This new Build brings significant changes to the Start Menu button which has now been moved to the bottom and the taskbar (or the status bar) on the top looks smaller like it is on Android and iPhone. Other changes includes the removal of scrollbar from the dial pad and the refined magnified taskbar (or the status bar) which comes up when you touch on it.
These new changes have clearly been done as a part of Microsoft’s ongoing effort to make Windows Phones more finger friendly. You can go ahead and test-drive this new Build on your Windows Phone, capable of running Windows Mobile 6.5.
NOTE: Windows Mobile 6.5 Build 23034 is time bombed. You must use patched shell32.exe (download link given below) to avoid expiration of this build.
http://keznews.com/6122_Windows_Mobile_6_5_Build_23034
how do you install it
Ditto to the how do you install it bit. Does it need to be cooked into a custom rom ?
The ROM must be custom cooked to work with a particular phone. From what I can tell it is a VGA version of WM 6.5.
Thanks for the heads up anyway.
Guess we should give the heads up to those that do the cooking and see what comes back to us. I downloaded but, since can't use it pre-cooked, not much to do with it.

Yeah, I'm sure the cookers are looking for new ingredients anyway, probably old news.
the link from keznews is broken now, could you please come up with the same file???
is this the last update????
Manuel.
Check the "Development And Hacking" section for the newest builds, actually it is 23409!
What is the latest?
I haven't seen anything posted for the Treo since 8/9 - is there anything later? I know that navenroob was supposed to update last month but that thread has been silent. I would like to be able to update to 6.5 again (I have updated to it before but there were too many bugs for me to keep it.), I have gone back to 6.1 but would really like to upgrade. Any news?
In an aside, I would like some homescreen updates.

Hi everyone, Not been here in awhile, lots has moved on
I am after a Windows Mobile 6.5.1 Rom for My T-Mobile Compact IV (Touch Diamond) but need a recommendation.
I am looking for a Rom that has the following features still in it:
> QuickGPS
> YouTube
> RSS Hub
> Voice Dialing
> Remote Desktop
> Facebook app would be nice
> Windows Live Messenger
> Opera
> Latest (or as close as poss) HTC TouchFlo3d
> Preferably the Manila theme
> Internet Sharing
> Also would like it to be as close as possible to the Official rom as in looks feel and functionaility (ie programs etc) but hopefully improved speed/stability
Oh and I will need to get My TomTom working on it so if that requires something that is part of the OS that can't be removed. Also whats this MTTY? Before I have just use hardspl to use roms is this an alternative???
+ I install Skype as well...
Or would you recommend win mo 7 rom? To be honest I would prob rather stick to 6.5.1 and goto 7 with a new device. Maybe the Diamond 2....
Must be stable as possible and english - I have done plenty of flashing roms on my phone as I have had a few problems with some but not touched 6.5 as of yet (or a 7 release)
Want to begin flashing Sunday, But the other reason for stable is I want the least risk of bricking my device as its the only phone I have and can't afford a new one :-( Waiting for my contract to run out next year....
Is anyone kind enough to be able to recommend a rom to me please?
you mean you want a rom with all those programs included
or just a rom which support those programs when installed?
and wm7 is not out yet not even in beta
Good Morning,
I am looking for those programs to be included in the rom.
Also I know Win7 not released but I thought there was some sort of rom here with win7 leaked or something etc.
Well, I think it's not yet the time for WM6.5.1, at least in Diamond.
I've already tried some rom, result is switching back immediately.
In my opinion, there're so many bugs in 6.5.1 that these cooked roms can't fit for a daily use.
I'm realy love 6.5.1, especially its taskbar. Hope Microsoft will soon release official WM6.5.1 which is more stable than those rom we have.
i've been using BSB 6.5.1D lately and it works like a charm
Yeh I saw the BSB one but wasn't sure about it, I quite like the look of this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=563245
The one titled 'Windows Revolution Manila Edition'
however it has the RSS Hub and RemoteDesktop removed when I want both of them, actually I prob could live without them both. Has anyone thoughts or advice on this rom? Might give it ago later.
I have downloaded the one I linked to but The WWE Clean B version and I'll install the Manila and Remote Desktop, has anyone got a cab for the RSS Hub?
Why don't you try lite/native rom and install whatever you want ?
I'm running CDMA on Sprint, so I am not sure how the GSM version performs in comparison however, I personally have had great luck with EnergyROM, running NRG's October 25th build on 23081.
That being said, there are several people on the forums complaining about lockups on their devices while using this ROM, in particular, when accessing messaging through manila. I however, have yet to experience these problems.
The battery settings do need a bit tweaked though, I personally used the CAB file located at the bottom of this thread: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=1077887&postcount=6356.
Looking over what you were looking for in a ROM, this does contain all of those, except voice command, which he does have a link for on his ROM page (At least, once again, for the CDMA diamond build)
It might be worth looking into, as the build and presentation of NRG's ROMs do feel very professional. But in the end, it comes down to playing around with various ROMs to see what works, and what dosn't.
Hope I helped!
Edit : His thread over here hasn't been updated since the Sept 20th build (Which had issues), the thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517300
However, the hotfile link for his downloads from that thread, ( http://hotfile.com/list/93325/99ab7ab ) does appear to have the newer Oct 25th build on it. Once again, I recommend trying it out, but it isn't for everyone. When it comes to ROM's, everyone has their own taste and preference, it would seem.
I know I'm gonna get slammed for even posting this but I'm hoping someone can make a recommendation for me. I've been using rom's from xda-developers for years on various devices and now have a Tilt 2. I guess I'm old fashioned because I prefer the WM5 style today screen (screenshot below) and don't like Sense, Manila, or even the default WM6.5 today screen. I'd love to use the Tilt2 roms but am not seeing any that don't include either of those.
Can somebody please recommend a solid and current rom that uses the WM5 style today screen?
Thanks very much...
Greg
just go into today > items and disable windows default on Titanium or disable toughflo on Manilla builds, you'll be left with the original windows 6.1 today screen which is pretty close to that of WM5.
Then you can install all of those plugin that you had there to make it look identical again.

