please, so is my HTC magic rooted or still unrooted? i want it to be rooted so that i can install "bluex" which is an application for bluetooth tethering. please help me seniors!
Type in adb root
If it returns that adb is already running in root, then you're rooted.
Clinton
or try to install any programme which requires root. Try Tether WiFi. Or Tether Bluetooth.

OR... Since I see what you're trying to do, you could go a little more out of your way and install cyanogen 4.0.4 stable version, which already has WiFi tether.
I found that Bluex doesn't really work great with Cyanogen mod though, like, with my stock ROM (rooted of course) I could set-up a PAN between my computer and the phone. Once you activate the server in Bluex, the bluetooth PAN service appears on the device services when it's connected to the computer.
With Cyanogen mod, this won't work, but you will have a built in wireless tether which works great. You start it, and then your computer sees the new wireless network to connect to. The downside is, the network is unsecured, but on the other hand you have the control (on your phone) which devices you will let connect.
Hope this helps!
S.
EDIT: Just realized you are looking for bluetooth tethering, but again, not sure how that will work with Cyanogen mod.. I couldn't make it happen, so I turned to wireless...

Have you read the notes for tetherbot? I didn't see that on the Market, so can't verify, but every other tether-related app requires root access.
Its not on the market its an outside app on all the guides I have read they do not say u have to root
Hi,
first sorry for my bad english I'm german...
Today I became a new G1 without any contract.
When I turn it the Phone ON, it want me to Log In with my Google Acc via UMTS/GPRS, but I haven't any such roaming connection, only W-Lan/WiFi..
Now I want to know if their is a chance to avoid that with a W-Lan connection or a pc with internet connection or or or...
Later I think i would anyway root the phone and put an other fw/rom on the phone (cyanogen,mlign,....)...
But I would test the normal System first for comparing...
And I haven't an microSD adapter, yet, so i can't root or is their a possibility???
I hope someone can help me, because i want to use this lovely G1!
THANKS for Help!!!
ScorqYoN
PS: I already have set up a ADB, but it doesn't make sense because I have to downgrade or???
Has the downgrade any influence on the original rom, for example an older original rom or something???

first root your g1 so you can downgrade it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
a card reader helps so you can place the proper files on your sdcard since you can't get passed the login screen yet on your phone.
then use the instructions here to get passed the login screen:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=452316
good luck!
Don't you have an option to skip the setup process? It may be apart of the custom Rom i'm using though. If you go ahead and root it and you flash on the Cyanogen Rom you should have the option of skipping the logging in.
Yes, so for passing login screen with WiFi,
I have to downgrade anyway or, because I have to use ADB and the hidden console to activate or???
Other Question:
What Android Ver. uses the official T-Mobile G1 Release on retail phones???
Is the Cyanogen and other Roms in all ways better???
Because then I think i would instantly root and flash an other Rom...
But for that I need also a microSD Adapter to SD, so I have still to wait.
Or is their any possibility without microSD Cardreader???
ok so my phone is rooted and i was wondering is there any wifi tether app that works with droid eris? ive tried a number and im pretty sure my phones rooted correctly, its 2.1 with test keys and ive done everything

if not, you can download the one that most people say works: http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wireless_tether_1_70-pre2_htc.apk
ahh neither work. the 2nd one says root privelages are needed... did i root wrong?? or am i just missing somthing so simple.

I was FINALLY able to get wifi tether working with:
Eris_Official 0.8T2 by ivanmmj (upgraded from .7 didn't factory wipe, did dalvik wipe)
wireless_tether_2_0-pre10.apk
Sprint radio 2.42.00.03.10 released on 4-4-10 -- make sure to *228 after flashing
help..?
is the third step mandatory..? (the radio flash)
I wouldn't flash your radio .....its not necessary
Whats up there. I have found that the first link that gohamstergo posted works for my Eris. You may want to check your root. Also if you do root properly you should get the use of your track ball back. I'm using the wireless app right now to send this email. Good luck. I am currently running Kaosfroyo V39 on my Eris. Love it.
FUNK!!
ok i can install all fo the tether apks (obviously not all at once) and they all seem to work fine and my computer recognizes the phones network and the phone shows that its sending data to the computer when talking to it to connect but then says unidentified network no internet access. so they talk to each other but the phone isnt passing on its connection. any idea how i can fix this?

