Had a quick search and couldn't see any obvious answer to this...
Aware of the ability to disable Touchflo 3D and have the WM6.1 interface on the frontend, I'm wondering whether the same will work with 6.5. Will TouchFlo 3D2 be compatiable with 6.5?
I understand that 6.5 may negate the need for Touchflo3D itself, but I'd quite like the flexibility to switch back to the interface I partly chose the Diamond2 for.
Thanks!
yes u can switch back and forth
I beleive we will have to see what HTC will do. Maybe an all new interface. Till the phones start shipping with 6.5 u really cant say. In the end though its up to the cooks to add TF3D to a 6.5 coocked Rom. Somebody correct me if im wrong.

HTC must be holding back on something since they provided no config options in the initial Topaz 6.1 TF3D release. Maybe they thought it was a waste of time because people will give up on TF3D once 6.5 is out?
Maybe they wanted to focus on the 6.5 integrated TF3D solution?
I know this has been going around for a while. The whole WinMo 6.1 with Manila 2.5 issue. And I know a lot of people have said it doesn't work. But it does. There have been some concept ROMs made, that use 6.1 with 2.5.
Would it be possible, for one of the more experienced chefs, to try and cook up a ROM that had these two together. While 6.5 is very good now, and it has grown on me a lot, WinMo 6.1 with Manila 2.5, is actually an excellent combination.
I tried outies ROM with this mix, and it was very fast. The only problems, were small bugs that needed someone experienced to fix.
We all know 6.5 is good now. Much better than it was before. But 6.1 is also still excellent. Combined with Manila 2.5, it could be an excellent mix. HTC Sense and 6.1. A great combination. Please think about it chefs. I bet you would be surprised by how many people want to use it.
*sign* i search also a 6.1 with 2.5 manila...
amen to that, I agree completely !
I second this from here to infinity.....but I doubt any chef will take the challenge
Outie's kitchen
Hi,
Outie actually posted the whole kitchen with his ROM, so I am trying to tweak it a bit, something like Mikedomain's ROM. I have got PC2USB popup and Smaberg's action screen working properly, but still struggling with some other issues. If I get it tweaked nicely I will post it and maybe the whole kitchen if people want to play with customising. I won't be able to offer support, however, although I will try. There's a good chance I can't improve it much, because I am completely new to cooking, but it's worth a try.
I won't post anything if I can't make it as good as mikedomain's.
For now I suggest trying his ROM and messing with outie's kitchen if you are brave.

I would only be curious to hear the answer of some serious chef....
Like y ?? .....they waste hours and hours of work on 6.5 roms that will never by any means be as good as 6.1 roms....and for what, a horrible start menu and some kinetic scrolling....if you ask me not worth it...best roms ever are pctech4u, jackx 3.x and touch x by mr.rusch if those had 2.5 on top....that would be....HOT !

i just cooked a wm6.1-rom with manila 2.5 (german) just to get the experience. I can't really understand why you guys want the old wm back...
the experience was horrible compared to all the wm6.5 roms out there. the only thing i really like in wm6.1 is the drop-down-startmenu. but.....
it is possible to modify the wm6.5 startmenu to show up in list-view (not exactly but nearly 6.1 experience).
What's the real reason you like 6.1 more than 6.5?????
I really can't get it.... ugly themes... scrolling in settings/programs without scrollbar-use etc.......
6.5 is the logical evolution of wm6.1... flashing back now from this horrible 6.1 experience to wm6.5......... never again turning back.......
second to that! there is nothing I like in 6.1, sorry ...wont ever look back
the only reason that i want 6.1 (and use it actually with manila 2.1) ist stability. i have tryed a lot of 6.5 roms and all make me crazy. freezes every day (especelly in standby and charging).

Like I said in that thread, I never experience standby freeze in 6.5. 6.1 is more responsive but 6.5 has better memory management IMHO.
Well, whatever the reason, people seem to want a 6.1 ROM with manila 2.5 cooked by someone with enough experience to iron out the kinks, me included. In fact I want it so badly I am trying to cook one myself (making some progress, too).
IMHO, 6.5 is slower, less responsive, and has retarded volume key and close app functionality. Some of the latest builds of 6.5 are closing the gap performance-wise and some features are better, but the app closing and volkey functionality are enough to keep me away.
Each to their own, but if all the cooks are cooking 6.5, people who want 6.1 ROMs are left unsatisfied. On that note, there are some chefs cooking 6.1 ROMs, but they all seem to be using manila 2.1. Touch X is a good example of a 6.1 ROM. Fast, stable, looks nice. And it is very popular..... If only Smaberg would come back and cook us a Leo ROM... (sigh).
Exactly as Oobly said !!
How come you guys can't see a reason why we wish for 6.1 with 2.5 manila guys ..... Seems like responsiveness and stability and SPEED are pretty neglected these days....bfff makes me angry
Hello to you all, it can be done, but the time it takes to modify some files to get it to work as it should ain't worth it. And after using 6.1 with 2.5 after a day makes memory go heywire... therefor 6.5 is better, the original ROM for touch pro 2 is the most stable sys build for the x1 but with 2.5 its somewhat slow, but the leo sys build on x1 works better, but with more bugs, so combination is hard, but i recomend the TP2 sys build, with latest LEO xip.
And back to 6.1, as i wrote it can be done quite easy, but you'll need anyone with experience to edit dll files cause it referes to some files that aint in 6.1, all this info came from a source in HTC, so i can't confirm it myself though.
wish you all the luck on this one, i would be glad to help, but without a X1 it would be to hard.
Smaberg its a pity u can't do this.....could you put a nice word for us with MrRusch ??

