I was just wondering if there was any way to make a dock to replace the normal rosie phone menu and add buttons. I have been using dxtop which is my favorite because of the 5 button dock and didnt know if anyone else had thought of this.
Im sure someone else would use something like this. I know I could just use dxtop but then I cant use the rosie widgets right?

No DXtop won't let you use Rosie widgets. Someone asked about this with Launcher.apk before.
First of all it would require a complete re-write of the app, witch is possible with the launcher, but we don't have the source code to Rosie. Not saying it's impossible, but it's going to take even more work than the regular launcher.
How would you launch the app tray if there's no bar at the bottom?
The bar isn't nearly as tall as and icon and the text beneath it. This means it's going to have to push all the other icons up (which would be hard to code) and wouldn't look very good as they would no longer be equally spaced out.
Just .02, I wouldn't count on it ever happening tbh.
Ya I know you cant use it like that I was just thinking it could have a dock instead of the buttons and to bring up the menu you could drag the dock up or long press menu sorta like dxtop. Why do you say that you dont think it will ever happen? I dont know anything about coding but if they could replace the tray in launcher how hard would it be to do something like this in rosie? Would I be better off just using dxtop on hero and looking for widgets that I like?

You misunderstood my post. They haven't replaced the tray in the regular launcher, I was just saying that someone asked me about that.
The reason it would be easier to do this in the regular launcher is because we have the source code for it, we can modify it as we wish and recompile it. We don't have the source code to Rosie, so we can't do jack with it. Sorry, but it's pretty much impossible.
Oh ok I get you now. Do you think there its possible that they will ever release the sdk for rosie?

No, never. Sense UI was created by HTC, it's the selling point of the Hero, if they release the source code other manufacturers could ship with Sense UI. So they would loose the unique selling point and potentially a lot of business. It might be leaked some day (it's no secret that HTC's got more holes than a freakin' sieve), but by then there will probably be something more jaw-dropping than Sense UI
Ya, that makes sense I guess I will just stick with dxtop for my dock then. I really dont use many widgets anyway the only reason I want to use hero is for the flash browser and because I like the dialer and a few other things better.

I'm sure most people are having the same thoughts and issues as I'am with Bettercut and aHome. They like Bettercut but want to use aHome with it and cant at the momement.
I know for me its I want to support aHome but than the money I paid for Bettercut is wasted. If the aHome devs could either 1) Include a feature like Bettercut to simply change the icon. Or 2) Make Bettercut work with aHome. Open Home dev(s) could either 1) Make a dock bar like aHome/iPhone (the slide out dock is crap imo, its a hit or miss for me to drag it out...it looks ugly) Or 2) Make Bettercut work with aHome. I'm sure if one or more of those things would happen sales could increase for each dev.
Maybes its me, I dunno. Whichever one gets it first is gonna get money for sure.
So the question is: Does anybody know if they are working it out, is it even possible for the two to coexist on android? Any future devs maps for each app?
im pretty upset about this too, just seconds ago i bought bettercut and i have ahome, which is way cleaner, more functional, overall better UI than any other home app. but to my damn surprise bettercut doesnt work with ahome. This is lame. refund?
If we cant have better cut / ahome combo, then maybe someone can make an app that does what bettercut can do for ahome? Why does it have to be the same program. Better yet, make ahome change icons as well as names and be able to keep them after restarting the phone. Could be sweet. Oh and the digital clock is now god awful in ahome. Where's white black and gray colors? And the semi transparency. Sorry, a bit off topic. But it had to be said.

i want this too lol someone make one please?
Has this been resolved?
The dev of openhome is the same as bettercut... I doubt he would support the competition.
has anyone tried the app any cut? it has similar if not the same functions as bettercut

you can't change icons with any cut. better cut was based off of anycut and then he made it so it won't work with aHome because aHome and open home for the first two major home replacements.
it sucks, but i don't think that this will ever be changed
I love the AOSP build, but I'd like to change some of it...
Is it possible to get the sense keyboard on it (I HATE the vanilla one)?
And how do I remove the background on the lockscreen?
thanks for any help!

I believe to do much of this you need to modify the source. For the Sense keyboard you need the HTC frameworks which essentially makes the system an HTC Sense system anyway. I know back in the day Cyanogen released an HTC_IME.apk that would work standalone but I never got it to work on AOSP.
For the lockscreen, I believe this is part of the AOSP source as well but someone will need to confirm that for me.

I figured that much. I just don't know what .apk's to push. I flashed the signed IME from that new thread about stock Rosie, but it did nothing
I figure the lockscreen is just an image somewhere that I need to edit. I know the 2.1 build has a clear vanilla lock.
What don't you like about the keyboard? I think its just as good as the HTC one. Once you get the dictionary working properly that is. I posted up a thread just the other day on predictive text. Flips sent a link where you can get an updated IME file. Check it out. If you're still not happy, check out better keyboard apk from the market.

the layout is WAY off. and, the lack of a 'keyboard close' button, i cannot stand. plus, with the HTC one, i don't have to hit a button to get to my punctuation...
i've flashed the IME and that helped (i'm glad he had all the curse words. lol) but i'm still against the general layout...
i'm in love with the AOSP because its so minimal on the system memory that it makes my phone quick as lightning. i just want a clear lock screen and the Rosie keyboard...
does anyone know of an app/modification (metamorph?) that will allow us to "dock" some apps so that they are accessible in every screen?
not like a widget that pops up a carousel (like some apps offer)...
i mean more like the "star" of favourite apps/docked apps that is accessible on every screen in open home..for those of you who have used it
it's to the far right on every home screen, you swipe the star and you have like 6 apps (or so) accessible....
any ideas? thanks!
Anderwebs ADW launcher sounds like something you are looking for:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645550
HelixLauncher also does this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645683
I would have to say that Anderwebs launcher is quite superior to helix in performance, but they are both great launchers.
Thanks for the quick replies!
Helixlauncher almost looks like a home replacement from the descriptions...
I do want to keep my regular home app..since it has 9 screens
I just wanted to add the two main things I liked from alternate home apps
I.e., the app dock...and if I can find it, a way to "name" each home screens, on the bottom, next to the app drawer icon...
I'll test out the first option to see if it has an app dock without modifying my app drawer icon, hehe

