edition also Changes:
Removes:
YouTube
Google Books
Street View
Google Talk
Google Mail
Quick Search Box
Voice Search
Maps
Links are disabled.
Awesome... Will give this a run... Thanks!

so ummm... dude.... what are you posting here? there are no installation instructions and your file system in the zip you provided looks like some sort of really messed up nandroid backup. this is a horrible thing to do to others considering they are going to try and flash in CWM. whats going on here??? im not trying to be hard on you because i know this is your first rom. but with your OP in conjunction with the files you've provided it's just asking for trouble. you really shouldn't be posting things like this bro. it's dangerous.

I'm in the process of uploading the CWM-flashable zip without the other two files (ODIN and CWM itself) now. I've added instructions as well. I assumed others would understand what I was doing... :/
Thank you for your feedback on my packaging (and my total lack of instructions).

The speckfree-1.zip file is the image. I brought down the original file, and that file will be the sole download from now on.

no problem. but expecting others to just "understand" isn't really the thing to do when we have newcomers coming in everyday that don't yet understand a ton of things. so i was just pointing that out basically. even the people who do know what's going on would like to know what and how they need to flash before they waste their bandwidth on a 200mb plus download ya know. good luck.
