Does anyone having wifi issues with Vivid ? - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

I searched the vivid forum and couldn't find any resolution.
My wifi says connected but no internet connection. Does anyone have insight on how to resolve this ?

I have experienced that myself just once. Try this, as it helped me whenever it decides to do that. Hold power and choose restart. If that doesn't work, then one of these guys will be able to help you further if needed.

Thanks for the response. I already tried that. no help

Are you able to ping your device from other devices on the network, and can you use FTP/SMB/UNC to browse or copy files to and from local PC's?
This would show if your having a wifi issue, or a possible DHCP issue in which your phone is being presented with an incorrect IP to use as the gateway.
if that is above your pay grade, I can leave more comprehensive instructions on how to achieve that.

I know that both of my Vivids could not / cannot see a hidden network. Unhide the network and no problem connecting, hide the network and it immediately drops. All of my other workstations have no problem with this, so I think it's something to do with the drivers. I tried it on a couple of baked roms here with the same results.

I have my network hidden as well but thought that it was not meant to be seen when you scan for it. I manually type in the name of the network and it connects just fine. Is it a problem with everyone's routers? Never had problems with the connection or signal dropping. Using a belkin n750db with MAC address filtering.

I've had this problem, but it also happened to my laptop, turned out to be my old router, which connected fine but kept dropping it. I now have a new netgear and have no problem with the phone or any other device connecting it, even with wps on.

Running DD-WRT on my Netgear 3700 with hidden network and have zero problem after i manually configured SSID on the Raider.
So i don't think its the device, maybe we have different drivers since i'm Bell and it seems your AT&T?

I think wifi issue has something to do with dhcp and android 2.3.x ... Here is why
Aria connected fine with 2.1 stock.
Flashed aria with CM7 nightly (2.3.7) and wifi wouldn't recognize dhcp. I had to configure static ip to get wireless. At the same time my wife's aria on stock 2.1 non rooted device connects just fine with dhcp
vivid - stock 2.3.4 behaves strange. sometimes connects to wifi but no internet and other times simply shows status "searching". Even static ip doesn't work.
I have Microsoft (Yes - Microsoft ) router MN-700. Still works fine with other 10+ devices including wii , linux , windows machines. My SSID is not hidden and using WEP 128-bit.
Appreciate any help on how to flush DHCP cache. I already tried
rm /data/misc/dhcp/dhcp_list (Galaxy Tab fix http://steve-shaffer.com/2011/02/samsung-galaxy-tab-wifi/ and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839367)

Okay so im completely new the whole rooting thing. I used the superguide-ics-root for my htc vivid and it worked beautifully. But ever since the root my wifi doesn't work. I go into settings and try and turn it on and it just says turning on wifi but never does anything. Sometimes it will eventually change from saying turning on to error. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Is your Vivid S-ON or S-OFF? This is displayed in the HBoot screen.
If you are S-ON then you have to flash the kernel separate from the ROM. This can be accomplished thru several different ways. The one I think is the easiest is as follows - You can find the boot.img file within the ROM zip you downloaded and installed on your phone. Extract this file from the Zip and save to the same place you have the adb.exe file from when you rooted the phone. Launch a command prompt on your PC and change directories within the cmd window to where you have the adb and boot.img file. Connect your phone to your PC using the USB Cable and power off the phone. Once the phone is completely turned off, hold the volume down and press the power button. This should bring you to the bootloader screen. Using the volume down, select fastboot and press the power button to select fastboot. You should then see on the screen Fastboot USB. Back on the PC type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" without the quotes. This should send the boot.img to your phone and flash the kernel onto your phone. Once this completes, reboot your phone and your wifi should be working. If this seems difficult you can search for a program someone on here made called I think Flashimage GUI.
If you are S-OFF you may need to go back to the thread for the ROM and check if this is an issue with the kernel or with the ROM itself.

Are you running a stock ICS?
I had that problem too after doing the superguide. I had to hard reset and start over again (installing apps one by one) and my WiFi connection has been rock solid.

Any suggestions in that department? Thanks again! Have a great day!

Yeah, hit up the Vivid Android Development section on this forum.. there's plenty there to choose from. I'm running Virtuous Inquisition 4.0.2.1, and I love it.. pure to AOSP, cleanest so far anyway.

