getting fed up of the latest version too much bloat and slow.
i just want to use 1 imap account with a custom ssl certificate, so what in peoples opinions was is the best version to use?
ive been using 0.114 (market release) and its been pretty stable for me, i tried out the latest beta and had all kinds of issues
touchdown is the way to go
does touchdown work with imap accounts?
trying version 0.22 atm seems enough for my needs, its less than half the current 1006 version.

What are people's thoughts on Sugarsync and Teradesk?
I've tried both:
Sugarsync has 2GB free while Teradesk only has 1GB free. The Teradesk Android client is "prettier" and more polished but also not as easy and straight forward as Sugarsync. The Teradesk client is also twice the size. I also find the Teradesk web interface more complicated to use.
I haven't tried either of the desktop clients.
Boy I wish there was a Dropbox client for Android!
Thoughts?
They are currently working on one... and i heard that androlib.com has a beta release, but it wont show up in the market on my phone which leads me to believe that its only for users running 2.0 or higher.
Hello,
i am running Froyo on my nexus one.
When configuring a new Exchange support, i get:
""SETUP COULD NOT FINISH.
This server requires security features your phone does not support""
Touchdown is working fine and reports the following securities features:
Allow simple password
Password/PIN required
Failed attempts 10
Min length 5
Min Complex 3
Timeout 1800 sec.
Password recovery
So the question are:
1) Which of this securities is not yet implemented natively in froyo?
2) Will it make it in the final froyo release?
If any of you has some inputs, it would be nice to share.
Thanks in advance!
Best

Sorry I cannot help with your problem other than to say that I have exactly the same issue. I am really shocked that Google have not got this fully working. We are hardly talking about a new protocol here!
Whilst I have Touchdown and have done since moving to Android last year, this single problem has stopped my company giving everyone Android phones. Come on Google, get it sorted!
Maybe because the foryo we got is not final? Ever thought of a unfinisched product that you use, is not finisched?

I think the point is that proper exchange support should really have been there from day one.
You just don't build a serious, high end smart phone with out proper integration to corporate mail (read exchange ).
Unless you're Google apparently.

Well, I work and live in the corporate world and use my phone as such a device. I guess I sort of agree with you there about the exchange support, I can't really legitimize why they didn't incorporate this almost-brainless sync method.
Does the security policy of your works exchange server require to have a screen lock pin, specifically mobile device security policies? I noticed, after wiping from Froyo(with screen lock pin prior to EX acct) to CM and then back to Froyo(no screen lock when configuring), that I received an error that setup could not finish, I assume this is because without having a screen lock policy set up on the phone the exchange server will not authenticate to my device. Check that out. Also, this is not a finalized product.
Mine works fine...and I manage the Exchange system here...no problems.
My biggest issue is that Google has provided half-ass support for Exchange, and this version is no different.
You can't even move an item to another folder from the inbox with the stock Froyo.
The Desire Rom has the functionality and ability, best interface and options compared to the stock Android.
The stock Rom sucks honestly...if it weren't for Desire...I would still have my iPhone, even they figured out, licensed and got working properly the Exchange support 18 months ago. Windows mobile devices have had this for 3-4yrs.
My first post! May as well make it contributory.
It is interested to note that one may need a PIN lock set up first *before* adding an exchange account that requires one... I know I haven't been able to get our 2.2 Nexus One's to connect to our corporate Exchange Server for my girlfriend and I.
Let me go change to a PIN lock and see what happens when I try to add the exchange account...
Yep, no go still. "Unable to open connection to server."
They really need to add a Verbose button to these error messages.
still not working
Hello,
I tried setting up a PIN code before starting up the email application.
Does someone knows where to find the email app log file to see what is not good?
Thanks in advance!

