Hello Everyone,
I want to know which is so far the best ORIGINAL Rogers Dream rom w/everything on it. Also what is the latest, fastest, and reliable rom for rosie. I wanna make this a sort of a reference thread. I want the latest of both. Also what are the exact steps to putting on a rom like that on my untouched tmobile g1. I haven't hacked or anything to it besides unlocking. Please let me know.
Thank You
To get the rom on your phone go to the development forum, then go to the helpful links thread and youll find good tutorials in there. Or you can go to the development forum and use the search tool on the right towards the top and type in 'root' that should also get you the tutorials. but dont just go to the development forum and start a thread asking how to root they will verbally abuse you until they are pleased with themselves in there. If you absolutely cant find the root thread let me know and ill give you a link
As far as rosie i wouldnt use any of the builds that are out right now. If youre used to using the stock/stable android you will be sorely disappointed at the lag and lack of capability (no bluetooth, no led, no auto rotate in sms, popping keyboard out on homescreen causes the phone to loose its mind, every button you press reacts slower than the stock build). It will get better but dont even bother for now. If you have to try it id go with 'Youre my hero' thread in development forum (by drizzy drake)and use the Fullv3 version or else the jachero (developed along with ccyrowski) 1.4 both of these builds are within the first several threads in the development forum
I would go to the development thread and search for JACMyTouchSki version 2.5.2----its stable and has some fun features to play with, it also has the stock theme/look to it which i like, it also auto rotates everywhere including the homescreen, you can also choose how many desktop screens you want and so on, it is the best build in my opinion. if you must have rogers just type that into the search in the development forum and look for the threads that begin with [ROM]

OK, I have spent the last hour perusing various threads here trying to determine how to flash a new ROM. I know basic questions liek this are discouraged as people feel "the answers are out there". But, there are dozens (if not hundreds) of posts, all with confusing/contradictory information. I've learned enough to believe I understand the hard/soft SPL issues, but still have alot of questions.
Primary question: Is there a single place which is kept updated with a set of clear steps to update the ROM, including SPL, radio, ROM, and whatever else may be needed? Ideally this would be the most robust/reliable version of these things currently available.
Secondary questions are:
1. If I install a new ROM will I need to re-install of the current programs running on the phone (like SPB pocket plus, Garmin, HTC audio manager, etc)?
2. Should the ROM be flashed before the SPL, after, or it doesn't matter? (Seems llike the HardSPL would be needed first).
3. Is there a place to get the most recent/tested/reliable versions of the SPL, the ROM, and the Radio?
4. Is there a place to decribe the differences between the items in #3 above, and to make recommendations as to whcih to choose? (I simply need a reliable version which runs WM 6.1, and ideally which would allow configuration of the controls on the side of the Tilt - or even just disable all of them.)
Thanks.
1) yes
2) spl first, one time only.
3) Kaiser Rom section
4) I used q-mobile 1.2 b/c nothing was as fast and stable (mostly fast) as that wm 6 rom. If you have time, it is always best to experiment and find out which is best for you.

OK, a few more hours down the road -- I flashed the HardSPL (Kaiser-HardSPLv1.zip) with no problems. I found DUtty's Diamond ROM RUU Signed and have that ready to flash, but first ---- will this be OK on the Tilt? Will I need to fix the keyboard afterwards?

come on man, if you can't find these answers on this site, you might not be ready to flash roms.. there are literally 100s of posts and 95% of the time any question you have has already been answered, especially when you know the name of a program is "tilt keyboard fix" that you will need it to "fix your tilt keyboard"... and naming you thread "don't hate me" pretty much eliminates any future help this thread will be unless for some reason another noob searches for the word "don't" or "hate"... Don't be afraid to ask questions if you see that it's something that hasn't already been answered.
I'm obviously not ready to flash ROM's -- that is why I ask these questions - to get ready.
The fact that there are hundreds of posts is the problem.
If there is a post that answers my specific question, please point me to it:
"If I use the Duffy Diamond ROM, will I need to use the Tilt Keyboard fix"?
P.S. Spending your time to not answer the question is kindof a waste, right? If you don't want to answer, go do something more productive.

hahah duffy... hahahah
and yes u have to use tilt keyboard fix to getthe layout for the tilt. or actually advanced config, which comes on the rom, should have an option on there of what keyboard layout to use. good luck

nope, it is a continuing effort to discourage people from starting redundant threads, very productive.

