I just rooted and install the Cyanogen 4.0.3.1 and wondering where to go from here... I'm a noob at this and am just following tutorials and learning more here at XDA forums. I got today a 4GB class 4 SD card for apps2SD, and going to try to get it working by folowing some tutorials on here. What do I need to update to the Rosie/hero UI?
2.22.19.26I radio, 1.33.2005 SPL (Haykuro's), PVT board (check in bootloader, power and camera) time to read up on procedure, a card reader.... think that is about it? also the rom you want to flash needs to be on your sdcard because the new spl will wipe your phone.
Make sure that you flash the radio first before the spl or you have a high chance of bricking your phone<a brick is when you cannot get into recovery or the bootloader, before you ask, if you can get into either one than you are not bricked>
Im still a bit confused on what to do. I know where to get the radio and the SPL, but what is PVT? and where could I get that and also dont know where to get the ROM for the Rosie/hero UI
to check if you have pvt, turn off the device then hold down power and camera button. It will say on top pvt 32B
why do you want to do something that could brick your phone when do not even know where to get a hero rom...

check out this... about a month ago i was right where you were... i didnt come to the forums though... i was dumb enough to just search and hope for the best. i will give kudos for asking for help, but please use the search feature... if not in these forums in google... when i searched back when this is the thread i got... it was a huge help... told me everything i needed to know

right i know how i bricked my G1
did spl before radio .. so the outcome is basiclly it hangs on the screen thing
i passed the phone down to my little brother so hes been using it for some time i ain been on the g1 scene for quite some time until yesterday he started ranting on bout me upgrading his system to the Hero ports
my main question was is there a way to recover this problem
or am i going to have to go tru my friends at t-mobile

Shaji... 1st off how is your little brother using a "bricked" phone? If it is bricked it can't be used let alone have the ROM updated to the Hero ROM's. Also there are several threads over in the " Dream android development " that should provide you with PLENTY of information that you seek... good luck with T-Mobile...

...tell T-Mobile you got an OTA update and phone never booted past the first screen after. You're phone is bricked ,get a new one.

I did the same thing the night Haykuro came out with all his new stuff for that. I flashed SPL before radio, but I was able to fix it. I'll pull up the email I worked out with him, PM me for it.
Disconnect usb, take out the battery and plug it back it, connect usb, boot the phone into the recovery mode, go to the console.
Enter then type this: echo /dev/block/mmcblk0 > /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file
You now can access to ur sdcard from your computer, download a rom, change it to "update". Reboot the phone again, now try to wipe and install the update. After you install the update, flash the radio first, then the SPL. Let me know how it works out for you.

@shaji007 Your post is quite confusing, can you tell us what you did in order? Can the phone get in to recovery (power+home) or the bootloader (power+camera)?

i followed the guide how to downgrade root n hack etc
did all that
then upgraded to one of JF builds
then i was going to install the hero ports that have been flying around
however this is my fault i wasnt really concentrating and i upgraded the spl before the radio
so yea its bricked on there
i just thought xda might have a way of fixing it back up
getting it replaced with t-mobile is of course no problem but i dont want to go through the hassle

Right, yeah, you're screwed. Just tell tmo that the update bricked it, but don't say bricked, just act dumb
I wouldn't hold out much hope for lukekirstein's unbrick method that no one has over heard about before...

I trying to flash to the HERO Rom to be able to use the nice clock and flash and any other cool feature that comes w/it. but i have look and there is more then 10 type of Hero's rom and so many thing like somethinga bout the memory card. and so many thing i have no clue what it means. so anyone that can point me to the right direction. Sorry im not knowledge of this i just one to get that for my phone. and again i have look around but the more i read the more i get confuse.
so please can someone can explaint me step by step starting to how to download the files wherer to put it how to get them on the phn and so on... im sorry for being so slow. its that technology is not a good friend of mine. ***

Then maybe this just isnt for you, there are explicit tutorials in the dream general and this section...
There is a guide in the dev section called "want to run hero read this first" something tells me you should start there. Or you can root your phone and flash the hard spl and try the new hero rom that was made to fit into the confines of the hard spl. The best way for you to know what you are doing is to read then read again then read one more time, then when you are done with that if you still don't understand keep reading then if you still can't get it then it just might not be for you.