To be honest, I tried using touchdown (which as great as it is, still lacks a lot of features), then tried using the Froyo Email/Calendar apps... Nothing has ever worked smoothly with Exchange + Android. I ended up migrating my email server (luckly it is only a personal email server) to Google Apps, and I have never been so happy with the performance and stability.
It is a tough cookie to swallow, but gmail is much better then Exchange on Android...
Ladies and gentlemen,
Behold! Another new release in the development of TweetDeck!!
support.tweetdeck.com/home <---- their most recent post has a direct link to the .apk download =)
*as it says, make sure you delete all previous versions FIRST!*
They are really pushing out good betas, and so far every version I've had works very will with my phone!
[Samsung Captivate JH7 - Rooted - Sideloading - AT&T Bloatware Removed]
I currently operate 2 separate twitter accounts and my facebook account simultaneously... It doesn't get much better than this!
So far:
1) no crashes
2) have refresh on every 3 mins and it is NOT killing my battery!! =D
What's the experience of other users with this newest beta? Any issues with accounts/compatibility?
PS... I'm really quite impressed that they have had a beta out almost every week this past month or so. Not bad at all. Samsung, take note...
I had a problem with the previous-previous version losing my Facebook connection but they fixed it in the v0.9.10 version. Other than that it's been a great little app for for keeping up with my networks. I like how they load twitpic, yfrog, and facebook images directly in the app rather than having to be shunted out to the browser.
Edit: I almost forgot my other gripe. They've only released the beta as an apk, so no installing from the market and no installing unless you can sideload. I guess I can see how you'd want to limit beta access to people who take the time to work on their phones, but it's also going to limit the total amount of feedback you might get from testers.
Hi all,
Last week i flashed my i9000 with the froyo jpo build, since doing this my exchange mail is so slow. When i open the email program now my phone hangs, eventually it comes back to life but i still cannot navigate the email. The scrolling stills and i almost never get emails to open.
Is this a known bug; and is there a fix?
Vince

It's a known Froyo problem with exchange accounts, only a lagfix will fix it.
Also, set the exchange account to "Push" to prevent a wake-lock which drains the battery
Can you advise me on how I can root froyo, it seems that all the methods and apps I have found are only for 2.1!

I have come across your message via google and have almost thrown away my galaxy mainly because of this terrible performance. I used to do my mail via my iPod touch 2nd generation which still outperforms even as 'old device' the galaxy. I updated 2 weeks ago via Samsung Kies after long waiting and tracking the news about the foreseen froyo performance benefits. However, apart from people mentioning Touchdown or K9 as alternative for (corporate) email, it 's still unclear to me how to solve this specific issue other then using the Galaxy as mobile accesspoint for my iPod touch. A bit stupid for such a device.
Besides this, after the update I loose icons like nu.nl on my homescreen after rebooting for sure but also without..
I would love if we can get directions how to solve this in a way that I do not 'blow up' my device. Yes, I have read - not done yet - about Odin, unrooting etc. but I, like akaVintz, need a more 'proven solution guide' because the lack of experience in the Android environment.
On 2.1 I used to have and Exchange and a pop3 email account set up and all worked fine.
When I updated to 2.2 the whole mail client became very very slow and many times it used to hang and many cases it would force close the email app. I simply did a factory reset and this corrected all the issues. I didn't really loose anything as my contacts etc etc are syncd with exchange I just had to download and reinstall some apps
I to have done the factory reset, like you say it's not really a problem when all your contacts are in exchange, it just doesn't seem to of cured the slowness. I really just want to apply what ever I need to sort the lag out on 2.2. Everything I have found refers only to 2.1.i have downloaded apps and they won't work for me. Please help...¿