** This is NOT intended as a flame **
Look, here's the deal... Everybody understands that there are hundreds of dead-end/useless threads that exist in the Kaiser sections (thousands when you count the rest of the site).
The unfortunate fact of the matter is that until junior members learn to start searching for the answer to their question before creating new threads, the search function built-in to the site will continue to be polluted with conflicting information.
This site is not designed for people who are not willing to do any work for themselves. You do NOT appear to be one of these people since you have done some reading.
So in closing,
Read the Kaiser Wiki, read the "**BEFORE YOU POST START HERE** FAQ, Wiki, Stickies & Tutorials - Suggestions Welcome!" thread, and most importantly, once you are ready to flash your first ROM, read the entire thread for the ROM before downloading and flashing.
That last part can be daunting for Dutty's ROMs since they are arguably the most popular on the site, but it is a necessity.
Thanks to those with useful answers, I was able to get everything working.
To Dutty, I need to apologize as my older eyes interpreted the screen as Duffy. I have learned now, and I appreciate your work in providing the ROM's.
Believe me, I spent alot of time (all day today actually) reading through stuff. The simple fact is there is too much stuff, it is too scattered, and there are several possible starting points.
For future reference, the best single reference point (for me anyway) was:

To avoid you from getting flamed , check out the wiki for general guidlines now to the questions
1. If you flash ROM your phone will be better, MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE ROM SECTION, MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT FLASH A CDMA ROM TO YOUR PHONE. For warranty purposes you can always restore your phone to factory (reflash factory rom, radio, etc.) for a return, I have never had an issue returning a device to ATT (just reflashed factory rom/radio and returned). Remember, back up your personal data (email, contacts, etc.), Hard-SPL, then flash. If you follow the directions its easy and safe, and you can always go back if you need to return the device.
2. Microsoft has not yet rolled out an app store (its coming) most roms have a bunch of stuff cooked in, check out this forum for apps or www.fuzemobility.com for others. Also if you want an app store like product, go to the Hacking and Development forum (towards the top of all the forums) and search for JAK, its a community app store you can setup on your phone (and it is badass)
3. settings>system>remove programs find the theme on the list and remove it.
Thats it you get your one round of noob questions, for the rest read the threads and spend some time in the forums!
hah thanks alot aaronsmckee i just noticed the *READ THIS BEFORE POSTING* thread .. ima have to look around the websites you gave me..thanks alot
1. Here is a post for a cleaner install that doesnt flash the ROM and void the warranty.

how to handle this situation
I made a website specifically to keep threads like this from spiraling out of control. So when you get a guy like this looking for awesomeee APPS and really cool TwEaKs and warentee info just say go to blownfuze.org and the thread can then be closed.

Here's an extensive list of tips/tricks/tweaks/apps for the Fuze: http://www.ppcmobility.com/forums/showthread.php?t=367
It's part of FuzeMobility.com and it's the one line version of all of their postings
Please can one of you clever people help me. I have read loads of posts and sticky's but remain totally confused. Let me lay it out:
The first smart phone i had was a motorola A1000. using a symbian operating system. This was a quite a few years ago and I played with this loads, flashing it, making it a remote for my tv, etc. Since then I have got married, had kids, got two jobs, blah blah and totally fallen out of the loop. I used an SPVM500 on Orange as standard for a couple of years and then an HTC Touch as standard for the last couple of years. Never bothering to play or flash or fiddle.
Two days ago I upgraded to the HD which I was happyish with until someone told me I had a great phone, the best phone, infact even better than an Iphone, but within a month it would be out of date because it uses an old operating system (which lets be honest, isnt great) and I would have no access to a new iphone type store, easier menu's, iphone rival home screen etc
Now reading on here, it seems i need to flash my phone to a new Windows Mobile 6.5 release, which I assume will then make it the best phone ever again!!
Right, if thats correct and I have understood right so far I have only two questions
1. Why so many of these roms - is there not a simple list where the best one goes on top when its released
2. Is there a link to a very simple, some may even say slightly retarded, explanation on how to hold phone in one hand and magic rom impregnator in the other and let them bump uglies? I have seen a post by crackwhore (I assume you arent really one, althuogh if you are will you sort my phone for me for a small rock?) but still remain unsure of some of the language, processes and of course, which ROM to use
Basically, I want the ROM that makes everything work to the best of its ability. I also need and use office apps and want to put my tomtom mobile 6 on to it too
****** DISCLAIMER ******
Please accept my sincere apologies for being inexcusably slow - I am starting to feel like my dad needing to be tought how to text.
Hi,
Flashing a ROM is now childs play. All you need to do is put Hard SPL on your phone (See Crackwhore's step by step guide or the wiki articles on the Blackstone), and then download and flash your ROM. Hard SPL allow's you to flash custom ROMs BTW.
There is no best ROM by the way. It's too subjective, Alice's favourite ROM maybe nothing like Bob's, etc... I'd try one of the more popular ROM's on the Front page (Personally I started on Dutty's ROM's many years ago). There are so many ROM's because different people like different things (some are WM6.1, some are 6.5, some have lot's of apps, some have none).
Take your time to read through wiki articles, they go through ROM flashing step by step. All the information is there.
Thanks
Dave
1. There is soo many roms because everyone has different likes and dislikes. Some are based on WM6.1 and either 1.19, 1.56 or 1.57. Some are based on WM6.5
People have tried previously to make a list, but to judge which is better is a different story and a whole new can of worms.
Check out the wiki and section on roms. You'll find a list (slightly out of date) listing roms. Link to wiki in my signature
2. If you follow cRaCKwHoRe's guide you'll have no problems. If you don't want to follow the whole guide, I'd recommend using new HSPL 1.56. Someone on "cRaCKwHoRe's guide" thread will help you out if you get stuck. Link to guide and HSPL in my signature.
EDIT
Arrrgh!!!........I see DavidShaw beat me too it!!!! LOL
Then again if you just got your phone, why the need to flash it right away?
I would play with it for a while, install a few apps here, read through some tweaking guides there. Eventually you will learn to use the phone, and thus also learn how to use your phone. If you have been out of the loop for some time, let it grow on you before you manipulate your newly acquired device. It is a great phone, even without all the roms out there. Many aspects of the newer roms out there can be achieved by installing some apps. Granted not all of the newer features are available on the stock rom (calendar tab for example).
Once you start flashing you will always want more, let me tell you that . So enjoy your phone for a while before you start experimenting.

