[Q] I9000DXJPA Performance - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just flashed I9000DXJPA, the first check is AP (Tethering). It really disappointed that it is not functioned. It is so easy using AP to tether other device in Android 2.1 (I try DXJF4, DXJG4, XWJM8, XWJM9)
Anyone know how to solve this?

Hi Pak. WiFi Tethering works. It just takes a bit longer to initialize in Froyo. Once u connect your WiFi device, u gotta wait for a while - about 1 minute or so.

well first, try the latest version and see if it works for you: http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wireless_tether_2_0-pre10.apk
if not, you can download the one that most people say works: http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wireless_tether_1_70-pre2_htc.apk
ahh neither work. the 2nd one says root privelages are needed... did i root wrong?? or am i just missing somthing so simple.

I was FINALLY able to get wifi tether working with:
Eris_Official 0.8T2 by ivanmmj (upgraded from .7 didn't factory wipe, did dalvik wipe)
wireless_tether_2_0-pre10.apk
Sprint radio 2.42.00.03.10 released on 4-4-10 -- make sure to *228 after flashing
help..?
is the third step mandatory..? (the radio flash)
I wouldn't flash your radio .....its not necessary
Whats up there. I have found that the first link that gohamstergo posted works for my Eris. You may want to check your root. Also if you do root properly you should get the use of your track ball back. I'm using the wireless app right now to send this email. Good luck. I am currently running Kaosfroyo V39 on my Eris. Love it.
FUNK!!
ok i can install all fo the tether apks (obviously not all at once) and they all seem to work fine and my computer recognizes the phones network and the phone shows that its sending data to the computer when talking to it to connect but then says unidentified network no internet access. so they talk to each other but the phone isnt passing on its connection. any idea how i can fix this?

In Windows under Device Manager does it list in the Network section a RDNIS driver when the phone is plugged in and tethered? Or is the RDNIS driver listed as no driver installed? If no driver is installed, download the latest drivers from HTC at http://developer.htc.com/. It's the very last file at the very bottom.
You'll have to right-click the uninstalled RDNIS device in Device Manager and choose to update driver, then direct it to look for it where you extract the zip from the above link.
This is all assuming that you're talking about wired tethering.
Edit: Sorry, I forgot this is a WIFI tethering thread. Don't know, then. What ROM are you running?
does anyone have any idea why i keep coming up with unidentified network? any help is greatly appreciated.

Not sure if anyone ever addressed this but if you are still running the stock kernel none of the wifi tethering apps will work. All of them require (to the best of my knowledge) iptables support in the kernel. Before trying to re-root I would try to flash a kernel supporting iptables (such as Conaps CFS kernel).
If you are having trouble with your scroll bar, I remember seeing somewhere in the forums a recovery that supported the hard input keys........
Hi Friends,
Can anyone help me with TUN.ko file for specific DROID ERIS as per the specifications below. I am looking to run CISCO VPN on my droid eris and would require Tun.ko file for the same.
Please help.
When I attempt to insmod tun.ko I get exec format error and dmesg yields

I have a rooted Droid Eris running CM7, and a Rooted Transformer running Prime 1.4
I had the same problem initially, of not being able to tether correctly because by default, Android does not support connecting to ad-hoc network.
I used adb to push a modified wpa_supplicant file to the transformer, which does allow it to see and connect to my Eris. BTW, I am using "Wireless Tether for Root" 2.07 on my Eris to create the ad-hoc network.
I have noticed one bug: You must disconnect the transformer from the Eris FIRST. Something really weird happens if you disable the tethering first.. it says its disabled but the Transformer will remain connected to it, and tethering gets stuck on and kills the Eris battery even though the Eris itself will report that Tethering is stopped.

I will not send it back, because it was working before very perfect, it is more or less full installed with all what I need and to send it back (here where I am) let me in the worst case 4 weeks without mobile ..... ;-(

A back up data and factory reset .
B update firmware again via Kies
C was your phone lagfixed or rooted or non standard rom on before upgrade .
D service centre your only choice if you do not want to go down other routes .
jje
A: I did already
B: Kies say im on the newest software (froyo.dxjpe)
C: nothing at all
D: ....... im affraid this is the last way .... its one day by car from me - one way .....
Thank you !!
[QUOTE=olsig;
B: Kies say im on the newest software (froyo.dxjpe)
Then it is the newest software that has been uploaded by the network supplier of your phone /
No reinstall/fix firmware on Kies ???
What i would do is delete any WiFi access points on the phone .
Set router with no security and no password .
Turn wifi on on phone and find router connect .
jje
I got a similar problem. At rebot if I first turn on the bluetooth the wi-fi wont work. If I first turn on the wi-fi, the bluetooth wont work. I am on Simply Honey 3.1.
What the hell do you have against using ODIN? Unless you have a power outage or rip the phone out too quick there won't be an issue. If you want to make it even safer use heimdall.