Maybe is a service relating to a third party app that might be causing it. Do a bit of trial and error stopping and restarting services. I found one of my ip widgets was causing a lot of slow down once removed I got back to 2.1 speed.
Email performance 6 weeks later Galaxy S 2.2
As suggested I did a factory reset and it looked this corrected the mail performance issues. Having added only a few apps in the meantime (and moved to external SD card where possible), and killed any widget on the main screens I again suffer from lags (force kill email) and Android BSD instead of windows BSD. Difference is Black and Blue. Having Black Screens of Death in 2011 is not very user friendly. Reading further about something like z4root etc. makes me feel like switching to the IPhone or giving it a change. No idea of the email works better then. Apart from that, comparing my 2,5 years old ipod touch email app which does HTMl flawless with this Android 2.2 exchange client is like Apple was already 5 years ahead a that time. Anyway, it does not perform at all, did a side by side test with a HTC desire which theoratically should have been slower....but not....drives me to the last option of rooting. But wich one? So to start the weekend I hope some can share their (rooting) experience giving my Android experiences with email.
Just rooting won't make Exchange email any better. Flashing a newer ROM (which will bring root in the process) will. JPO is considerd an old ROM by now. We are at JPY by now, which is a lot better, lagfixes are no longer needed to have a fast Galaxy.
Flashing is really simple with Odin, just make sure you can get into download mode before attempting flashing and there is almost no way to mess up your Galaxy S for good. All original ROMs are available at samfirmwares.com, i suggest to read up on there, or read the Android Development subforum (which can be intimidating i admit)
I am uncertain if JPY have any improvements on this but I encounter the same problem in a stock I9000 ROM
- Click on the exchange inbox, took 3 minutes to go to the list of email
- Click on email , took 3-4 minutes and you may see the email or the email application will crash.
I was super frustrated by it as it a company mail system that I rely on, so I root the phone and get lagfix... currently with around 108 mails in inbox...opening every mail is a breeze, also facebook and android market load much faster too.
I am using a I9000ZSJPE s.w as its a Hong Kong Rom
Much better email performance with JS3 the dutch jpy update
Yesterday i flashed with odin to this samsung pre-released stock update after installing the 3 button recovery/download fix. The performance increase is indeed extreme good and to my surprise the email client suddenly supports html to a degree i can live with now. i cite someone who wrote that obviously samsung released a great piece of hardware but to early for delivering good software. anyway i really can recommend this version 2.2.1 after a lot of frustration.
I feel dumb asking this, as I have seen it asked many time in my past three hours of searching, but none of the answers I found seem to be what I need and want.
When I try to connect to my company exchange server, I get the error:
Setup Could Not Finish
This server requires security features your phone does not support.
From what I can tell, the company exchange server is running 2007 SP1 at the moment.
My coworker has a Droid which works fine. He has very different options when setting up his exchange, asking for more security information than I have on mine. (He is running 2.2.1 version of Android, while I have only 2.2, and I know our phones and ROMs are very different.)
My phone simply asks for email, password, username, server, and if I will use SSL, etc. His phone asks for other things, including a PIN, I think he said.
I have seen many posts talking about how to install an email.apk that will bypass the security requirements. I would like instead to get my email to work as expected with the security features. Can someone please point me to the correct thread or link or something that will tell me how to fix this? Thanks in advance!
EDIT/SOLUTION: When I flashed a ROM running Android OS 2.2.1 (rather than just 2.2) it seems to have fixed the problem. Currently running Serendipity 6.4 and had to also flash the Serendipity Add-On email app (there is no email.apk installed initially). Looks like, as Pirateghost stated, that 2.2.1 or later is required for the more "secure" exchange server settings.
i've seen that when the phone either times out because of wrong information, or there is a connection issue. also remember that your phone should be pointed to you OWA address, instead of the server named address...
not sure that this info can help any more, but give it a shot and let us know... i'm sure we can collectively troubleshoot from there
When I put in the wrong credentials, it tells me "the username our password is incorrect" or something to that effect. When I put in the correct username and password, etc, it gives me the above message.
Sent from my Samsung Captivate
Try not using autodiscover, manually type in the server name and etc and you wouldn't use your OWA address, you would use your exchange server's root address for ex: mail.domain.com, play around with it should eventually work.
the problem here is the security settings on your exchange server, and you need 2.2.1 in order to comply or use the modified email.apk that gets rid of the need for the security....

It has an email.apk that works for Exchange Server.
@greenleaf10: I have all ready followed that thread and installed that, it did not help.
@Pirateghost: thank you, I was afraid of that, most the ROMs I follow do not have a 2.2.1 version. Can the 2.2.1 email.apk be used with 2.2? Or do I need a full upgrade phone wide?
I had similar issues and wound up installing Touchdown. It's been well worth the money, no issues at all with Exchange support, including S/MIME.

Jumranb, what ROM are you using? I was on Cognition 4.2.2. I had no issue with using the default Email program talking to my company's Exchange Server. Currently, I am on Andromeda3. The Email program that comes with this ROM did not work for me. Both Cognition and Andromeda are 2.2 based ROMs. Since I know Cognition worked for me, I simply copied the email.apk file from Cognition to Andromeda and it worked fine.
Same problem here with 2.2 ROMs. I used Perception until it was abandoned, but now I am on Serendipity. I plan on staying with it until Gingerbread.
I WAS running Cognition 4.3 which did not work for my email problem. Like you, I am currently running Andromeda3, which is working much better for me all around (battery life, stability, etc), but also does not work with my email problems.
How do I tell (before installing a ROM) if the ROM I want to install is 2.2 or 2.2.1? I notice a lot of people post the build their ROM is based on, but I don't know how to tell which OS version that is if the author does not specifically say so in their release post.