I can do that but was more looking for a rom that didn't have them there to begin with because they may get loaded even though I'm not showing them on the today screen. That's a lot of overhead if they are loaded. No big deal if I'm wrong, I can certainly disable them that way.
Thanks for the advice...

Are you recommending the Firestorm ROM or one version of it?
You probably can cook your own from the official ROMs. Da_G gives out ROMs without manila, but it does have titanium in it.
I'm by no means an expert, but I would guess that titanium would be more difficult to remove from an OS build, as it comes as part of WinMo. Manila/Sense comes from HTC, so it is probably easier to break off from the base OS. I'm betting that if you disable Titanium as mentioned above, you'll remove whatever overhead there is.
Also, as mentioned above, Da_G's ROM is sans manila... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577594 ... it appears to be made specifically for the Tilt 2, judging by the title of the thread.
Hi All,
I too am looking you for this, I can assure you I've flashed almost every rom out there... Da_G is indeed a clean one but I hate the new builds with the big buttons at the bottom...
@ Agent_47, is the rom you propose has this as well I suppose...
;(
So....
I have a TP2 ( RHO100 ) and I have the stock WWE rom from HTC with WM6.5 installed but now the the HD2 is out I've seen videos of it with the new Manila 2.5.
And I have fallen in love with the wdiget home screen and new fully screen weather animations. I am also very interested in the ability to have threaded SMS.
I have tried doing some searches for ROMs that contain the new manila 2.5 but I am not sure which one would be best. A lot of them seem to make their own preferential upgrades, or they removed parts to make them faster, but I am a little wary they may cut out things that I want.
Can anyone recommend a ROM that is as close to the stock as possible, whilst just upgrading to WM6.5.1 and Manila 2.5, with all the original stuff. I'd like to customise my taskbar etc myself rather than have it chosen for me...
What can you guys recommend?
That's a good question. I don't know if a total stock ROM exist with 6.5.1/3 and Manila 2.5.
Give it a try