And lots of people already "bricked" their phone by using Odin/Heimdall, including myself (but had a jig luckily). Not blaming the software, it seems to be caused by the USB connection for most people (and I wasn't aware I should NOT use an USB hub as those stickies did not mention it). With Kies it should somewhat safer, never had any issues with it. And why not use it if it's installed already anyway and if he only wants to upgrade to the latest official firmware.
So in case he is just another-messed-up-my-phone guy after flashing he's stuck without help.
As recommended before, delete the wifi settings and set it up again on the phone, maybe that does the trick.
Also, check if you are able to browse a website by browsing its IP instead of its url. Almost sounds like a DNS problem but could be anything really.
KIES IS SAFER ????
how many times have we seen thread about bricked devices after OFFICIAL updates.
bricks caused by ODIN is down to user error !! not the porgram itself, people with no knowledge cause bricked phone.
There would be no point of an android phone if ODIN wasnt made, no custom ROMs, No 3 button fix, No kernel, No nothing. it would be like having an iPhone.
ODIN is 100% safe if you know what your doing.
'ODIN is 100% safe if you know what your doing'
I have used Odin to flash 3 button fix but tend not to use it because I know I dont really know what Im doing :-D
last but not least the service center somehow.
I have the same reason to leave my fingers away from ODIN or Heimdal .... its maybe easy if you know what you do ... i dont know it .... then its maybe not so easy :-( And if i see here how many story's about bricked mobiles .... its better i dont do it. What i said the next service center is one day by car from here ... :-(
But thanks for all ideas !!!
It makes me only sad to go the official way with KIES and then come in trouble like this .... All was working perfect before. The only change was this KIES update ...
There's one thing that doesn't involve Odin but might help:
- get root priviledges on your phone (read about this if you're not familiar with it's effects on your device)
- download SpoofFW from market (lets your phone lie to Kies that it's still 2.1)
- re-apply update via Kies
Thanks myrddral !
I will check out how too root it and try your idea .... I will post my experiences .... Lets hope the best
Hi myrddral,
I root my mobile now with SuperOneClick - i download the app SpoofFW but it says dont use it if the three button function is not working on your mobile .... its not working with my :-(( im a little bit scared now ..... Do u think its okay to try it ????
Have you ever check back your APNs after that? Cause sometime after flashing the new FW it will mess up a little bit your APNs. Check it with your line provider to make sure they match!
Yes everything is still and always working before and after the last update. except the wifi not more :-(
Gm, isn't flashing your phone through odin, heimdall or whatever could be dangerous only if you are flashing the bootloader? If you have the normal 3-button recovery, I mean.
I dont have the three button recovery .... but it seems a "living" mystery ....i just try my wifi again, OPERA and Market say still no connection or network error but i receive e-mails by wifi .... ?!?!?!?! I send my self a mail in google mail by laptop it arrive on the mobile and i answer it on the mobile and i can see it in the laptop too ..... ?!?!?!

[Q] Galaxy Note Wifi VERY unstable after replacing wpa_suppliant. Hope some1 can help

I wanted to connect my galaxy note to my iPad's Mywi for wifi (ad hoc) connection.
Thus i did the following steps:
- root galaxy note using zergrush
- downloaded xda's replacement wpa_suppliant
- downloaded root explorer
- uploaded the replacement wpa_suppliant file to the phone and replaced the original one at /systems/bin
After this, my phone was able to connect to iPad's Mywi, BUT connection is VERY unstable and gets disconnected every 5-10mins. Also it takes really long to get it connected back, like about 10-15mins for it to try to get connected.
I've tried re-doing the WHOLE of the steps above, INCLUDING re-rooting my phone, but to no avail. My Wifi function was working perfectly fine prior to this.
Can some kind souls out there please advice me if I've done anything wrong in my steps? Or if there's any way to solve this? thanks!
stock rom using very well.
I forgot to include, I've also flash stock rom, but to no avail. hope some kind souls can help me out

