Hey man,the name's Andy.I'm new here on XDA and stumbled across this thread just surfing and looking for the MyFaves App as well for my G1. I am running the SuperHero V2 and am also looking for the myFaves app. I know a lot of people don't like it but it's just a quick way to access your favorite 5 people. Anyways...Do you understand any of this jibber jabber at all? I've read the thread and don't understand how to install the app onto my G1. When I flashed the Hero ROM to my G1 I lost the MyFaves App and am just trying to get it back. I've read many many threads on this topic but am still learning how to add apps. Any help would be greatly appreciated from anybody as to how to install this app onto my G1 with Hero Rom. Thanks in advance everybody! Any answers can be sent directly to [email protected] as I do not check threads that much. I check back every other day while being bored at work. Any Help is GREATLY appreciated!

get ready for some more jibba jabba. Be sure your phone is allowed to install non-market apps. Do this by selecting Options then Applications, then make sure you select the check box next to "Unknown Sources".
Next download the .apk and load it onto your SD card. After thats done go ahead and download Astro file manager from the Marketplace. With me so far? Good. Once you have astro installed launch it and look for the .apk you placed on your sd card. If you did everything properly then you will be able to select the .apk and press Install.
Hope that helps

I'm tracking on what your saying and totally understand but where can I download the myfave.apk file from? Thanks again,it's very much appreciated!
short answer: you cant.
the myfaves app is an odex file, completely different ballgame. basically, nobody has found a way of incorporating it into roms yet and t-mobile never put it on the market like their other apps.
regardless, unless youre using the myfaves app for the interface, its useless anyway. set your myfaves through t-mobile.com and then set up direct call links on your desktop using anycut or bettercut.

Couldn't say it any better. Plus you won't want the myfaves app on your phone because its a memory hog.
MyFaves?
OK,one more question. I've been trying to modify things and trying to figure out how to do this. Does anybody know how to use apps2sd to move the myfaves.apk or the odex file or whatever to the sd card? Basically like moving an app to the sd but with the myfaves app? Anybody understand what I'm saying? Just curious. I'm trying to figure this out so that I can try to port it to a Hero build. I'm kinda at a dead end here.Any help is appreciated.
in windows you have to have "show file extensions" enable in the view tab of Folder Options

I have myFaves already,I'm trying to figure out how to move it to the SD Card like apps2sd would do. When I use apps2sd though it does not move MyFaves to the SD card. I think if I could figure this out and get it to work I MAY(not for sure) would be able to port it to a hero build.IDK. I'm just trying anything to get it ported right now.I'm working hard on this and racking my brain and searching and looking and scouring for answers. Thanks for your input though.
I'd downloaded the "my market" app for a try and uninstalled. But that left me with no market app. Where can I download the original google market app?
im sure you can find in practically any rom on this site
d/l the zip and take a look and you will find the .apk
im not sure if it requires any special way to install it but you can find the apk

If for some reason your Vending.apk has been deleted (which I highly doubt) then pull it from the JF 1.51 and put in your your sdcard. Go to the terminal and type
Code:
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cp /sdcard/Vending.apk /system/app
I can find it on which site? This one? Where?
And if I had a Vending.apk on my sdcard, I wouldn't be asking where I could download it from?
I'm confused by both responses so far.
is your phone rooted?

I just expanded on what Kylez said to explain how you can push back Vending.apk.
Vednding.apk is inside the attached zip, So extract it to your memory card and follow the steps I posted earlier...
Thanks!

What is it that he and all the other mods do to get it working automatically? I've been hunting for about a week now and I have no luck.

Its a script that puts the apps to the EXT and EXT is a linux format.
By other mods you mean swap, compache, etc? Those are also linux things too.

Actually I meant developers, but I guess that helps with my compcache. And do you by any chance know where in the /system directory they're located?

Apps2sd script=Bin
Compache=bin i think...
swap=bin
But you also need to have them enabled in the user.conf file which also goes into you bin folder.
Hello XDA team
First of all, I think that this is the appropiate forum for this question, but if it doesn´t, please feel free to move to the correct thread.
I have a spanish Vodafone HTC Magic (32B) and after several combinations I have found that the most suitable partition system for my SD card is Fat32 + 128 MG of Swap. I really hate a2sd and Ext partitions because my device doesn´t really need them, and it only mess my apps.
I´m searching a way to disable a2sd from the .zip files of ROMs in order to be able to install in my phone, but I´m not sure hot to made it
If I take, for example, MightyMax latest ROM (MghtyMax1.9.1) and extract the contents, I find "a2sd" under /system/bin, so, if I remove this app and zip again the ROM, will I be able to "Skip" this feature? should I edite the user.conf and or userinit.sh files?
Many thanks for your help
Rgds
If its a question it goes to Q&A no matter what type of question it is. Just an FYI ^_^
u can try it. I dont know if it will work or not. Just remove all traces of a2sd and resign the update.zip. The other thing is, u can just not have an ext2 partition. That will disable a2sd from the first boot...

The problem is that ROMs that require a2sd won´t boot (tried MLGIN, MightyMax, Sense Hero..) with my partition layout, they all keeps in the boot screen
thats because u they want ur layout to be like this
fat32,ext2,swap
the only thing u can do is
fat32,ext2,swap
then remove ext2 leaving a gap. After that, expand your fat32 to cover over the ext2.
so ur new layout would be fat32,swap but the swap partition would be on the third partition... (i think )
You could try using the script included in Wes Garner's update here to disable A2SD (should be able to replace the script in the update file of the ROM you are using).
Moved to Q&A

Many thanks Daveid, sound very interesting, I will give it a try later..
I tried re-build the MghtyMax ROM removing the a2sd bin file and adjusting the user.conf and userinit.sh files but after installing the "new" ROM (it installs just fine) the phone keeps forever in the "Vodafone" bootscreen... Any ideas??

Your SD card has three partitions right? And, why remove the a2sd bin file? I would use the modified script I linked you to, make a very small ext2 partition - so you can put your user.conf & userinit.sh files on it, and see what that does.
What is the logcat (or ddms) output during boot up?

Sorry guys but nothing seems to work for me...
-I have tried to disable a2sd editing the user.conf file and re-building the ROM. Nothing happens. The "new" ROMS installs just OK but it keeps forever in the Bootscreen logo
-The script mentioned by daveid in entry #5 neither seems to work for me, same bootloop
Any ideas??
Many thanks in advance, this is a very annoying issue for me
Anyone can help me with this issue?
Many thanks in advance

Please, please, anyone can help me with this request? I tried to install the amazing Kink's Droid Eris port without sucesss, i guess that again due the a2sd issue
Is there any way to remove a2sd or to skip ext2 requirements when installing a rom?
Many thanks in advance
Best regards
Hi
I'm trying to get app2ext working on official Froyo on my MM but every time I create sd-ext directories via root explorer or AOR the directories disappear after reboot.
Do I need to change the chmod of the directories? If yes to what number?
Is there a security system in Froyo that prevents creation of such directories?
I am kinda at a loss here.
thanks in advance for your help.

I was planning to use the script from CM7. Thats why I wanted to create the sd-ext directory. I did try your guide, the one written in *.docx, but it did not work. The modules did not load...however, I did create /system/sd directory which is still there.

Well, I have got it working with all stock froyo roms that I have used. Have you installed busybox? Sometimes it takes more than one reboot to work.
I have tried that.
I used all three zip files mentioned in this thread:
//forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10934421&postcount=37
but they did not work.

You only need to use the full version. Anyway, I don't know abt the sd-ext problem.