I have had this problem for almost a year now. Only 1 time at a hotspot in a restaurant did my wifi connect and actually work It always gets and ip, dns server info, but it never can ping or connect to any other device. I had almost written it off when i decided to have a sitdown with my HTC Raider and my SMC SMCD3GN and try every possible combination of settings i could think of. Brute force style.
I turned enctyption off and tested every Wireless Mode setting. B only, G only, N only, and all the mixed. I did the mixed modes first and tested the connection and found that they all connected and got an ip address, but were not able to ping anything on my network. The connection speed was always 5Mb. After that i started trying the B only, G only, N only settings.
The N only setting connected at 65MB/s and i could now ping devices on my network.
I changed the mode to mixed b/g/n (it was the default setting) and eventialy retried them all. Now I can connect and ping other deviced where i could not in the past, albiet at 5Mb/s. . It seems to be the Wireless Mode selection that knocked something loose and got all the modes to work again. Going to try a few hotspots and see how it performs. ill update after.
Any insight as to how this got my broken and fixed would be much appreciated.
Encryption setting seem to have little effect on the connection speed / function
Hope this helps someone

bricked HD

So, lets start at the begining.
Today I was testing the new android build from 20nov.
Everything went fine until restarting my phone into windows. The phone did boot properly, exept the screen stayed off.
Touch input did work.
After a couple of restarts everything was back to normal and i picked up the testing from the android build again.
However, a later on the same problem arised. This time more persistent.
Also the led wouldn't go on anymore when charging the phone...
After 30 tries of rebooting a decided to hard-reset the phone by holding Vol down+up and power. Then waiting a while (because i couldn't see what was happening) and then pressed vol up to hard reset.
Then waited like 5 minutes and then tried to boot again by holding the power button.... Nothing
Then waited another 5 minutes, pulled out the battery and tried another boot.
No succes either.
Bottom-line now.
The phone is dead, won't react to anything, no charging no booting.
What can I do???
No stock rom, so i guess no warranty???
Really hope someone can help!!!
Ouch , you're right about the no guarantee rule but i don't know what u could do ..
Best of luck pal.
Maybe anyone got any experience with garanty+ a flashed rom.
Who brought therte phone back with a flashed rom without telling HTC and got their warranty?
Would be great if that worked (a)
Can you do anything with phone? Try taking battery out for 24hrs before re-inserting it and attempting to reboot. If you can still do nothing with device you may have bricked it and only thing which can be done is to return it, though warranty void. Have you tried asking within Android thread to see if anyone else has had similar issues?

Thanks for the battery tip, i'll try that!
about an hour ago i did get a little response from my phone. It vibrated after pushing the on button!
And then nothing....
This only happens when the phone is not connected to usb(charger or pc, no difference).
I did post my problem in the android thread, however no response.
I'll also PM phhusson about my problem. Would be nasty if more people would brick their phone.
Still like to hear some experiences with the garanty-service of HTC if anyone has got any
if it is so "dead" nobody can say if the ROM was original or not. let them think is a hardware problem and replace yr device!!

Well that is probably what i'm gonna do/try if I can't reanimate is myself
Just hope there really is no way of telling by HTC themselves...
Maybe try to see if you can flash a ROM image on it again from the SD card - doing it blind, there are only a few keys to press to reflash, maybe the screen is not working but the device powers up occasionally ?

Try to flash a new cooked rom. Remove battery, then wait 30 secs, then put back battery and push volume down and power button simultaneously. Then you can flash a new rom.
It worked for me.
(sorry for my "english")
intresting
so, tried to flash via RUU.exe+connecting to my pc.
What I did:
-Vol down+power button
-connect phone to my pc via usb.
-run RUU.exe with a dutty rom
-then RUU says it couldn't find my phone.
However, my pc (windows 7) does!
But not how it is supossed to do it.
Check out the screen to see what i mean.
Maybe something more can be doen now? Anyone knows what is going on here?

Maybe you just need to change drivers??? Becouse sometimes Vista change it by itself, so I think 7 can work in the same way?!
Try it, as far as can see from your screen there are no drivers installed
""Manufacturer: Unknown
Device Status: The driver for this device are not installed.""
Go to - Windows Mobile Device Center, then select - Mobile Device Settings, Connection Settings, then uncheck - Allow USB Connections.
Normally this would be ticked to allow syncs etc but to flash a rom it needs to be unchecked.
I cant tell from your post if you have done this or not.
Hope it helps.

I dont have W7 but would imagine it will be similar.
I don't really think it's compulsory to uncheck this. I have it checked and flash my roms without any problems.
But Blackstone is not a friend of Seven at first. You have to tell him to recognise the other.
I have installed the windows-mobile device center from microsoft website and then Windows 7 recognized my HD otherwise I got the same problem as you (no driver).
Hope it can help !