Good advice.
Yes definately get to know your device and read up on the wiki. If after all of this you want to flash, at least you'll be prepared
great advice, thanks all - will try and get tt6 working first as thats what is really annoying me most!!

Your problem is that your most likely not using correct version of tomtom. TT7 is out, but you'll need to check which build or version of 7 works on the HD.
Go to Themes, Applications and Software forum and do a search for tomtom. I've started you off with these 2 threads:
TomTom On HD
TomTom - What Version??
Hope this helps
fantastc - thanks so much. will be bedtime reading for me tonight
(its the same tt6 i had on my touch. i have just taken the mini sd card out of one and into the other which has the .cab files and maps already on it)

I'd keep all your files, especially the maps etc. Go onto one of the threads I listed above, probably the first is the best one and they'll be able to guide you in the right direction. I'd imagine your maps should work on another version.
I have version TomTom 7_910.9185 working with no problems. If you PM with your email address I'll happily email it to you. I do however believe their is some newer versions, though some have had problems with them
Morning!
Im tinkering around learning about adding apps and customizations to existing ROMS. Im messing around with Tayutama Edition v1.0.2 (I9000) superslim, and i want to add shortcuts to the desktop and remove existing ones. Where would i find that info? I think i read its just in a xml file but i cannot see one that includes the information in the ROM
2nd Question: Do i have to keep the modem.bin file in the ROM? i just dont need to keep flashing it every time i test if the radio hasnt changed
3rd Question: I put in Handcent SMS into the /system/app to install when it flashes, but it crashes when i go to settings. Anyone else seen this?
Im very new to this, but a quick study! Any help is appreciated!!
Cheers!
Anybody Know? Maybe i posted this in the wrong forum? Arg i have just hit a wall and i cannot find the answers im looking for!!!
Cheers!
AllGamer and I share the forum-level moderating responsibilties for the SGS i9000 areas. While I have asked ragin (and ask the same of everyone here) to use the "report this" button at the top of every thread/post to notify us of things like this, this thread (and several others he has comment similarly in) are indeed misplaced and do not belong in the development section.
If anyone is unclear as to the proper location/placement for threads, particularly in regards to the development section, I advise you to read both the "STOP!! Before you post, read this NOW!!" thread at the top of each section...it has clear and extensive guidelines for what should and should not be posted in the development section.
We appreciate everyone's cooperation in both proper placement of threads/posts, as well as proper use of the methods for handling ones that end up here improperly
Deleted. Changed my mind about the question
First of all I am sorry if any of this has been asked before.
Out of experience what are the best ROM's for a i9305, I have tried a few and have experienced a few issues mainly my computer wont recognise the device other than in camera mode and when I go back to stock it does. I am personally looking for something that is clean, easy to live with, bloatware removed and sort of like how Android was back in the day kind of 'empty' as such.
I only ask this question because when I am in the development section there is loads of fancy tags associated with the ROMs and I like things to start simple and then I complicate things.
So only personal oppionon and reccomendations what ROM's would you guys advise? please try and give me as much detail about what you like bout them