Can I also back this question, that is exactly what I am looking for.
Hi,
My experience...
I have tried many roms (energy, athineos, josh's, fusion...) and first, I think, you have to decide if you want:
- windows mobile 6.1(very old), 6.5, 6.5.1 or 6.5.3. There are separates into 2 categories (6.1 and 6.5 / 6.5.1 and 6.5.3). The most difference I have noticed is that the button "Start" is on the top left corner or at the bottom of the screen.
- manila 2.1 or 2.5. The version 2.5 is most recent but there are many bugs for the landscape mode. It doesn't work for many tabs. But it is the best of both version. The version 2.1 is working fine.
After, for all roms I have tried, every times I have some bugs. Often there are very very minor problems (example: bugs with the lock screen, freeze, slow performance...) and to solve them I just have to soft reset the phone. I think it depend of your provider, rom radio, utilization of your phone: bluetooth with headset, software you use...
You must also choose the design you prefer.
Testing is the best way to find your best rom.
Very big thinks to all chief who work hardto create these roms.
I hope it can help you and you can read my bad english;-).
Bye.

Vinsyl, thanks very much yes, elab is right, you make some good points.
However, may I digress...
I have already done a lot of investigating into the differences between the builds....
- I mentioned that I want to see 6.5.1 because it's more stable and more importantly has threaded SMS, which is what I'm after more than anything.
- It's only 6.5.3 from what I can tell which has moved the start menu to those silly blobs at the bottom.
- After research I also came to the conclusion that it Manila 2.5 was heavily buggy in pre-release, especially in landscape mode..... however, having now seen a full release on the HD2 and I'm guessing working in full landscape mode with all it's own apps, I was guessing that one of the CHEF's will have had a chance to rip Manila 2.5 out of the HD2 and whack it in a TP2 rom.
So Remember, I'm not looking for a STOCK rom, that comes from HTC. I'm looking for a Stock ROM base, cooked up to WM 6.5.1 with a seasoning of Manila 2.5 and no further additives. Is there a chef willing to try something so CRAZY?!

6.5 does threaded SMS. (it's the first thing I turn off though, I hate it) You will need a tweak program to enable / disable, sometimes the cook will provide something built in. (sometimes in Start -> Settings -> System menu there is a "Threaded SMS" icon, otherwise use Rhodium Tweak Tool or HD Tweak one of those will do it)
And 6.5.1 has the "silly blobs at the bottom" same as 6.5.3
If you want start menu at the top you want 6.5 (or 6.1 I suppose). Also if you are looking for STABLE you want 6.5.
6.5.1 / 6.5.3 are from leaked Microsoft BETA code and therefore aren't really designed to be stable, of course you may find they are stable for you, I used to run a 23064 (one of last 23xxx builds with start menu at top) EnergyROM and it was awesome. Also with the build numbers, a general rule is 21xxx is 6.5, 23xxx is 6.5.1 and 28xxx is 6.5.3. But there is a better post you may want to search for regarding this, goes into more detail if you are interested.
Good luck in your quest

Hi to everyone and merry cristmas (to whoever believes in them )!!
I am about to flash a new 6.5 rom but I can't decide which. Can you suggest me one? I don't really mind if it has touchflo imported or not. I just want a nice and stable 6.5 rom. Which one is your favourite?
Christians rom for the last few days and it seems very stable (compared to the standard 6.1 r3a)
Its based on wm 6.5.3 which has the finger friendly drop down task menu and the windows button moved to the bottom.
Means I hardly use the stylus now and I havent had to install lots of third party apps to achieve it!
Heres the link ... Christian's Rom's
(I'm using the full WWE version)
Another one I tried was and earlier build of 6.5 and also seemed very stable, but I only used it for a few days before upgrading again
Windows Mobile 6.5.0 PURE upgrade
(Both of these roms have been done specifically for the xperia)
Hope this is of some help ... there's a lot of choice out there

Thanks man! I agree, too many choices out there, especially for someone like me with not enough time to try them all.
i've tried almost all roms out there. From the 6.5.1 and 6.5.3 versions I'll choose Agent's valkyrie rom. but the bottom taskbar is over some applications. if you want full compatibility you should try a clean WM 6.5 rom. I like UNOFF series , infinity or 1.5.
Merry Christmas!