You may be right but mine will not work with the check mark still on.

It does look like a driver issue. Follow this thread to get the necessary usb drivers.
Do you have the Hspl? If yes can't you try flashing from the sd card? (The connection issue you showed is when you are in active sync mode, isn't it?)
Have you tried to flash an original ROM? It should work regardless of your USB connection settings and if you manage to do that and still no life in your hd - you can return it with warranty. And one more suggestion - find a XP machine to do this. Btw - flashing through the SD card is a very, VERY good idea.
succesfull flash, no result.
First of all, a huge thanks to you guys!
The idea's and help u came up with really made my day.
Second, I got to flash my phone. With the right drivers installed everything worked like it supposed to work.
However, the same problems still persist....
So I think this problem is deeper then rom orientated (ideas?)
Anyhow, now I'm able to flash a original rom to my phone, which should help my warranty!
Great job guys, kudos to you

I'm a bit confused... you managed to flash rom? So your sync works? (on the other side you say your screen is dead?)

I wouldn't flash your radio .....its not necessary
Whats up there. I have found that the first link that gohamstergo posted works for my Eris. You may want to check your root. Also if you do root properly you should get the use of your track ball back. I'm using the wireless app right now to send this email. Good luck. I am currently running Kaosfroyo V39 on my Eris. Love it.

In Windows under Device Manager does it list in the Network section a RDNIS driver when the phone is plugged in and tethered? Or is the RDNIS driver listed as no driver installed? If no driver is installed, download the latest drivers from HTC at http://developer.htc.com/. It's the very last file at the very bottom.
You'll have to right-click the uninstalled RDNIS device in Device Manager and choose to update driver, then direct it to look for it where you extract the zip from the above link.
This is all assuming that you're talking about wired tethering.
Edit: Sorry, I forgot this is a WIFI tethering thread. Don't know, then. What ROM are you running?
does anyone have any idea why i keep coming up with unidentified network? any help is greatly appreciated.

Not sure if anyone ever addressed this but if you are still running the stock kernel none of the wifi tethering apps will work. All of them require (to the best of my knowledge) iptables support in the kernel. Before trying to re-root I would try to flash a kernel supporting iptables (such as Conaps CFS kernel).
If you are having trouble with your scroll bar, I remember seeing somewhere in the forums a recovery that supported the hard input keys........

I have a rooted Droid Eris running CM7, and a Rooted Transformer running Prime 1.4
I had the same problem initially, of not being able to tether correctly because by default, Android does not support connecting to ad-hoc network.
I used adb to push a modified wpa_supplicant file to the transformer, which does allow it to see and connect to my Eris. BTW, I am using "Wireless Tether for Root" 2.07 on my Eris to create the ad-hoc network.
I have noticed one bug: You must disconnect the transformer from the Eris FIRST. Something really weird happens if you disable the tethering first.. it says its disabled but the Transformer will remain connected to it, and tethering gets stuck on and kills the Eris battery even though the Eris itself will report that Tethering is stopped.

Wifi doesn't enable anymore

Hi all,
I'm running custom roms for almost 1,5 years on this phone and never had any problem.
But since a few weeks, i cannot turn my wifi on anymore.
I usually use 3G, but once I need to download some larger files (updates for example) I sometimes enable wifi. As I don't use wifi that much, I can't really then when this problem started.
When I try to enable wifi (swiping off -> on) it goes to on but the button stays "grey". Once I exit the settings menu, and reopen it again, it shows "off" again for wifi.
Turning it on via another menu doesn't make any difference too.
I already updated my roms, but still no luck. Tried difference modems as well, but no luck.
Bluetooth works the way it should, so it's only related to wifi.
I already tried renaming the "/data/misc/wifi/wpa_suppliant.conf" file, but after a reboot the system doesn't even recreate that file.
Also took the battery out for some time, but that didn't any effect at all.
Anyone that has some ideas what could this problem?
Thanks!

Go back to a stock rom and check. Wifi is kernel dependent.

AHD drops wifi on stock and custom ROMs

I have an AHD and I have had this problem for a while. When on stock or custom ROMs, the phone will suddenly drop the wifi connection. Sometimes, it will re-connect right away, other times, it takes a bit. Once it re-connects, it will either stay connected for a few minutes and drop again or it will connect and immediately drop it. It didn't bother me too much but it seems to be getting worse.
I'm running the latest Bell radio (mb886_bp_100740.071.65.61p).
Anyone else have this issue?
Edit: does the same thing with the latest retail Mexico radio too.