What you are describing is 6.5.1 (not 6.5)
HTC volume and close button work the same as 6.1 on 6.5 (just take a look to the official 6.5 rom on Rhodium, or Topaz.
Thanks for your input, Smaberg and Jack!
I know at least HTCScroll_2 isn't compatible with 6.1 and this causes problems in the album and I am sure I will find more. In this case we can use an older version of album, but then you can't save pictures as footprints. It's a long road, but worth a try. I am certainly gaining respect for the experienced chefs!
Maybe official 6.5 is good enough, but I have already started down this road and I believe the performance will be better on 6.1 still. Will have to see.
[EDIT]
ROM seems to be usable now.. some small issues, but nothing huge so far (no hangs / manila restarts, etc.) Maybe I will post what I have done so far this evening or tomorrow if I can get it uploaded somewhere. I need to do some tweaks still....

keep us updated.....ur our hero !!
I just dont get it really guys ...even you can make wm6.1 working with the latest goodies (can't imagine how hard that would be), but in the end where do you guys go from there? wm6.1 is ended, and is no longer developed.
wm6.5 is still under development, but there are choices coming from certain branches that did prove stability and speed (build 21874 is the latest i tested of this kind). And yet it is still developing and sometimes newer build just failed.
wm6.5.1 is new gui with start button at the bottom part of the screen so this is another challenge. Kinetic scrolling is gone for whatever reason, but you can slide left and right at status bar at the top part of the screen.
I'm not a cooker and yet about to dig in some into more depth. Read a lot, pick the rom you want to flash and pm the chef what official rom he started before the work. You can always predict the result by doing the same routines - flash official rom, hard reset, flash custom rom, hard reset and always follow direction given by the chef carefully, and follow what other flasher find and tweaking bugs. This is how we develop i believe.
but still i do appreciate that some ppl still opted wm6.1, it is just the way it is i guess
Phoenix ROM
Hi all,
My 6.1Leo ROM is now up! Get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4956394#post4956394
And please read all of the first 4 posts.
-Oobly
P.S. @deepthroat, I have yet to see a 6.5 ROM that gives the same benchmark scores for graphics as a good WM6.1 ROM. Usually at least 20% less speed. I don't think our X1 devices can handle 6.5 AND manila 2.5 nicely..... yet. Maybe 6.5 will improve to the same point soon.
Why did it suddenly disappear from all the ROMs?
Even Rota's has only photo and music rotation, AFAIK
Landscape on LEO manila 2.5 is not fully implemented by HTC, the cooks are unable to fix that. Only the photo and music tab supports it at the moment.
If you need landscape, there's a CAB for landscape SMS in Leo or go for a manila 2.1.
I'm sorry, but how many times have people been over this? HTC didn't implement landscape mode into Manila 2.5, except for Music and Photos tab. And even then, it ONLY works with phones that have a G-Sensor, so not the X1.

So it's an issue that came with the 2.5? I know I'm looking dumb but I want to fully understand this and I suppose there are others like me that are confused.
It was in 2.1 but not in 2.5? We should wait for HTC to do that?

As for G-Sensor, G-Spot should cover that but there still remain all the other tabs.
In the end, is patience the answer of my problems?
HTC ONLY does Manilla rotation for its keyboarded devices.... so until there is a release of Manilla for a Leo Pro, they'll be no oem rotation in the latest Leo builds of Manilla.
IMO, just another reason to ditch inefficient Manilla for either PointUI, or SPB

It's not an issue. It simply isn't supported. There isn't any need for it yet, as the HTC HD2 (Leo) doesn't have a slide out keyboard. So there is no need for a landscape home screen really. There is landscape support on the music and photo tabs, as some people may like to browse their photos and music that way.
When/if HTC decide to put Manila 2.5 on a Pro device with a keyboard, then we might see landscape mode for the other tabs. As of yet, there is nothing, and there will be nothing until HTC make it so.
It is not a bug, it is not an issue. HTC didn't make it yet, as the HD2 doesn't need it.
the interesting point is that I still can not find a ROM with manila 2.1 which has no bug .... because it's very important for me to be able to rotate the screen in manila ....
energy ROM has some bug with sms botton ... I've got really confused ....

