well first, try the latest version and see if it works for you: http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wireless_tether_2_0-pre10.apk
if not, you can download the one that most people say works: http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wireless_tether_1_70-pre2_htc.apk
ahh neither work. the 2nd one says root privelages are needed... did i root wrong?? or am i just missing somthing so simple.

I was FINALLY able to get wifi tether working with:
Eris_Official 0.8T2 by ivanmmj (upgraded from .7 didn't factory wipe, did dalvik wipe)
wireless_tether_2_0-pre10.apk
Sprint radio 2.42.00.03.10 released on 4-4-10 -- make sure to *228 after flashing
help..?
is the third step mandatory..? (the radio flash)
I wouldn't flash your radio .....its not necessary
Whats up there. I have found that the first link that gohamstergo posted works for my Eris. You may want to check your root. Also if you do root properly you should get the use of your track ball back. I'm using the wireless app right now to send this email. Good luck. I am currently running Kaosfroyo V39 on my Eris. Love it.
FUNK!!
ok i can install all fo the tether apks (obviously not all at once) and they all seem to work fine and my computer recognizes the phones network and the phone shows that its sending data to the computer when talking to it to connect but then says unidentified network no internet access. so they talk to each other but the phone isnt passing on its connection. any idea how i can fix this?

In Windows under Device Manager does it list in the Network section a RDNIS driver when the phone is plugged in and tethered? Or is the RDNIS driver listed as no driver installed? If no driver is installed, download the latest drivers from HTC at http://developer.htc.com/. It's the very last file at the very bottom.
You'll have to right-click the uninstalled RDNIS device in Device Manager and choose to update driver, then direct it to look for it where you extract the zip from the above link.
This is all assuming that you're talking about wired tethering.
Edit: Sorry, I forgot this is a WIFI tethering thread. Don't know, then. What ROM are you running?
does anyone have any idea why i keep coming up with unidentified network? any help is greatly appreciated.

Not sure if anyone ever addressed this but if you are still running the stock kernel none of the wifi tethering apps will work. All of them require (to the best of my knowledge) iptables support in the kernel. Before trying to re-root I would try to flash a kernel supporting iptables (such as Conaps CFS kernel).
If you are having trouble with your scroll bar, I remember seeing somewhere in the forums a recovery that supported the hard input keys........
Hi Friends,
Can anyone help me with TUN.ko file for specific DROID ERIS as per the specifications below. I am looking to run CISCO VPN on my droid eris and would require Tun.ko file for the same.
Please help.
When I attempt to insmod tun.ko I get exec format error and dmesg yields

I have a rooted Droid Eris running CM7, and a Rooted Transformer running Prime 1.4
I had the same problem initially, of not being able to tether correctly because by default, Android does not support connecting to ad-hoc network.
I used adb to push a modified wpa_supplicant file to the transformer, which does allow it to see and connect to my Eris. BTW, I am using "Wireless Tether for Root" 2.07 on my Eris to create the ad-hoc network.
I have noticed one bug: You must disconnect the transformer from the Eris FIRST. Something really weird happens if you disable the tethering first.. it says its disabled but the Transformer will remain connected to it, and tethering gets stuck on and kills the Eris battery even though the Eris itself will report that Tethering is stopped.

Type in adb root
If it returns that adb is already running in root, then you're rooted.
Clinton
or try to install any programme which requires root. Try Tether WiFi. Or Tether Bluetooth.

OR... Since I see what you're trying to do, you could go a little more out of your way and install cyanogen 4.0.4 stable version, which already has WiFi tether.
I found that Bluex doesn't really work great with Cyanogen mod though, like, with my stock ROM (rooted of course) I could set-up a PAN between my computer and the phone. Once you activate the server in Bluex, the bluetooth PAN service appears on the device services when it's connected to the computer.
With Cyanogen mod, this won't work, but you will have a built in wireless tether which works great. You start it, and then your computer sees the new wireless network to connect to. The downside is, the network is unsecured, but on the other hand you have the control (on your phone) which devices you will let connect.
Hope this helps!
S.
EDIT: Just realized you are looking for bluetooth tethering, but again, not sure how that will work with Cyanogen mod.. I couldn't make it happen, so I turned to wireless...
So I recently rerooted once I realized that all no root reuired tethering apps block https sites unless you buy the full version. I installed the latest version of cyanogen following the tutorial on the wiki to the T. My phone is fully functional except I can not get the tethering to work. I have uninstalled the remote ndis driver and went through the install wiazrd, directing it to the folder that has the driver and it says something like it hasn't been securely verified or something and I have the option to continue installation or stop and I continue. Then, it says it didn't work and I get a code 10. Troubleshooting did nothing to help me either. Anyone have any idea what I should do? Also, I know there are threads on this but I couldn't find an answer to this issue if there is I'm sorry.

You might have to enable it in the app drawer or in settings somewhere. I ran into a rom once that had the enabler in the app drawer.

