Sorry i didnt feel like researching this, but does any ROM recognize NTFS instead of FAT32, cuz FAT32 kinda sucks...
What sucks about fat32?
You are going to need an android linux kernel that supports ntfs but if you were going to modify one to do so wouldn't you just screw ntfs and make it ext3/4 instead?

I don't think that there is anything that doesn't support FAT32. So what's the problem? To answer your question... currently, no.

Hi I just figured out that when I partitioned my sd card I partitioned a swap2 partition instead of swap, so my question is: does that make any difference? And if so is there a way to correct that? Thanks.
theres a possibility that it wouldnt work. If i were you, id go with the normal swap. Just rmove the swap2 and repartition to swap
Double post...sorry

No it won't work. I tried it by accident and the flash failed.
Then reformat your sd again to a linux swap again, the kernel does not support swap2
just use parted then rm 3 then linux-swap
Hi all,
Soon receiving a microSD for my Samsung Galaxy S. What is the best way to format this? Simply stick it in the phone and click 'yes' when being asked about it?
Or should I pre-format the microSD before sticking it in the phone, so I can use another/better filesystem than whatever the phone would default to?
If so: Which filesystems are supported (for a 16GB microSD), and which one would be the best one?

I formatted mine with fat32 file system, works a treat and never had any problems.
I was wondering if I can format my SD card with NTFS ? I would like to place some >4GB files on it... Also, how would this affect performance ?

i think i'll give it a try later today
since i have so many SD cards
if it works that will solve a lot of headaches from the FAT32 restrictions
Hello. I want to be able to copy files bigger than 4GB to my microsd card. It is currently formatted with FAT32 file system. Any idea if I can use NTFS for example? I need to be able to copy large video files (.mkv), and I need to find a way to do that.
I believe that exFAT will work withour any problems.

And this will work on my Andoid 2.3.6 SGN? Can someone confirm that? Is there anyone who uses exFAT on his SGN?
Anyone who uses exFAT on his SGN?
my SGN works with 16gb exFAT, 16gb FAT32, 16gb FAT but not 16gb NTFS.
i read on xda that the SGN needs to be rooted with a custom kernel to use NTFS microsd.

How you made it working with exFAT?
As far as I know exFAT isn't working on the stock SGN.
I had to format my 64 GB SDXC (which is exFAT, preformatted) in the SGN to get it working.
Regards

And you have formatted it using FAT32 right?
Does the s2 support NTFS SD cards?
No, but you can compile support into the kernel. It's under File System -> NTFS Support in 'make menuconfig'. I'll probably release my kernel soon.
Just for the record: It does support ExFAT.

I was thinking along the same lines, for what reason would you format an sdcard to NTFS for use in Android? It'll cause no end of issues.

Maybe he thinks he'll get better transfer speeds with NTFS?
ExFat. That's grand for HD contents. Can I format to ExFat with the s2 or is a PC necessary?

Go into storage settings and select format. Most already come formatted exFAT.
You sure, it will format to ExFat and not Fat32?
Also, can the s2 read ExFat and/or NTFS via OTG?
I currently use NTFS SD cards for HD content on my Nvidia Shield tablet (no root).

Yep, any large capacity memory cards are formatted to exFat and almost always come formatted as such.
The kernel has native support for exFAT.
That's ridiculous. I'm very disappointed.
That appears to be an new limitation in AOSP 8.1, yes, so maybe not entirely Razer's fault though I guess they could have added it if they want. There appears to be a Magisk module that adds support via fuse if you need it. Search for "vold" in the repo. Haven't tried it yet but it seems to do what you want
HUH?
So what FS is used to format large microSD cards?

Fat32, exfat requires a payment to Microsoft and I guess they didn't want to
It'll format your cards and it might make you think your card was corrupt and you'll lose your data if it's not blank
I use exfat on my 200gb SanDisk

That's fine but the phone won't read it and will reformat it
Not true
I'm using it in the actual moment on a SanDisk 200gb
I would return the phone if there would be no option to use a filesystem that supports files larger than 4gb

That's not possible. Put the actual card in your computer and post the fs.
Are you sure you mean exfat and not ext?
Wow this is disappointing. no wonder why i couldn't use my sandisk from my sony xz premium because it was formatted in exFAT.
If you use Magisk, install Vold. It will corrupt data first time (at least it did for me) so make a back up of everything before you do, after the corruption I just factory reset, reinstalled everything and it's working fine. I use my 256 gig USB c drive that's formatted as ntfs with it. I haven't tried it yet with other formats.
same question as you.
Does anyone know of an exfat solution similar to VOLD on 9.0?