mmm not sure this belongs here but since the thread already exists I may as well use it too.
First of all, let me just state that I have never flashed a rom before therefore I m a complete newbie. However, recently, I do feel like I m not making the most of my phone so I think I m ready for an update.
I would like to have a 6.5 rom that also has the new (current) touch hd panel (with landscape mode). Furthermore, I would quite like to have some of the X2 stuff (panel manager, new media panel). I would prefer a light 6.5 version that works reliably rather than a lot of fancy software.
Can somebody recommend me a rom? Moreover, what is the current status of these roms. Does everything work or do they tend to crash a lot or have bugs? I m quite happy with my x1 the way it works at the moment and it hasnt crashed in months and I rather keep it this way.
Looking forward to your replies guys

First of all is very simple to flash a rom. I recommend you using the PC method. Keep in mind that flashing your phone will erase all your data, so is adviceable to back-up your data (search for PIM back-up). First of all you will have to hard-spl your phone (one for all ROMs you will flash), and then flash you custom ROM.
The HTC Leo doesn't support landscape yet(not official). There is a guy in ROM section of xperia that says that he have an official landscape ROM for LEO. So you must wait a couple of days for it to be released (I assume that it will be buggy for a first release, so if you will wait 1-2 months the rom should have just a few bugs).
For the X2 stuff is better to wait for the phone to be officialy launched, because all the stuff that is uploaded now isn't fully working.
Hope this helps!
Cheers!
The build number of ROMs kept as 23569 for 2 months, any reason for that?
I am looking forward to new builds with better memory behavior (Memory leak free)
The 23569 is the build number of windows mobile itself..
23xxx means windows 6.5.x
21xxx means windows 6.5
well, windows 7 has build number 7600 since first release untill now. why? because MS thinks they dont need a fix that requires a total recompile.
I agree with ^. but yea, we might not see many further builds in WinMo because Android is taking over the world. Im looking to get the *Aria* im kinda not wanting to tho. but I look at the builds in inverse, the older the build, the more stable, just in my opinion, I always have problems with WinMo 6.5.x, but 21xxx builds always work fine for me
have you guys even forget?
Windows Phone 7 is Microsoft's main priority at this moment and Fall is just around the corner, after the LG Fathom was released, MS decides to finish up working on WP7
23123 ?
And what's build 23123 about?
Is that one newer or another MS project or something?
I'm running Deepshining:

It's a build with start menu on bottom and newer than 23569?
Thanks

Build 23123 is Windows Mobile 6.5.x (6.5.5 or 6.5.3) as well as the Deep Shining ROM u have now (Build 23569)
Build 23123 may be older, yet if a chef builds a new ROM based on the 23123 build, it would make that ROM newer, not the base build number.
When the build number starts with 21xxx the start button will be on the top left of the home screen. Where builds that start with 23xxx the start button will be much bigger and at bottom left.
The 21xxx builds r moreso what we have been used to with the stock ROMs and they r more stable being there was little integration of sizes between pages. (If u read on in the threads, youll see the dialer was a big hassle to finally get the size right and NOT have a scroll bar on the right in the first 23xxx builds.)
I personally use the 23xxx builds, such as Im downloading Energy ROM Build 23673. With these newer, less stable, yet more finger friendly ROMs I hardly ever have to pull out the stylus anymore. Now dont be put off by the words "less stable". If u dont use the device as much as me (its glued to my hand installing and trying new software, customizing with new icons or sliders or clocks or themes or 3rd party programs, if its not connected to my computer, lol) then u may not run into the bugs that most of us who climb into our devices do. Such as one ROM I was recently using would shut the messaging client down everytime I opened to send or read my messages (email and text messaging). Yet that was the only bug I found with said ROM.
So as u can see when Chefs find a good, stable build; they like to improve on them. Ill tell you now I have tried the Energy build 23673 a few days ago, yet Ima flash junkie, so Im always trying something new. The 23673 build is quite fast and very reliable.
As long as we have chefs, the builds will never stop!!