[Q] I think its Bricked..and odin doesnt work

hey guys i have a captivate that i tried flashing and was successful then i tried again and the screen went black. im not sure if my battery died during the process or what but idk what to do. I cant get into recovery mode, i can only get into downloading mode but none of the odin's ive downloaded have recognized my device today. they worked fine yesterday. then i tried "hemidall one click" to try and get it back to stock but no luck. also when i try to power on I get the "Cornkernel" loading screen since that was the kernel i had loaded when it was working, but it fills the bar then shuts off. so it seems like im going to be at the mercy of a computer program since i am unable to access anything on the phone, right? I recently upgraded to gingerbread before all of the flashing of the new roms. all i want is to get back to either froyo or gingerbread, i dont really care, heck ill even take 2.1 at this point. if anyone knows whats going on and can help me thatd be great.
Thanks
Remember to use a rear usb hub for destop and run as admin. Heimdall will mess up your odin drivers.
You may also want to check out the captivate connection issues thread.
Also, to clarify further on prbassplayer's point about Heimdall, it will write its drivers over the drivers assigned to the USB port you are plugged into when it detects your phone. So if you have 4 USB ports and you use port 3 for Heimdall, it would look like this:
1 - Odin port
2 - Odin port
3 - Heimdall port
4 - Odin port
All this means is that you'll need to be aware of the port you used with Heimdall, or just reinstall the odin drivers (they'll overwrite the Heimdall setup).
OK so i tried what you mentioned in that thread on the connection issue and unfortunately it didn't work. is there a way i could start fresh? like delete all the drivers from my computer and then try it again, or do u not think that would work? im open to any ideas/suggestions right now because i hate having an extra paperweight and the thought of buying a new phone.
Don't know if this'll help or even why it worked for me but, when I had problems with odin recognizing my phone, I reinstalled/repaired samsung kies and odin would work for at least one flash.
Note: used full odin (not oneclick)
Good luck
hey guys thanks a bunch i finally got it to work. i had to use a different computer like you said. What a great feeling to have a functional phone again..
Thanks Again!!
So i got the phone back up and running android 2.1 and I would like to get it back to the stock 2.3 I had before the whole mess of rooting and stuff. but when i try to upgrade with kies or straight on the phone it ends up failing and telling me to try it again. any ideas why this is happening? or how to fix it.

Kies sucks lol
look at my sig the first "go to" has the One Click Odin file to get you to stock and rooted 2.3 ...should take no more then 5 mins to do it
the link on that page for the 1 click odin doesnt work.
Try looking >>HERE<<. There are more one clicks there than you will ever need (hopefully)
Thanks I think I might try one of those. But considering what happened earlier in the week i want to clarify/ask a few ?s about that page. How do I know which Gingerbread to use of the 3 listed? How do I know whether or not to click the one with or without the bootloader? I'm new at this with android but I used to flash roms on my old windows mobile htc TILT.

if you have never flashed GB bootloaders, you need to. Just oonce will work from that time forward. After you flash bootloaders, it's best to avoid them. A bad bootloader flash is one of the few things that will turn a Captivate into a paperwight. About which GB to use, I would say KK4. Its the same as the Official KK4 that was released. So to recap, flash bootloaders only once, then use no bootloader packages after that.
Im not sure if I unlocked them or not honestly. I know i had the phone rooted at one point and was running Cerberus rom. is there any way for me to check?
If you don't know, flash them.
ok i apologize in advance if this is a stupid obvious question..i got the odin one click and i was looking at the page u referred to me to and im wondering what the kernel is for? you cant place it in the odin one click obviously so is that just to keep things together or do i actually need it?
The kernel links are just to use if you want to root the stock rom. You have to use full Odin for those. Stick with the one click until you feel more comfortable in flashing AND do a lot research before your next flash.
so i got the KK1 gingerbread working and everything seems to work fine but now my data doesnt work. So I cant get ATT 3g or edge or anything the only internet i recieve is wifi. anyone know why this is? or how to fix it. ive tried a reboot and nothing ive tried changing the settings under network settings.

AHD drops wifi on stock and custom ROMs

I have an AHD and I have had this problem for a while. When on stock or custom ROMs, the phone will suddenly drop the wifi connection. Sometimes, it will re-connect right away, other times, it takes a bit. Once it re-connects, it will either stay connected for a few minutes and drop again or it will connect and immediately drop it. It didn't bother me too much but it seems to be getting worse.
I'm running the latest Bell radio (mb886_bp_100740.071.65.61p).
Anyone else have this issue?
Edit: does the same thing with the latest retail Mexico radio too.

I'm not sure how much diggin you did or what you've read on this issue, but after about a half hour i found a thread that may help you. It seems to have helped others with this same issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469104&page=3
Then.... not sure if this will help your situation, but it's woth a shot. Wifi-fix.zip or something, I've used it before for a similar issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2178123
Thanks for the links. The solutions offered don't help. I have WiFi, it just drops randomly at times.
I'll be putting the ahd away and switch to using my backup Samsung phone.
I have used the above fix for intermittent WiFi connectivity problems just like yours.

Hello I am having the exactly same problem can you tell me how you solved this issue ?
Sent from my ATRIX HD using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Download the stock ATT 4.1.1 ROM and extract the file named NON-HLOS.BIN using 7zip.
1) install the adb/fastboot files to a single directory on my computer;
2) place the NON-HLOS.bin file in the adb/fastboot directory from step 1;
3) open a command prompt window as an administrator;
4) install the Motorola USB drivers and connect my booted phone with USB debugging enabled;
5) from the command line, type "adb reboot bootloader" and press the enter key to get my phone into AP Fastboot Flash mode;
6) from the command line, type "fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin" and press enter; and
7) reboot the phone and check to made sure my baseband now says "QUINARA_BP_100740.081.65.05".
I have to say that it helped but the problem did reappear. I then decided to flash a complete stock ATT 4.1.1 ROM again, I ran the OTA update which updated the modem again, and wifi has been fine since the OTA update.

Not anymore. I gave up my ahd after Motorola ceased system upgrades for the phone. I was quite happy with it for a very long time. The roms were also quite good.