I'm not sure how much diggin you did or what you've read on this issue, but after about a half hour i found a thread that may help you. It seems to have helped others with this same issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469104&page=3
Then.... not sure if this will help your situation, but it's woth a shot. Wifi-fix.zip or something, I've used it before for a similar issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2178123
Thanks for the links. The solutions offered don't help. I have WiFi, it just drops randomly at times.
I'll be putting the ahd away and switch to using my backup Samsung phone.
I have used the above fix for intermittent WiFi connectivity problems just like yours.

I just loaded the att radio from stock 4.1.1 ROM for testing. I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks again for your help.
Edit: The AT&T modem seems to have really helped. I surfed continuously for 40 minutes and it never dropped the wifi signal

Hello I am having the exactly same problem can you tell me how you solved this issue ?
Sent from my ATRIX HD using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Download the stock ATT 4.1.1 ROM and extract the file named NON-HLOS.BIN using 7zip.
1) install the adb/fastboot files to a single directory on my computer;
2) place the NON-HLOS.bin file in the adb/fastboot directory from step 1;
3) open a command prompt window as an administrator;
4) install the Motorola USB drivers and connect my booted phone with USB debugging enabled;
5) from the command line, type "adb reboot bootloader" and press the enter key to get my phone into AP Fastboot Flash mode;
6) from the command line, type "fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin" and press enter; and
7) reboot the phone and check to made sure my baseband now says "QUINARA_BP_100740.081.65.05".
I have to say that it helped but the problem did reappear. I then decided to flash a complete stock ATT 4.1.1 ROM again, I ran the OTA update which updated the modem again, and wifi has been fine since the OTA update.

Not anymore. I gave up my ahd after Motorola ceased system upgrades for the phone. I was quite happy with it for a very long time. The roms were also quite good.

[Q] Need a cm10 rom for htc desire c

Hello all
I was searching a cm10 rom for my htc desire c and found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265060
now my question is it: does mobile data work in this ROM?
I need a rom that work both wi-fi and mobile data.
I'm grateful to you for introducing me to something.
thanks a lot.
As far as the reviews go for this rom, mobile data works and WiFi is fixed in #build3 of Rom mentioned in the above link...
Sent from my HTC Explorer using xda premium
why the file has problem?
the file doesn't extract. boot.img is in the rom's file.
i am currently using this rom
hi i am currently using this ROM BUILD#3: ( WiFi Fixed ) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265060
this is almost perfect cm10 rom for desire C .
the only thing thats not working is FM radio as this is not there with any CM10 also i tried stock FM apk thisd party FM apps none of them works.
Now comming to WiFi - it works properly atleast for me .it connects normaly and also runs well .
the only problem that i face with wifi is that somtimes when i try to connect to my wifi it says authentication Err. so i tried with turning of the wifi password so after turning OFF password requirement for my home wifi it just connects instantly and not even single time i faced any problem with wifi password off. later i searched on the net for Android Wifi Authentication failed Err and came to know that this is a common problem with Android software mostly for JellyBean. so i obviously searched for its solutions and tried most of them which sometimes worked and somtimes did not worked and i did not want to keep my WiFi connectoin without password as it is not safe.
so i came up with my own simple solution which works every time form me on this ROM by cute prince. what i do is i when i want to connect to my home WiFi(with password ON) i enter the password and i get connected ,,then after using it for many hours or minutes if i dont want to use the wifi i simply do not TurnOFF the wifi of my phone ,,instead before disconecting i do is "forget the network" option this after that i turnOFF the wifi of my phone and afterwards when i want to reconnect to my wifi i turnON the wifi of my phone and select my wifi network then it asks for password,,(bcoz previously b4 truning off wifi i did forget the network option)..so i enter the password for y wifi and then i get connected instantly so this i how i got my problem solved but its safe simple ,needs no other third party app or or anything just simply reconnect and enter the password every time i want to connect.(NOTE-Authentication fault has got nothing to do with e rom made by cuteprince its a common problem with jellybean so pls dont do mistake of associating this problem with ROM do some research and youll come to know that thousands of people face this problem,,so if there was a problem with the rom then the wifi woulnoteven turnONN in the phone)
this ROM is just almost perfect and let me tell you its 100 times better than stock rom in terms of perfomance ,battery life improved massively ,,etc
every thing mentioned on the thread by cuteprince is true for the things that wworks.
so yes i do recomend this rom to try it if you want to.
Soon ill be sharing the Video that i made while installing this rom on my desire C which can help you .
---------- Post added at 01:21 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:36 AM ----------
hi here is the link to the video that i recorded while installing rom as i mentioned earlier
recording quality i not very good as its recorded with a vga cam of gioneel800 but that was the only camera tht i had at that time so u have to bare the quality and also its very shaky video as i was doing both the things recording and installing .
also there will be some balckout that means i m either connecting to pc usb or something else.
if i get time later ill upload a better version of this vid for now i just changed the orientation of video and added my name in caption.
pls do not upload this vid anywhere else .
this vid is just for refrence i should not be held responsible for anything wrong you do during your installation .
one more thing i had already unlocked my bootloader ,,rooted the phone and also installed clockwordmod so these parts are not shown in the video .
the video only shows installation of rom and gapps and firstboot after installation of CM10.
hope it helps