I found other threads, but none of the solutions such as unistalling and reinstalling the driver were working. I'm searching for other solutions
couldnt you atleast ask a QUESTION in the QUESTIONs and answers section?
did u try ticking the wired tether box in setting? (not to insult your intelligence, but i got asked about this via the cmupdater support address a while ago... and it turned out that the person hadnt even enabled it)
Moved as not Android Development.
Yes I made sure the little box was checked for usb tethering but I understand the necessity of the question lol.
And sorry stylez (moderator) I assumed since it was about cyanogen roms it would go under development. Looking back, Q & A makes more sense.
This thought just occured. Considering that unistalling and reinstalling the driver didn't work, could it be that I just have an outdated driver for this rom? I unrooted about 2 months ago so the driver might have changed from then. If so, does someone have a link to download the latest version?
Thank you all for your help.
xp, vista or 7?
7 is likely broken somehow
as are xp and vista coz MS made them....but anyway....
are u restarting between uninstalling and reinstalling?
I have xp. And it worked when I first had a cyanogen rom
And I tried restartingbetween uninstall and reinstall with no success
i found this in the vibrant thread and its working again
Thank you! Excellent first post ;-)

Hi Pak. WiFi Tethering works. It just takes a bit longer to initialize in Froyo. Once u connect your WiFi device, u gotta wait for a while - about 1 minute or so.
I searched the vivid forum and couldn't find any resolution.
My wifi says connected but no internet connection. Does anyone have insight on how to resolve this ?
I have experienced that myself just once. Try this, as it helped me whenever it decides to do that. Hold power and choose restart. If that doesn't work, then one of these guys will be able to help you further if needed.

Are you able to ping your device from other devices on the network, and can you use FTP/SMB/UNC to browse or copy files to and from local PC's?
This would show if your having a wifi issue, or a possible DHCP issue in which your phone is being presented with an incorrect IP to use as the gateway.
if that is above your pay grade, I can leave more comprehensive instructions on how to achieve that.

I have my network hidden as well but thought that it was not meant to be seen when you scan for it. I manually type in the name of the network and it connects just fine. Is it a problem with everyone's routers? Never had problems with the connection or signal dropping. Using a belkin n750db with MAC address filtering.

I've had this problem, but it also happened to my laptop, turned out to be my old router, which connected fine but kept dropping it. I now have a new netgear and have no problem with the phone or any other device connecting it, even with wps on.

I think wifi issue has something to do with dhcp and android 2.3.x ... Here is why
Aria connected fine with 2.1 stock.
Flashed aria with CM7 nightly (2.3.7) and wifi wouldn't recognize dhcp. I had to configure static ip to get wireless. At the same time my wife's aria on stock 2.1 non rooted device connects just fine with dhcp
vivid - stock 2.3.4 behaves strange. sometimes connects to wifi but no internet and other times simply shows status "searching". Even static ip doesn't work.
I have Microsoft (Yes - Microsoft ) router MN-700. Still works fine with other 10+ devices including wii , linux , windows machines. My SSID is not hidden and using WEP 128-bit.
Appreciate any help on how to flush DHCP cache. I already tried
rm /data/misc/dhcp/dhcp_list (Galaxy Tab fix http://steve-shaffer.com/2011/02/samsung-galaxy-tab-wifi/ and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839367)

Is your Vivid S-ON or S-OFF? This is displayed in the HBoot screen.
If you are S-ON then you have to flash the kernel separate from the ROM. This can be accomplished thru several different ways. The one I think is the easiest is as follows - You can find the boot.img file within the ROM zip you downloaded and installed on your phone. Extract this file from the Zip and save to the same place you have the adb.exe file from when you rooted the phone. Launch a command prompt on your PC and change directories within the cmd window to where you have the adb and boot.img file. Connect your phone to your PC using the USB Cable and power off the phone. Once the phone is completely turned off, hold the volume down and press the power button. This should bring you to the bootloader screen. Using the volume down, select fastboot and press the power button to select fastboot. You should then see on the screen Fastboot USB. Back on the PC type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" without the quotes. This should send the boot.img to your phone and flash the kernel onto your phone. Once this completes, reboot your phone and your wifi should be working. If this seems difficult you can search for a program someone on here made called I think Flashimage GUI.
If you are S-OFF you may need to go back to the thread for the ROM and check if this is an issue with the kernel or with the ROM itself.
Are you running a stock ICS?
I had that problem too after doing the superguide. I had to hard reset and start over again (installing apps one by one) and my WiFi connection has been rock solid.

I have had this problem for almost a year now. Only 1 time at a hotspot in a restaurant did my wifi connect and actually work It always gets and ip, dns server info, but it never can ping or connect to any other device. I had almost written it off when i decided to have a sitdown with my HTC Raider and my SMC SMCD3GN and try every possible combination of settings i could think of. Brute force style.
I turned enctyption off and tested every Wireless Mode setting. B only, G only, N only, and all the mixed. I did the mixed modes first and tested the connection and found that they all connected and got an ip address, but were not able to ping anything on my network. The connection speed was always 5Mb. After that i started trying the B only, G only, N only settings.
The N only setting connected at 65MB/s and i could now ping devices on my network.
I changed the mode to mixed b/g/n (it was the default setting) and eventialy retried them all. Now I can connect and ping other deviced where i could not in the past, albiet at 5Mb/s. . It seems to be the Wireless Mode selection that knocked something loose and got all the modes to work again. Going to try a few hotspots and see how it performs. ill update after.
Any insight as to how this got my broken and fixed would be much appreciated.
Encryption setting seem to have little effect on the connection speed / function
Hope this helps someone