Tell me about getting confused, there are several roms with 2.1 manila that has full support on landscape, if it didnt have, then the cook hsa done a error (unlikely) or its disabled by the cook (rather unlikely too)
But a bugfree rom will only be a reality in your dreams im afraid, cause there is no such thing. Not from us, or HTC nor SE..
I have not tested other chefs roms in here with manila 2.1, but mine sure do have landscape

Which ROM did you try?
I´ve had at least 3 which are stable - and if there is something you might perceive as a bug, it is often related to another application and/or setting I did or had to do myself.
There are quite a few Manila 2.1 based ROM´s today which you can try, with WinMo 6.1 or even 6.5 "underneath".
BTW, the worst ROM I ever had was the stock ROM. Shame on SE.

thanks for your answer ... yes I just found several ROMs with manila 2.1 and there is no problem with rotation ... but for example one of them use a lot of RAM (60%) , one of them has some problem with sms ...
for this reason I overlook manila 2.5 ... and I think energy ROM up to now is the best choice ...

thanks dude ... just could you plz introduce me these 3 ROMs ? right now I install energy ROM (21 Oct version) and I think it is the best ... although it doesn't have delivery choice ...
I know I'm gonna get slammed for even posting this but I'm hoping someone can make a recommendation for me. I've been using rom's from xda-developers for years on various devices and now have a Tilt 2. I guess I'm old fashioned because I prefer the WM5 style today screen (screenshot below) and don't like Sense, Manila, or even the default WM6.5 today screen. I'd love to use the Tilt2 roms but am not seeing any that don't include either of those.
Can somebody please recommend a solid and current rom that uses the WM5 style today screen?
Thanks very much...
Greg
just go into today > items and disable windows default on Titanium or disable toughflo on Manilla builds, you'll be left with the original windows 6.1 today screen which is pretty close to that of WM5.
Then you can install all of those plugin that you had there to make it look identical again.

I can do that but was more looking for a rom that didn't have them there to begin with because they may get loaded even though I'm not showing them on the today screen. That's a lot of overhead if they are loaded. No big deal if I'm wrong, I can certainly disable them that way.
Thanks for the advice...

Are you recommending the Firestorm ROM or one version of it?
You probably can cook your own from the official ROMs. Da_G gives out ROMs without manila, but it does have titanium in it.
I'm by no means an expert, but I would guess that titanium would be more difficult to remove from an OS build, as it comes as part of WinMo. Manila/Sense comes from HTC, so it is probably easier to break off from the base OS. I'm betting that if you disable Titanium as mentioned above, you'll remove whatever overhead there is.
Also, as mentioned above, Da_G's ROM is sans manila... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577594 ... it appears to be made specifically for the Tilt 2, judging by the title of the thread.
Hi All,
I too am looking you for this, I can assure you I've flashed almost every rom out there... Da_G is indeed a clean one but I hate the new builds with the big buttons at the bottom...
@ Agent_47, is the rom you propose has this as well I suppose...
;(
hi guys, I have small question. cuz here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8ZL2-QEFoM&feature=player_embedded
we can see, from 4:09 till 4:27 this white, ugly, windows 95-like icons and background with old looking scroll. I dont want to keep this in my xperia, so I searched for some cool themes and found some, but one person from different forum told me that when I change ROM I will loose this:
http://www.gearcrave.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/sony-ericsson-xperia-x1.jpg
on the left side. I mean those small windows that give me overview to a lot of features in phone. So I ask you - is it possible to keep this built-in usefull and cool looking feature , and change view of these silly icons and white background to sth more modern?
thanks in advance, I appreaciate all helpful answers
bump, I will be more than insanely happy if sb could help me.
Yes, read the X1 ROM forum, almost all custom ROMs have Panel Manager. Look for a 6.5 ROM.
okay man <getting crazy> thank you so much!!
and is it possible to update WM from 6.1 to 6.5? I noticed that X1 sometimes has 6.1 and sometimes 6.5 (dunno what it depends on) and I know that on 6.5 there is more themes and you know.. just want to know

Officially X1 runs WM 6.1.
X2 will have 6.5.
You can have 6.5 only as custom ROM available at XDA.

It's possible to have WinMo 6.5 on your X1.
First, you have to HardSPL your X1.
The link for instructions is here.
Second, you need to find a Custom ROM for your phone. Under the Xperia X1 ROM Development section of the forum, there are threads made by other users that have Custom ROMs they build that run on Windows Mobile 6.5.
When you find a ROM that suits your needs, extract the .nbh file to a FAT32 formatted MicroSD card (probably the best way to flash a custom ROM). Make sure the full name is "Kovsimg.nbh". Also. make sure any information you need off the phone is backed up. A good WinMo backup application is PIM Backup.
After you have backed up all files, and copied Kovsimg.nbh to a formatted FAT32 MicroSD card, turn off the phone, and make sure the battery is atleast 50% full. Hold the volume down rocker while pressing power, and until you see a 4-colour screen show up, don't let go.
If the phone detects the .nbh file, the screen will go grey and ask you to either press power to continue, or the select button to cancel.
Click the power button, give it a minute or two, and congrats.