In Windows under Device Manager does it list in the Network section a RDNIS driver when the phone is plugged in and tethered? Or is the RDNIS driver listed as no driver installed? If no driver is installed, download the latest drivers from HTC at http://developer.htc.com/. It's the very last file at the very bottom.
You'll have to right-click the uninstalled RDNIS device in Device Manager and choose to update driver, then direct it to look for it where you extract the zip from the above link.
This is all assuming that you're talking about wired tethering.
Edit: Sorry, I forgot this is a WIFI tethering thread. Don't know, then. What ROM are you running?
does anyone have any idea why i keep coming up with unidentified network? any help is greatly appreciated.
I SEARCHED FOR HOURS AND NO ONE COULD FIX THIS FOR ME. WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED SOME LITTLE KID WOULD NAIL IT.

Not sure if anyone ever addressed this but if you are still running the stock kernel none of the wifi tethering apps will work. All of them require (to the best of my knowledge) iptables support in the kernel. Before trying to re-root I would try to flash a kernel supporting iptables (such as Conaps CFS kernel).
If you are having trouble with your scroll bar, I remember seeing somewhere in the forums a recovery that supported the hard input keys........
Hi Friends,
Can anyone help me with TUN.ko file for specific DROID ERIS as per the specifications below. I am looking to run CISCO VPN on my droid eris and would require Tun.ko file for the same.

More Details if any required: Android 2.1 firmware version

I have a rooted Droid Eris running CM7, and a Rooted Transformer running Prime 1.4
I had the same problem initially, of not being able to tether correctly because by default, Android does not support connecting to ad-hoc network.
I used adb to push a modified wpa_supplicant file to the transformer, which does allow it to see and connect to my Eris. BTW, I am using "Wireless Tether for Root" 2.07 on my Eris to create the ad-hoc network.
I have noticed one bug: You must disconnect the transformer from the Eris FIRST. Something really weird happens if you disable the tethering first.. it says its disabled but the Transformer will remain connected to it, and tethering gets stuck on and kills the Eris battery even though the Eris itself will report that Tethering is stopped.
Hi guys, new to the forums and general HTC rooting/flashing so bare with me.
I've rooted and flashed my HTC G1 successfully before but I decided I wanted to move over to Cyanogens ROM so I wiped my G1 and started over.
I started following this guide http ://theunlockr. com/2010/04/26/how-to-root-the-htc-g1dream/
and all was going well until I rebooted and realised I had to register the phone again, so I went through the process of enabling the WiFi since I don't have a Data Plan.
I got to the stage where I'm trying to bypass the login screen by using the adb shell etc.
But I can't seem to get the HTC device to connect, I'm unsure if the drivers installed properly, but I've plugged my G1 into my computer before and it's worked fine.
I can still boot into Camera + Power / Home + Power fine, so I don't think it's a real brick. But I can't get around the registration issue. Sorry if this was a wall of text, I'd be thankful for any help or guidance.
Cheers.
Bump, I'm in urgent need of help with this guys.
Haha try this: http://phandroid.com/2010/07/12/bypass-the-android-setup-tutorial/
It's a new article and I can comfirm that it works on 2.2, but I am not sure if it works on RC29. If it doesn't work, you need to either borrow somebody's simcard who has a data plan or reinstall adb.
Hi guys! Congrats for doing such good work!
I have a HTC Dream (T-mobile G1) which was locked at T mobile. I purchased a code online
and I unlocked it to all networks. The phone had the 1.6 Android version but I don't remember
the radio version. I downgraded it to RC29 in order to root it and install some newer version like
FROYO. The thing is the following, before I did all this I FORGOT TO TICK THE USB DEBUGGING
And now it turns on and I am on welcome screen (Tap the android for registering....)(when I have a sim card)
or no sim card and that is it (when it has no sim in it).
The problem is that I cannot install any update.zip or do any recovery etc...But I am thinking that I probably
do not have root access yet in order to do any of these. The problem now is that I stuck and I don't know what else
to do. Is there any way I can turn it all back the way it was? Or try something else?
Plus when I connect the phone to the pc it doesn't show up like a G1, it shows up as an Android device
which leads adb not to see it under devices! I tried all ways out there to make my pc recognize it as G1, but nothing.
Could anyone help? Thanking you in advance, and sorry for the long message!
Don't worry it happens to many, even if you had adb ticked it would be off by default when you downgraded. Just follow this guide, the section where it says bypass Google sign in with WiFi