You don't have to extract anything. Just download N.O.P.E. or Prometheus kernel and flash that, then flash the ROM.

It means i don't need to flash the noot.img file in the rom?
I just need to flash the n.o.p.e kernel?
Which is first? Install rom or flash kernel?
I mixed up.

no. you don't need to flash the kernel in this ROM zip file. Flash the N.O.P.E or Prometheus kernel first, then wipe cache and dalvik cache and then flash the ROM.
Oh no.
I completely do all works and levels but after reboot Rom Not applicable and it stay on htc mark.
what should i do?
i never flashed any kernel with this rom
fyi i never flashed any kernel i have stock kernel i did not use nopr or prometheiuis i just have stock nernel
all i did was
1- Full Wipe means format /system, /data, /cache
2-flash ROM
3-flash gapps
4-fash boot.img ,,flash it using "fastboot flash boot boot.img" command from pc
..i dont remember whether i used boot.img from the cm10 rar file but the file which i used is this https://www.mediafire.com/?d4s699whdj9cq3i
one thing i suggest you to do i do make a video of the entire installation process and share it here so that by seeing that vid other experienced users can help you.
i hope have seen the video that i shared and did somewhat similiary to that bcoz the process that i followed i the same process which cuteprince has written there and let me tell you this htc desire C i my first ever android phone and the first ever android phone i rooted and the first ever android phone on which i myself without help of any one personaly helping i manged to install CM10 on my phone. note i did a lot of reasearch before trying it out you have to know the concepts not just reading 2-3 lines but get deep into it then only you will unserstand why v are doing what in a particular step (i dont know how experienced your so im suggesting it),,i spent entire day reading about it and then only i tried it out and i was lucky to find right files and right guide and i followed it and then i was succesful.

Are you sure you flash the N.O.P.E. v2.6 kernel or Prometheus kernel for cm10 and not sense? If you have flashed the cm10 one, then try flashing the lowest frequency kernel. Possibly the 767 MHz one.

thanks.
I test it with 750 MHz and it's correctly worked.
but it's low frequency.
how others use higher frequncy?

The processor of each phone is different. Some processors can be overclocked ore than others. Yours probably can't handle very high frequency.
hi today i came to know about a major bug or dont know what to say to it
hi today i came to know abt a major bug or a fault or a forgetton thnig or dont know what to call it.
its related to charging of mobile under switch off condition.
its like this --if i keep my desire c OFF and then connect it to my charger> the normal default stock charger adapter or whatever you call it .
so when my phone is OFF and i wnat to charge it in OFF condition
1-i turn off my phone ok:good:
2-conect it to the charger:good:
3-i power on the charger by pressing the switch for the wall outlet and suddenly im taken into the recovery mode that i the CLOCKWORK mode im like what??:cyclops:
4-then i check it again the same process and all the time im taken into recovery mode when i connect my charger to phone in switch off condition. and its not just with one charger at same socket but i tried with 3chargers that i have and at all the sockets in my house .
so i dont know how to solve this and as far as i remember i haVe not enabled any such setting as i never saw any setting like that.
so i exactly dont know if its a bug that s causing it or what?
Flash minicm10. That ROM doesn't have this problem.

Dear Friend ... I Think if you switch into the Stuck / Android Rev , You would enjoy them more ... Because CM ROMs Don't have a good interface and also the are some kind of experimental and you can't expect them that make every thing work because they aren't suitable for the Device ... also I Recommend you not to OC because it makes your CPU survive less also more OC means shorter CPU life ... So if it works properly Just I Don't recommend you to OC it ... Good Luck
With Best Wishes