Ive spent a bit of time over the past 2 days looking through info on upgrading my g1 to hero. I have previously done this on my last phone with no issues.
I thought i accomplished everything last night but when i tried loading the rom i got the error "cant chown/mod /system/xbin/nano" while its trying to copy files.
my issue is also "Ibelieve" that im showing that i have a pvt.. does that mean that i will never be able to put spl 1.33.2005 on my phone at all or am i missing something?
not to be mean or anything but theres a search button..Also you should root first then get the radio then spl updates, and finally the rom itself.

thank you for your insight. this is why i said ive been looking around for 2 days now.
I have loaded cyanogen 4.9.1.9999999 with no issue whatsoever. this is because there is no specified spl for it. in order to use the hero rom, you need haykuros danger spl, which im not sure i can use or not and was asking for a definate answer and some help towards the subject.

You can flash 1.33.2005 on a PVT board
you cannot flash it on a DVT board
Hi everyone really sorry for opening a new thread for a G1 brick.
My G1 has stuck at the T-Mobile screen and on pressing Camera+Power i cant get into fastboot to restore using the .nbh file.
I am not able to get into recovery using power+home key also.
There has to be a way to get my dream back....
please please please help
JTAG or go for a replacement. I'm guessing it's a DangerSPL brick, right?

Sure there is as its one if the few full engineering spls. And I don't think your latest development will ever be quite as user friendly (however some more configuration it will be very close)
The real user friendly fix/patch for 1.33.2005 (those that know what they are doing can decide if any benifit of the spl exists) is an assertion statement in the recovery script to check the radio version is not one of the two common 1.x ones.
(the evil patch is to make the assertion somehow also autoinstall the lattest Rogers e911 patched rom if the user has the 1.x radio. Because atm the rogers rom appears to be very safe from the user messing up the boot chain.. actually we may need to "perfect" the spl a bit more I think it will let us erase hboot)
I am still a newb to the android scene - and do believe I as well made the same mistake - and have bricked my G1.
If eveything I've read is accurate, I can purchase a donor phone - broken screen, or other issues - so long as the mother board is still good.
Swap out the new mother board for the bricked one, and have a working phone again - right ?
Have an opportunity on a donor phone - have no issues pulling phones apart, and putting them back together
But just want to make sure I understand the basics

There is no tool to get it back except by the options listed above. If you are not going to switch the mobos in the G1 then you won't be able to do the other option either. There is no software that can bring your G1 back after a deathspl.

only thing,
mine bricke in cause of a radio update,
i tried all which was in my head,
and all i can do
but after some nights spending to my phone i found this:
i copied my nand backup to root of sd,
and connected it to pc
first he told me, device not known
so i tried to boot the modified recovery,
and *tada* i was in recovery mode,
plz try and tell me if it fix your problem,
for mine it did

Mine is also due to radio update dude, before flashing spl the radio has to be flashed i and forgot to do that.
Will try out your suggestion, just hoping that it work and my g1 is back to life.
Ne ways appreciate your suggestion.
Please let me know if you were able to get into recovery mode prior to putting the files on the sd card.
And if you could tell me the list of files (if u had nething other then the nand update) which you put on the sd card, i can replicate the exact process.

Is there any hope to get the G1 back to life from the Death SPL Brick ?
You should read instructions carefully man. Its not that hard. You should always verify that you have a compatible radio before flashing DangerSPL.
There is a method to recover your device and it involves a lot of time and patience. Google "JTAG".

I was cleaning up my room today and I came across my fave but bricked g1 ( it was bricked due to installing a radio before the rom or rom before the radio i cannot remember the exact order) however i love this phone and I was wondering after all this time I bought this phone in 2009 i think if there was a fix for this yet?

G1 hanged at white screen!
Hi all,
I really need a help here. I have a G1 rooted with CM rom ver5. it was working fine since 3 months but suddenly now the phone doesnt boots up, it goes to white screen with 3 droid skaters and highlight on Hboot. It is freezed then and nothing can be done. I removed battery and tried booting by home + power ; camera+power etc etc . nothing happens it goes to that screen only. i have amons recovery and also nand backups in sd card. but the system doesnt let me go any where!! Please help......
before flashing radio, spl, rom...anything...u need to check out the warnings and compatibility-MUST!!!!
there are 32B and 32A devices...both have different stuffs for themselves....which can be bricked if u dont follow the guidelines and try to act in sort of a haste to accomplish something new!!!
for those who can get to the camera+power (hboot) screen, but cant do anything else...u need to format ur sdcard...FAT32...then download dreaimg.nbh file...keep it in the root of ur sdcard...
then boot into the hboot menu, and ur phone should read the dreaimg.nbh file and prompt u to take an action(flash it)....do that and it'll get ur phone to the stock rom thingy....
then later u gotta root ur device again(telnet, great)....then install amon ra's recovery...change radio and what not and play again....
u gotta be patient...that's the only thing!!!