Helix can have 9 screens too.
Hehe..thanks...but I guess I'll just stick to keeping my most used apps on the main screen and if I am on screen 9 and need to get to screen 5, I'll just hit the "home" button again, hehe
But I do have another modding question...I am kind of highjacking my own thread, hehe
is there a way to add the "dots" that indicate which screen you are on to either side of the app drawer icon? (Like screen 5 would have 4 little dots on each side?)
...or failing that, a way to label each screen? (Apps, games, etc...)
I saw one app that did this...but it had horrible reviews...so any app or personal way to modify it would be great...thanks again!
Definitely try out the ADW launcher... it has more customizer than even you would know what to do with!
http://www.jbthemes.com/anderweb/adwlauncher.html
it does look/sound good...
however, if you have to install it the same way you flash a rom, i don't think i can do it as my bootloader is locked...(telus milestone)
any instructions on the actual "flashing" part? the only ones i see is to change the zip file to "update.zip" and apply it from recovery mode, but it says invalid signature when i do that and then does nothing...
or can i just install the launch.apk file in the zip?
LauncherPro is faster than ADW.
It's just that you can't set your own app dock, there's one provided for you, it's shortcuts to Phone, Contacts, Messaging and the Browser.
Helix can have 9 screens too.

i don't want to modify any of the actual settings i already have..i like the way my phone is customized...
therefore, i'd like ADW if you can really pick and choose nearly every item you can implement...this would be best
also, as a sidenote, does anyone know how to flash it to the milestone?

if you're looking for some serious customization, look for sweeter home on the internet. it's in beta (for like 1 1/2 years now) so it's not on the market but i had fun fooling around w/it. it's basically a home replacement app that you design yourself from the ground up. kinda steep learning curve at first but you can always download someone else's theme and keep it or even tweek it how you like. there's even forums too if you need help.
http://www.sweeterhome.com/
maybe i'm way off target, just thought it would interest you
thanks, i'll check it out...
but i wasn't originally looking for a home replacement..i had open home before (and this one might be better) and I just didn't like the "bulk" of having an extra home app
thanks again though, i'll still give it a shot, hehe

ADWLauncher has tons of extra features, and they're all toggle-able. If you don't like the dock, turn it off in settings. Want more screens? Settings. Want the Galaxy S drawer? Settings. Want the home screens to scroll faster? Settings.
hehe
i know
but the problem is i can't find a way to flash it on the milestone...
i'm looking for a tutorial or someone that has successfully flashed anything to the milestone =-\

You can now download adw.launcher from the market for an easy install
I may be way off-base here but my wife is using "Open home" on her Cliq (because she couldn't stand MotoBlur's ugly UI) and it has everything that you're looking for: Number of screens, workspace labels, dock, dots, etc) and it seems like it's running OK on her phone. I know that it's a "replacement" home but it shouldn't be a problem on the phone with some spare RAM (i.e. any phone except for G1 and original MT3G)
Good luck.
Hey boys and girls I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to get transparency on HTC sense, specifically on the bottom navigation bar.
I've been searching around but the only things I could find were non-htc sense home screen managers alternatives.
That's pretty much the only thing that annoys me about sense (the huge Phone and useless "+" button) but I love the 7 screens and the widgets so I wouldn't replace it with an alternative.
Thanks in advance!
To change the "+" button check out the marvelous jpool's thread here-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809356
And to make Rosie transparent you'll have to crack open htc resources framework and edit the images inside, if you want post up your framework and ill edit it for you.

If you are on VillainROM12 there are a few themes here
However, I do recall seeing a mod which allows 5 sections on the bar, but I can't remember where it was, I'll have a look and get back to you

5 sections? On the Rosie Nav Bar? Now that would be interesting. If you find the mod let me know
how to make go launcher icons bigger in the dock?
thanks.
You cant, at least not yet.
If you have an example of something, or know what go-theme does do something your looking for, post the name of it- ill let ya know whats up
Yup...got the same issue...the icons are pretty small...I guess by their size, they must have been meant to be used on Android phones...
Cheers,
Giz

Hmm, I have go launcher 2.69 and I can't seem to find the option. Do you know where the option is located in the menus? I might have tried it by accident going through all the settings, but I never saw a change in my icons on the desktop or dock.
Thanks for your time.

It makes all icons bigger, menu>preferences>visual settings>icons>icon size
Edit: the 2.70 beta has the option to change just the dock icon size
Re: how to make go launcher icons bigger
I was able to find the menu setting. However, when I change the icon size to "large" Go Launcher changes it right back to "custom". Any ideas?
Go Launcher Dock Icons
I have sent numerous emails to their developement team requesting this option...and never hear back from them. If you have only 4 icons, the auto adjust makes them the same size, but not with 5 icons. There has to be a way to go in on a rooted phone and tweek their code, or something. I tried ADW since they have this option, and gave it an honest try...had it for a month or so, and just could not resist going back to Go Launcher. For me, this is the only improvement I would want at this point. I think it's a great customization tool, as well as stable. If anyone has any suggestions...please let me know.
